5 stars for Lemont. Probably 4 stars in Chicago. Walked in on a Saturday for an early dinner. It was 5:45, I didn't have a reservation, a they didn't have a table available until 7:30 but there were spots at the bar which they said was full service. My friend and I cozied up to it and ate there. What a surprisingly good experience. The staff was super friendly and that bartenders had great suggestions. I hate when people at the restaurant say everything is good. Not these young ladies. They made some sound suggestions which we followed. French onion soup and the steak frites were both excellent and priced well IMO. They have a really good whiskey/bourbon selection with a few hard to find bottles. I settled on a Blantons neat. They had Pappy, but I'm not wasting money on that anymore. Food came out quickly and we ate and watched a baseball game. The locals at the bar told us about their membership program where I guess for a small mo they fee you get a bottle of wine and a charcuterie plate once a month. Seemed like a pretty good deal. I don't live anywhere near there, but if I did I'd certainly join. In any case, if you live anywhere close, this is definitely a worthwhile restaurant to visit. Seems like there were quite a few singles there as well if you are looking to meet someone. I have no idea what the dating scene is like in Lemont, but this might be a good spot to try. read more

Saturday date night was a birthday celebration dinner at Barrel & Vine for my husband. I'm not surprised he picked this restaurant because they have an extensive bourbon list, not to mention good food. We had Amanda as our server this time. She was fantastic! So personable, friendly and was very attentive. We began with cocktails, a Blanton's old-fashioned for him and a purple haze for me. Our server Amanda made the magic happen with my bubbly vodka cocktail at our table. Barrel & Vine makes great specialty cocktails. Hubby and I shared everything he ordered. The first thing we had was the imported burrata in a marinara sauce with rustic crostini. Creamy goodness. Yum! I loved that there were four large slices of grilled bread, perfect ratio of cheese to bread. I don't like when there's not enough bread for the amount of cheese on the plate. We then had the Tijuana's Best salad, which was their caesar salad. It's a typical caesar yet the best I've had. Not overly dressed. Hubby ordered an EH Taylor single barrel bourbon for the main event, a 32oz tomahawk steak with truffle fries and roasted brussels sprouts. The Fred Flintstone sized steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked to rare and came with four sauces on the side. We were able to choose our sides from the accompaniments on the menu. The ribeye was very tasty, however, there was grizzle in the piece that I cut for myself that I couldn't chew. Side note: I think it would be a nice touch if the restaurant sliced the meat and laid it next to the bone as presented at other restaurants. Both the brussels sprouts and truffle fries were good, but the fries were lacking the truffle taste. Needless to say, we couldn't possibly eat the whole 32oz ribeye so we brought leftovers home to enjoy again. The finale of our meal was a complimentary birthday dessert that Amanda chose - her favorite, a salty toffee skillet cookie. Amazing! It was a warm and gooey perfect ending to our dining experience. Lunch Review! Barrel & Vine is one of the nicer restaurants in the downtown Lemont area. They offer a variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, sides, and larger entrees. I visited for lunch but they use the same menu as dinner service with no additional lunch specials. The inside is moody and rustic with darker finishes, exposed brick, and elegant furniture. For starters, our group tried three items. The Bruschetta was certainly my favorite but could have used some additional goat cheese. The burrata was served with house-made bread that was delicious but there was a slight fishy taste on the back end as if the pan were used for other dishes. For mains, I got the half chopped salad which was delicious! The truffle fries on the side looked cool but ended up tasting mediocre. It could have used more sauce as the potato flavor overwhelmed the truffle flavor. I did get to try their soup of the day (cream of italian sausage) and it was delicious!! I wish I got that over the fries. Overall, this is a nice option in Lemont but probably more for dinner than lunch. Their menu shines for larger entrees that are simply too expensive for lunch. Our server, Pedro, was phenomenal and deserves 5/5 stars on his own. Sadly, some of the food items leaves this as not a perfect review. read more

Came here on a date night. My boyfriend was in the mood for a good steak. The decor was really really nice. Our waitress Amanda was amazing! I had a steak with chimichurri sauce and a side of bone marrow. Super delicious. For drinks, my boyfriend had an IPA and I had a dirty martini. It was made perfectly how I like it. Service was quick. A group of us stopped for a work lunch having quite the appetites. We ordered the sauerkraut and mushroom pirogies, bruschetta, chopped salad, burrata and ciabatta (which was off menu), house creamy sausage soup, and Cuban sandwich. Overall the appetizers really shined the brightest, but their bread is also freshly made which was a huge plus. Our waiter was attentive and helpful with all of our needs. The biggest dissatisfaction was the fries. While they were decent, the table wasn't a big fan of wedge fries which was essentially what these were. (They didn't say on the menu) They looked neat, but were fairly bland. The truffle and chimichurri sauces were okay, but not the most flavorful bite. I've heard their drinks are good, and their charcuterie boards look great. I think going here for drinks and heavy appetizers is the way to go. read more

We were there for the lunch and early dinner crowd. The music was at a nice ambient level . A small Sky Light was spreading a ray of sunlight into the dinning area .Latter on the lights dimmed a little for dinner . We advised our waitress that we were going to order at a slow pace , and she understood perfectly. Her name is Kathleen . The bourbon and wine list is extensive. The wife had bloody Marys. I had the Mimosa flight . It was listed on a separate one sheet menu for lunch . After taken a satisfying length of time to enjoy the drinks we ordered the Brie and Fig Crostini . That was the start of a well prepared lunch .The outside of the bread was slightly brazed to a golden satisfying crunch , the inside was soft and cheesy . A honey glaze on the side paired well with the figs and cheese . Our idea was to order French Onion Soup , but we opted for the soup of the day . Shrimp bisk. Just the right amount of cream to make it stiff enough to earn the bisk savoury flavor . Again we took our time during this course , as it was our anniversary meal and conversation was abundant . The main course was Black Sea Alfrado and filet mignon . The menu describes it better then I can remember for this review. Both dishes where phenomenal! . We ended the meal with White Russians. I feel that the bartender was quite the mixologist . The General Manager gave us a gift card for our anniversary. That was classy and appreciated . read more

