There's something to be said for a restaurant that has been in business for more than 40 years - especially one in a smaller town like Jackson, GA. My family and I have made a stop at Buckner's part of the road trip home from visiting family in south GA or beach trips to Florida. The food doesn't change much from one visit to the next. You'll always get the same perfect fried chicken (so flavorful!) and delicious stewed tomatoes (trust me, they're out of this world.) Other side dishes may change occasionally, but for the most part you'll have the same down-home food in a down-home atmosphere. Customers are seated family style and the meal moves quickly. Servers are friendly and efficient, and will offer to send you home with anything left on the table (for a really reasonable fee.) A-Okay, but not great If you love your Southern grandma's bland food, and vegetables from a can, look no further! I enjoyed Buckner's Restaurant: the famed lazy Susan tables, the all-you-can-eat food, and somewhat kitschy atmosphere. Its FINE. To be clear: I do not like super spicy food, but the food here really exemplifies "under seasoned." Like I don't think I've *ever* felt the need to put hot sauce on fried chicken, but Buckner's makes KFC's regular chicken seem lava hot. And unfortunately, their hot sauce wasn't that good, either. Food here is tasty and served family style, with all food served on a huge lazy Susan in the middle of the table. Special favorites were the coleslaw, ham, creamed corn, fried chicken, and the apple cobbler for dessert was delicious. Atmosphere was interesting, with photos and old pictures on the walls. Been coming here over 30 years and the food has always been delicious. Fried chicken is out of this world and BBQ pork with Brunswick stew fantastic. But my favorite might be the vegetables: corn, green beans, black-eyed peas, stewed tomatoes, and coleslaw are pure heaven. Needed to grab a bite before going to airport. Looked on Yelp, saw 4 and half stars and we were 6 mins away. We were immediately seated and enjoyed delicious, tender golden fried chicken, seeet corn and delicious peach cobbler. The entire menu was awesome. We found this gem of a restaurant on Yelp as we headed to Atlanta from Florida. Wasn't sure what to expect, however reviews were good and we were hungry for something other than fast food. I gotta say, WOW! This family style restaurant serves up some of the best fried chicken and ham, plus vegetables galore. We shared a table, ate our full and more. Finished off with homemade cobbler. It was so good, we just wanted to keep eating. The server was amazing. She kept drinks filled, and the food coming. No questions, just hot tasty food refilled as it got low. The place was packed on a Sunday night. The prices were affordable, about $25 a person. The facility itself was clean and very homey. This is a place we'll definitely go back to when in the area. Torn between a 4-star and a 5-star rating so I went with the 5 star based on the Chicken and the concept. Been a good while since I have dined Family Style and I can only think of one place in the Charlotte Metro that still does it this way. Drove down to Marietta GA on Thanksgiving Day and had Dinner with my Ex-Wife and my two sons. Very pleasant and since we only get down very infrequently now, we went ahead and let the Grandkids open their Christmas Present. Next day, we went to Town Center of Cobb so the Grandkids could visit with Santa. After that, we had lunch with Brian and his Family at Marlow's Tavern (Kennesaw location). More about that under separate review. On Saturday, we had lunch with Chris and Jen and Jen's Mother. Chris had to be at work at 4:00 pm so we needed to do some planning based on logistics, Chris and Jen live in Locust Grove GA which is SE of Atlanta off of I-75. On my Facebook Page, there is a feed called "Only in ... Insert State of City" About three weeks ago, on the 'Only in Georgia" Buckner's Family Restaurant was featured with a very good review. Suggested this to Chris and he agreed although he had never been. Jen had been a long time ago, so she had no comments. Restaurant opened at 11:00 am so we tried to time our arrival as close as possible so that Chris would not be rushed to get to work on time. At the Comfort Inn in Marietta, I pulled up the Restaurant on Yelp and asked for directions. Don't normally use this function but was actually blown away by it because it not only showed the route but also showed traffic congestion and presence of police. Total distance was a little over 50 miles. We got there at 10:58am just before they opened but had to wait another 10 minutes for Chris and Jen and Jen's Mother to arrive. We walked in and paid upfront and were immediately escorted to the dining room. It's all you can eat so come hungry. The dining room is very large and consist of a series of round tables with an elevated Lazy Susan in the Center. I would guess that each table seats around 10 people but since I did not count, that is only an estimate. Server came by and took our beverage orders. Beverages came out shortly followed by stock the Lazy Susan with a myriad of dishes. My wife was leery up front of the menu because there were only two meats and that is BBQ and Fried Chicken. She is a Yankee from PA and has never developed a taste for good Southern BBQ and she was afraid that the Chicken would be all skin and grease. Bruckner's proved her wrong. While she did not try the BBQ, she loved the Fried Chicken. I liked it as well as did everyone else at the table. Nice and light, not greasy and very moist and tasteful. While she did not try the BBQ, did and it was very good. I took a dinner roll and made a small sandwich out of it. In addition, they had stewed tomatoes, lima beans, creamed corn, green beans, cooked potatoes and more. All were good although will admit, I did not partake of the Green Beans. Green Beans are the one this I will not eat. As one menu item is depleted, it is replenished. Same with your beverages. As I said, it's all you can eat and the wait staff if very attentive to make sure you never run out. Nice and clean and well maintained. Just west of the Exit 201 on I-75. Head west toward Jackson GA and turn right at the first light and proceed about 1/2 miles and it's on the right. read more

