We have ordered delivery from here several times, and each time it's been an awful experience. Have never had these problem with another Jewel-Osco. Whoever does the online order fulfillment marks everything as found and shopped in the app, so on paper it looks like our order is fulfilled. In reality, tons of missing groceries, or completely different swaps that we can't eat and didn't choose. If you think you'd be safe by selecting "don't replace", you'd be wrong! The shopper just seems to pick replacements at random. At times the replacements (for things that we specifically requested to not have replaced) have been offensively wrong. For instance, replacing obviously marked DAIRY-FREE expensive ice cream with random flavors of cheap dairy ice cream. Or replacing plant-based sausages with pork sausages? Nobody could possibly believe that is a reasonable replacement! We shop carefully and mark things "do not replace" because of food allergies, so it is especially frustrating to have that happen and especially when it is not just one mistake or oversight but significant portions of an entire order substituted with obviously ridiculous replacements, with no communication and no recourse. Because again, on paper, the order was successfully shopped without any swaps! Calling the store is not much help. You can expect to spend a lot of time on hold and getting transferred around and ultimately to not have achieved much besides get an apology. No refund, no understanding of what went wrong, no confidence it won't happen again. I have tried getting refunds through the app, but the parent company Albertson's denies the refunds requests without explanation or option to appeal. So far I have lost over $100-200 to this problem. I went to the deli counter at 6:15 P.M. today. I picked up 1 pound of hard salami which was on sale. I asked for a pound of cheddar cheese and the deli counter worker told me that they had cleaned the cheese slicer already and sorry. This Jewel closes at 10:00 P.M. but get your deli cheeses in the Morning I guess.... read more

Honestly so disappointed in all the employees whoever manages this places!!!! 10/08/24 18:32 I went in to buy almost 500 worth of stuff like every week and it's always the same I have and undercover employee following me and my mom harassing us standing in front of us and discriminating us how unbelievable but it continues I choose the self check out and after ringing up all the items this African American lady says that she has to ring it up on her own she stands so close to me that it feels uncomfortable while the undercover employee is also there and both of them are not wearing their name tag and while that's going on there's another employee blocking the exit just laughing!!! Items are always expired, yogurt, bacon, sour cream...check your items before you leave! Today it was the bacon that was on sale!

The pharmacists at this Osco are very unprofessional. My doctor sent a prescription here and 11 days later it still hasn't been filled. I made a few phone calls and they kept saying it would be in the next day. They never reached out to me to tell me what the issue was. Obviously they have some internal issue going on that needs attention. read more

I recently used the delivery service and ended up having a good portion of my order missing. Now I double checked and noticed another item missing. My eggs arrived with 3 broken. The order was sitting on my porch in the hot sun with no call from the delivery person. I put in for a refund and have to wait 24-48 hours. I would rather have these items re-delivered with no charge for delivery. read more

Great alternative if Dominick's on Ashland is closed. I don't think this is the cleanest Jewel that I've ever been to. I don't think it helps that the neighborhood is a bit shady, but they can't help that. I bought some value pack beef and when I opened it at home, 1/2 was already brown. Awesome. read more

Employees kept fighting each other it was so annoying, from employees being yelled at in the produce aisle to the cashier and bagger bickering, the bagger did not care for how things are supposed to be done, she kept whining when the cashier asked her to get her own rack of grocery bags instead of stealing from the ones right behind the cashier and gave attitude and they both threw my groceries around while arguing about the correct way to bag. There was a growing line and we were all frustrated and suffering second hand embarrassment. read more

I love this store. You have a new employee, a younger girl. Super pretty. Works mornings I believe. be careful. When ringing you up she doesn't know how to input a lot of sales.... Second time I've had this issue with her. Was over charged 30 to 50 dollars both times because she did not hit the subtotal button to automatically reduce the total with sale prices. After you've paid she then hits the subtotal button then Quickly hits the no sale button so you don't notice the amount that was deducted. I noticed and pointed it out last time so I was technically only over charged once. If she does it to me I can only imagine how many other people didn't notice and were also over charged. Please properly train your staff or put them in a different department please. Still gonna give 5 stars because you're always stocked when I go in and have very friendly staff :) read more

