We met up with friends at Paros Estiatorio and honestly weren't quite sure what to expect. After looking through the menu and photos beforehand, I landed somewhere between casual and upscale with jeans, a button-up, and a jacket. At first I felt slightly overdressed, but as the evening went on the crowd definitely skewed more polished, though overall it still leaned approachable and relaxed. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and one of my favorite parts was being able to watch the kitchen in action. The lighting and music might be a little challenging for some older guests, but we had no trouble carrying on conversation at the table. Service was on the slower side, though we were there to enjoy the evening and never felt rushed. We started with the spanakopita and grilled octopus. The spanakopita was excellent, perfectly crisp phyllo with a filling that leaned more spinach-forward than feta-heavy, which I really enjoyed. The octopus was fresh and flavorful, though it wasn't as much of a hit with the rest of the table. For salads, we tried the roasted beet salad and the watermelon feta salad. Both were fine, but on a return visit I'd probably skip them and save room for more appetizers or mains. For entrées, I ordered the lamb shank while my wife had the moussaka. Both dishes were excellent, but the moussaka absolutely stole the show. It's served in a square baking vessel and is rich, comforting, and easily large enough to share between two maybe even three people. To finish, we took baklava to go and stayed for the crème brûlée, which was exactly what you want from a classic version of the dish: creamy custard with a perfectly caramelized top. After recently moving to Kansas City from California, I had the opportunity to dine at Paros last night. I'd only heard glowing reviews and was really looking forward to it. Walking into the bright, tastefully appointed restaurant, I was pleased to see it wasn't the over-the-top, kitschy blue and white I'd feared. The maître d' was pleasant and accommodating when three of us arrived 30 minutes early for our party-of-seven reservation, and we were happily seated at the bar for a pre-dinner drink. As I passed into the dining room, I noticed the window into the kitchen, which added to the ambiance. The waitstaff were smartly attired, professional, and polished. Our servers were knowledgeable, efficient, and truly outstanding--it's been years since I've experienced such solid table service. For starters, we shared several plates. Unfortunately, our tasting board (an assortment of vegetables, pita, hummus, and tzatziki) tasted as if someone had taken a salt grinder to the whole thing. On the upside, the fried chickpeas were a fun addition, and the stuffed grape leaves were delightful. Three of us ordered the scallops and risotto for our entrées, and that's where things unraveled. The scallops were cooked to perfection, but the risotto was overwhelmingly salty. My sister took one bite and sadly said, "It's too salty." I tried mine and had to agree. Our father--ever the Midwesterner--finished his dish despite the saltiness rather than complain. I quietly informed our waiter that all three risottos were over-salted. I share this because I truly wanted to give Paros five stars: the service and atmosphere were incredibly enjoyable, and the wine list (with plenty of Greek options) was terrific. Clean modern look and noise levels are low enough for a plleasant conversation. The cocktails were also amazing. The food however, not uo to par. Our waiter sold us on the chilean sea bass and it just was uneventful. There was no flavor, the fish was a bit too chewy and the slaw that accompanied it just as bland. The others in the group ordered the lamb chops and salmon. Salmon was the favorite of the table. Lamb was also not up to par. Paros Estiatorio gave me a little taste of Greece without ever having to grab my passport. The space is beautiful with crisp white linens, soft lighting, and an open view into the kitchen so you can see the action. We started with the saganaki and yes it came to the table flaming like it had something to prove. Salty, melty, and worth every bite. The dolmades were fresh and bright with just the right hit of lemon. My chicken souvlaki was juicy with that perfect grilled char and came with roasted lemon potatoes that I could eat every day and never complain. The side salad was fresh and light with cucumber, tomato, and greens, plus the pita bread was soft and warm like a hug. The beet salad was gorgeous, fresh, and came topped with an edible orchid which felt like a vacation on a plate. Service was friendly and attentive without hovering. Everything felt thoughtful, from the plating to the pacing. It is not the cheapest Greek meal you will find, but for the quality and presentation, I felt it was worth it. We stumbled upon this Restaurant by accident and we were very excited by the atmosphere and menu. The two hostesses that greeted us were completely unwelcoming and a little rude -when we asked to make a reservation the hostess made an odd sound under her breath as if she didn't want to be bothered to put us in and informed us before we told her what evening we'd like to come that they