Charged $27 for 1.5 subs. An Italian and a steak, plus 1 small bag of chips and a medium fountain pop. Seems crazy expensive, even for So Cal. The bag of chips and pop were an additional $3.80 over the $15 sub, which is a joke because everyone knows fountain pops cost less that .10 and these bags of chips are .25 anywhere else. On top of that, the unsupervised high school kids that run the place are unwelcoming, and won't say hello unless you do. They'll stare at you like you don't belong. Often times when I come here for lunch or an early dinner snack, we have noticed there are police or sheriff personel eating here. Of course the public servants need to eat, but it was like almost everytime I was here a couple of cops were having a meal. And always in the south west corner. I realized I ordered at the most busiest time, and it is expected they will get backed up, but WOW!! I guess we did not pay attention to details on the order. Myself and 2 friends come here every Wednesday for a number 13 on a white bun and it never ever lets us down. Each of us has different tastes, so we custom order all of our ingredients. For me, it includes mustard, extra pickles and jalapenos plus the regular tomatoes, extra onion, and the Mike's way with the oil, vinegar, oregano and salt. The sandwich and every other one I have had at this location is awesome good and the staff is always great although we do miss Bella. She is the best. Rumor has it they will be opening a new location on Avenida Encinas. Eery time I've been to this location during the day the food and service has been great. Unfortunately each time I've been here in the evening it has been an example of a business being run by children with poor customer service skills. Once I sat at the counter waiting while listening to the staff argue about who was going to serve me, only to be told that the grill was turned off (at 8:27) and I could only order a cold sandwich. I left and drove to the Palomar Airport Rd. Location where they made me a hot sandwich. ( at 8:53) Another time I intentionally got there before 8:20 and again ordered a hot sandwich. A female employee seemed irritated at the request and went so far as to take off her apron and ask someone else to make it. This business is open till 9:00. I had an unusual experience at this location yesterday and boggles my mind still today. I called in my order as a giant #26 and confirmed it with a team member who answered my call. When I arrived I put in my shore points and the total for my order appeared on the screen. To me, the total seemed a little low considering I ordered a giant sandwich and a drink. Then I thought "maybe my shore points put a discount" or the team member was nice enough to give me one anyway from how many times I've been there. So I gave a 20% tip bringing the total higher and closer to what it should've been. Then comes my sandwich. Unfortunately, it wasn't the giant I ordered but it had the order slip on it saying giant. There was a simple misunderstanding but it did cause me to wait another 10 minutes and I had to pay for another regular sandwich.. I was even more disappointed when not just the team member who took my order knew about the mistake but the whole crew knew and did nothing. Instead, trying to brighten up the situation, the team member said that it's ok bc this purchase would give me enough points for a free sandwich... next time. I am the supervisor for an adult day program in Oceanside Real Options for Adults with disabilities. This is a program at Boys and Girls Club of Oceanside. One of my groups was at your location today and were treated very badly. They were rushed through their transaction and one of your employees got upset because they were all paying separately and because they were taking a little longer than your usual customers. Our program works on money skills, communication and safety skills in the community. The treatment they received was uncalled for and a few of our members where so upset that I had notify their parents of the treatment they received at your location today. Super friendly staff here made of mainly younger teenagers and young adults, but they can get the job done. Subs are the same over through all the other stores across the line, but I did enjoy the conversation between the staff and customer. Some of the other places I've been to in Encinitas or Carlsbad, have been friendly, but it was more in depth with conversation at this location. Always good, never disappoints. Be warned that the giant sub is indeed giant. It could easy be split 2 ways and even 3 depending on appetite. I recently discovered the mini size. It just a hair smaller than the regular size and cheaper! The mini with chips and a drink is the perfect amount for lunch. I typically order the cold Italian and the mini wheat. Get it Mikes way with no onions and ALWAYS add the PEPPER RELISH. It adds a nice salty kick to the sandwich