If you are in need of tamale making supplies this is the store for you. The advertisements are all over the store. If you need anything else you are in big big trouble. 1) Wanted Lorraine swiss cheese from the deli. Very scary situation as NONE of the meat and most cheese is NOT plastic wrapped so it is subject to the other flavors and odors in the cooler. Asked for a piece to taste and why it was not wrapped. Clerk claimed someone had just bought some and she just hadn't re-wrapped it. The cheese tasted like ass, weird deli meat, more ass and feet. NO thank you on that... 2) Vegetable bins were virtually empty. Almost like the apocalypse had occurred. There were many bannana's though. So I bought some. 3) The seafood cooler was very very warm and the shrimp in the cooler were 'sweating'. Gross. I hope noone gets sick from them. 4) Enough pop aisles to satisfy a diabetic coma but no real 'food' choices. Like bread. Or anything but tamale making supplies. Oh, but wait, there is an alcohol section that takes up as much of the store as the food. What does that say about this Jewel? Well you do the math, you want booze go here. You want food, don't. Jewel-Osco holds a special place in my heart since I am a Chicagoan. Many of my friends, family members, and neighbors had their first jobs at Jewel. Consequently, Jewel feels like an extended member of the family and neighborhood. Moreover, Jewel is like your older reliable aunt so to speak. It's convenient, sometimes more affordable than other supermarkets, and has great store brand goods. In efforts to compete with Mariano's, Pete's Fresh Market, and other new grocers, this Jewel has undergo a facelift and offers new products. The deli and meat counter have increased their selections, there are more organic veggies and fruits, and more prepared foods. I look forward to more improvements. read more

Recently remodeled. They did such a thorough job, they even stripped wallpaper covering old signage from when I was a kid. Produce prices are ok(go to petes for cheaper produce), but the Deli is solid and the hot foods are decently priced. Meat dept has alot of good items. Too bad they dont have as many manager's special(closeout meat) like dominicks. Prices are typical of all Jewel locations. The booze dept was upgraded when they rennovated, so a lot of good choices for beer and other booze. It's walkign distance to my house, so I just get stuff on my way home from work. Advice? Go there EARLY. The old ladies scoop up all the super sale items when most people are at work. read more

This review is mainly for your Deli section where the hot wings are. Your hot wings would be on point IF they weren't SO SALTY!! Is there anything we can do to lower the saltiness of your chicken wings?? I've bought them twice... First time I gave you guys the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe just maybe someone messed up the batter and added wayyy too much salt. But just recently I went back to give them a second try and SAME SALTY STORY. Won't be buying those anymore. I'll be running in front to kfc for my wings from now on. This Jewel Osco is always short-staffed. The employees who are actually scheduled to work there are friendly to me. Today is Cinco de Mayo and a Saturday. They only had enough help to have one regular register open. It looked like the managers opened on the Express mini registers. This resulted in two long lines- one for the express lanes (all four express registers share the same line) and one regular register. That express line was extremely long. The workers and the people in charge seemed like they were trying their hardest to get the lines down, but I don't know how management expects them to do this with the number of staff they have on a weekend holiday. Please schedule more cashiers at this location on weekend nights. read more

I don't go here that often. Now, I mostly buy fruits and veggies, and in my 'hood, there are many cheaper places to get fresh fruit. I really only go to Jewel if I need something I can't get anywhere else in the neighborhood (or if it's something that is overpriced at a supermercado): hummus, cereal, orange juice, sorbet, soy milk. Bread is cheaper here too than the supermercados, but I have a breadmaker now. What saddens me is that while other Jewel's I have visited include an aisle or two of all hippie-organic stuff, this one does not. Even Kroger in Memphis had an organic section! Come on! Memphis is more modern than McKinley Park's Jewel? Now, I don't buy all organic, but when you're vegan, a lot of the stuff you eat is organic. They don't have organic produce either. I do try to buy the dirty dozen fruits and veggies organic (see the Environmental Working Group's site). So I have to make a monthly trip to Whole Foods on Canal Street. I'd make a bimonthly trip if Jewel would bother to sell more organic stuff. read more

Horrible customer service at the Osco pharmacy. Lourdes (aka Lou-Lou) needs customer service training. I was on the phone with her on Tuesday (April 10th) and asked to speak to a pharmacist. She sighed and then she said, "ok, that's fine, but she's going to tell you the same thing." I'm on hold for almost five minutes. The time before that, I asked Lourdes if the prescriptions can be placed on auto refill. She said, it says here (looking at the screen) that you refused that. That's totally false. Again, I kept my cool and asked if the prescriptions could be on auto refill. Enough is enough already!! read more

