My wife and I dined in here last night. I had mixed feelings about it, so here we go: The restaurant was big with many tables. There were even Taiwanese opera masks on the wall, which was pretty unique. The hostess, who greeted and took us to our table was very sweet. For food, we ordered the fiery juicy soup dumplings, taiwanese zhongzi special, pork with bamboo shoots, and Chinese broccoli with garlic. The Taiwanese zhongzi were absolutely on point and tasted like home. The rice was flavorful and sticky. Kind of wish it had a little more fillings, but it was good for sure. The pork with bamboo shoots was tasty, but I wish they would've seasoned the pork differently as it tasted a bit catered to Americans. Actually, half of the menu looked like it catered to Americans...we prefer a more authentic taste. The Chinese broccoli was good. I was reluctant to order it because I thought it might be bitter, but it was juicy. The fiery soup dumplings came last, which was odd because typically you get these as your first dish in other restaurants - slightly annoyed by that. Anyway, the filling was a good amount and the soup was adequate. The dough was a bit too thick because I prefer thin. Overall, food was pretty good. Service though...oh boy. It was not good. Our waitress was as friendly as a tree. We had the leaf of the zongzi sitting on the table the entire time and she never bothered to take it away. Also, she never bothered to check on us and only asked if we wanted more water til the end of the meal. Maybe she got me on a bad day, but this is not the type of service I expect for the price paid. Definitely need to go here with people that like to eat soup dumplings so you can try all the different flavors. Service was ok, but then again it was pretty empty when I was there as they first opened. Came on a Wednesday afternoon, excited because of all the great reviews. Service was quick and very accommodating, however the food didn't meet my expectations. Juicy Dumplings - Their dumplings come fresh and hot in bamboo baskets. The pork and crab one was super super juicy and my favorite part of the whole meal. The Fiery Juicy Steamed Dumplings , were only slightly on the spicy side, but still recommend Spicy Dan Dan Noodle - Loved the peanut sauce, but wish they added more to the dish. Twice Cooked Pork with Bell Pepper - Flavors were on point, but the pork was very very dry. Sautéed Yu Choy with Garlic - Simple and delicious. Highly recommend ordering to balance the meats. We found this restaurant in a search for good egg drop soup. Once we walked in we quickly realized it was a packed hidden gem and internet famous. We came back another day after making a reservation and had some of the best Chinese food in the city. We had to try the soup dumplings, egg drop soup, crispy spicy chicken and Dan Dan noodles(vg), and hibiscus lemonade. Our waitress was super sweet and attentive even though it was busy our food still came out in a timely manner. Can't wait to come back and try more things! Definitely try this place! This is our go to Chinese restaurant in DFW. Time after time the food is good. Occasionally something might be off. But today, everything was spot on. Tasty, hot, tender, just simply good. There was an hour and a half wait, so MAKE RESERVATIONS We went to grab coffee and finished our wait at the bar, where we chatted with the funny and pleasant staff. Sooooo worth the wait! The green onion pancake was crunchy and fluffy. Not a bit greasy. It was wonderful dipped in a combo of DIY sauces that are provided at each table. My soup dumplings were absolutely delicious. When I raved about them to the waiter, he told us an elderly grandma has been making them homemade every day for decades. My daughter has fallen in love with soup dumplings so we have been on a quest to try them at as many different restaurants as we can. Jeng Chi has great soup dumplings! They have so many varieties of soup dumplings (and other dumplings but our focus was on the soup dumplings). Most restaurants only have 2-3 options for soup dumplings but Jeng Chi had 6!! We ordered 3 of the 6: pork & crab, fiery and curry chicken. And we loved them all. This was an hour drive for us but it was well worth it. Jeng Chi was our first introduction to Authentic Chinese cooking. Jeng Chi literally threw us down the rabbit hole of exploring authentic Asian food. Rabbit hole? Is that the right word? I think so. We dined here every year on Christmas until probably right before the pandemic. They had a change in ownership and then we just for whatever reason didn't make it back until Just a few days ago. Everything I've had here has been delicious. Most recently, having Lamb in cumin sauce and chinese broccoli with garlic. The Krista walking into Jeng Chi 8 years ago would probably not have ordered that. I wasn't too sure of the cumin sauce at first because when I think of Cumin I think of Mexican food, so I wondered how they would pull this Lamb in Cumin sauce off. Been a customer at Jeng Chi for many years now and I have to say theater they are consistent with the quality of their food. The service is rudimentary the staff are not friendly or rude. The interior is nice and the inside is somewhat clean. The food was very good. Everything is well cooked and very flavorful. The noodle had good flavor my favorite was the Dan Dan Noodle which is slightly vinegary and spice and very aromatic. The soup dumplings are a must every dumpling that I ate all had a generous amount of soup. The flavor of the dumplings and the soup are slightly gingery and porky. read more

