I've never heard of Jewel-Osco till I got to Illinois..lol But so far so good, I think this is a great place to shop for groceries and essentials. I like how they're open late, till midnight, so I frequently come here, either after a gym session or after pickleball and shop for my usual fruits, veggies, and snacks. A lot of their items are discounted as well, and there's constantly deals on stuff. Aisles are pretty well organized and clean. Overall, pretty satisfied so far. read more

I usually don't rate poorly but another person also said that their delivery order to Wilmette was horrible. Visually Moldy Basil and Apricot. Lamb was expiring the next day as if I needed to make and eat it ASAP. Got charged twice for SKinney Pop which clearly stated on your website Buy 1 and Get 1. Every delivery order has been some damaged or expired. This store doesn't shop for customers with any sort of pride. Even had a problem with very expired wine box and spoke to and showed pictures to the manager Debra Glenview store who is delivery store for Wilmette IL and she didn't honor a refund. I've come here twice recently when my usual store (in Skokie) didn't have what I needed in stock (and we're not talking anything especially fancy....just regular whole white button mushrooms that were on sale and cherries that were also on sale). This store's selection seems much better and fresher. The mushrooms I've bought at Skokie have always been kinda gross looking, whereas these were so much more fresh. I may start coming here instead. But, Jewel is still stupidly overpriced for anything that isn't part of the "For U" coupon sale. Whole Foods is cheaper for regular pantry staples, but the produce sales at Jewel can be pretty solid. read more

What a futuristic jewel! Overall, impressed but what else can you expect from beautiful Wilmette, Illinois. Great facility that really sets the pace for a future revamp I hope to see in allother Jewel Oscos near me. This grocery store gave me a small town family feel with the amenities of a large retail chain. The only thing holding me back from rating five stars is unfortunately the restrooms. The cleanliness was simply sub par and out of character for a Wilmette establishment. Additionally the absence of a working urinal and hand soap cover were disappointing at best. What the hell, David R.? Reviewing a Jewel, seriously? You have sunk to a new low. Well, I have one main thing to say about this Jewel, and that is that it has the best bread around. In general, Jewel bread blows Dominick's out of the water. In fact, two recent experiences have shown me that Dominick's makes the worst bread in America. Anyway, this place is on my way home, so I find myself here quite a bit. I always thought, "Gee, their bread is pretty darn good here." I especially like the sesame semolina, but the wheat is great too. Then I tried those same breads at other Jewels, which were solid but not quite as good. And then came the debacles at Dominick's, and I thought, "Shit, I have had it too good all this time with the bread from that Jewel up on Green Bay. I need to do my public duty and tell the world." So sure, Jewel is Jewel, and I generally don't care for the chain. But this one is actually pretty spiffy, so you can do way worse in general when speaking about grocery stores, and they will absolutely do you right by the bakery breads. read more

Closest store to my home & I still can't find a good reason to shop here. Today I was confronted by an employee walking by when I said "You know your mask isn't really on". It was sitting between her nose and mouth and not covering either. She then walked directly up to me and lifted the mask up and down in a taunting manner. Waiting to explain this to a manager a woman in a motorized chair hit a stack of boxes stock guy left in front of the service desk. The manager couldn't understand why I mentioned this is the most chaotic store I've shopped at. In general many shelf spots are missing prices, checkout aisles are closed or not staffed with baggers during peak hours, and items may be shelved randomly based on type or ethnicity. (i.e. chinese mustard, italian olive oil, etc.) I had found it convenient for basics, but will drive a bit as there's just not a good reason to have the shopping experience you will have here. read more

A disappointing experience with Jewel grocery delivery. 25% of the order was not filled (c'mon no spinach or mixed greens in the whole store?), two eggs were broken (did a jr. high student use our order for the famous egg drop experiment?), bought one single carrot instead of the bunch that was ordered and paid for (messing up a planned recipe) and, even though Jewel has a four hour delivery window the order was still late by an extra half hour. If you are desperate this is the way to go, but don't get your hopes too high until they show you the food. Did I mention the interminable wait times on the phone when you try to address overpayment issues? read more

Today, I actually saw the cashier scold and old man,. He gave me l look, like "this place sucks." Right now, I occasionally stop in for loss leaders, like by 2 bags of of potato chips, get three free. Unless the bag is holding bread or chips it will break before you get to the car. Asking for double bagging (as everyone else does, does not help.) As best I can tell, from your stock selection and terrible service, Albertson's want to break the unions and Jewel, and rebrand it something else. While Foods and Target Bags never break. I avoid shopping here unless I have an extra 20 minutes to kill waiting in line at the register. No matter what time of day, there are lines, lines, lines. And always registers that are unstaffed. Every now and again, I will give them another chance like Charlie Brown taking another shot at kicking the football with Lucy. Surely I must be remembering wrong. Surely the lines won't be as bad as I remember. Nope. Just got burned again. You'd think it was the night before Thanksgiving with the way the lines extended all the way into and across the grocery aisles. Total logjam at the registers. And more than half of the registers closed. The staff is nice, but I'm not there to make friends, so that's not all that helpful. What would be more helpful is if they had enough registers open. Recently, they sent mailers out to announce they now deliver. After years of giving them "one more chance," my instant thought was, "When they bring the groceries to the door, do you have to stand there for 20 minutes before you can pay for them?" My husband laughed-- he got the joke right away. It'd be funny except I'd really like a more efficient option for local grocery shopping. read more

