Been here twice now; first on their Grand Opening and again yesterday. For $9.7, their baskets are a really great deal! The Flying Fish basket is breaded and fried greatly. The fish is hot and juicy. The Double Dip Ribs are crispy, juicy, and loaded with BBQ sauce. Once again, insane value for less than $10. Baskets come with 2 buttery toasts and a bunch of fries. I had lunch here with a large group of coworkers. We were afraid our big group would overwhelm the small staff, so a few of us ordered ahead to help alleviate some of the stress. We probably didn't need to, though, because everyone received their fresh, delicious food in a timely manner, delivered with a smile! And the food! I've been thinking about that perfectly fried, juicy catfish ever since. Had the big breakfast this morning with a side of grits and an extra side of sausage. The only complaint I had is that the potatoes were just a lil undercooked from the way I like my potatoes. Came in for lunch with friends. Super helpful and friendly, recommended that I ordered the double-dip basket, which was great. It came with 3 fried ribs covered in bbq sauce, french fries, and white buttered toast. One of my friends had the fried salmon rounds which were like salmon cakes, and they were great. The food is really, really good. The fried catfish I had in there the first time was some of the best fresh cooked fried catfish I've ever had other than homemade catfish. It had a really good flavor. The collared greens were cooked really well. They weren't mushy or overcooked. They were just right. The service is very good. All of the folks that work there are extremely friendly. I have not gotten to try the salmon croquettes yet, but want to. My mother used to make those growing up and I have not had those in a very long time. I enjoy going to Jess's because it reminds me of the food I ate growing up! read more

I visited this establishment one week ago. I was really excited to visit because of all the great reviews . Well, I know that everyone has an off day and last Sunday in my opinion was an off day for Jess. I ordered meals for a few family members and myself, everyone ( which is rare) had a complaint about their meal. For example, the Butter beans that I ordered literally had NO flavor. It tasted like it was just boiled in water. Now, I'm a Lowcountry, South Carolina Lady, so I know about flavoring and seasoning, sadly the soul food here lacked the soul food luster. Again, we all have off days, but that off day meal was costly and I no desire to repeat. Hopefully the best for you all. read more