only had outdoor seating. When we inquired about coming in the following evening and that we were concerned about rain, she laughed at me and said that could I not see that the patio was covered? We dine out at a lot of restaurants like North, Plate, Chophouse, and have never experienced such rude front of house service. Price seems to deter a fair number of guests, but I don't feel it is overly high for what you are getting and experiencing. If you are expecting to eat a ton of food and need to be rolled out for the money you spent, then this won't be the place for you. We got the Moussaka and Lamb Shank and both were very good. I've never had potatoes quite like what was on top of the moussaka. So creamy but with a perfect golden crisp on top. I don't know what the spice that dominated the dish, but I loved the auroma. My mom and I love this restaurant. We take visiting family when in town. Customer service is outstanding. The owner comes by your table and checks in with you during your meal. You can see her working in the kitchen area thru the window and then she comes out to your table. What a great business concept. They have outside dinning. Drink menu is great. The space is very attractive, however on the bitterly cold night, we were directly in line with the door so my poor boyfriend kept being blasted with cold air every 10 mins, maybe a curtain would help - it's not fun to be in line with the door! We started with cocktails - I had the Persephone's Dream and my boyfriend had the Santorini, we both enjoyed them. Then we ordered the kataifi shrimp - really yummy, but it's annoying when an appetizer comes with 3 pieces. It's not enough food for 2 people - especially when it's as tasty as this was. Then we ordered entrees. My boyfriend got the moussaka; I got the Chilean sea bass souvlaki with a side of Greek fries. Everything tasted really good. There was an interesting slaw with the sea bass. Very light and flavorful. My only complaint is I would have liked a crispier fry on the fries, but the seasoning was delightful. Then we ended up waiting a while. A big table came in about halfway through dinner and we lost our waiter for a while. He was very attentive beforehand but we sat at the table, not eating with no bill or order in, for at least 15 mins. Once he was able to come back over, we ordered the galaktoboureko, which was really interesting and tasty. The meal was pretty pricey but we thought the quality was worth it. The best anniversary date night spot!! My husband blew it out of the park with a surprise date night here! The space was gorgeous and cozy! We did end up by the kitchen, so the light was a little harsh, but it also made for good photos so I can't really complain! Started off with a round of cocktails - I had the Persephone's dream, essentially a pomegranate marg that was smoky and sweet. The husband had a Greek mojito, and despite having a version of ouzo in it, he loved it! Food wise we had to start with the saganaki (flaming cheese) - it was crispy, cheesy perfection. For mains we had the lamb shank, upgrading to feta mashed potatoes, and the kotopoulo (chicken). Both were very well cooked, tender, and flavorful. The sides were also excellent - the caramelized carrots were delicious. We ended the meal with dessert - a vanilla custard pie with filo dough and a lemon-honey sauce. I would butcher the name, but it was unique and not too sweet. Our waitress, Ashley, was amazing. So sweet, great recommendations, checked in, and even brought us some champagne with dessert when she knew we were celebrating our wedding anniversary! I'll start with the bad-the moussaka was awful. It was a dishful of grease. The meat on the bottom was not seasoned. I think of moussaka as having meat with a hint of red wine and tomato. This moussaka had favorless, greasy meat. The potatoes were not seasoned. The zucchini threw me off. The onions were crunchy. The bechamel crust was okay-you could taste a hint of nutmeg. One of the worst dishes I've even had at a restaurant. Two people at the table had lamb chops. When I asked about their meals, one said tough, the other said overcooked. The person who ordered the lamb shank said it was okay. The mezes board was great-nice fresh vegetables, good olives, good sauces, delicious pita. The spanakopita was good. A little bit saucier than I expected. Service wasn't good. It was very rushed. Before we had our coats off, we were asked if we wanted a cocktail. Our reply was: give us some time to look at the cocktail and wine list. Half a minute later, the waiter is back. I had looked at the wine list and two others had chosen cocktails. The fourth person gave up and said: just bring a pinot noir. Water was never refilled even though two glasses were empty. When the appetizers arrived, the waiter asked if we were ready to order. I said yes but we wanted a leisurely meal. We ordered. The entrees came before we were done with the appetizers. When we ordered cocktails I explicitly stated we wanted separate tickets, even joked that we didn't know the other couple. I guess they can't do separate tickets. So if you want good moussaka try Never on Sunday in a strip mall on Holmes. It does have its downside, warmed in a microwave that leads to some hot spots and cold spots. Get it to go, put in the oven for 10 minutes to evenly warm. read more

