We called in a Pastrami Sandwich to go from Jersey Sub's in Soldotna & I have to say it was completely inedible. What happened to this place? A little bit of the ramshackle/dive place inside. Decorations from the 90s (or earlier). This creates a weird ambiance. Service is friendly, but production is a bit wonky. It appears they take the orders as fast as they can and then they send out subs as they make them. This meant that the four people in my group received their subs at a variety of intervals. Other people that had ordered before and after us received their subs mixed in. It didn't help that a random stranger with my same name ordered right after me either. Also, it takes a while. Plan on waiting 15-20 minutes at least. The top of my canned diet Dr Pepper was dirty. Not sure what it was. I grabbed a napkin to wipe it off, but couldn't get it all. Menu prices are different than charged prices. For instance, the mini meatball is listed as 9.49 but I was charged 9.99. Not sure if it is a cashier or menu error. The subs are made to order and didn't appear to be the "warm up in the microwave variety." There is a grill in the back. The bread is soft and they don't skimp on ingredients. The bossio had a good array of meat and cheese. The banana peppers were plentiful. A few years back I visited on my way through town and I remember having a wonderful experience. The new owners should go to food jail for what they have done to this formerly great restaurant! Stopped by yesterday craving a cheesesteak. The sandwich I had was inedible! Over toasted bun filled with very dry meat and lots of little dark specks of fresh grill scrapings, it was gross. The minimal amount of cheese covered only half of the bun. One bite and it hit the trash. This used to be my favorite place for subs in all Alaska. I am truly in mourning. read more

The ratings are true. We came here and I think it was just three teenagers working today. The sandwiches are expensive and nothing great by any means. My sandwich seemed thrown together, as one would expect, and although it's a toasted sandwich, the bread seems microwaved and was soggy and gross. Immediately we were asked "do you know what you want?" We gave them a straight answer no, she said "ok" turned around and walked away rolling her eyes. She had just finished complaining about how she had to leave because she was "hella overtime". She then proceeded to use the same gloves she used at the register - to begin to make our food. I spoke up immediately and told her that was cross contamination. She immediately rolled her eyes, in front of me. She proceeded to have a bad attitude. It took 50 minutes for 3 subs, when there's only 1 other small party here getting service. When we opened the first sandwich - there was 1 small slice of meat on each side. We got up to ask how much longer our 2 other subs would take, twice, and they were unable to answer the first time because it was the girls first day. The one employee with a bad attitude - did not inform the other staff that she had completed our 2 subs and 1 other sub for someone who had been waiting longer than us. The new owner is so nice! We have always been a fan of Jersey Subs, but had a bad experience a few years ago with an extremely rude manager, we decided to not go back. Then I heard there was a new owner so we thought we would try it again. The whole experience was wonderful, the kitchen/eating area is CLEAN(which if you remember it before it was questionable), the food was higher quality then I remembered. Sandwiches were great but the service took a really long time even though the store was empty except for us, and they ended up forgetting to put one of the sandwiches in the bag, so I took away one star for that. Is this joint really as Good as It Gets? You bet. Don't let the rough looking exterior put you off during Covid times. They have put up a wood passageway to protect their staff while giving you good drive up service. Our favorite subs are the Bossio and the Meatball and Marinara sandwich. We've been buying the 10" sandwich and half of it makes a meal for us. We once tried a 20" Bossio and had to call our teenage grandson to come help us eat it! What happened was that the 20" sub roll was much wider and deeper than the increased length suggested; when the ingredients were packed in, it was huge! We now call to place our orders. All the Jersey Subs in the area are excellent. They don't try to be everything - they do what they do VERY well. Best place for a no-fail meal. Never had a bad sandwich, always fresh, consistent generous servings. Some staff are friendlier than others, but they're all good hard working people. Excellent sub sandwiches, but a bit spendy compared to Subway Subs. The sandwiches are more like a small-town sandwich shop, not a massive chain like the "big guys". Better bread, great toppings. I bought two 10 inch sandwiches, and one bottle of soda and it was $30+ dollars. So if you are looking for cheap go to Subway but if you are looking for a great sandwich, this is definitely the spot. If you're charging me extra for a small service (fisherman wrap) at least do it. I spent over 200.00 on your food as it was a special trip just for your subs (buying for 8 people). Only 2 subs weren't supposed to be fisherman wrapped and when I got home none were. The subs were too soggy to eat and my family is pretty disappointed. Awesome subs but over-priced! Jerseys has been in AK since the dawn of man and so they're legacy is pretty established. However I don't think they're subs are quite good enough for the price you pay. This place is a little dirty hole in the wall but it's exactly what you expect when ordering an old-school sub. A lot of people rave about Jersey Subs, probably because it's one of the better places to eat in an area that doesn't have a lot of good restaurants to begin with! I have very mixed emotions about Jersey Subs. I love sub sandwiches, and am always on the lookout for a great sub place after living in the Middle East for a year and being subjected to Subway to fill my sub desires. Gross. Since I used to live right down the street from Jersey Subs, I have been to this location a handful of times. Each time I have enjoyed the food. The subs are big, filling, and they have a good offering. The taste is always good enough to satisfy you, but for whatever reason, I have never left feeling completely content. Take the meatball sub, for example. The sauce: excellent. The meatballs: pretty damn good. The cheese: quality provolone. The sandwich comes up short because it falls apart very easily, the bread gets soggy quickly, and the cheese melts a bit too much and becomes stringy. So while everything tastes fine, it falls short of being a great sub. I'm not saying I won't go back. I certainly will. Of all the sub places I've been to in town, Jersey Subs has my vote. But it's almost upsetting to me how close they come to making a great sub and yet fail to do so. read more

