So disappointed!! My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner at On Swann and made reservations for Jekyll for dessert. We absolutely loved going to Ciro's when they were still opened and enjoying their fresh out of the oven chocolate chip cookies amongst many other things. We saw that Jekyll offered "Ciro's Chocolate Chip Cookies" and we were so excited to one, try Jekyll, and two, gobble up some made to order cookies. So, we arrived a few minutes before our 7pm reservation, but were left standing at the entrance as other parties were shuttled right in. In fact, 10 minutes later, we were still standing there. After almost 15 minutes, we were finally escorted into the speakeasy. This was the first sign of how the evening was going to go and, honestly, we should've left after five minutes of waiting. Once seated, we were warmly greeted by Otis, who took our order for the cookies and spiked milk. When the runner brought the cookies they were neither fresh from the oven, nor warm (or gooey) like real Ciro's cookies were. Instead, they were cold, hard and broke like peanut brittle. I spoke to Otis, who immediately addressed the matter and put in another order of cookies. The second order was delivered by the manager, who claimed that he stood and watched the entire process. This was difficult for us to believe because the second batch cookies were even worse than the first batch. So, we called Otis back over, told him we were leaving and thanked him for his superior service. At this same time, a bar tender, who overheard all of this, stopped by with two complementary beverages. The drinks were the highlight of the visit along with the severs graciousness and professionalism. Jekyll appears to be a very nice place. Unfortunately, they don't make, nor serve authentic Ciro's chocolate chip cookies. Two stars for Otis and bar tender. Do better Jekyll!! read more

I didn't get any pictures of the decor but it was nice inside and it seemed like they were playing more of an old school hip hop R&B Vibe type music which I like. We did order the shishito peppers and I had asked specifically if they were more charred and less sauce and the waitress seemed to say that it wasn't a lot of sauce. But when it came it had a lot of sauce on it. I feel like shishito pepper should have more Char and just a little bit of sauce. We didn't ask her to take off the shishito peppers but she did when she brought the bill. The drinks were decent. It's a nice cool concept. If you're going just for drinks then maybe that's a thing I'm not sure how the rest of the food was because we ended up eating somewhere else. read more

Not somewhere I will be running back to. My friends and I had a 5pm reservation. Which reservations seem to be hard to get. But I'm not sure why when only 2 other people were there. No one else came until about 5:45. It took 10 minutes to get water. And then we ordered the Hazelnut Espresso Martini (3 of them) and 5 minutes later the waiter came back to let us know they don't have hazelnut. So we ordered the caramel espresso martini. It took about another 10-15 minutes to get the drink - mind you still only one other couple in the establishment. I also don't think the martini had caramel in it. Went to Jekyll for their special Victorian Tea. I had read a few mixed reviews but I was honestly pleasantly surprised. They went all in on the theme. With flowers everywhere and beautiful table settings it was straight out of Bridgerton. We were seated quickly and our servers were dressed perfectly to theme. We ordered our teas and they brought out the appetizers. Quickly followed by the standard tea foods and desserts. There were a few stand outs (toffee pudding and mini beef Wellington) and a few duds (cucumber sandwiches had butter, & no clotted cream) but ultimately it was a nice tea. I will say it was pricey but it was worth the experience even if it wasn't the best high tea I've ever been too. They were amazing at decor and the added caricature artist was such a great touch. This is by far the lowest quality high tea I have ever had. The pastries, excessively sweet. Rice crispy treats give it some stars. The tiny dime size macaroon was also tasty the scone the size of a half dollar without Devonshire cream left a lot to be desired. I didn't ask for the cream, which I was given, however, what I was given was unexpectedly like no Devonshire cream I have ever tasted.. I could go on, but this tea was not worth it I do hope to hit up this place for their bar and mixologist which looks to be divine minus the $225 drink on the menu! My girlfriend and I spontaneously went to Jekyll on a Friday night around 7:30 without a reservation. From other people's reviews, it sounds like it might be hard to get in without a reservation normally, but we didn't have a probably when we went! It's set inside Sesame Bagels in an unmarked door, and I loved the speakeasy details like the faded J (Jekyll logo) under the sesame logo outside. We asked the sesame worker and they told us to wait for a hostess to come out and check if there was walk-in seating available. Fortunately there was, so in we went. The interior is dark and cozy, which makes it feel mysterious. There was nice lighting and old school hip hop playing. We sat in shared a seating area but it never got too crowded. The service was on point! Our server brought out waters with a complementary gin drink as a starter, which was such a nice touch to just make us feel welcomed and excited to try the other drinks. The menu has 11 signature drinks based off of popular fairy tales/horror stories. These signature drinks are extremely pricey in my opinion, however, they do have some simpler drinks for more reasonable prices and to be honest, I expected the price range given how fancy the place was. We both loved our drinks, and since my gf got one of the signature drinks it came with 3 tinctures of lavender, hibiscus, and rosemary for her to add to her drink herself and personalize the taste. I thought this was a creative touch and also noticed other performative dishes being served throughout the night (table side caesar salad, tiramisu that got blowtorched right at the table, etc) so they definitely have an eye for flare here. Sooo Jekyll is a hidden speakeasy in Hyde Park. Their front is a small bakery, and you use a code for them to take you to the back. The ambience is low-lit, with soft music and a chill vibe. I really enjoyed that each drink has a story behind it, along with a book to read about each one. The food menu is more snack-based, with some main plate options. We could only have the table for 2 hours, so we had to move to the bar while finishing our drinks. I see people mention the drink prices, I'll share my thoughts even though I don't normally rate places based on prices, but more on the overall experience and food. I'd say the storytelling and presentation of the drinks add to the experience, but it's not a place I'd sit and keep ordering drinks. It'll be interesting to see how long it lasts. While normally a speakeasy bar, Jekyll at Hyde Park recently started offering high tea service. You do need a reservation booked ahead of time, which we booked online. The tea and food are flavorful, the service is wonderful - they really try to accommodate for food allergies which I appreciated very much. Additionally, I thought the price is reasonable for high tea. Inside is beautifully decorated and the piano music really added to my experience! Our waiter told us they're looking to implement live music to the high tea service soon, which would be pretty exciting to try again soon. read more