and isn't to spicy. The pepper relish set Jersey Mike's apart from the other corporate sandwich chains They have a points program too. YOu just give them your phone number and points accumulate. YOu don't have to worry about a punch card. Now sometimes when I go in I randomly get a free sandwich. When my wife goes out of town, my world crumbles. My loneliness increases while my appetite diminishes Cruelly, my libido stays about the same (I blame this is on Jesus testing my faith, though). My usual pilgrimage on wife-away days involves going to Jersey Mike's and getting a giant sub. This is a 15" sub with all of the trimmings and is enough to last me the day without being too hungry at night. I look at Jersey Mike's employees the way I looked at In N Out employees when I worked at Burger King. They are cut from a different cloth. They are the overachievers of their respective food service genre. I'm not sure if it's a case of excellent hiring practices and training or simply having them walk through an Adderal mist when they punch in. Especially at Jersey Mike's, employees ask how you are doing and remember your order down to the last detail. They also have a Pavlovian system to encourage tipping, where if you tip they ring a generic (Ring Bell for Service) bell and you are serenaded with a harmony of "Thank You!"s and the feeling that maybe, just for that moment, you aren't THAT big of an asshole after all. Since my wife is gone a lot, I've made it a point to join Jersey Mike's 'Shore Points' loyalty program. I'm also on their email list, and every other week I get a coupon sent to me that lasts about four days. This week it's a $1 discount off a regular sub. I went in Monday and Tuesday of this week (it's Wednesday today) and wasn't certain they would honor it (though I figured they would since I was ordering a bigger sub and spending more). Monday and Tuesday were not a problem, and I got my $1 off. In fact, yesterday I left the coupon in the car and they honored it without my bringing it in to the store! I ordered my usual Giant #8 and put in my phone number for the loyalty program. I handed over the coupon. The girl behind the register said "I'm sorry, but this is only for a regular sub". I replied, very calmly, "I'm spending more than a regular sub, I would understand if I was ordering the smallest sub, but I'm spending more". She then told me it would only apply to a regular sub. I started to think about what would happen to their profit on my individual order if I told them to make it a regular so I could get $1 off. They would have to throw away half of the sandwich I ordered AND get less money from me. My mind was spinning, as I'm used to being upsold at retail locations but was unfamiliar with being "downsold" (a word?). I said to her, calmly, "It wasn't a problem yesterday and the day before". She then had the audacity to say I could get two regulars at $8.25 a pop and get $1 off one of them ($15.50 total) instead of ordering the Giant at $13.45. I don't know if I looked a little more dim than I normally do (I DID use a new shampoo this morning) but she kept a straight face. I felt my mind bring up the idea of bailing then and there when another employee said, "Just give him a $1 off". The cashier zipped her lip and wouldn't say anything else to me. She had previously asked me if I wanted anything else and I had said a drink. My total came to $12.60 and I told her she must have given me more than $1 off she blurted "No, I didn't". I said, "Did you not charge me for a drink?" and I saw a flash of regret travel through her eyes as she replied to the negative. I told her to ring me up for a drink and she said, "It's ok". I tipped as I normally do and while the bell rang it was met with only deafening silence. I realize it's only a dollar, but it's the principle that counts to me. I'm not 100% certain that I am in the right in thinking the coupon should apply to bigger orders, but her suggestion to spend more money to save less was absolutely ludicrous. I literally just walked out of Jersey Mike's and had to write this review asap because I was so impressed. I went in to redeem my free birthday sandwich to treat myself. There were a few guests in line and some already eating. I could tell they were a bit busy because they were prepping many sandwiches for catering, but I was in and out in under ten minutes. I am beyond impressed with the working staff: Gage, Gavin, K.B., Alexis, and Gus made me feel like I was family. Because of them (and my amazing sandwich) that this will become my new sandwich spot. I was greeted by almost every employee with a smile (this is a huge deal for me). I was also greeted by being called miss (which makes me feel good because I'm a young woman). Everyone was so excited when I asked about redeeming my birthday sandwich they even offered to sing to me. They were professional, quick, efficient, and worked well as a team.
