I am writing to report a deeply distressing and unacceptable experience at one of your Jewel-Osco locations in Spring Grove IL. During my visit, I was verbally abused, harassed, and subjected to discriminatory and racially stereotyped remarks by customers and it all happened because of one of your employees also all of your employees stood by and failed to intervene. Your staff did not offer assistance, protection, or support at any point, despite witnessing the situation escalate. Their inaction left me feeling unsafe, unprotected, and emotionally overwhelmed. The experience caused significant distress, to the point where I felt physically unwell from the stress and fear. This incident represents a serious failure in customer safety, employee training, and adherence to basic civil rights protections. No customer should ever be subjected to this type of treatment in your stores. As a result of this experience, I no longer feel comfortable shopping at Jewel-Osco. I strongly urge your organization to review your policies, training, and store leadership to ensure that no other customer is ever placed in this position. While some of their items are priced extremely high, those items among others constantly go on sale with very reasonable prices. Using the Jewel App will save you big time! I'm really tired of coming home with wings and the potatoes from the deli, and once AGAIN, have dried out wings and potatoes. I noticed today they put a tin in front of the wings tray, so the employee gets rid of the old ones first. Also the potatoes were dry as a bone. I called on this before to complain, but nothing as changed. I don't want an apology, I just want the person in charge of the delivery to get it together. I'm new to town and I am getting to know their staff. Everyone that works there tries their best to help me when I ask for things - learning a new store can be baffling and I am just not great at it all the time. Plus I tend to shop hungry which drives ME bonkers, let alone others. So I am writing to talk about how the produce department went above and beyond for me by ordering a case of okra and it's just beautiful. I wanted to make gumbo last week and I did, but not with fresh okra. I had to settle for frozen. I'm grateful to them for keeping that in stock for sure but nothing compares to fresh in my opinion. The store is clean and neat. Some of the customers are always putting stuff in places that they don't belong because they don't want to walk all the way over to where they got stuff from. I'm the kind of customer that puts it back when I notice it. How busy do you need to be in life that you're going to treat your grocers that way? Ugh. read more

This is my local store for when I need something quickly. I don't shop here for my normal grocery shopping because Jewel is over priced. I do really like their beef in the meat department so that is the one thing that I do come specifically for. They're always running a sale on their beef so I usually buy what's on sale. read more

As an employee who was forced to resign, I can safely say that this Jewel not only has a dangerous work environment, but also an incredibly hostile and toxic one as well. The front-end managers don't really care about their staff either, as I was told it was my fault I was almost mowed down by a vehicle outside the building. The lead front-end manager, Trudy, was also extremely demanding and aggressive when I simply tried to ask her a question. If they show you their true colors, believe them the first time. read more

I can never find anything here and there aren't a lot of staff members around to help. The store layout is really different/weird than all other Jewels. Also, phones don't work inside the store which is necessary sometimes, to call home to ask if you're out of something, or to look up a recipe. Wish the wi-fi worked. Checkout lines are great, and so are the cashiers. read more

I am from the big city, and not use to stores like this... I walked in and noticed right away how clean the store was, how everything was in immaculate order and stocked perfectly.. It looked like a commercial was filmed there recently! Picture perfect. The staff were helpful as I wasn't familiar with this stores set up, and instead of pointing out where something was, they would stop what they were doing and escort us to what we were looking for! Amazing! The ONLY reason I've posted a 4 star rating is due to the fact I am an older fella, and the store was quite dark as far as lighting goes. It was hard to see what was on the bottom stacks due to the lighting. But the staff are what count, and the cleanliness of the store was, once again, amazing. Thank you Jewel! I will be visiting again when I see my grandkids! read more