This is a speakeasy, plays old school hip hop like the others of its kind. The entrance is the kitchen entrance swinging doors behind a pop up bagel shop. They profile you a couple times by having someone from the speakeasy come out to see if you're allowed in or not. My friend & I had no issues allowed in however, it was like waiting for TSA security check point to let you through. I've been to other speakeasies before & if it's not crowded you are directed to go in (not followed by anyone working there) or you just open the door & go in if you're already familiar with where the discreet entrance is... Simple as that... BUT NOT here, you are profiled & then must be granted permission to enter verbally & you are followed in. This was the 1st speakeasy that I've encountered where not anyone can go thru this kitchen swinging door. There were maybe 2-3 customers so basically empty the time my friend & I arrived inside the speakeasy. Food: They are connected to Ro sushi as in you can order from Ro's menu or their menu. But we just ordered duck fat fries from their menu. It tasted of old oil & are soft mushy like actual French fries. You can get better fries that look like this at FIVE GUYS at half the price for double the amount & would taste WAAAAAYYYYY better. The duck fat fries at District South Kitchen in Tampa are top notch true duck fat fries compared to these weird tasting fries that they are calling... duck fat fries. Drinks: Nothing special. Low alcohol content. Not worth the expensive price. I ordered a lemon resposado martini & it arrived as a fully coated sugar rim with entire top of the glass sugar covered (every sip would leave your fingers sticky lol) which I dislike sugar rims as it is so I asked him to repour into a different glass which he did. I'm no bartender but I do know Tequilla is already sweet... it is Agave sugar after all... so to have a sugar rim in this was a faux pas. They should ask if a patron wants sugar rim or not but the server I had did not ask me. The welcome drink from their bagel shop was much stronger than the lemon tequila drink I had. My friend ordered some sort of espresso martini... she liked it, however, it tasted like an extremely sugary coffee drink... like 9.5 parts sugar, 0.5 part coffee, it was really bad. Interior: The place is very small & the servers were all hovering in one corner about 7 or so next to the bar. I could barely hear my friend talk as all I could hear were the servers convos among themselves as it was an odd set up or they had no place to go except that corner next to the bar. Felt like too many people working for such a tiny room. 0/10 hard pass on all the ordered items listed above for the night. read more

