We had a good experience over the summer. Went there on Valentine's day. Reservations were for 7:30 we were seated at 8:30. The hostess was like 16 years old and completely rude. Once we got seated it took 20 mins to even get water. The waitress, didnt give AF about us she was too worried about a table of 10 trying to get tips. She would pass our table and not even look at us Eventually I had to yell "HEY!" to get her attention. The food was terrible. I had the lamb and asked for it rare, it was well done and like shoe leather. The broccoli was basically steamed with no flavor at all. The good news was our dog got to eat 90% of it because it was pretty inedible for human consumption. My wife said hers was basically a minor upgrade from Olive Garden. In the end the best thing was the bread. It was actually very good bread but paying $160.00 for bread was a teeny bit high. I get it, it was a busy night but in those instances if you overbook you step up the service or at least try to give AF about your clientele' by having the head person go table to table and make sure people are getting what they should. Clearly they did NOT Give AF, They were only there to pimp out money for themselves. Totally disappointed. read more

Came here this past Tuesday to try the $25 Tuesday specials and they did not disappoint. Our server Mandi was phenomenal. Very attentive, didn't horse out the soup until we had our appetizer completed. Top notch service. We had a party of 3 and were able to order each of the apps, mushroom, bruschetta and deep fried zucchini was liked by all. The cream of chicken soup was very good and one of the few times I didn't need to add pepper to it. On to the entrees, baby back ribs were fall off the bone good. Chicken piccata was juicy and the lemon cream sauce was a hit and the penne pasta with vodka sauce was good. My wife added chicken to it and the size of the check was well worth the $5. Recently visited for the second time. It was so nice sitting in the dining room looking at the different colored trees. My husband took advantage of the $25 dinner deal and loved his burger. The food is "meh" at best. Service is incredible. Outdoor ambiance in early spring looks like everyone's' back yard in March...tools and forgotten stuff strewn about and forgotten. I had a hankering for ribs so I ordered the ribs, she had the seafood pasta. I think my ribs were mass bought at Tony's or Berkots and placed under a broiler for 12 minutes. No smoke, 10x too much sauce, and oven baked 55 minutes too long (to the point that the bones pulled clean from the meat (over cooked). Hers looked so much better, but it resembled a bisque poured over some seafood and pasta. The generous portion of seafood was mostly on par, but the lobster held some "fishy" notes. So wanted to like this place, but I just can't. read more

I was here last Sunday for a bridal shower. I never get in this neck of the woods- haha literally in the woods. This was a very beautiful place set up perfectly for larger parties in the back. I guess they have a nice wine cellar downstairs in their basement however did not make it down there. Their little Outdoor patio backed up to the woods and had a very warm feeling. I recently hosted a shower at Jen's. On the day of the shower the staff was excellent, the food was delicious and the space worked out well. I would give it 4 or 5 stars. The reason for my lower rating is the planning part. After I signed the agreement and paid my down payment, I had a very difficult time getting in touch with and communicating with the representative (who was not there on the day of the shower). Information I was given before the shower did not match on the day of the shower. Everything turned out great, but it was more stressful than it needed to be. read more

After being here for a wedding, I convinced my friends to have our Christmas get together dinner here last night. The place is beautiful, but the food was just "eh" . Four of us ordered the filet mignon, which was supposed to be an 8 oz cut with duchess potatoes as shown in the picture on their online menu. We were served two 4 oz. pieces of filet with mashed potatoes, because they ran out of the duchess potatoes (they just gave us the mashed without asking us if we would have preferred something else). We ordered our filets medium rare. When we asked the waitress why we got two small cuts, she said they butterflied it to keep it medium rare. That made no sense, as a chef will usually butterfly when someone orders it medium well or well. Will not be back. Sad to have recommended it to my friends read more

Asked to sit in the bar area, wedding music was still loud, wedding party started hanging at the bar, my husband and I felt like wedding crashers!!! Six of us went to Jen's Guesthouse last night. Jen's is in the woods on Archer in a beautiful building. Jen's has a very pretty outside eating area. We enjoyed the fabulous food and drinks. The entertainer, Ollie Bolds, was spectacular as always. He definitely knows how to please the crowd. Our waiter, Chris, couldn't have been nicer. He aimed to please-gave food suggestions and made sure we had a fun time. Chris is in college and works two jobs so please ask for him. His goal is law school. You will not be disappointed. The only negative was no Buffalo Trace bourbon due to the shortage. Highly recommend! If you are from Chicago, this restaurant originated in Burnside. read more