I love their sandwiches. Their bread they use is delicious. I also love how seriously they are taking COVID-19. They have built a structure on their store front to provide drive through pick up. They are not allowing customers into the store. Staff is always wearing masks. They even sanitize your card and wrap it in a napkin when they return it to you. Highly recommend! read more

We showed up 15 mins before close and they were friendly and accommodating. Once we ordered our subs and sodas we sat down and got comfortable. I got a can of Diet Coke and my husband got a fountain drink. The Can was old and wouldn't open and once we busted it open it was flat and tasteless. The girl then let me get a fountain drink and was super polite about it. At this point I'm pleased with the experience so far. The sandwich maker calls out our sandwiches to be done at 6:57 and we open them at our table. One of the girls says "just so you know we close at 7...". My husband states "Thanks, we will eat quick." 3 mins later it's 7 and the girl goes "Ok, it's closed you guys all need to leave; we have to lock the doors." We are literally three bites in and we have to eat outside. My husband asks what her name is so we can call the owner the next day to discuss the situation and the sandwich maker goes "we can't give out names". Haha. I ate the Philly cheese steak and the meat was pretty bland tasting. No salt no pepper to season it. It tasted like I was eating hot bread with peppers on it with cheese. For the price the meat needs more flavor. I'm not sure if you taste test what you serve but maybe you should. I wouldn't recommend to anyone. read more

The menu link as of this writing takes you to some restaurant with the same name somewhere else. Not knowing this I called an order in and was a bit surprised when the person taking the order didn't understand what I was ordering. I described what I wanted figuring the menu was old or something. When I got in I was charged $32 for two 10 inch subs and a cookie. Outrageous. I attempted to explain to the manager the situation with the online menu and how I felt blindsided by the price. The restaurant menu online would have cost half of what I was charged. He was not the brightest knife in the drawer and kept deflecting the very simple communication that the Yelp listing was incorrect. He treated me badly overall and one of his employees was making fun of "the guy that called ordering a sandwich they never heard of" while I was standing right there. These people are as dense as their crappy sandwiches. I paid the price figuring they must be good at least AND THEY WERE MEDIOCRE at best. I had a veggie which was basically pizza toppings on a bun, badly in need of salt and flavor and the homemade bread was extremely low grade. Their "Bassio" was dense with coldcuts but I asked for it heated and it wasn't and it too was simplistic and mediocre. Avoid this place. read more

I would have given a 5 star rating normally just for how good the subs are here. But, OMG!!! It took forever to get 1 sub. We called it in and they said it would be ready in a minute. Being realist, we knew it wouldn't be that quick but over 35 minutes later it was finally finished. They do have 1 of the best subs around but the management there is horrible. At the end of the day, it is only a sub that's being put together and with good management service would be quicker. 5 employees there and 1 person making sandwiches. It seemed all were more worried about naming the band playing on the radio, shooting garbage into the trash cans and socializing with each other.