Sometimes someone comes up with an amazing idea, thinks it through and dials it in to an amazing concept, a sure-fire win, and then somehow some can still manage to ruin it with the execution. Sadly, this is case for Jeckyll... A speakeasy (password required) hidden behind a bagel joint, Jeckyll is based on translating literary works into cocktails, and they excel at it. From a Frankenstein themed drink where the user adds a choice of as many or as few tinctures as they like to customize the cocktail their own way, to a cocktail based on Kafka's 'Metamorphosis' that changes taste as time goes on, this place has come up with some amazing ideas and pulled them off beautifully. Having sampled only 3 of their specialty cocktails I wanted to stay and try them all... - BUT - Trying to attract a nightclub crowd with a Hip Hop DJ blaring music too loudly for clarity, much less conversation, completely destroys any illusion of literacy the well planned out menus or decor has to offer. Secondly... Admitting way too many guests at one time means that the bartenders are harried and rushed to the point of spilling or messing up and starting over on half their cocktails, and have a quarter of the bar taken up by dirty glasses, smokers, and drink making tools. I had been referred to this place as a quality speakeasy with a really cool concept, but if this is a typical Saturday night experience, Jeckyll needs to pick a deferent lane. read more

I was visiting a friend a few weeks ago, and she took me here. I haven't really done the "speakeasy" thing before, but this was a really cool experience. It *was* expensive, so be prepared to pay high prices (most cocktails are close to, if not over, $30), but you're of course paying for the experience and the drinks are really good! The vibe inside is very "dark and broody" in the best way. Looks like something from a TV show or movie. They have cool seating consisting of leather half-booths. They allow for privacy which is nice. Each drink has an associated story with it in the menu, and they really paid attention to detail. Our server was also very quick and attentive. He checked in, but not *too* much, and was very knowledgeable. For cocktails, I got the Experiment No. 1818 and the Umami Juice. 1818 was super cool. You get an apple-based simple cocktail and then mutiple flavored tinctures to add to it as you wish. Very cool presentation and concept. *That* is exactly the kind of cocktail that I would expect from a place like this, and it was worth the experience. However, the Umami Juice, which is actually a cocktail from their sister restaurant Ciro's that closed, was one of the best cocktails I've ever had. I don't know why I liked it so much because it was sort of milder in flavor, but it had some really cool complexity/depth to it, and it just *worked* so well. It surprised me how much I enjoyed it. While those were the only two I got, it was cool to see drinks other people got and the intricate presentations for them! The only food we purchased was the spiced cashews. This included both a side for savory cashews and a side for sweet cashews. It was a nice snack, and you actually get a pretty good amount. I thought I'd like the savory, but those didn't have a ton of flavor, in my opinion (they were fine). The sweet ones were really good, though. The day of your reservation, you will receive your "bagel order" which is the password to get in. The ambiance is pretty dark trendy chic. Jekyll has been open for a year now and we decided to revisit and see what kinds of changes have been made. And there have been, all for the better. The same check-in process applies as before, and we were warmly escorted to our table after a short wait out front. We got the exact same table as last year. Our server was Alex, and we thoroughly enjoyed Alex's expertise and very friendly manner. The hardbound menu remains in place, as I expected, but there is also a supplemental menu of additional cocktails. We ordered several of these and loved them. They have also added a small bites menu, which is great. Last time it was bagel pizza or bust. There are also restrooms accessible inside the speakeasy now, which is much better than going back out front to use the bathroom and breaking the spell. We dined in on opening night. I absolutely love the Speakeasy theme of this restaurant. I don't want to give too many details and spoil the fun, but make your reservation, and you will then receive instructions on how to proceed to the Speakeasy. Once you are there, you will be in a chic, dimly lit lounge that is serving. It is roomy and well spaced out with nice decor. The cocktails are not like what you have had before. It is an experience. They do serve light bites also. Everyone I encountered was helpful and friendly. They did well for opening night. I would highly recommend this place. Also, great choice of music! As far as parking goes, the valet is 10$, and there are some park mobile spaces if you can find one. You can park for free in the garages in Hyde Park Village also! I'll definitely be coming back!! The whole experience was unique and intriguing. The cocktail menu is unlike any other place I've ever been in. I'm not a drinker at the most I would have one cocktail but the variety was so wide that it was hard to choose. There was a story behind certain cocktails presented like in a story book which I found very interesting and unique. I had sushi which I really enjoyed. The service was OK simply because our server when we called him said something like "I'll help you but I have to go to the other table". That part was weird but the manager did come to make sure everything is OK and even got us one meal free of charge which wasn't their mistake and a free dessert for the birthday girl in our group (which they don't normally do) so I can't complain. The overall ambiance was as if you tumbled down the rabbit hole in Alice and Wonderland and the place is small which makes the experience more private.
