I was sent a $2 off coupon via email to come check out their new location in Eastgate and couldn't pass up either opportunity. Their former location on Elliott was very roomy. Unfortunately I can't say the same for this new location in Eastgate. It's situated immediately to the right if you're coming in off Franklin St. It's very small inside which IMO doesn't encourage eating in when that comes back, plus parking in this strip mall is always a challenge. For now it's take out only. I didn't recognize any of the staff from the old location. All new faces who were super nice, very conscientious, and clearly taught how to make the subs so that they're as killer as ever. So I'm disappointed it won't have the roomy dining area anymore, but at least the quality of the subs hasn't changed. read more

The only sub I ever get here is the philly cheesesteak sub and it's always really good. I like that they're always consistent and you can always expect to get exactly what you've ordered every time. I like that they grill the steak to order so it's always fresh and hot and the bread is always so soft. My boyfriend gets the meatball sub from here and it's one of his favorites. I really wish I liked Jersey Mike's more than I do. I can't help thinking that my lack of contentment with their sandwiches is more my fault than theirs. My standby at Jersey Mike's - as it is at all such places - is the meatball sub, which is greasy and nasty but huge and cheap. That's really what you're getting here: An enormous mess of fairly good sandwich for a cheap price. If you're looking for something more gourmet, this is not your place. The atmosphere is a little spartan and the staff isn't very enthusiastic, but that's what you expect in a place like this. That may be the best thing about Jersey Mike's... I usually don't review chains, because they are the same concept from store to store so why bother? Well some chains are individually owned and operated, so they may not all be exactly the same. I like Jersey Mikes subs as a franchise, it is one of my favorite sub places along with Firehouse. I have been to some Jersey Mikes which are not so great, but this one is exceptional. The owners also work behind the counter and are friendly to their customers and greet everyone with a smile. They can do brisk business during the lunch rush, but no matter how long the line, they move people through quickly. The location is always clean and more modern than the others I have been to with several t.v's for sports viewing while you are eating. My go to sub is the number 13 (Italian). I usually get it Mike's Way which makes for a delicious and quick lunch! read more

This Jersey Mikes used to have pretty decent subs. Good quality deli meats sliced right before you, generously served on quality hoagie bread. For the blue collar sandwiches it serves Jersey Mikes was very well made stuff. However this Fall of 2009 there was a management change, and almost all the previous employees were changed out while new ones came in. The place itself was also renovated and feels a bit more comfortable and newer. However the new staff is fresh, and it shows. I had my standby Italian and steak and cheese and neither of them were as good as before. The italian was well made, but they put in about half the meat as the previous guys did. It was Jimmy Johns at Jersey Mike's prices. The steak and cheese was made by an amateur and was no good: ingredients were falling out and it just didn't taste right. Give me back my greasy spoon: I'll take a good working-mans' sandwich in a drab interior over mediocre subs in the Taj Mahal any day of the week. read more

Not a good sign when you feel gross after eating... I was starving one night after studying at 3 cups and this place was just a few doors down and I figured a sub place would be pretty fast and time was of the essence. My first mistake was ordering something that had to be cooked (philly cheesesteak), but that's not why Jersey Mike's failed in my eyes, I know it was my fault for ordering what I did. The one star was due to the limpy, soggy bread and there was something odd about the cheese (I should know I accidently ate moldy cheese once, but no worries iron stomach!). One day my friend busted out half a leftover sandwich that looked and smelled AMAZING. She told me that Jersey Mike's was where it's at. I begged her to take me here later that day and I was converted. I love watching them slice up the meats and cheeses and sandwich art that ho with the dressings. You see, I'm perpetually on a diet and randomly swearing off carbs but I could not resist. I ate the whole thing. No regrets. If you're not getting it Mike's Way you're making a huge mistake. I've tried googling the recipe for my homemade sandwiches and can't find one anywhere! They've seriously got it on lockdown! The oil is a proprietary blend so you can't just throw olive oil on there and think it'll taste the same. Trust me I've tried. Oh and make sure to get the hot cherry pepper relish on the side. Needless to say, I am never going back to Jimmy John's ever again. Even the "authentic" Italian sandwiches I've had in NYC were nothing compared to my beloved Jersey Mike's. First visit, precipitated by favorable words in NY Times article recently. My wife had a turkey sub....good but not better than Subway or McAllister's...by the sub alone, the rating would be 2 stars...I got their Philly Cheesesteak with Provolone...definitely above average for the area. Add two chips & teas and you're up to $18 for it all, which is a little higher cost than normal ; but ok for a pretty good lunch. Gah, this place is the pits among pits. I can't get over how bland and banal this place is. Very tasteless from the bread to the cheese and veggies. Everything here looks so anemic. I've tried the turkey sandwich and the veggie sandwich and both were tasteless. I actually like subway better than this. I've tried two of the wraps but both were so soggy it made the wrappers wet and wrap gooey. This is a good branch from a service perspective, although it is not as new and pristine as other branches near by. They also make good cookies here, better than other branches. My biggest gripe with this and all Jersey Mike's is that my meals seem to be more expensive and have less value than when I go to the competition. What got me to come in was a coupon for a free meal to welcome me to the neighborhood. What will have me coming back? Their fresh ingredients and their local community engagement, both as evidenced by my experience and articles like this (http://www.jerseymikes.com/news/read.php?id=753 or http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/250636). It depends on what you want. If you look up calorie charts, Jersey Mike's subs will regularly rank significantly higher than Subway (e.g., compare their tuna sub stats). And if you're vegetarian, there unfortunately aren't a ton of veggies available to pile on. (Given that I mostly eat vegetarian, this was a reason to give them 4 stars rather than 5.) But their regular sub is bigger than subway, and the bread is fresher, less likely to soggify if you save half of the sub for later (as I did today), and much more submarine-like than it is at Subway. Subs are about $1-2 more than at Subway, but everything for your sandwich isn't sitting out in iced buckets, which means the meat and veggies are fresh. This particular location is super clean and well lit, had a raffle going on up front, and the employees were remarkably nice and efficient. There was fun music playing, plenty of space to sit and watch TV while you eat, and no problems finding parking outside. So overall, this locally owned and operated store not only brightened my day with free food and friendly service after moving from Los Angeles, they got me excited enough to look up their business and write a review. I've had their club sandwich with the turkey and bacon as well as the pastrami. Ordered a 7 inch philly cheese steak, and 20 minutes later they handed me the sub in a simple cover (without the bill, tissues or a thank you, though I am not penalizing the rating because of these issues). The problem is that the sub itself was underwhelming. They missed adding three things that I had ordered - mayo, salt and vinegar. On top of that, there was little meat which meant the bread overpowered the stuffing. And it felt dry! I love philly cheese steaks, but this was a serious letdown.
