We've been here a few times and tried a variety of dishes. We really like the clay pots. Both the beef and pork short ribs were good, but the pork short ribs with Chinese sausage is my favorite. The sauce has a lot of flavor, and their chili oil goes really well with it. The prawns with walnuts were priced well, and the cucumber salad came in a big portion. The calamari wasn't my thing since it was fresh squid instead of the fried version I'm used to, but that's probably on me for not checking. Service has been great every time. The clay pots take about 20 minutes since they're made to order, so it's not super fast, but it's worth the wait. The restaurant is clean, and they let us know that the tea costs extra, which we appreciated. I think the tea helps balance out the saltier dishes. I visited Ji Bei Chuan with a friend, and we had their Cold Cut Chicken, Black Fungus with Vinegar, and Gold Spicy Soup with Fish Slices Rice Noodles. I was on the fence about giving Jibei a 3 or 4 but ultimately went with a 4 because i still like the restaurant but the noodle soup broth quality has declined drastically and that was a big draw for me since the restaurant opened. One of the reasons I loved the restaurant is because the broths in all the noodle soups I've tried tasted clean and had a homemade taste to it. I went there 2 days ago after coming here pretty regularly the last few months and found there to be a huge difference in past visits. The broth now tastes FULL of MSG! Not enjoyable at all. My husband got the fish maw noodle soup with chicken and I got the gold spicy soup with fish. His tasted slightly less salty and artificial but not by much. Very disappointing. The food is very reasonably priced, the service was great and the sides are still all really good. It's just a bummer that I wont be getting soups here which were my favorite. read more

Ji Bei Chuan took the place of a really good xiaolongbao restaurant which closed in 2025. We visited JBC on a recent Monday to check it out. From the menu it became evident they specializes in noodles, especially soup noodles. On Mondays they have a really good value deal. $19.99 for any soup noodles(except roast duck), plus two side dishes and a drink (fruit tea or boba tea). For our group of 5, we tried 3 lunch specials, a Chinese sausage with yellow eel clay pot rice, and a tonkutsu ramen. While waiting for our food, we looked around and saw that the new owners upgraded the interiors quite a bit. There are art on the wall, architectural light fixtures, and faux plants, all of which made the place cozy. When our lunch specials came, we were pleasantly surprised. The green cucumber and wood ear appetizers were seasoned well and had great flavors. The crispy pork was crispy and excellent with the accompanying chili powder. The soup noodles were even more impressive. We thought the portion would be smaller for lunch specials, but it was a large bowl, and looked to us to be the same size as regular orders. We enjoyed the soup noodles on the cold day that we went. None of us were able to finish the soup noodles though just because the portion was copious. The boba tea and fruit tea were also of decent size and very refreshing after some of the spicy noodle soups. As for the Chinese sausage with yellow eel clay pot rice. It was fine but nothing special, and the tonkutsu ramen is respectable, but doesn't come close to the specialty ramen houses like Mensho, Ippudo, etc. The lunch specials here are really great value, and we plan to return to check out more of the menu. read more

