Po'girl shrimp combo with chicken/sausage gumbo and season fries

The shrimp was very very very and too salty, quesadillas were too greasy too!!! Waiter was very short on conversation when I try to ask about food on menu, forgot to bring silverware, rcvd food and asked her for utensils to eat with and made a lil smirk on her face. Tried to get her attention several times to tell her about the shrimp as she was passing by the table , she kept walking, so I asked another waiter to send a mgr to table. Nice social environment

My husband and I, along with three other couples, recently met at Tia Juanita's Fish Camp for a birthday celebration on a packed Saturday night. They offer an extensive menu, and the food was excellent. Our table enjoyed a wide variety of dishes, but here's what I personally tried: Dip Sampler with Queso Hush Puppies with Jalapeño Butter Boudin Balls Seafood Enchiladas Tia's Punch I would happily reorder every one of them on a return visit. Others in our group ordered chargrilled oysters, raw oysters, boiled crawfish, fried crawfish, a Po'Boy, quesadillas, and shrimp tacos. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, which tells me you really can't go wrong no matter what you choose. I also spotted several other items I'd love to try next time. Our server was personable and worked hard to keep up with the busy crowd. The live music added to the fun, lively atmosphere and made the evening even more enjoyable. So why not five stars? Although I made a 6:30 reservation, we weren't seated until 7:45. If a reservation isn't going to be honored close to the scheduled time, it's frustrating. That said, I would gladly return -- but next time, I'll either go earlier or later and won't rely on a reservation time being strictly honored.

The best way I can explain this place is it's a Mexican sports bar with a Cajun flare. Joshua, was a good server. He even let me try the seafood soup before ordering and I'm glad he did, it was not for me. On the other hand I did like the shrimp cocktail. It came out in this sundae glass .. Soo cute. I had the blacken redfish for my entree, it was good. I did like the pineapple salsa that came with it. It was suppose to have mango in it too but they are out of season, unless I just didn't get any. Overall a decent experience

The oyster were the best I had this side of the rio grande!!

Took my BFF Joy to celebrate her birthday, and Tia Juanita's Fish Camp made sure we had a night worth remembering -- full plates, fun vibes, and food that'll make you hum a little before you swallow. Starters: * Hush Puppies + Mexican Butter: Personally not my favorite combo, but the birthday girl tore them up like they were gold. So, respect. * Boudin Balls: Flavor? On point. Crunch? Yes. Temperature? Only warm. I prefer my boudin coming in hot like a Sunday morning praise break. Entrées: * Joy's Fajita Quesadillas: Gooey mozzarella, green onion fajitas, jalapeño ranch... I stole a bite (as best friends do). Absolutely delicious. Fluffy tortillas, great flavor balance. * My Grilled Chicken Nachos: Loaded, flavorful, and the kind of dish that tastes even better the next day. No notes. * Shrimp & Grits (sample): I only got a taste of the grits themselves, but OH MY... I'll be back for the full entrée. * Jumbo Fried Shrimp: Cooked and seasoned perfectly -- no complaints. * Shrimp Brochette: Good flavor, but the bacon wrap needed more time in the skillet. Sides were heavenly though -- jalapeño cheese grits, sautéed veggies, and a mango-pineapple pico I would order on its own. Drinks: Margaritas all around -- some Don Julio, some Hornitos. No one at the table had a sad sip. Service & Atmosphere: Clean restaurant, attentive server, engaged manager, and a chill vibe perfect for a birthday dinner. And a slice of sopapilla cheesecake topped with strawberries. Would I go back? Absolutely. There's more on this menu calling my name, and those grits alone might be worth the drive.

    Chicken and Beef Fajita Quesadilla

Let me start by saying that I'm not a huge seafood fan, but that has never stopped me from supporting seafood restaurants, especially when they offer other menu options. I usually review the menu ahead of time so I know what I may want to order, and if there aren't many non-seafood choices, I'm still open to stopping by for drinks and the atmosphere. Unfortunately, my experience here was disappointing. The "fajita beef" was shredded so finely that I honestly couldn't tell what I was eating. I also had to send the beans back because they were cold, and overall the entire meal was only lukewarm. The service also left a lot to be desired. I mentioned that it was my first time visiting and hoped for a recommendation, but none was offered. The waitress seemed irritated and somewhat unwelcoming throughout the experience. We originally planned to just order drinks and decide later about food, but we repeatedly felt pressured to place an order. Because we were seated in her section instead of at the bar, it felt like there was an expectation for us to order a full meal, which made the experience feel rushed and uncomfortable. Overall, the food and service did not meet my expectations, and unfortunately, I don't see myself returning.

Great food, great price, great atmosphere. Food comes out like a nascar pit stop......FAST!!

We tried this for the first time today. Good first impression. Fried green tomatoes were small so the thick breading took away from the green tomato taste. The grilled oysters were really good. We will return as the menu looks to have many more items we would like to try. Came a second time today. Stuffed mushrooms were great and had to try the other grilled oysters which we will eat again. Hush puppies were good but a bit bland. All in all the food here is something to come back to. Upgrading my score.

We have eaten at other Tia Juanita locations so we decided to try the new one in Waco. It was packed. The hostess accidentally typed my phone number in wrong and it pushed us to the end of the line when we figured it out, so our wait was a little longer than it should have been. I got the fajitas with corn tortillas (ended up getting 2 corn & 2 flour). My husband got a po'boy and gumbo combo. He said the gumbo tasted a little burnt but he did eat it all. The drinks are great. The Bomb pop was the BOMB. One of the best Bomb Ritas I've had.

The waitress was sweet, but remained slow throughout the entire meal. Our waitress never offered drink refills, and we waited extended periods for a to-go box and our check before finally going to the cashier ourselves. The biggest issue was a strong sewage-like odor coming from the restroom area. We were seated nearby, and every time the bathroom doors opened, the smell drifted into the dining room. Even the handwashing station in the dining area had the same unpleasant odor. The food looked great when it arrived, and the chips and salsa seemed fresh. However, I was disappointed to learn they no longer serve guacamole with their fajitas. The chicken fajitas arrived sizzling hot, but became very dry as they cooled. They were spicy, but lacked much flavor. The rice and beans were good. Overall, between the slow service, unpleasant smell, and mediocre food, I would not return or recommend this restaurant. There are plenty of other Mexican restaurants in Waco that I'd try before coming back here.