My second time / infinity at Jeng Chi. Everything's just great! You may stumble upon a dish you personally dislike but with a decently large menu and fantastic service on a Sunday lunch - I like this place! The Staff was helpful with allergy concerns I find the food great when it comes out piping hot but the experience weakens as you let the portions get cold, so eat the soup dumplings when they are fresh. Must haves are the soup dumplings(pork), Leek appetizer, and the Pork chop. Beef noodle soup (good, tender beef and thick noodles - just not my kinda dish for a 1st time experience) and beef and broccoli was a pass. My coworker recommended this place, and she was so right; the juicy dumplings are delicious. We tried the small juicy steamed dumplings and the pork and crab juicy steamed dumplings. The pork and crab was my favorite of the two, but they're both excellent. I like how our server Min came by and taught us the proper way to eat the juicy dumplings. I've been doing it wrong this whole time, lol. Min was amazing; I will always ask for her moving forward. She recommended the Shrimp Pockets for our appetizer, and they didn't last 5 minutes! They were so hot and fresh and good with the sauce (not sure what it's called). I was impressed by the shrimp-fried rice. It was really good with no sauce needed! I've never had such good rice by itself. Usually, it's dry, and the sauce brings it to life, but not here. For dessert, we tried the Black Forest cake and the tiramisu. Both were tasty, but my personal favorite was the Black Forest cake. I really enjoyed the fresh cherries that were mixed in. Overall, I was so pleased here. 10/10 would recommend! read more

This was a Great find. My wife told me that several of her friends liked this place and when I checked Yelp that had over 1000 reviews. So we took chance and checked it out. Below is what we liked about Jeng Chi. 1. Location. It is on Greenville ave in the Chinese district north of beltline road in Richardson. We are fortunate to have a large Asian population in DFW but this area is mostly Chinese. 2. Ambience is top notch. When I go to an Asian restaurant I want to see Asian people eating there. The physical place looks and feels Chinese. It is large open room with Chinese lanterns hanging from the ceiling. It is festive but not over the top. 3. The food was great not good but great. Their menu is pretty standard fare but cooked well and presented well. 4. They apparently are famous for dumplings so we had to try them. They have a variety but we went with the standard and we were not disappointed. The presentation was terrific too. I got the moo shi pork without the pancakes that the waiter had told me when I ordered. However, it was so good that I did not missed them. My wife had the shrimp fried rice and she enjoyed it. 5. The server / waiter was well versed on the menu and was efficient and available. 6. We arrived around 5:30 and before we left they were on a wait. The can seat about 150. They do takeout too. 7. After dinner we wandered by the front of the restaurant where they have a bakery and they sell their dumplings to take home. 8. Some nights we have to wait like 30 minutes for our food, and sometimes our waiter just never comes back. That is what separates my 4 star from a 5 star. Jeng Chi. They do have the option of reserving online, the restaurant is in a shopping center so plenty of parking. The best soup dumplings I've ever had! Friendly service, never a wait when I go and really good food. I've tried the pork soup dumplings, the wonton soup, scallion pancake and orange chicken. I didn't care for their wonton soup but everything else was awesome. The orange chicken is more of a sweet and spicy chicken, there's not a lot of orange flavor but I still enjoyed it. I like their scallion pancake but I'm not a huge fan of their chili oil (that's already on the table) so next time I'll ask for a different dipping sauce. read more

Soup dumplings were delicious. Tried the pork and crab, beef, and the lobster one that was on special. Beef was least fav, but the other 2 were really good. We ate the dumplings and spicy seafood noodle soup which was good. Didn't want to cook so got some stuff to go: orange chicken, shrimp fried noodle, and combination fried rice. What a disappointment. 6 months ago I gave this place 5 stars and could not wait to go back. Today I did and boy what a shame. The entire restaurant was littered on the floor, tables had not been cleaned from what May have been a busy lunch. I did show up at 3:30pm on a Sunday. Finally we got seated and within a couple of minutes the waiter was there asking for our orders. We hadn't even looked at the menus yet. We ordered 3 sets of dumplings, orange chicken and 3 appetizers (hot sour soup and egg rolls). Waiter said the dumplings would take about 10-15 mins which was not going to be a problem. To our surprise within 4mins our dumplings were served. But we had not even had our appetizers yet... we then got our egg rolls and soup served and proceeded to wait over 15mins for my sons orange chicken. No check in from the waiter staff, I asked a lady about the order but she never returned. Eventually we got the orange chicken only to be given the bill at the same time. What in the world was this?? As for the food, that was okay but nowhere near what it was 6 months ago. Sorry but this place has definitely gone down hill. Hopefully this was a one off but I will think twice before I drive 30mins for dumplings. read more
