Very disappointing experience, especially after driving over 30 minutes specifically to try this restaurant. I had seen several negative reviews on TikTok mentioning poor customer service. Many of the reviews also mentioned that they were frequently out of food items and did not always maintain consistent business hours. We decided not to judge the restaurant based on those reviews and wanted to give it a fair chance for ourselves. Because of the concerns about their hours and food availability, I specifically called before making the drive. I called right at 1:00 PM when they opened because we were coming from out of town and wanted to make sure they were open and had food available. I was told they were open and that the only thing they were out of was brown stew chicken. Based on that information, we made the 30+ minute drive and arrived around 3:20 PM. Once we arrived, we ordered a beef patty and were then told they were out of those as well. We decided to place our food order anyway. When it was time to pay, we were told they only accepted Cash App, Zelle, or cash. Thankfully, I had cash with me. Our bill was $51, and I gave them $60. A few minutes later, I was told they did not have any change. To be clear, any one of these things by itself would not necessarily be a terrible experience. Restaurants run out of certain menu items. Credit card machines go down. Sometimes businesses may have an unexpected issue with making change. Things happen, and I understand that. The problem is when all of these things happen together, especially after a customer has gone out of their way to call ahead specifically to avoid those exact issues. We drove over 30 minutes based on the information we were given, only to arrive and find that additional menu items were unavailable and that there was no change available for cash payments. At that point, the entire experience became extremely frustrating. We spent well over an hour of our day on a trip that could have been avoided if we had simply been given accurate information when I called ahead. I completely understand that things can happen in a restaurant, but communication and consistency matter. If multiple menu items are unavailable, payment options are limited, and there are ongoing issues with business hours, those things should be communicated to customers, especially when someone takes the time to call ahead before making a long drive. We genuinely wanted to give this place a fair chance despite the negative reviews we had already seen. Unfortunately, our experience ended up reflecting many of the same concerns mentioned in those reviews. I also hate to say this because I really wanted to support the restaurant, but experiences like this unfortunately contribute to the negative stigma that some people have about Black-owned businesses when it comes to consistency, communication, and customer service. I don't believe that stigma is fair or representative of Black-owned businesses as a whole, which is exactly why I was disappointed to have this experience reinforce it rather than challenge it. Let me start by saying that my intentions were to purchase 3 to 4 plates; but their method of payment was cash and Zelle temporarily. So I was only able to try the Jerk Chicken plate. The chicken and sauce was very flavorful and well seasoned with a spicy smoky taste. The chicken is not grilled on a pit, but has a smoky taste. Tender, served on a bed of rice and peas and a side of cabbage mixed with mixed vegetables, that were green beans, corn, and lima beans. I'm not sure if they were out of plantains, but that was not on my plate. I was looking forward to it. I really enjoyed my meal and I will have to come back to purchase other dishes. The service was fast and friendly. I'm looking forward to seeing the place after the renovations are done. (They are open during renovations.) (ask about the weekly and monthly specials.) I hope that they brighten up their sign on the outside of the restaurant and also make the view of the restaurant bright at night so it does not look like it's closed in the evening . It's so dark at night...If I had not known that the restaurant was really open, I would have gone home just by looking at it because it looked like it was closed. I also heard someone in the restaurant say the same thing. The Chef said that he will continue specials each month. And I advise that you call ahead of time to find out if the methods of payment are still temporarily limited before you get there. Nobody wants to see potential business walk away if they only had a credit card or even drive past because they thought that a restaurant was really closed. I'm looking forward to coming back to see how the place is coming along; and to try other entrées on his ever expanding menu. Bottom line...... Great food, great people and a great renovation in the works. I'm looking forward to doing a follow up review with a higher score. read more

Prices raised to about $24/plate and as shown in the photos, not worth the price at all. The meats were sitting in the burner, which made the proteins extremely dry, the plantains were sitting out, uncovered and did not look fresh at all, but was still served.
