After moving from California to Colorado a few months ago, I was on a quest to find a Mediterranean restaurant just like (or better) the one I left in California when I moved. My friend told me all sorts of good things about Jerusalem Restaurant and I was excited to try it. They have a good variety of things on their menu. I always get the Super Combo plate because it came with a lot of different things. I fell in love with this restaurant the first time I came here and always come back when I'm craving this type of food (which is often). Their shawarma is flavorful and I looove the stuffed grape leaves. And I cannot even get started on the desserts--YUM! The food has yet to disappoint me and I will continue to eat here. I've been going to Jerusalem Restaurant for the past decade and more times than not, I have a wonderful experience. There have been a few times where the food was not up to par, but I keep coming back because when it's good, it's good! The staff is friendly and helpful. Honestly, the food is so good. Like really good. And we come here often . But I have to take off a star cause the service is horribleeee. Like really horrible. The waitresses are all pushy and impatient. Every one I've ever had. I just left there, and we paid partial on card, partial cash and should have had $10 change. We never got our change, had to find the owner, and he goes oh! You want change? And when we got out "change" back, only got $6!!! He pocketed $4! Great food if you're into middle eastern cuisine. I had the beef gyro and found that the cucumber yogurt sauce was lacking in flavor, but the portion size was really large for a $6 item on the menu. My wife got the chicken gyro plate which was about twice the cost but it also came with lots of bread, rice, chicken and other toppings. The portion size is great for the price without a doubt. We just moved into the neighborhood recently and went quite late at night. We tried the pistachio birds nest and the baklava. I certainly will never order the birds nest again as it is appropriately titled and dry like chopped up cardboard. The baklava was good but I have a feeling it was somewhat old because the bottom layers were quite soggy which is my only real complaint with the food. read more

I came here with a group of friends who insisted me to come try out this place. It is really a tiny place and you are seated really close to others usually all packed together. The food here looked good in the menu and when we was served. This place was also like another indian place i tried where they asked if we wanted some bread and of course we said yes. Like the other place it was also 2$ for bread per person which i find ridiculous. The food was lightly seasoned if you liked these kinds of things it would be a great place but not as flavorful as expected it to be. The rice was plain and meat was seasoned maybe with just salt. Bread was good but overpriced for a piece of bread. Tried one the desserts it was super sweet it was literally drenched in sugary syrup which even for my taste was overpowering and not good at all. read more

I was really hoping to like this restaurant, given their cheap prices, extensive menu, and long operating hours. However, their pita bread was dry and clearly store-bought. They had no record of our take-out order, which we had called in previously, so we had to wait for the new order to be made. To their credit, they were quick to make the new order. The gyro was plain, loosely packed, and fell apart. It left my taste buds screaming for a more tantalizing meal. The hummus was not memorable. And the baklava that I had been so eagerly anticipating was overly sweet, tasting of too much refined sugar or corn syrup and lacking in sufficient honey and walnuts to please this saddened palate. Would like to try out their other desserts, given the positive reviews of other Yelpers, but am reluctant to do so given the disappointing baklava. read more

I have been going to this place for over 8 years. It is not the fanciest place to dine but the food and service is great, the ambiance is traditional, unique, and fun in its own way. Their gyro meat and beef kabaobs are amazing and so is the lamb shank. They are usually very busy. The food is always fresh and comes out hot. I have tried their desserts on occasion and they're pretty good. It's open late which is great because it's one of the few places in town to get a decent (non fast food) meal late at night. read more

This is the first, and perhaps last, review I have ever written. This restaurant has failed every chance I have given. At best, Jerusalem (the restaurant) is inconsistent. At worst, it is a cramped hut for food and service that could double as a punishment for your sins. The only consistency lies in their aloof and protracted customer service. Their sandwich recipes and constructions seem to change with the seasons, no iteration being wieldy or presentable, with the hummus being either plaster or pudding, pita either dense and chewy or thin and lacking integrity, and their meat being varying degrees of dry. The to-go packaging was a mournful display of apathy. The all too thin hummus was pooled into a styrofoam container not suitable for liquids, which made the unpacking of the travesty to come seem unworthy of the trouble, in retrospect. The gyros were hastily crammed into their paper wrappings that shrouded a pitiful pita. I myself have made better. The readiness with which our sandwiches disintegrated into a pile was upsetting. The only upswing, the reason for the one star at all, is the ready-made cultural confections on display, packaged and out the door without any need for blind faith in the establishment. read more

I am a middle eastern originally and I can say that Jerusalem is a good place with a good selection of middle eastern food, but it's NOT the best in Denver. Overall, the foods have reasonable prices, specifically for Combo which is enough for two people. If you're looking for an elegant middle eastern restaurant, it is NOT your place. But it's definitely worth a try if you get hungry at 11:30 pm and you have to choose between this place and other open fast food restaurants. read more

I had Jerusalem cater a party recently and the experience was very positive. I feel like we got a good amount of food for our money, and said food was VERY well-received! The gyro was flavorful and tender, but the chicken kebabs were on the dry side. The baba ghanoush was absolutely to die for! I was sorely disappointed with my recent vist to Jeru's. As an alumnus of DU (1995-98), I remember the days when Jerus was a small but quality restaurant. It used to be a tiny cramped place, but it was always packed and the food was delicious, hot and served with a smile. Even as late as 2002, they had good food and service. I have been living in the northern suburbs since 2003, and my visits to Denver restaurants declined drastically. Last year, I was with a couple of friends and visited the restaurant. We sat inside, and waited for acknowledgment by a server or the host/ess. Five minutes nothing - it was not like they were busy or anything. It was 2PM, and there were only a handful of people in the restaurant. We walked out of there, but not without letting them know that we were disappointed with the service (or lack of it). I promised never to return. My family visited Denver a couple of weeks ago. Since my sister is a big fan of Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food, she recalled Jerus from a 1990's visit, and wanted to eat there. I accompanied my sister and her family, and I did tell them about my last experience at Jerus'. Nonetheless, I wanted to give Jerus the benefit of doubt. This time, we were greeted and our server (a young lady) helped set up a table for 8. Service was better, but thed food quality has definitely taken a dive. The pita bread and french fries were served cold. Our server responded to our request for hot food. Overall, the food experience was less than average hence the two star rating. I would give our server 4 stars for her friendly service. Jerusalem is no longer in my directory of places to eat. So long, Jerus. read more

Once upon a time, Jerusalem was my favorite late night spot in Denver, then my cousin and I got the worst food poisoning of our lives (during his trip out for our grandmother's funeral). We spent the weekend taking turns in the bathroom while our family mourned. I realize that this is drastic, but it is the truth. Neither of us were surprised, as the dining area does not seem particularly cleanly, though I am still disappointed. The food really does taste good, but I can never go their again in good conscience.
