My fiancée took her engagement ring in to have a companion wedding band made for it. She said she wanted to look at the wax mold before the ring was made. The mold was promised to be ready three weeks later. That date came and went with no communication from Jewelry Affair. My fiancée called a week later and the owner explained they were running behind because of snow, which was a lame response (I own a business two blocks away and still managed to take care of our customers during the snow days). He also said his wife had been sick, which would have been easier to be understanding of if someone had at least called us. He said he would have the mold done soon and get back to us. Another week passed with no contact from Jewelry Affair. Three more days passed and the owner's wife left a voice message explaining again that they were delayed owing to snow and her not feeling well. She said the mold would be done in another week. That week passed with no word from Jewelry Affair. I called at this point and spoke to Beth, the owners wife. I said my "patience is exhausted." She said she would look into it and get back to me, again leaning in on the excuses of snow and health delays, this time adding that it's just the two of them (as though their staffing problems should be my problem.) Four days passed with no contact from Jewelry Affair. That Friday my fiancée and I walked into the store and expressed our frustration. Beth explained that she wasn't able to call me back because my name is not in the invoice. She did not explain what kept her from calling my fiancée instead. We were offered no apologies or accommodations. The owner, Rodney, appeared at the top of the stairs to further argue our position and explain away their horrible customer service but could not be bothered to come down and speak with us. I was very angry at this point, and though I did not use profanity and merely suggested they try communicating with their customers, he said I was "being nasty about this." I demanded they return the engagement ring (a $20,000 piece of jewelry). He said he needed it to finish the wedding band, which he had already poured, skipping the agreed step of allowing my fiancée to first look at the wax mold. Rodney said the ring would be done by noon the next day. We came back the next day and the ring was ready. Beth was quite pleasant. The ring was beautiful. It was a better ending to a frustrating experience that should have been joyful given the circumstances. It's too bad, really. The guy is a decent jeweler but, in my opinion, a crummy business man with an attitude problem. We won't be back. read more

They had my ring completed in 4 days which was MUCH FASTER than most places! The stone of my engagement ring fell out of its setting the day I got it back from Jewelry Affair! I brought my sterling silver ring into them to be resized last week and at first was happy with how it fit after the resizing despite it taking almost an entire week. I was super bummed though when the stone fell out of its setting later that day. I went into Jewelry Affair to discuss this with who was working there and asked for it to be reset, and they insisted that it was no fault of theirs and that I must have damaged the prongs holding my stone in place. This is my engagement ring.. I never take it off and bartend with it on almost every night of the week. I have never once had any issue with the stone being loose or coming out of its setting. Though Jewelry Affair claims they did not alter the prongs on my ring, I do believe that they compromised the integrity of the prongs while resizing it. The cost to reset the ring and repair the damage that they caused was going to be $8, and they refused to waive that small fee and make it right for a customer who was unsatisfied with the work they had done. Mistakes happen but refusing to acknowledge a customers concerns and make sure they walk away from an interaction satisfied is unacceptable. read more

Not a good experience! Stopped in to see if there was someone who could give me a little info on my ring. I was curious to know if it was art deco from the 20's or if it was newer made to look old-but I hadn't even gotten that part out before the lady started to say that it would cost at least $28 for any verbal information given!! The woman working behind the counter responded rather quickly that they, "only size when someone buys something". We were the only people in the store on a snowy day. Went here to get my gold chain fixed and was pleasantly surprised. The owners were great and I was greeted as I stepped through the door. I thought that the pricing was fair as well as the return time which can be a problem if you go to chain jewlers (like Kay). Have only had one experience with them but not impressed. My wife recently had an heirloom ring handed down to her. The ring was given to her damaged with one diamond separate from the ring. We took it to the Jewelry Affair and asked them to repair the ring, reset the diamond, and resize(enlarge) the ring. We were advised that all prongs had to be rebuilt as well. We were fine with that. A week passed and my wife was ecstatic to pick up the ring. Sadly upon picking it up I immediately noticed 1 of 7 diamonds that did not glisten like the others. Looking at it closer I could see that stone was set differently than the others. Upon inquiring what the issue was we were advised one stone was fractured and due to the fact it is an old ring with the diamonds having a "miners" cut there was nothing he could do. I BEG YOUR PARDON! WHY were we not phoned and advised of this prior to the work being done! I have since taken it to other jewelers for an opinion and needless to say their opinions differ. But regardless of opinions, one fact which cannot be denied is the poor communication. We should have been advised of the issue with the stone prior to the work performed and we weren't. Now we have what is a beautiful heirloom ring that has been repaired in a compromised state. We will not be returning here. read more

