DELICIOUS! I forgot I was in Waco tbh. I went here with my parents, and we all gave it 5/5 stars! Joshua was an excellent waiter--very friendly and helpful. My parents had issues with the service the first time they came, around when Tia Juanita's first opened. But today, our food came out quickly and correctly...and it was SO GOOD! The drinks, the apps, the entrees--all of them were full of flavor and really tasty. I would describe the menu as Cajun, Tex-Mex fusion. We had the crawfish queso (bomb), shrimp/fish tacos (fresh and bomb but small), shrimp quesadillas (also bomb), and the hush puppies (slightly less bomb and v small, but still yum). The vibe inside is a little overwhelming. It's pretty loud, and it's worse when there's live music, I hear. Waiter was very short on conversation when I try to ask about food on menu, forgot to bring silverware, rcvd food and asked her for utensils to eat with and made a lil smirk on her face. My husband and I, along with three other couples, recently met at Tia Juanita's Fish Camp for a birthday celebration on a packed Saturday night. They offer an extensive menu, and the food was excellent. Our table enjoyed a wide variety of dishes, but here's what I personally tried: Dip Sampler with Queso Hush Puppies with Jalapeño Butter Boudin Balls Seafood Enchiladas Tia's Punch I would happily reorder every one of them on a return visit. Others in our group ordered chargrilled oysters, raw oysters, boiled crawfish, fried crawfish, a Po'Boy, quesadillas, and shrimp tacos. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, which tells me you really can't go wrong no matter what you choose. I also spotted several other items I'd love to try next time. Our server was personable and worked hard to keep up with the busy crowd. The live music added to the fun, lively atmosphere and made the evening even more enjoyable. So why not five stars? Although I made a 6:30 reservation, we weren't seated until 7:45. If a reservation isn't going to be honored close to the scheduled time, it's frustrating. That said, I would gladly return -- but next time, I'll either go earlier or later and won't rely on a reservation time being strictly honored. read more

Let me start by saying that I'm not a huge seafood fan, but that has never stopped me from supporting seafood restaurants, especially when they offer other menu options. I usually review the menu ahead of time so I know what I may want to order, and if there aren't many non-seafood choices, I'm still open to stopping by for drinks and the atmosphere. Unfortunately, my experience here was disappointing. The "fajita beef" was shredded so finely that I honestly couldn't tell what I was eating. I also had to send the beans back because they were cold, and overall the entire meal was only lukewarm. The service also left a lot to be desired. I mentioned that it was my first time visiting and hoped for a recommendation, but none was offered. The waitress seemed irritated and somewhat unwelcoming throughout the experience. We originally planned to just order drinks and decide later about food, but we repeatedly felt pressured to place an order. Because we were seated in her section instead of at the bar, it felt like there was an expectation for us to order a full meal, which made the experience feel rushed and uncomfortable. The hostess accidentally typed my phone number in wrong and it pushed us to the end of the line when we figured it out, so our wait was a little longer than it should have been. I got the fajitas with corn tortillas (ended up getting 2 corn & 2 flour). My husband got a po'boy and gumbo combo. He said the gumbo tasted a little burnt but he did eat it all. Great experience! Ashley was our server for the night, and she was so hospitable and attentive. She kept our drinks filled and gave us some awesome suggestions on what to order. The fish tacos were three tacos sharing a single small piece of tilapia, barely any food. My fried oyster po' boy and gumbo were also problematic. The gumbo had a burned roux and very weak flavor. I stopped after a few sips. The oysters were good until I bit into shell, and the bread was chewy and stale. Our server was new and didn't seem to have any server experience. He was able to answer all of our questions and always made sure our needs were met. There was a problem with my alcoholic drink but the manager immediately fixed it without me asking. The seafood platter comes with fried shrimp, oysters, catfish and a crab cake. It was a great dish to share with the family and we still had leftovers. The boudin ball was pretty good but didn't taste like boudin to me. Tia Juanita's fish camp! we stoped in for lunch on there opening week. The place was packed. The staff were nice and ready to assist when ready to order. The restaurant was clean. We ended up having an appetizer chips and queso - the cheese was spot on and chips were crispy. I attended this restaurant a 2 weeks ago and for a $32 steak fajitas, they served me more grilled onions than steak. The waitress only checked on us once after food came out and missed getting our second round of drinks and tried charging for drinks that never came out. Today I went there with my wife to give it another try, we sat there for 20 minutes after we got served our drinks and the bar tenders never checked on us to get and appetizers or another round of drinks but they seemed to be focused on only a specific section of the bar completely ignoring us. We ended up just getting up and leaving. Defiantly my last time there, I don't see how I could recommend it to anyone else. I liked the environment and that's why I tried to give it another chance. I am foodie so any time a new place opens I have to try it. We finally came with my family to come try this place. Food: the appetizers were the star of this place. Som really good ones. I highly suggest the bread bowl or the ribs, those were very tasty. Main meals were not good. Nachos were very mid. More chips than meat and other ingredients. Gumbo had an ingredient or something that was burned so when you took a bite of the gumbo you could taste the burned taste. Fish platters were okay. The shrimp brochettes I got were pretty tasty. Grits were mid as well. All in all, main meals were very mid. Service: The service was great. Waitress was on top of it. Helpers were too. So service was was great! Ambiance: the was another reason I scored this place as I did, it was EXTREMELY loud inside. The were blaring music and we could not hear each other when we tried talking to each other. The inside was funky and cool but the extremely loud music was a deal breaker. Overall: I wouldn't go out of my way to come again. If I wanted to give it a try in the future again, maybe.
