    The #13 The Original Italian
    Kristie S.

I used to have Jersey Mike's Subs often when I lived in So Cal. I really enjoy the taste and texture of Jersey Mike's! I was happy to be able to enjoy a sub again while visiting family. And thanks to Yelp, I discovered their was a location not far from our hotel! I ordered a medium Italian sub with rosemary oregano bread. I didn't have it "the mike's way" (lettuce, tomato, mayo). I had lettuce, tomato, pickles, banana peppers, oil, vinegar, oregano and for some reason I asked for parmesan cheese. Still can't figure that out. The sub was just as yummy as I remember. I also ordered a chocolate chip cookie which was the bomb dot com and so soft! I ate it the next morning and it didn't need to be warmed up, it was still soft! I gave 4 stars because it's a bit pricey. I ordered a medium sub and cookie and it was $12 and something cents plus tip.

It's a fun place to unwind and run into familiar faces. When the lunch bell sounds, the line forms swiftly, as the masses gather to devour their hoagies and onion rings. There's a nice mix between cold food, like salads and wraps, and hot foods, a majority of which fall into the soup and chili categories. At first glance, what initially comes off as a casual cafe bistro, shows off a surprisingly robust menu upon further inspection. In the spring months, sitting outside in the painstakingly crafted campus, with its obligatory man-made pond, is the preferred way to break up the day and maybe even get a little tan. In the backdrop, the blue sky shimmers off the reflective windows of each looming building, a perfect union of work and play. I am thrilled for the owners, who nearly had to close their doors for good during the COVID-induced shutdown years back. Now, with CEOs leading their return-to-office crusades around the country, the hardworking corporate café worker can once again flourish.

I respect this establishment as they like to keep everything very fresh for high quality, once they run out of bread they are done making sandwiches for the day. The sandwich was ginormous, the bread mouthwatering, I had left overs for days and would absolutely recommend you try out this Italian Market if you are in the area, even more so if you are a fan of hoagies. Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to the reputation. We ordered Philly cheesesteaks, and while I was ready to taste something iconic, what I got was a black pepper overload. The seasoning completely overpowered the meat, which was disappointing. Even worse, the bread-to-meat ratio was way off. My roll was soggy, and no amount of mayonnaise or ketchup could save it. We also ordered onion rings and chicken tenders for our toddler. The onion rings were fried to the point of being rock hard. Not crispy, just tough. The chicken tenders were dry and flavorless. Our toddler ate some and said they were "good," but even she didn't want the leftovers the next day and neither did we. Hubby said to be fair, the staff was sweet and very accommodating, which we appreciated. However great service can't cover up subpar food. Sadly, High Steaks missed the mark for us, and in a city known for doing cheesesteaks right, that's a big letdown.

She's a ray of sunshine with such great customer service. She remembers me every time, and her energy is just unmatched. I might have to get her a pin that says Biscuit Pusher because she owns that title! The cashiers are friendly, management is attentive, and they genuinely want you to have a great experience. If there's ever an issue, they fix it right away. Tara, the owner, is amazing. Even when she's busy, she makes it a point to check on guests and ask how everything is going. She makes suggestions to make your biscuit sandwich selection go to another level. That level of engagement goes a long way. The quality of the biscuit is always on point. My only issue is that they tend to fall apart when you try to pick them up. I usually have to eat mine with a fork because they crumble so easily. The biscuits for their sandwiches are flakier and much better. If you think you have twenty-years left to live, you might want to knock out a few things on your bucket list before ordering. They have a sign that says something like this isn't fast food and there isn't anything fast here at all. The staff and customers all agree with that slogan. No one is hiding it. A few weekends ago, we waited over 45 minutes like idiots for our food. I had a $50 gift card, most went to this meal, and I was ready to walk out. Sadly, I didn't complain to management, because the line was longer than the line to order food. They said refunds would take one week and the people who said they really would never come back, had the managers get their food quicker than ours. It's an interesting business strategy to ensure the angry customers who won't return got their food first, but I get it. If less people frequent this place, then the lines won't be as long. They even said there was no manager on duty. Anyone watching the staff work would know that no one was lying. No utensils, napkins at the tables, just people sitting there waiting for their to-go order and then freeing a table later. If you are one of those weekend people with nothing to do until you have some structure at work on Monday, this is the perfect place to waste most of your day, to get you that much closer to work. Sweet treats are alright, nothing special. Breakfast sandwich could be worth it, but you could also go to the worst grocery store in town and make your own better biscuit and sandwich in the amount of time you have to wait. $8 left on our gift card and in a perfect world I'll misplace it.