I wanted a custom design ring made, and they said they would be able to do that. We sketched out the ring design on paper, and when I asked if would be able to look at the wax-up before they casted the ring, the owner told me, "We are too busy for people to look at the wax-up for approval. As soon as we make the wax-up, we cast it." I was utterly shocked. They are expecting me to pay a few thousand dollars for a piece of jewelry, but they would not allow the customer to approve of their wax-up?! How ridiculous is that? Instead I took my business to a different jeweler about a block away, he ended charging me 50% less than Jewelry Affair quoted me, and when I told him of my experience at Jewelry Affair, he informed me that he "never casts a wax-up without the customers approval, and to not be able to approve the wax-up is just bad business ." read more

With all the wonderful reviews on here, I thought my now fiancé and I would come and have our diamond set into my engagement ring. Neither of the people introduced themselves to us, but the lady offered to take the diamond and semi-mount up to the man working upstairs to look at them and give us an estimate. My fiancé and I stood in there for a while as the two talked upstairs, which is fine, I don't mind waiting. What wasn't okay is that after a bit of waiting, the lady comes back downstairs with our diamond and the semi-mount, and no estimate of the setting price. The man upstairs is now talking to us without coming downstairs, not even poking his head off the balcony so that we could see him. He kept telling us that our diamond is not a diamond we should want and that this and that is not ideal in a diamond. I appreciate the concern that he wanted us to have a good diamond, but my diamond is perfect in my eyes. We felt embarrassed and quite insulted, that a man who couldn't even walk down the stairs, literally talked down at us about how bad our diamond was. I took my business elsewhere, so I still got the ring of my dreams. Just a tip: when people come in asking you for one service, don't give them another. When I came in for an estimate on the price for setting the diamond into the semi-mount, I wasn't looking for opinions on my diamond. read more

I took my yellow gold diamond ring in to be redesigned. Since it had 7 diamonds to be placed and the original design of the ring to be enhanced, I left it up to Rod to work his magic, and he sure did! The finished product was absolutely fantastic! Rod retained the design of the original goldsmith who made the ring over 20 years ago from pounded gold -- the European mastery -- and added his own unique touch. While I'm sure he may have wanted to "start over" and design something different, I was impressed at his flexibility in setting aside his own creativity and honor the original work. I highly recommend Jewelry Affair. I would have given them 5 stars, but it took a bit longer for the ring to get finished than was originally estimated. But, in the end it was well worth the wait. read more

The Jewelry Affair ripped me off! I took the solitaire wedding ring (I wore when my late husband was alive) in to have it redone. I thought adding accent diamonds and emeralds would be nice, and I made it very clear that I did NOT want the bar channels - or walls of metal - between the stones (which seem to be Rodney's signature style). Rodney drew me a sketch that I agreed to, but then built a hideous ring around my precious diamond and charged me for it. They refused to tell me what the additional stones cost and he refused to make my ring the way I wanted...the way he said he would make it with the design I paid for. He called me two days after our last encounter - after I took it to a capable jeweler in town - and said he wanted "to make everybody happy." I responded with an email asking for monetary assistance to have it redone elsewhere since he refused - and confirmed he could not do it. No answer. I guess he doesn't care about customer satisfaction. I filed a complaint with the BBB and after multiple attempts to reach Rodney with no response, I am now in touch with the attorney general. If you like big, bulky, gawdy jewelery, this is the place to go. If you want to get what you paid for and be treated with respect...as a paying customer...be warned and shop around!! - Following up to The Jewelry Affair's response to my review: If you recall, when I came to pick up the ring I was shocked because it did not resemble the sketch and I did not want to insult you. I signed the receipt so I could take my diamond out of the store. I came back a couple hours later to express my concerns with the design. I picked up my pendant at that time and was happy because it looked like the sketch I agreed to, unlike the ring. Rodney told me why he had to make the ring the way he did, which did not make sense to me. You were closed for the next two days, so I came back when you opened, after seeking a second opinion. I said I could not get used to the design and wanted to give you the chance to make it right. Rodney said he could not and would not remake the ring because he would lose money. I said I had to process that information, which I did, and took my business elsewhere. Rodney called two days after that and I responded with an email. The email was not threatening - it was factual, and I asked for resolve which I thought was more than fair. You chose to ignore the email.