I live in the city and drive all the way here just to do my grocery shopping. They have the best selection of produce and it's laid out so nicely. Everything down each aisle is organized, in stock, and clean. Of course not everything is in stock at the end of a busy day yet most things are. The workers here are the best. They are friendly and very helpful. Plus they always have at least one regular register open at all times. Other locations only have self check out open late at night yet I don't like using self check out so I am glad this location cares enough about their customers to keep at least one regular check out open. I would like to thank Diana, the store manager, for the excellent and personal customer service. I recently found out they carry a product I consume daily, it's a pro biotic named Yakult, Jewel -Wilmette is the only store around that carries it, so I go there to get it. For some reason it's not on the refrigerated shelves, so I have to ask the dairy department to look for it in the back and they bring it out, but many times they just don't have it. I brought up the issue to Diana, and she made sure to call me, to let me know when the product would arrive in store, so I could pick it up. Great customer service!! This was once a great place to grocery shop. Alas, no longer. Up until early this fall, the store was well laid out in a logical fashion, pretty much the same way most grocery stores are laid out which is to say - the same way most of us fill a shopping list. They did a major rearrangement of products and aisles which has no apparent rhyme or reason. it's not even a matter of learning the newly laid-out aisles; the shopping experience makes one go back and forth to different aisles to fill a list. The looks on the faces of customers is one of frustration and puzzlement as they try to do their shopping. Now add higher "everyday" prices and a checkout staff who are often rude as they gab back and forth with one another, paying little attention to what they are ringing up, missing items that don't scan right and you have a miserable shopping experience. I'll be shopping at the Skokie store or better yet, Food-For-Less from now on. read more

If you want COVID-19, you've come to the right place. I'm writing this update because the disregard for the safety of customers in this store is shameless. I just left this store on a Friday evening. It was not crowded but they had 3 registers open (not counting the 15 item or less checkouts). Two of the three cashiers had their masks pulled below their noses. I also ran into four customers without masks. One was older and may have breathing problems, but the other three were young, healthy looking and had masks pulled down below their faces as they shopped. One of the three was stuffing her face with a bag of some kind of snacks. All of this wass happening in plain view with employees everywhere. Worse, employees appeared to make no effort to distance from customers even when there was plenty of room. I have 6 family members who contracted COVID-19. I take this very seriously. A sibling who works in a Whole Foods got it. A cousin got it and had to stop her cancer treatments until she recovered. An aunt got it and was on a ventilator for 3 weeks, and 2 other cousins, essential workers, also got it. I work in health care and went out of my way beginning in early March to protect my staff and my patients. I've been diligent about distancing, hand washing and proper mask use for nearly two months. It's extremely frustrating to encounter a business that is so lax about protecting customers, most of whom are presumably trying very hard to protect others and themselves. The manager of this Jewel needs to resign or start taking customer and employee safety much more seriously. There's just no excuse for this level of carelessness. read more

There is a lot of variation in chain grocery stores like Jewel and Jewel-Osco. This particular one is on the smaller size: between the nearby locations on Skokie Blvd (large) and the location on Sheridan (small). It is a bit newer than the other two area stores. What stands out for me the most about this location is that their produce, both in quality and selection, is far superior to the 24hr location on Skokie Blvd. Overall, everything seems to be a bit better in my opinion. The store seems cleaner and the products being sold just seem to be in better condition. I assume the manager of this location simply runs a tighter ship than some others. As a Jewel-Osco, I would give this store four stars. Although it is one of the better Jewel locations, I have given it three stars because it still does not measure up to other non-Jewel grocery stores. read more

I figured out after 30 mins or so and went back, the security led me to the lost and found and my bag was found there. My cards, cash and everything else remained in the same place. Went here to buy pumpkins for a Halloween gathering, because I figured this would be the cheapest place. It was pretty depressing not to go to a pumpkin patch for the first time ever, but they had what I needed. I then went into the store to look for a pumpkin carving kit, which they did not have. I discovered during my wandering that they have a full bakery, where they had La Brea bread! This is the BEST bread in the COUNTRY! "The Original Bakery" is in LA, but they ship out their dough mix and then it is baked fresh at various locations. I will definitely be coming back to this Jewel (they don't have it at the other the two locations nearest me) for some bread, but not a whole lot else. read more

I think this is one of the better/best Jewel's that I have seen. It is huge, and there is plenty of space to find parking, thankfully. The one thing about it that I find funky is there's always some dude standing in front of the place, selling something. I never bothered to ask what, but maybe it's just newspapers? He's really polite and holds doors for people, but it's a very odd location. Inside, it's clean and well kept. As I am not a food inspector, I can say it looks fine to me. Also, the people that come here when it's crowded, are nuts. I swear women put on afterburners or something when they shop here on a Tuesday. I've never seen anyone other than my mom walk as fast as like 99% of all the women there! It was very....objective driven shopping. One thing about this location: they do mark up frozen foods a bit above other locations,. There are things I can find cheaper at trader joes than here (as far as tofu, etc). read more