I tried the Chicken, mushroom, sausage clay pot and what a mistake. The portion was small and the chicken was all bone. I don't mean chicken peieces on the bone, I mean chicken bone with NO meat. There was a lot of neck bone which doesn't have any meat anyway. The worst part was there were small pieces of bone mixed in with the rice so when you thought you could safely chew down on fork full of rice you had to pick through it to make sure you didn't break a touch or choke on it. Tried out Ji Bei Chuan after a buddy told me they had really good ramen. Kicked things off with the fried pork appetizer - it comes out looking kinda like calamari so I wasn't sure what I was getting into. But wowww, that 5 spice dipping powder it comes out with. Spicy, umami, super flavorful and gave me popcorn chicken vibes like from those Taiwanese boba spots. So good. Went with the tonkatsu ramen for the main. Broth was on the lighter side and not super creamy like some places, which I actually liked since it didn't leave me feeling heavy. Charsu was tasty but a touch overcooked. Still, whole bowl was really filling and hit the spot. Heads up, they can't make it spicy by default but they have chili oil on the table so you can DIY the heat. Service was great. Staff was really kind and checked in on us a bunch. There was a tiny bit of a language barrier but nothing that got in the way. Parking is street metered btw. Been here twice. Both times ordered their clay pot rice combo. First time ordered Chinese sausage with pork ribs. A bit of a disappointment because the rice on the bottom was not crunch enough but instead, it was quite oily. Soup was a blast, it was Tea Tree Mushroom and Native chicken, very flavorful and rich in taste. Drink wasn't my cup of tea unfortunately. Second time ordered Chinese sausage clay pot rice, which was a lot better from before. There was still some crunch from the bottom of the pot and I considered good this time. Both time arrived with not much diners and had fast service. Tables to tables are really tight, not the best but is acceptable. This is officially my go to place in San Leandro. I got the spicy beef mala noodles and man, they were actually very spicy! The portions were huge for the price as well and I'm so glad I tried this place. The noodles were nice and al dente, chewy yet not undercooked, the beef was super tender as well and very well coated with the mala broth spice and flavor. Normally, broth with mala spice in it is just that, spicy broth, but this one however actually had a lot of flavor in itself. In terms of the food.... It was cool. My noodle soup (fish maw) didn't felt as hot as I wanted it but it was ok. The chicken and briskets were tender, the soup was just a bit bland. Additionally, I spotted 1 morel mushroom (off the get-go) and like a piece of fish maw towards the end of my meal. My bf's tom yum noodle soup also seems alright. We ended up accompanying our meal with some chili oil that was already at our table since it helped boost some flavor. Now onto the aftermath. I've been wanting to try Ji Bei Chuan for a while since they offer ramen and other noodle soups. With the cold, rainy weather today, my partner and I decided it was the perfect time to stop by. We ordered the fried pork appetizer because so many Yelp reviews mentioned it and they were absolutely right. These were so good. They reminded me of Taiwanese popcorn chicken but with a lighter, crispier batter. Super addicting and for $7.99 the portion size is a steal. For my main, I ordered the tonkotsu ramen. It comes with three pieces of pork chashu, half an egg, fish cake, black fungus, bamboo shoots, corn, seaweed, and seaweed salad. I asked for no fish cake or black fungus. Honestly, I could have also done without the bamboo and seaweed salad. Seaweed salad just does not belong in ramen for me. The bamboo was also pretty tough instead of soft. The chashu was sliced quite thick, which made it taste a bit dry and chewy. Thinner slices would have made a big difference. Overall, the ramen was just okay. Not bad, but not something I would reorder. Next time I would probably try one of their other dishes like the tom yum noodle soup or a claypot. Service was great, friendly and attentive. A thousand times yes. O my word. I've had delicious ramen. But this took the cake. I was intoxicated after the 1st slurp. I got the tonkotsu ramen (spicy) & fried chicken wings. I haven't had the pleasure of having home cooked authentic ramen. So I don't know what a native would consider great. But to my personal taste, I don't think this place can be beat! At this point, I think I've found my favorite ramen spot. Im 100% content. This place is THAT good. The chicken wings were just as good. There is a longer turn around time for those. Good service brought good food and made for a good meal. We were after simple flavors for lunch. We were a bit concerned because other reviewers said that the staff didn't really speak English. I can speak some Cantonese, but Mandarin speakers will not understand me. Fortunately, the server we got spoke good English and we had no issues communicating. We ordered: Chicken Wings - 5 - Crisp, hot, juicy, tender, delicious! Deep Fried Fish - 5 - A different crust from the Chicken Wings but just as crisp, hot, juicy, tender and delicious! Roast Duck Rice Noodle Soup - 5 - Essentially a nice bowl of noodle soup with Roast Duck. Can't go wrong with that. Chinese Sausage and Pork Sparerib Clay Pot Rice - 5 - Many restaurants offer Clay Pots but very few offer Clay Pot Rice. The difference is that the rice is cooked under the ingredients that you order. This way, the juices from all of the ingredients flavor the rice. Additionally, when done correctly, you also get the crunchy bits of rice similar to what the Spanish call Socarrat at the bottom of the Paella Pan. The flavors were very good, however the special soy sauce on the table was not as good as some that we've had served at other restaurants. That soy sauce is usually delivered to the table at the same time as the Clay Pot and is usually warm. All in all, this was a very good experience, and we will definitely be back to try additional dishes and flavors. read more