Stopped in for a birthday dinner with my gf. We made reservations earlier and were quickly seated. Casual vibes inside with plenty of seating. Our waitress quickly gave us the specials but we already knew what we wanted on the menu. The Brussels paired well with the yuzu and lemon with a hint of honey. Their food was good. Their service was so poor. I brought my mom, 87. On the way in while I helped her struggle through the two doors the two hostesses looked at me and did nothing, no movement to open the two doors, no reaction...kept looking at their phones. My son arrived later. He sat down, got up a few minutes later and told me what to order him to drink. Came back, she hadn't showed up. Finally showed up and dropped off the appetizers and walked away. I had to call her back and ask for his drink. One of several times I called her over, including asking someone to get her so we could get a check. My son had already left by the way...maybe be aware??? On the way out I had to ASK the two hostesses, who heads were again down looking at their phones, to help with the door. She has a cane and struggles to walk. The one came to help and after the first door went to go back inside, I said could you help with the second door? Seriously Chillies, Olive Garden, etc... where I don't pay 200$ for three people have better customer service! I get it the food is better, but we don't live in place where we can't get a good steak at that price. Set yourself apart and make the whole experience better. So disappointed. read more

Placed was jammed at 5:30 pm on a Friday. We had reservations and were seated right away. Good service, but you had the feeling of a fast pace. Calamari for an appetizer was good. I had the Churrasco steak which was done exactly right. Very good. My wife had the filet and while it was good but she ordered it med rare and it was a little overcooked. We used Barrel & Vine's private room to celebrate my mother-in-law's 90th birthday and had a wonderful time. The space was nicely tucked in the back of the restaurant giving our party privacy. They also allowed us to decorate however we chose. We had a plated meal with 4 options from which to choose. I opted for a chicken sandwich which they were very flexible with all of my ridiculous modifications. It was amazing. The service staff took care of all of the little details for us- cutting and plating the cake, decanting the wine, constant beverage delivery. All in all, we had a wonderful experience. Parking was a little tough on a Saturday afternoon but it is downtown Lemont. I would 100% return to Barrel & Vine read more

Last minute date night because the kids were sleeping over at their grandma's. We showed up about 45 minutes early for our reservation and the place was packed! Looked like there were a lot of HS kids from homecoming. Since there was no room at the bar to grab a drink either, we ended up going to another local spot near by while we waited. When we got back, the place was way less crowded and we were seated all the way in the back. The restaurant itself is much bigger than I expected since it goes so far back. Our waiter was a young guy, but he was super nice and we enjoyed our conversation with him. We ended up ordering both the french onion soup and mushroom soup because those two were my favorite and I couldn't make my mind up. Both were really good! My husband enjoyed whatever seafood dish they had that night while I got their short ribs pasta. Very flavorful and I ended up not being able to finish it all so we packed up some of it to go. I read so much about this restaurant and couldn't wait to try it for our anniversary. We both took the day off and went for lunch. The host was great, very welcoming, and the space was beautiful. There's a bar in the front that looks very inviting, and the atmosphere and decorating throughout the restaurant is very well done. It's warm, clean, and modern. Our waitress, Amanda, was very nice. We ordered the calamari, swordfish special, and churassco hangar steak with chimichurri and curly fries. Initially we were told the swordfish came with asparagus, but that was later corrected to spinach. I should have clarified, I thought it would be wilted or sautéed, instead it was just baby spinach strewn about the edge of the plate adding nothing really to the dish. Strange choice. The calamari is gluten free and comes with a sauce that I liked but my husband didn't care for. Because there wasn't a sauce for him to use, so he felt the calamari was lacking, and needed something. I agree the sauce was pretty high on the acid, maybe a touch too much vinegar. Our entrees were okay, nothing special, and like I mentioned before, the spinach was a very strange choice. The actual sauce for the swordfish needed more acid, it was flat and reminded me of jarred chicken gravy. The mashed potatoes were bland as well. I have to say, the steak we ordered also needed seasoning. Technique is there because everything was cooked well, but the lack of seasoning really left a lot to be desired. Some salt and lemon would have made a world of difference. read more

Let me start off this review by stating how great the service was! Our server was named Marissa. Marissa did a great job of explaining the specials and giving recommendations (all of which were fantastic by the way). I went with the special Watermelon Lemon Margarita and the Prime Rib special. They had just started their prime rib special on Sundays when we went. I can't emphasize how great their chefs must be if the first time they execute a new special it goes perfectly without a hitch. It is a nice restaurant for a date or family dinner. The exposed brick is very pretty and the decor is nicely done. I would highly recommend the calamari--which was gluten free!!! I have not had breaded calamari in years. I could have cried this calamari and sauce were so good. We also got the octopus appetizer, which was a bit of let down next to the calamari. I think the flavors of the calamari were so perfect that the octopus needed more acid or char to compare. 5 stars. We are already planning to go back to try their gluten free chicken tenders. Vine & Barrel does gluten free unbelievably well. It is well worth a drive to stop by! read more