They changed everything around. Randomly. Entire floor plan. For no reason whatsoever. You cannot find anything. You cannot find anyone to help. When you do see an employee and ask them a question, they have a look of terror in their face because even THEY don't know where to find anything with the new layout. I am giving 2 stars due to the BABY PIGS I saw outside of this location today. I asked the girl who works at Jewel apparently and brought them, why are they here? She said "BUY BACON, PET A PIG". I said you got to be kidding me RIGHT? I think they have forgotten "If slaughter houses had glass walls, how many of us would eat animal?" If you hunt then great you have no issue with this, but how many of us hunt? These baby pigs were shivering and scared. Been a Spring Grove Jewel-Osco since it was built, I have nothing but praise for the store staff, especially the Deli and fresh food area. They run a tight ship so the employees must be treated fair. Pub purgers smell awful! I'm tired of throwing my money away! Chicken is always past expiration and smells too. The produce is moldy and never tastes good. Their dairy is expired, sometimes months past its date. I've bought canned vegetables that expired a year ago. They need to do a better job! So sad! I'm no longer shopping at this location until they are able to competently manage their inventory and stop trying to sell products that are LONG past their sale by dates. I understand mistakes happen but I've never consistently sees such poor inventory control. Whether that's the fault of their supplier or an internal issue is irrelevant since someone is ultimately making the call to continue using a poor supplier or choosing to continually stock expired products. I've now seen yogurt a month past its sell by date, milk several days past the sale by date, chicken past the "use or freeze by" date and the pub burgers that were purchased today smelled so horrible there was no way they could be served. The produce is consistently poor as well, brown lettuce, moldy strawberry and moldy blueberry. It's a shame because the staff is generally good but inventory control is a joke. I've lived in Spring Grove nearly 30 years. I was excited when jewel was built because of how convient grocery shopping would be, instead of having to drive to McHenry. Lately, each time I go into jewel someone (from an outside company) is trying to pressure you into buying or signing you up for something. It's getting ridiculous. Yesterday some lady was trying to get me to subscribe to Suntimes and I told her numerous times that I was not interested and she got an attitude with me. It screwed up my focus as to why I was there and what I was there to get. Frustrated the hell out of me enough to not come back. I'm done shopping at Jewel in Spring Grove. I've also noticed a lot of the staff has changed and they seem to not care about the customers as much. read more

Do not use their 'convenient' online ordering service for deli/bakery trays as they apparently don't bother to check, let alone fulfill, those orders. I placed an order and received confirmation of said order on 11/25 for pick up at 9 am on 12/11. When I arrived at the deli counter, there was one person working with her back towards me. I gave her a minute to finish what she was doing when another deli employee walked behind the counter, saw me but made no acknowledgement of me whatsoever. I waited a few more minutes before I 'interrupted' the first woman to ask for help. I said I was there to pick up some deli trays and from her expression, I immediately knew things were not going to go as planned. The other employee came over and asked 'when did you call it in" to which I replied, I placed the order online. I was then asked if perhaps I placed the order for the Fox Lake store - talk about adding insult to injury and insinuating that I am completely incompetent and can't read where I placed my order! I then had to show the order confirmation that was emailed to me on 11/25. The two ladies went to their order bin, confirmed my order wasn't there and offered to see what they could do....well, I planned to have the order picked up at 9 am and couldn't wait for them to throw something together. I spoke with the manager on duty and while she at least apologized and said she would try to see what they could do, I didn't have time to wait as I had to get back home to finish getting ready for my party...which, incidentally, now had no food thanks to the Spring Grove Jewel. Needless to say, I will NOT be shopping at this location again which is the closest to my home. I'm willing to travel to a further location to avoid getting aggravated and frustrated in dealing with such incompetence and sub-par customer service. read more

The jewel is not laid out like other jewels I have visited that are older. Stuff is hard to find because they didn't use common sense when planning the layout. I only visit this one out of convince of it being located near where I live. Recently I went in at 9pm to pick up something quick for dinner. I went to the deli, which yes the display case lights were off, but there was people behind the counter AND the salads were still in the case. I asked the girl if I could get the rest of the crunchy chinese chicken salad and she states "sorry, they are closed, and can't weigh anything". I know this is b.s. because my brother in law worked at the deli in jewel in waukegan. This was not the first time this deli seems to be bothered helping people. There seems to be alot of ten yeared employees who seems to not really care about customers like they should. Maybe if they removed the union from jewel the crap employees could be fired and one that want to work could be hired.... ps. Don't waste your money on the premade subs in the cold cases.