We plan our road trips around being able to stop one way or the other or both. All you can eat Southern food served family style on a lazy Susan. The menu rotates daily. We have yet to figure out how they make their fried chicken not feel greasy or dried out. The ribs and BBQ pork are delicious, too. The best part is the peach cobbler. I was thinking about what I would say in my review as I waddled back to our truck. Lord have mercy, that was some good food! I had a bite of everything, It was all really good, but a couple items stand out. The first item was a true surprise, stewed tomatoes! I mean, smack your Grandma good! I honestly can't say I've ever had them before and if they are all this good, I've made a 60 year mistake by not trying them before. The ham was absolutely delicious, as was the cream corn, chicken, green beans, Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and Apple Cobbler. That is some dang good fried chicken. There's often a line out the door of Buckner's. Especially on the weekends. I highly recommend you go there hungry. Because this is a cafeteria in disguise. The serving line comes to you. But first, you stand in line and pay before you enter the dining area. Then you grab your table and staff rapidly sets up the lazy Susan in front of you with all the foods that are on the menu of the day. And this is solid Southern cafeteria fare: chicken and barbecue, and green beans and corn and collards, potatoes and peach cobbler, and rolls with cornbread and whatnot. All of it is filling and satisfying. And simple. I think it's fair to say that this is no-frills dining. Simple Southern fare and friendly people. What else do you need? Just when you think you're done, another round of this cafeteria-fare lands on your table. That's when you realize that this serving scheme is an All You Can Eat situation. Family Style. That's when you tuck in for another helping of that Southern goodness. My only complaint is that the price point seems a little high. But as I said, people are lining up out the door. This is a really good place, the only flaw I found was the hours they are open. I have tried to eat here many times and couldn't because work travel allows me to eat here during the week for dinner and they are only open for dinner Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Food is served on a lazy Susan, family style. You can sit with others or just your party. This is a family style restaurant. Sitting with others; and using a big lazy susan to select your food. The waitresses are very attentive to keep cups full, and the food bowls filled for the entire table. The last few times we have been there; the fried chicken has not been crispy!  They may have been in a warmer or something and has not been the quality we are use to.  After giving this a chance a few times and not getting the great crispy chicken, we have decided to not make the 40 minute drive just to be disappointed yet again. read more

Date of visit: Saturday, March 27, 2021 We are moving into the local area and wanted something very good. I went through the reviews for restaurants and discovered Buckner's Family Restaurant. Buckner's had hundreds of reviews and nearly 5 stars. It is also southern homestyle food and that is my absolute favorite. The wife and I drove about 10 miles, checked in and waited our 30 minutes for a table. While outside they have several areas setup for individuals or families to do things. Some picnic tables, corn hole, several stations for some game where you catch a silver dollar size ring on a string onto the hook it came from by swinging it towards it. It was very nice to watch other individuals, children etc having fun, laughing. The local area doesn't have a mask ordinance and it was very refreshing to be honest to feel like it was back to the norm. The employees wore masks for those concerned and social distancing was asked to be practiced. We were asked if we wanted our own table or willing to sit with others. Duh, of course we are willing to sit with others and meet new people. We meet a very nice couple who lived about 30 minutes away from the restaurant, and we had an absolute blast talking and eating together. The Saturday menu was fantastic. Everything, and I mean everything was incredible. Pulled pork, breaded chicken, stewed tomatoes, boiled potatoes in white gravy, creamy style shoepeg corn, Mac and cheese, butter peas, green beans, coleslaw, apple cobbler, cornbread and rolls, sweet tea or lemonade. The chicken was insanely succulent. Apple cobbler, oh man, that cobbler. Our server just kept bringing food asking us nonstop if we were good. She was on her game the whole time. Friendly as can be. Thank heavens this will only be about 7 miles from our house because this will be a weekly trip for take out/curbside pickup they offer. It is so good to get back to this side of the states. I have been going here for over 20 years. Me and my family always love the food and hospitality. It's southern food to the core . Fried chicken, pulled pork, creamed corn, clod slaw, green beans, stewed or mashed potatoes with tomato gravy and everybody's favorite peach cobbler for dessert. They serve everything family style on a big round table that sits 6 to 8 people. The center of the table is a big round lazy Susan center where they load the bowls of dinner items and you can eat as much as you like and they bring more if asked. Many Saturday or Sunday dinners after swimming at High Falls State park down the road south 4 miles. It's a must try if traveling 75 below ATLANTA. read more

You sit at a group table kinda like a hibachi restaurant the buffet is brought to you and put up on a tier above the table that rotates around.