BB's Lawnside smoked catfish puts it to shame For $18.00. The octopus was tough and leathery. The lamb shanks were overcooked and chewy. (Must have been leftovers). And the rice and spinach side was swimming in olive oil. The only thing that was decent was the baclava. But not worth going there just for desert. We won't be back! A Greek dinner for over $300.00. Let me start off by saying how beautiful this restaurant is. It is aesthetically pleasing and the ambiance of this place is so nice. I love how bright and chic this restaurant is. This place is definitely the place to go on a date or have a get together with your group of friends. They also have an open bar and outdoor seating area as well. Food: The food was okay. Presentation was beautiful, but the food didn't quite impress me. I ordered the pacific halibut dish and the fish was good but the soup base was super sour.... The sourness of the soup was the only thing I was disappointed in. Plating was beautiful though. The trio sampler we ordered was super good though. The home made pita bread, hummus and other dipping sauces were so good. I would definitely order that appetizer again. The food overall was decent, but I would definitely come back and give it a try. You may not be aware that Kansas City has its very own Greek island, tucked away in Mission Farms at a place called Paros Estiatorio. Ok, so it may be missing the impressive coastline and ocean breezes, but I assure you it boast all the fascinating flavors and rich cultural dishes you would experience if you traveled to Greece yourself. Full disclosure, traveling to Greece can be expensive, so don't expect a cheap date night. However, the quality, taste, and portions are on par with what you would expect from a fine dining establishment. Because you can't really visit Greece without experiencing the flaming cheese or "Saganaki," we started our evening there. Served with warm, soft, grilled pita slices, the cheese was a melted, flavorful, spreading of goodness that will have you feeling like you've been invited to eat with the Gods. Normally, when we get an appetizer, my wife will insist I eat the last piece, but there was no shame in her game on this night as I watched with deep sadness while she devoured the last of this traditional treat. Next, we split the Karpouzi salad, with watermelon, arugula, feta cheese and walnuts drizzled with honey and mint. I know they say everything taste better with feta, but this salad was so amazingly refreshing it was mind blowing. If cool summer days could be prepared and put on a plate it would taste like this! Already more than satisfied with our local trip to Greece, I could have ended the night there and been completely happy, but there was still more to come. Keeping things simple for my entree, I opted for the Lobster Pasta, billed as fresh Maine lobster with cherry tomato fennel sauce, over spaghetti. Apparently, Athenian style means a whole lobster! After the initial shock and amazement of what was presented in front of me, I dove in to enjoy more of the deliciousness these Greek Gods had to offer. Exploring more godly gifts, my wife ordered the Agiorgitiko, a braised lamb shank with feta mashed potatoes and carrots. She made noises that should be reserved for the bedroom as she savored every "fall-off-the-bone tender" bite, but assured me her love for me is still strong. Extremely full, and slightly worried about how dessert might have seduced my wife, we called it a night and left this little, Greek, Leawood paradise. This is the best new addition to Mission Farms. Not that Paros is super new but due to COVID it feels like it is new. This is not your typical Greek restaurant as it is more upscale and their dishes they offer are authentic with a modern twist. Everything we ordered was delicious! Our drinks were so good, not too strong on the alcohol and not too sweet either. It took us forever to order because I seriously could not decide what I wanted. (mental note here that of course I will be coming back to try everything else) For my main dish I ordered the Moussaka which was mwah chef's kiss. It was so good and I actually had some leftover and surprisingly it held up well for the next day. I am not huge on leftovers but I was not going to waste a single bite of that dish. It's rich, but definitely worth the try. (IMO) it's not served with enough pita. Octopus is presented very well... so well that your taste buds go into an automatic frenzy. Unfortunately, they are disappointed once you taste the dish. It's very, very bland. And the tentacle that is served is very small. The lamb chops were larger than an average lamb chop; however, (and as other reviewers have pointed out), they are extremely fatty. The fries that it's served with are decent. The fagri is really good and the server even filleted it table side. Its simply grilled and has a very delectable seasoning and crispness. The brussel sprouts were mushy, but have a lovely addition of dried fruit (raisins). Interior is spotless, everywhere. I very much enjoyed the experience here, but it's not on the must return list.
