Our cabin host suggested this place so I took my family here DESPITE seeing the Confederate Flag flying outside their restaurant. As soon as we walked in, the waitress told us that we wouldn't be served for over an hour because they're busy. We noticed that the restaurant wasn't quite full and that they had tables. Fine. We routinely get take out from here as we just moved right down the road. It's always delish and the staff is great!

We decided to go into this establishment with an open mind even after seeing the confederate flag display outside, that was a big mistake. As soon as we walked in, there was an awkward feel and awful ambiance. The waitress was rude and we decided to take our business elsewhere after a terrible interaction with her. Do not go here. We should have known better then to step foot in this establishment and glad we did not stay. Save yourself and go just 12 minutes down the road to Soldotna. There is a nice brewery with amazing pizza just down the road. read more

Best pizza we ever had. The crust was amazing! We got the namesake pizza, The Magpye, very very good. Can not wait to try something with a red sauce! I wish they were open a little later. Awesome pizza with an attitude. As an airline pilot I travel around the world and I love pizza. This pizza is in my top 2 pizza places ANYWHERE! They PILE up on the fresh toppings and cheese. If you are a pizza lover and pass this place up you've done yourself wrong. This is NOT "California pizza kitchen" pizza, with one piece of topping per slice. The pies are heavy!! The owner might not meet you with a big smile, ass kissing and a "customer is always right" attitude, but she is the first to help when someone in the community is in need or there is a natural disaster. As stated her 9PM closing time is NOT the latest they take an order, it is when they close and expect customers to be gone. It is just the price you pay for awesome pizza. read more

Great (winter time) hamburgers! Great service! Friendly server! However!! I didn't look at the printed receipt that was handed to me just before we left by different server(paid on card reader). Once I got home & looked at receipt & saw we'd been charged for 2 drinks each, when the 4 of us had only had ONE! $21 over charge! Not to mention I'd given a 20% tip! Thanks to other Yelpers reviews we stumbled on this place. Sooo happy we did!! We will be back! Heck, we may just drive down from Anchorage to get some for the day - when gas prices calm down a bit. Customer service was great - friendly & happy! Even offered to throw our pie on the oven closer to closing time so we could stay on the river fishing a little longer. But if you think the customer service is the best thing about this place you clearly haven't had a slice of their heavenly pizza. The crust is delicious! I don't think you could go wrong with ordering anything off their menu! A month later we are still raving about this place to our friends in Anchorage! Out of all the places we have travelled in the US, This place is in our overall top 3 ever!! We can't wait till next time! Give them a try you won't be disappointed! read more

Walked in @6:30 group of 5. 3 open tables wanted to put tables together and told they were full and then a couple that had a large group told us that one of they tables they had for they're group they didn't need and offered it to us. But the waitress then started yelling at one of our kids that tried to get a chair to sit with us that he couldn't have the seat. Frustrating. I understand your busy and overworked but that's no way to treat customers, better yet locals that keep you in business during the slow winter months. Sorry Maggie but we won't be supporting the business anymore. Went to 3 bears grabbed some frozen pizza, took it home and had a better meal, definitely friendlier service and didn't have to tip the waitress so we saved a bundle!! I 100% love to help out local businesses but I don't enjoy getting belittled and made to feel like I'm not welcome. PS I love the confederate flag out front!! read more

We didn't have a great experience here, unfortunately. We ordered around 6 and there was only one other customer. It took 1 hr for 2 pizzas and a salad. Also unfortunate was that my veggie pizza dough was completely raw. Like I could wipe raw dough off and it tasted very unappetizing. I ended up eating the veggies off the top. To comment on some other reviews re: poor service, etc. the owner/ server was a bit gruff but sometimes you just have to roll with it and look at it as entertainment. Kind of like the Soup Nazi on Seinfeld :) And the liquor laws in Alaska are pretty stringent too. I'd absolutely eat there again! read more

Terrible customer service. We walked in at 8 and sat in the bar. We tried making small talk to the bartender to see if her attitude would warm up. Her response to a simple question was, "all orders placed after 8:30 are to-go." I see this is a theme in the reviews. If they don't want customers to eat at their restaurant then maybe they should make it to-go only. Just a thought. Oh and the food is sub-par at best. I will never eat there again. Consistency might be an issue, but I'll tell you right now, I had the best pizza of my entire life, (and I've had a lot) at Magpies. Bbq chicken, jalapeños, pineapple, bacon, onions. I also love stopping in here for a quick brew when coming in, or heading out of town. Great local joint with awesome food and beer. read more

Who would have thought there was good pizza in the middle of Alaska? The pies at Magpye's are better than most pizzarias in Hawaii...I'm hedging it's probably even better than that brick oven pizzeria on Kauai. They use all fresh ingredients, not overly sauced, and cooked just right where the juices of the pepperoni, sausages, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, and olives weren't dry and the dough wasn't thick or chewy. We stopped at Magpye's while enroute from Seward to Homer, AK. after Yelping the area. The single review was convincing and we were in the mood for good pizza, so we took a chance and were very pleased. Magpye's is a funky little cabin-style building along the Sterling Highway with a tall sign on a bright red pole. The landscaping is decorated with colorful floral-shaped pinwheels and a beautiful pine tree. Inside, there is a bar and a big, open, cafeteria-style dining room that lacks warmth and has terrible acoustics, but the pizza makes up for it. The dough is made from scratch and the ingredients are almost all fresh--except the mushrooms on our pizza appeared to be canned. However, they tasted good and did not at all detract from the fresh, balanced flavors of the pizza. Excellent food!! Definitely worth the stop. read more

Growing up in the area might make my opinion a little one sided. Keep in mind this is a small town and the restaurant is generally full of locals. They are short staffed from time to time so the wait time might be more than you are used to. But the beer is always cold and served in a frosty mug if you like it that way. They keep a few local brews on tap as well. Pizza is fair, and the crust is great. The burgers are priced fair and always seem to be fresh. This is my go to for a cold beer and a burger after work. read more

We didn't have a lot of choices here in the wilderness of Alaska. The reviews were mixed...mostly the food reviews were great..but the service reviews were awful! We decided to get "to go". The lady on the phone was "almost" pleasant. My husband went to pick up the food and said she was AWFUL! Rude and yelling at her kids or something. Very consistent with all the other reviews. But....our pizza was absolutely delicious! The crust was sooooooo good and perfectly crunchy. The toppings were abundant! Get it to go and you'll love it.