A solid four star experience. Our foursome all had a good time. The staff were efficient and friendly. We were sat immediately. Our server didn't keep us waiting either so a good job all around. My drink was good as was our food with one exception: the shrimp tasted fishy. I didn't dare eat them. Otherwise everyone loved their food. The ambience was fancy dining room with a homey fireplace at the end. It just felt comfortable and we all felt at ease. We'll have to try the back patio when the weather permits. It looks beautiful. Everything was clean and orderly as well. No complaints. Not gonna lie. If it wasn't for my shrimp this would be a five star review hands down. We haven't been here since the new ownership. It seems a little more casual than it used to be. It was outdoor dining bc of covid but there were tables inside being used too. I have to say it felt like we were no longer in Chicagoland anymore. Not because of the nice scenery but bc everyone including some of the staff seemed to be pretty cavalier about wearing their masks. In the lobby people were coming in and out sans masks. One of the waitstaff was constantly pulling his mask off to talk. It was weird. And our tables were not spaced socially distant. I was back to back with another table distanced in non quarantine times. Not making a judgement but an observation. The food was decent. We ordered the chicken piccata, the short ribs, the lake perch and the guesthouse burger. I guess I would have to say that everything was really good but the burger was not that great. My son complained that the short ribs were too much. He said it's like getting a tray of bacon versus a few pieces. It was overload. For what you pay, you get a lot. I think our entire meal for the four of us was $100 before tip. It was a good deal. Forgot to mention there was live music outdoors while we were there. I am disappointed in this restaurant. For the amount of money we spent I expected better service. The atmosphere is wonderful the entertainment is amazing but even for Happy Hour it was very expensive. I had a small amount of wine left in my glass and the waitress accidentally poured water in it when she came back I thought she was going to give me a small glass to replace what I had but instead it came back with a full glass of water. We also ordered coffee and it was not fresh nor hot. The appetizers were okay nothing amazing about them. Not sure if I would return to this establishment. read more

Apparently it must have been to others also because our server told me I got the last one. So, noticing it was just on the specials menu & not the daily menu, with that said, I called a couple days later & spoke to a lady (Sam) to make a strong suggestion about having whomever does the food purchasing for the kitchen make the lamb shank a regular item. With her telling me that I was now about the 12th person calling & suggesting the same, it apparently was a big winner judging by the favorable responses to the idea by not only myself, but many others. Even if it is just a Sat/Sun weekend special. I'll be checking. read more

I love the atmosphere here. The entire restaurant has a view of the attractive back patio which backs up to a beautiful wooded hill. Each different season adds a different beauty to the atmosphere. Service is very good with attentive hostesses and servers. I've visited this restaurant several times in the last several years. I remember the food to be excellent. My most recent visit was for a wedding. What a delightful spot for this lovely event. Dinner was delicious and the venue was perfect for cocktails in the bar before and even dancing with a live band after dinner. It is not a huge venue but it is perfect for a smaller event of 100 or so. Speaking of the bar, I have visited and it my not be large but it is jumping on weekends! read more

We came here for my tasting for our wedding with our bridal party. First of all this place is always so beautifully Decorated no matter the season or holiday. There is a beautiful patio outside with a gazebo and it's all nestled into the forest. You kinda feel like you far away on vacation when you are here. The staff is so friendly and on point. But the food here is insanely good. We tried the beef Wellington, chicken teriyaki skewers, and bruschetta for appetizers. All were so on point that our wedding guests are going to have a hard time choosing just one. The winner last night was the beef Wellington. The cream of rice and chicken soup was so good I thought one of the people in our party were going to lick the bowl because they couldn't get enough. Four the main courses we tried filet mignon, eggplant parmigiana, chicken piccata and this cavapattia pasta. Some of the people in the party said it was the best filet they had and others raves about the chicken piccata. While all were amazing I feel the eggplant parmigiana won my heat over. Over all if you are in the area you must give this place a try. You will not be disappointed with the food read more

Had dinner at Jen's for the first time. The Lake Perch with Mushroom Risotto was delicious! My husband also really enjoyed his Philly Cheesesteak sandwich. Ended our dinner sharing a slice of cheesecake with strawberries which was very yummy!! The musician (Erik Donner every Thursday in the Summer) was very entertaining. The patio was very nice.