This restaurant took over an older Chinese restaurant and it brings a completely different modern vibe even though both were Chinese food restaurants. Parking is the same you either have to park in the street or nearby plaza and walk over. We got the fish maw chicken soup rice noodles and beef brisket dried noodles and both were delicious. The fish maw noodles is one of its kind around this area in the nearby cities and has a unique taste. The soup is flavorful with the fish maw as a base. You can definitely tell they didn't cheap out on the fish maw but it's not too overwhelming either. It can be a new experience for some people because you honestly don't see that much fish maw dishes in the area. The dried noodles dish tastes typical of those dried noodle at other restaurant but still really good. The spice is of those mala flavor which some people like and some people might find it too overwhelming. Staff is very friendly and the service is quick. I was so sad to see our Xiao Long Bao spot had disappeared, but its replacement seems like a good one! We had the chicken noodle with beef soup special, and the Tonkatsu Ramen soup, and both came quite quickly and well presented. the Ramen was well priced and the huge bowl of soup was very tasty; I normally prefer more noodles, but still the two slices of pork were fine. The chicken maw soup was also very tasty, not exactly what I expected (I had it with beef slices), but just fine. The special included a starter (fried pork) was the star tonight! This location replaced a previous restaurant that we enjoyed and this new place certainly didn't hold back on the food quality and taste. The service is quite speedy and attentive. They took our orders and let us know of their special. They were offering 9 beef skewers for $14 which we had to take along with fried chicken, beef clay pot, tripe and noodles, chicken fried rice and beef noodle soup. Each dish came out with quite a bit of food. It's rare to see food with such great taste paired with a nice volume of food. The fried chicken was made from flattened pieces of chicken which is AMAZING. You only really eat fried chicken like that at taiwan street food stalls. The rice was just cooked perfectly where you can taste each distinct grain and the bottom also had a nice, crispy layer. It was slightly oily but that's to be expected with claypot rice dishes, and it paired really well with the tabletop soy sauce. Lastly, the fried chicken wings were crispy and had a good texture, but they weren't very flavorful if you just had them own their own. Pairing it with the mayo-based sauce that came with them was a nice touch and helped balance things out. But not too hard to find. The store was bigger inside than it looks and the decor looks like a mix between Classical Chinese, noodle house, and a bit of modernization mixed in. The food, very good. Known for Fish Maw soup, the broth was excellent. We also ordered the pork rib and Chinese sausage clay pot rice and it was also delicious. Solid soft opening experience. Seated immediately around 6:00 pm on a Tuesday evening. The menu has a variety of noodle dishes, a large selection of soups, including their signature fish maw and chicken soup, clay pot, fried rice, hot and cold appetizers, and milk tea. The interior has been entirely transformed from the previous two restaurants that have been in this space, and is very warm, modern, and bright. The waitresses were all very nice and eager to provide recommendations. They recommended that my husband try the fish maw and chicken soup, which he ended up getting. I went with the beef stir fried udon, the peach oolong tea with 50% sugar, and we shared the scallion pancake appetizer. The menus are a little blurry, and the Chinese characters are hard to read. This was an issue for our waitress, who was having difficulty reading them to input our order into her tablet. She disappeared behind the counter, distracted, in the middle of taking our order and we thought she just went to try to get help. But then she never came back. My husband had to go and let her know we weren't finished ordering. Kind of odd. The scallion pancake came out pretty quickly and was so delicious. It was a little more pliable and less crispy than some I've had at other places, so it was easier to fold and eat in a couple of bites. While it was great, there were only four small slices. Our entrees came out almost immediately after we finished the appetizer. I absolutely loved my dish. It was rich in flavor, had a good amount of tender beef, and the udon noodles were perfectly chewy. My husband liked his soup and thought the chicken maw was interesting and unique, but felt that it was ultimately not a very exciting dish or flavor profile. It was more of a comfort dish with a subtle, soft chicken broth, mushrooms, fried tofu skin, cabbage, noodles, and chicken. My peach oolong tea was just the right amount of sweet, with chunks of peach jelly at the bottom of the cup. The only thing I didn't like were the pieces of lime, which I fished out, but once those were out it was a refreshing, peachy tea. Our total was $46 and some change with the 10% discount for the soft opening. I'd get both of my dishes again but there's so much more on the menu I want to go back and try. Crispy, crunchy rice that has a char to it is definitely up my alley. The Chinese sausage & Pork Ribs add that juicy flavorful depth to it that reminds me of classic Chinese comfort food for the soul. I really enjoyed all the dishes that were ordered & had a nice conversation w/the waiter. Additional drink: Milk Tea bobo, this drink didn't stand up to my expectations bc it was pretty watered down, which I thought was a basic drink, so I wouldn't get again. Location is in downtown San Leandro. It's street parking, and though we parked right in front of the restaurant, we decided to takeout b/c there was broken glass everywhere. Restaurant inside is spacious and nicely remodeled, and ordering was fine. Our order took longer than expected but we appreciate the waiter coming out to hand us our food in a cute quality reusable bag. Even though we enjoyed overall flavor of the claypot rice dishes, and rice was crispy, here are some issues. We ordered the spareribs claypot rice and the mushroom chicken claypot rice and expected the spareribs to have bones, but the chicken claypot rice was 75% chicken bones w/ small sharp shards, which made the dish hard to enjoy. The chicken was not tender, and the dish was also not evenly seasoned, so I would I get a mouthful of white pepper biting into a piece of mushroom and then alcohol after taste in another bite of chicken. I also found a piece of metal in my rice. There is an option to order wood-ear mushrooms non spicy. Pieces were thick but ok on flavor. Portions overall were generous. It's our first visit here, and while service is good, food quality (at least for what we ordered) needs improvement. read more

