Due to the rainy day, I found myself in Independence, MO for my kids to play indoor pickleball vs. outdoors. Using Yelp to find a healthy lunch for myself and some fellow pickleball moms, I came across Jerusalem Cafe. It was super close to the venue, I could order online, and it had some delicious looking options. Plus in addition to the great reviews, I saw a local family enjoying their Jerusalem Cafe order which cemented my decision. I went with a Greek Salad + Chicken Gyro for myself and ordered a "Build a Bowl" for one friend and another Greek Salad another friend. I also ordered a hummus with veggies for us to share. Everything was ready for pick-up when I arrived. Service was friendly and I found the pricing to be fair - especially for the large portions. It was around $45 total for all of the above. We enjoyed everything we ordered as well as the pita it came with. Was it the best I've ever had? No. Was it perfect for the occasion. Absolutely. This location is in a shared plaza with lots of parking. We ordered online and picked up our food. The online ordering was pretty easy and they sent texts from order receipt to notification that that the food was ready. It is has a cool open area with some cool decor. I have been to Jerusalem cafe plenty of times and every time the food has been great! If you get a plate you get MASSIVE portions at a great price! Theres so many different items to choose from and everything I have tried has been delicious. The food comes out very fast and the people who work there are very friendly. I came here for the first time and ordered Togo food. I told the person at the counter I had never been here, and he was very helpful. He not only explained what things were but also recommended things. I ended up getting a Gyro and a chicken shawarma bowl. I got it loaded with salad as my base. The tzatziki and the garlic sauce-so good! Loved the bowl and would get it again. My husband got the lamb Gyro, and he gave it a solid seven out of 10. It was spotless inside, bright, and decorated with pictures of Greece, so dining in feels more restaurant-like for being counter service. This will definitely be something. We went there on the good YELP review, and it's not too far from where we're staying for the night. The ordering was easy. They have large photos on the board, they didn't have prices though. The food, we ordered the Combo Kebab of Beef & Lamb kebab, lentil soup and rice as two side dishes. Also there's tzatziki sauce (hubby love that), and pita bread. I thought, our pita came with their famous hummus, but it didn't. The staff came back to tell us that. And he also gave us a bonus of warm pita bread with hummus, as complimentary. (Thank you!) We got a bulk order of takeout and half of it was ready 20 minutes before the rest which ended up in some people eating cold food (me included) which definitely contributed to the overall judgement. We also didn't get some of the things we ordered like extra pita, however, the side pita in general was really disappointing and people who have eaten here before said that is not what it normally is, but it was basically like a tortilla. The beef & lamb gyro meat is fantastic, it's flavourful and tender. It's my go to when we stop in. The Falafel is perfectly crispy on the exterior and yet moist and tender inside... the flavor is delicious. It's probably the BEST Falafel I've ever eaten. The salads are my husband's favorite... he raves at how fresh and crispy the salad greens are... and the tomatoes and onion are like fresh picked from the garden... juicy and firm... So very fresh. They load the salads with greek olives and tender chunks of firm feta cheese. The house salad dressing has citrus notes that are slightly sweet yet balanced. Everything seems fresh to order. I really wanted to enjoy this food experience. The reviews were great and I love to find places that serve lamb. I ordered a Lamb Kabob Combo with rice and a Greek salad. I also ordered a strawberry lemonade which was refreshing and delicious. I was not blown away by my meal, though the portions were awesome. The lamb was tough and I probably should have ordered the chicken which most people mentioned in the reviews. I just like lamb and wanted to give it a try here. The staff were efficient and friendly so I plan to try this place again. I think I will try the chicken next time. This is a fun vegetarian friendly stop in Independence with one of the largest lemonades I have ever had- and it was SOOOOO GOOD. The merch is cheeky and funny! The food was amazing! Back home our local Greek place went out of business because the owners retired. So I've been craving a gyro and happened to be working nearby so I stopped in for lunch. Got the gyro with Cajun fries and Greek salad. Fries were the only ok portion of the meal. The gyro and Greek salad were great. The gyro meat was so flavorful, veggies were crispy, the sauce was just right amount of creamy and just a touch of tart. Pita was fluffy and soft. Really great hummus / babba appetizer plate with hot, soft pita to start things out. Had a variety of options and all were delicious. The gyros, the kabobs, the sides - all totally great. I've watched Jerusalem Cafe signs for when they were open. I drove by there today and they are. Boy am I glad they are there. They are new, clean and friendly plus delicious! I couldn't figure out what I wanted on the menu. I ended up with the falafel sandwich with hummus, and Ofcourse, the baklava combination dessert. It was so good. It came with yellow saffron rice and a Greek salad. The falafel and hummus is delicious and it's totally worth ordering. The baklava was absolutely the best choice I made all day. I'm visiting for a few days and had the pleasure to eat here. I'm happy to say the food was delicious, the vibe is great, and the prices are fair. The service was great as well since as soon as we ordered, our appetizer was delivered minutes later to enjoy while the rest was being prepared. Disappointed in the quality of the Gryo. Do you know how Mexican restaurants start out with great fajitas? The meat is always tender and cut in long strips. Then as the restaurant ages, the strips of meat turn more into little chunks of crispy ends of meat. That's what their Gryo sandwich reminds me of. I have loved Jerusalem Cafe for decades - decades! Recently, I've lost vision and am legally blind. I'm able to navigate some things, but need assistance with others. Navigation of the web is difficult without help. Recently, my husband was out running errands and called to see what he should pick up for me to eat for dinner. I was craving Jerusalem Cafe. I was able to find the number and called. I asked if I could place a pick up order. The man said no and that I would have to use the web site. No one else was at home to assist me with this.
