Mikes way is my way! You know I love sandwiches and if you didn't you do now. This place makes a goooodddd sandwich. My recommendation? Get it mikes way- it comes with onions, tomatoes, red wine vinegar, olive oil and spices. Also they shred the meat right before they make it the sandwich. How cool is that!? It is thin and fresh. Lastly they are quick, even during rush hour you won't wait long. P.s. They have a loyalty program- the more you eat the more you get for free!

Cold meats on two varieties of plain cold bread with plain cold toppings. Hope you like mayo or vinegar/oil. There is no mustard. Nothing gourmet, nothing artisan, and no pretense at a recipe in the whole house. The turkey, ham, and cheese is freshly sliced, and sliced so thin as to be transparent. It's really difficult to see much value here. If you work nearby it may be a lunch option if you want some variety, but it doesn't compare to the old Mr. Goodcent's which used to occupy the same location and offered soup, salad, and pasta. Subway has nothing to fear from JM's, as this comparable meal was nearly $9, about $3 higher than Subway's combo, and Subway offers more variety. The counter people are friendly, it's clean, the music is pleasant (country radio), and JM's offers Pepsi products (thumbs down).

I will probably never have another sub sandwich from any other chain store.

What evidence do I have to support my contention? I'm glad you asked. Exhibit A, and without question the restaurant's Pièce De Résistance, is the lentil chili. Now, I know what you're thinking - chili is supposed to contain meat and only a communist would proffer such a vaunted title on a vegan dish. Right? I used to think the same way, but the delicious balance of chili seasoning and fearless heat of Pickleman's take on this classic makes it one of my go-to late night dishes when I'm hanging out downtown. Exhibit B is composed of the salad selection, which features options to suit many tastes, all of which contain genuinely fresh vegetables in addition to their specific peculiarities. That may seem like a simple thing, but seasoned salad eaters know it can be rare, indeed. It may seem weird to lead off a review of a sandwich and pizza place with two options that are neither, but I've honestly never had any reason to venture beyond that side of the menu because they're both so delicious. And that they do those things so well is more than enough reason for me to juice their rating, whatever failings other reviewers have experienced notwithstanding.

    J. Parrino's Queen City Deli -- "More Than What Meats the Eye"…read more It's no wonder why J. Parrino's Queen City Deli is more than what meats the eye. The name behind it, Joe Parrino, is a renowned St. Louis restaurateur known for blending Italian tradition with classic St. Louis-style soups, sandwiches, and pastas -- and that mix absolutely shines here in Springfield. From the outside, you might not think much of it. But as they say, IYKYK. This is definitely not a book to judge by its cover. Tucked on the east side of Sunshine, it's the kind of local gem you'll want to keep in your lunch rotation. I started with the Milo Salad, and wow -- thick cuts of salami and pepperoni, fresh cheese, crisp lettuce, crunchy homemade croutons, and a perfectly sliced hard-boiled egg. The dressing took it to another level -- creamy like Caesar but with a tangy vinaigrette twist. Honestly, I almost forgot to take a photo because I couldn't stop eating. And that garlic breadstick? Fresh, soft, and buttery perfection. Next up was the Parrino Special, their house sandwich -- prosciutto, salami, and incredibly tender roast beef stacked between garlic bread buns and topped with a house salad. Every bite was a dream: the crunch of the bread and salad with the tenderness of the meats created layers of flavor and texture that just worked. Pure happiness between garlic bread. The team here is friendly, fast, and full of good recommendations -- you can tell they care about what they're serving. If you're looking for a local spot that nails the trifecta of soups, salads, sandwiches, and pasta, Queen City Deli might just become your new favorite lunch stop.