I do like this store, but some of the employees do not follow the Covid protocol. There is always one dark haired male employee (20s) that watches over the self- checkout out area that always has his mask below his nose. I once saw a lady comment to him about it and he responded with attitude saying "well you just got here so...". I am in the store 2-3 times a week and always see this problem with this employee over and over. The rest of the employees seem amazing!! The website says that they disinfect the machines every time they are used, but on every occasion I have been in the store since covid, no one has ever wiped down the self-check out machines before or after I use them. I think is is very important to be taking these precautions to help stop the spread of the virus. "Employees disinfect after each use" should not be posted on the website if they are not going to do it. Also, I realize restocking is done at night, but to come in at 8pm I find it difficult to shop when there are 25 employees restocking every 12 feet. Maybe restock 10pm-12am and 5am til 7am would lessen the disruption for shoppers. The employee at the self check out needs to step it up, he is not professional or careful. One employee can change business for the entire store. Keep your mask on and stop pulling it up and down every 2 minuets. read more

My review is for the bakery specifically. My family has had issues ordering custom cakes there now twice. The first time was this past fall (10/18), when my mom ordered a cake for my sister's birthday, she went to pick it up, and was told that it was gone and someone else had picked it up. The whole thing seemed strange as what are the odds of there being another person with the same name who wanted that exact cake, and wouldn't notice if they had gotten the wrong one. There wasn't enough time to make a new cake as the celebration was in just a few hours. The whole incident was just strange. I recently tried to order a cake from another Jewel for my daughter's birthday, but they didn't have the princess decorations that she wanted, so I ordered from here. When I picked up the cake, the decorations were ok, it definitely wasn't the nicest cake I've ever gotten, but everything looked fine. Fast forward to a couple hours later when we cut the cake at her party, and it was the wrong thing inside. She was bummed to not get the cake she had been asking for, and we had paid extra for the strawberry filling and didn't get it. I did call the store and talk to the bakery manager Ed, who refunded us the cake which I appreciated greatly, but it would be nice to just get the cake orders right in the first place. read more

It's a grocery store that serves it's purpose by having groceries in it. And because of that, it serves it's purpose as a fine grocery store. But as for parking, even though it has a lot, it get's congested and quite hard to maneuver out of it. Especially during busier hours. And another issue I have with this place is the lack of self-checkout lanes. I always find those lanes useful especially when I have a few items. But other than that, it's a clean, slightly smaller grocery chain. Just avoid it during peak hours. read more

Jewel-Osco is a well-known and longstanding chain in the Chicagoland area that has proved to have more staying power than the other mainstream mid-market chains that have been squeezed out by discount, premium, and organic grocers. I am a lifelong diehard Whole Foods Market shopper from Evanston, but sometimes I need to find some items that Whole Foods declines to carry. I have frequented this Jewel-Osco on a few occasions, along with the locations in Southeast Evanston and Plaza del Lago. This location is probably the best among those. It is relatively clean and well organized. It has a decent selection. Unfortunately, they did not stock Wasa crackers, which was what I was looking for. I did end up finding some other grocery items. Check out was a breeze, and kudos to Albertsons for making an effort to employ special needs people. read more

Routinely shop here at all different times of day. Staff always willing to go the extra mile. Whether it's checking for produce that's in process of being stocked, making fresh juice upon request, deli counter slicing things perfectly, etc. Great organic grocery aisle. My overall experience is positive which keeps me as a returning customer. Floral staff always terrific; management efficient, helpful and friendly. Really good cheese department (although not perfect as you can't taste things), and very nice staff. Smaller location with a main parking lot that can be tricky (but there is plenty of parking using 2 other lots), but well stocked, particularly for the local neighborhood. The pharmacy staff is very knowledgeable, and able to handle just about anything. I've moved all of my pharmacy needs here from another Osco because the staff is so much better (my insurance won't let me use CVS, Walgreens, Target or WalMart so I have to use the grocery stores). read more

I have been shopping at the Jewel at Green Bay Rd. and Grand Av. in Waukegan for about 15 years and I have never seen this level of rudeness at this store. Most of the young cashiers say nothing, even when greeted and will not even bother to look you in the eye. Jewel should teach their employees that all people require and deserve respect, including classes of people they don't like! And by the way... when someone says thank-you, "no problem" is not an appropriate response..I believe that would be "you're welcome". I will start shopping at Walmart again if Jewel doesn't start training their employees better, but I'm not holding my breath! I would give zero stars if I could. read more

This JEWEL is a TERRIBLE place. It is FULL of PRICE-GOUGING swindles. Obviously, with no competition in the area, they feel they can raise prices ($1.39 for ONE LEMON?). They make you wait a LONG time to check out. Their layout is extremely inconvenient. Their parking is horrible. Their Deli-service is EXPENSIVE! I will NEVER go back and I live in Wilmette. We lost our Evanston Dominick's and this happened. Don't go to ANY Jewel, if this is how they do business. read more
