This area is a hard sell when it comes to restaurants, there are some town staples here, but they really aren't all that great. If you grew up eating it or what was being cooked at home was bad, then most of the places here wouldn't be all that bad to you...if those two aren't factors, then everything falls flat. Biscuits aren't scratch made. They aren't too bad though, little on the dry side..but edible. Plus side-They do use real eggs..so I will give them that..their competitors down the way certainly don't. The omelets are a little light on the egg, the ham inside is lunch meat ham and the veggies are small diced. The grits were well prepared in terms of done-ness but they don't season their grits either-but they do butter them after plating...so I'll give them some grace. I get there are two camps of grit people...salt and pepper vs. butter and sugar......but come on SALT makes things taste better, at the very least they should have salt and be made with some cream-IMO. Sausage is decent quality food service and the ladies on the griddle didn't overcook them. Hash browns are copy and paste the sausage. Overall this place is better than other places around here, it certainly lacks in the what it could be department. On the fence about coming back.

The large oj is served in a beer mug, so be prepared for a lot of juice if you order a large. The juice is not fresh squeezed but it is tolerable. With only a few choices in Thomaston for breakfast this place stands out. We were here for breakfast but they have daily lunch specials that sounds good. We will come back to try lunch. It's a Country cooking kinda spot, nothing crazy in terms of flavors or offerings. Place is clean and tidy, servers were both very nice and each of the ladies that were in the back cooking, that came out were nice as well. Hamburger is an unseasoned little less than 1/4 pound patty that is flat top cooked. Bun was standard and they ask what toppings you want and add them for you. Onion rings are a commercial frozen food service product and are standard in flavor and unseasoned as well. Veggies were fresh and they didn't cheap her on the mayo. Country Fried steak as fried and crispy and commercial food service product as well. The brown gravy was nice and peppery which I enjoyed and seasoned properly. The fries were crispy but unseasoned, and since I don't like ketchup I was out of luck and ended up dipping them in my gravy. Texas toast was toasted nicely but the butter they used is unsalted so it was bland. The Cole slaw......was brought to the table at room temp and the room was like 74 degrees...that was a first for me. Most people want their Cole slaw chilled, even at picnics outside in the South in the dead of summer, I've eaten colder slaw. It's heavy on the Mayo which is the saving grace! I added pepper and salt and a splash of bottled lemon juice they brought with the iced tea and jazzed it up. Yeah...I said jazzed like some middle aged mom! Price point was completely reasonable and their bathroom was tidy. They did a steady walk-up and order at the window service while we were there. More people came and went from the window than the dining room. I'd probably come back and try their other items just to see, if I'm in the area and was out of new options to try. Nothing was a deal breaker in terms of repeating the experience...but nothing was all that great either.

We came on a Monday about 8:30 and were seated promptly. We drove out of our way to come since it was my sister's birthday and she was nostalgic about Shoney's and this was the closest one (about an hour away.) Our drinks came right out and we went to the breakfast bar. I was not expecting such a huge selection of food. At least 2 kinds of biscuits, multiple different gravies, breakfast casseroles, hashbrowns, grits, fried bologna, bacon, eggs, sausage patties, sausage links, pancakes, French toast, fried apples, strawberry shortcake, dirty rice, A SALAD BAR that included a fruit selection, fried potatoes, mushrooms, Philly steak, and MORE!!!! Now let's be honest...this is a BUFFET. Some of the food was fresher than others but I saw them replace numerous items during our visit. Nothing tasted off and some food was better than others, but overall, I believe this was a excellent deal for $15/per person. Sharon was our waitress and kept our drinks topped off and plates cleared away. She was a sweetheart and we really appreciated her friendliness. You could tell that the decor, furniture, etc was older but everything was clean and seemed to be in good repair. Even the bathrooms were fresh and clean. Overall, we were very happy with our visit and plan on returning when we're in the area.

This one opens before sunrise and since I wanted to get back on the road early we thought we'd give them a try, it's easy and no mess in the RV, my fingers were crossed hoping it was how I remembered. We arrived about 7 AM and there were only a few customers in the restaurant browsing the breakfast buffet that was filled to the brim - honestly I thought it was a little overkill but as time passed this place looked like Walmart on Black Friday all looking for a bargain and indulgence. The staff here was on their game the kitchen was delivering pans of everything and refreshing whatever looked like it sat a little longer than it should - Wanda our wonderful server greeted us just as we were seated and dashed to get our drink orders while we took a tour of the foods on display. I'm pretty traditional when it comes to breakfast so I was looking for a mound of bacon, scrambled eggs and anything else that looked appetizing I'd consider a bonus. Honestly for $50 including gratitude for two I was a little disappointed with the quality it was a little too intuitional for me, a little bland even with a salt and pepper shaker on the table it just wasn't working. I would of been just as happy with a couple of drive-thru breakfast sandwiches for about one third of the price. I do applaud them for having a full salad bar filled with greens and fruit, nothing bad here just not my thing...

I know a lot of starch but I really wanted to try the potato salad as another reviewer posted it and it looked really good. Well this one wasn't. It was white and not yellow as I had hoped for. I love the mustardy taste in potato salad. It was not seasoned and so bland as was the dressing and turkey wings. The fried green tomatoes were chewy. And I tasted those time I got in the car as I always do. Huge difference!!! I was really shocked. There has got to be a new cook or at least for 1/8/26. This was not the typical seasoning or taste I was used to. I ate my turkey wings so my stomach wouldn't be touching my back and trashed the rest. Maybe I'll have better luck when I return. I'll be switching things up tho when I order.

This place is popular with the locals and it's well supported by them too. I plan to come back and try other things, but this is my take on what I had for my first visit. Price $10.78 without tip. Burger, onion rings and a side of their "house sauce"...no drink. Burger: The patty is similar to a smash burger and probably a 2.5 ounce patty. It was unseasoned and little dry. The bun was fresh and somewhere between a brioche and a potato bun...all of the veggies were fresh and slightly chilled...mayo/mustard and light ketchup. It wasn't a bad burger, but it wasn't an outstanding one either. It's not big burger-the bun is around 3.5" in width. Side of Onion Rings: There were 6 of them...which was a little disappointing. I didn't need a ton, but 6....come on! Other than the skimpy portion, they are a decent quality commercially produced frozen variety....came fresh out of the fryer too. House Sauce-Spicy sweet bbq sauce with a hint of vinegar....BUT holy hell was that sh*t salty. I'm sure once it gets mixed and/or poured over their bbq'd meat it would cut down on some of the salt forwardness...but as a dipping sauce...not a fan. I'm hoping it was just that batch maybe and on the regular it's not that bad...I love salt and can handle it with the best of them, but I tapped out and tossed it after two bites. Service was efficient and polite. It's a bbq/burger stand on the side of the road...I'm not going in expecting much more than that.

The fried chicken was the crispiest I've ever had. The baked chicken was falling from the bones, and I had that with creamed corn and collard greens. Not many people can cook collard greens or creamed corn. I was very impressed. After my first two plates, I started to sample because I wanted to try all the food, and because each item had its own flavor and the way it was supposed to be cooked. I think this lady and I were about to rumble over the hushpuppies. We were both trying to figure out how they were made. I also had a big bowl of green beans, and I was elated to know these were cooked the old-fashioned way. I'm not a big fan of Blackberry Cobbler.