WHERE IS THE HUMANITY?! Customer service is extremely terrible, and racial profiling is at an all time high at this location. I moved to the area a couple of years ago and to my dismay this was the most convenient location to me, BUT after 2 years of being "causally" followed around by security and other employees I have had enough. You would think those ignorant employees would get that I am a regular customer therefore I'm not going to steal. I even have exchanged smiles and words with the so called security they have, because I constantly see them in every aisle I turn, VERY awkward and borderline creepy. The cashiers are also very rude, on multiple occasions I have locked eyes with a worker and asked for assistance and they just look away as if my eye contact and verbal words were invisible. The last time this happened another store employee saw how frustrated I got and apologized for her red neck coworker and proceeded to to tell me she's hard of hearing....WTF is she working in customer service if she hard of hearing, and even if she was I was 2ft. away so it's nothing but utter BS. Then the same red neck checked me out but not after having a good 5 minute conversation with her other hill billy co-worker, it took ME to say something for them to stop and proceed with my check out( all the while giving me a dirty look). Every time I entire the store I feel like I am entering another dimension were segregation still exists and I am most definitely not welcome. I am not even African American but I guess a racist can not see past skin color. No one deserves such crude and an inhumane experience for some damn groceries. Like I previously stated this is the closest grocery store to me but I discovered a fabulous ALDI's a bit farther then I would like, but I will be eagerly going that extra distance and its WAY cheaper than Jewel-Osco! Regular super market fare but they do have a Tcf branch in there which is a plus because they also have one of the better liqour store dept in the area. Price is good, most of them are fresh. I always come here to buy my grocery three times a week. But I found something shocked me. I went there to buy a noosa yogurt. I come here once in a while when its only for an item or a few. I don't generally shop here for all of my groceries because they are a bit pricier than their competitors. Their store is pretty well presentable and maintained well. I use this primarily for flowers and random things I may need through the week or so. read more

The Jewel on Archer is the only grocery store within walking distance for me (I do not drive). The produce is not very good, had to look through the tomatoes to find some without rot on them, avocados that feel like water balloons they are so soft. They advertise lettuce on sale but if they have some, it is only 2 heads which look like crap. Quite often the time the items shown as on sale in the sale paper are not in the store, like their meats and chicken. When they do have the meat on sale, m y mom keeps complaining that the meat is fatty, that is not trimmed very well. Things that they used to carry are no longer stocked. For instance, they do not have red beans, but they have lots of kidney beans which are NOT the same as red beans (which they used to carry), or Kraft Sun Dried Tomato dressing. The store had been revamped, and since then the items that they used to carry have been deleted. The layout of the products leaves much to be desired, For instance, during Christmas I was looking for dried fruit to put in cookies and fruit cake, now it seems logical to have a product that is used in baking to be with the other baking items, but no, after going around and around the store and after asking several clerks where the dried fruit for baking was (they did not know and also told me that Jewel did not stock it) I found it on the end of an aisle. So I took some and went to the women who told me that Jewel did not stock it, showed them the fruit and where I found it. I was there last night to pay ahead which i never heard before at another store, new person taking care of me and this same person was there made sure my order wasnt ready on time. I concur with the earlier review about this location closing early. In my case it was last night, 9:58 pm (Internet Time which my phone is se to) when I walked up to find the doors locked. I even asked the Cart Boy to see the Manager. He went in and came back out to say "come back at 7 am, she said." One of the most basic things a bank or grocery store should do is let you in up until their posted hours. It starts at the top here. The Store Manager has an attitude problem, as well. read more

I was a frequent Jewel-Osco shopper until a couple weeks ago. I was ill and my boyfriend went to jewel to pick up some medicine at your location on 3644 S. Archer Ave. in Chicago Wednesday night June 29, 2016. I was on the phone with his when he arrived at the store at 10:50PM, which hours are stated as 7:00AM -11:00PM. As he tried to enter, to his surprise, both doors were blocked. One with a garbage can, the other with a sign preventing entry. This was strange because there were several customers at the check out registers, and the store still operating. A security guy comes to the exit, alerts me that they are closed. Confused by this, since once again the hours are shown as 11 :00PM, he remarked that it was not 11:00 PM yet and at this point it was about 10:52 PM as I verified on my phone. All the security guard could offer was that they were closed. No sorry, no explanation. He explain he just needed to run in and grab some medicine. Still no, and he explained that the last time he let someone in last minute, they ran in and grabbed a bunch of stuff. So now not only are you refusing to honor your posted hours. You are inferring that he might steal. Great!!! Unfortunately this gets worse.... Eventually he was allowed in but was greeted with a bad attitude and basically abuse that no consumer should tolerate. He probably never should have purchased the items. In the end the situation had escalated to the point where an employee called him a b**** and stated that they hope my bf gets sick when I (the girl on the phone) sucks his d*** later. Those were her exact words. And the employee of the year award goes to.....The chick crazy angry chick at jewel Osco who also took down my bf's license plates. After speaking to the store manger Glenn, we sent a written statement, which he asked for, but we never heard back. We called back and spoke to Alex (and it seems as though they had never read the statement, because he didn't know my bf ever made it into the store) and still no resolution other then the store will not be closed until 11pm.
