My haircut was choppy and uneven, with huge chunks sticking out everywhere where she'd tried to layer my hair. It's a much worse haircut than when I cut the exact same style myself during the pandemic. It's not "I can't ever leave my house again" bad, but I feel completely embarrassed by it. Even the bottom hairline was uneven, and asymmetrical from left to right. She did not ever comb the left & right sides up so that she could cut them at the same time, something I've seen every other hairdresser do throughout my life. She didn't consult me about the style before washing my hair, never checked in with me about the length, where to put the part, etc. She just didn't act like a professional who knows what she's doing. Even if it weren't sloppy, it's still 1" longer than what I asked for, and not quite the right shape. I'm going to be cutting my hair myself to fix the mess so it's at least no longer ragged. The salon isn't a disaster inside, but it's very cluttered, in need of repairs, and definitely long overdue for a good cleaning. I was really hot and uncomfortable during my cut because the sun was beating in through the windows right on me, and there were no shades or blinds. My hairdresser - whose name I don't know - was pleasant, but the other hairdresser left her chair to take a personal video call while she was with a client. The only reason it's not a 1 star is because the service was pleasant enough, I was able to get an appointment the next day, and the cut was only $30. But I think this salon is only worth it for a cut if you can't afford better and are physically unable to cut your hair yourself. Otherwise, find a better salon or just cut it yourself, which is what I'm going to be doing anyways - the day after paying them to do it for me. :/ read more

First time giving a Yelp review and First time getting my hair cut in NYC but I'm glad I went here. Simple and sweet. Went on Tuesday afternoon so no one was really there, which was nice. I like the calm atmosphere. Jennifer was really sweet with me. Definitely would go back just because she's so kind. PS- She accepts cards and Cash (But not Discover Cards as far as I know) 25$ for a simple cut, I didn't want anything crazy. Jennifer's salon is relaxed, inviting and not intimidating.. This mother and daughter duo have mastered the art to a "T". Show them a picture of any hairstyle and it is done! And done well!! I always look forward to my appointment each time I visit the salon because I know that I am going to have an enjoyable few hours. Jennifer and her staff are delightful and can do some hair. My parents live across the street from this location so I was happy to try it out. I realized it was a location that was really popular with African-American women, and I'm Pakistani. The last time I went to a similar place, I was told they wouldn't style my hair. So I spoke to Jennifer ( I think?) and she reassured me she was great at styling all different types of hair. I happily went to get my hair washed. My stylist Kimberly immediately told me she usually doesn't take clients who book the same day and she was doing me a favor. I immediately was uncomfortable, but went on talking and said I had a photo shoot early the next morning and wanted a wavy blowout and please be gentle (was on the tail-end of a headache). The wash blowdry was really painful, I felt my hair get caught in pins several times. And when she was done, my smooth hair felt wiry and rough! I immediately left, not wanting to cause a scene, and went to another location, explained what happened and was told they would have to run a treatment first to get out what was causing my hair to be coarse. So there goes another hour and fifteen minutes. I called Jennifer's Beauty World and asked for a refund, at which point the woman I spoke to was incredibly mean, telling me off for going to another place instead of letting them "fix" their error and on top of it all, berating me for being absolutely "stank" was her word, from the moment I walked in. This was categorically untrue, I walked in with a smile and enthusiasm! She not only was nasty but refused to refund the amount, daring me dispute the charges. I bid her a good day and did just that. I wish I could recommend this place, but for the customer service alone, I say no way. Lots of places down this street to go to first! read more