Tried Ji Bei Chuan for the first time and got the clay pot rice with ribs and Chinese sausage -- so good. It took about 20 minutes since they make it fresh, but totally worth it. The flavor was super rich, the portion was big, and the ribs were nice and tender. The Chinese sausage added a great sweetness, and the crispy rice at the bottom was the best part. Definitely one of the best clay pot rice dishes I've had in a while, I'll be back for sure to try others. read more

Lovely neighborhood gem we are adding to the list! Their specialty is rice noodles (in soup) and I enjoyed the one I ordered with roast duck -- quite a big serving! I ended up packing up 1/2 to take home. We got a bunch of skewers and the pricing is pretty great. The squid skewers were nice -- grilled & sweet carmelization. The beef ones were not exciting in any way, so I'd skip those. We also got the claypot with pork ribs (Chinese/Cantonese staple) and they give you the sauce bottle to add as much as you'd like. We went to town with the sauce. This came with a double-boiled soup as part of a dinner/weekend special. We picked the ginseng-and-black-chicken (another old-timey one) and it was really nice. The ginseng was legit & you can both smell and taste it. Hubs got beef shank ramen - which had a bit of a *curry* vibe to it? Can't recall but maybe a regional take on the ramen/soup flavor. The beef shank slices were amazing. Very tender and flavorful, with nice marbling. Note the air conditioning was COLD so don't just show up in shots and a tee. I was cold the whole time. read more

After binge watching cdramas, I had a sudden craving for rice noodle soup. I had bookmarked this place for a while and was too lazy to cook so I sent hubby here to pick up some food. We ordered Chinese sausage with yellow eel claypot rice, crispy fried pork, and the fish maw chicken rice noodle soup. Unfortunately, by the time hubby came home from picking up the food, the crispy pork was no longer crispy but it was at least still moist and flavorful. Originally, we didn't know why we received a small container of soy sauce with our food but after eating the claypot rice as is, it lacked flavor. So eventually, we poured the soy sauce over the rice and it actually upgraded the aroma of the dish. However, I wished there were more eel since there was only a few pieces. As for the noodle soup, the chicken was juicy and the variety of vegetables soaked up the soup pretty nicely. However, the soup itself could benefit more with a little more depthness. read more

At one point we needed something and I literally looked up and it was like our server had read my mind, he hurried right over. Not sure if the soup was bad with the maw chicken noodle soup but as soon as I finish , I had the runs. Very sad to see this happen as the previous times I have been here the same dish was excellent read more

This spot here is amazing. I love their fried wings korean style. Delish and the service here is fast. I went when they open and it was a nice relaxing place to be in. Dine in and get your ramen and other dish. I got the ramen with beef ramen noodle. It was okay. The taste is decent. I still highly recommend this place. read more

omg im so happy this place is nearby! so glad they were open late on christmas. we ordered to-go since they said they were stopping dine-in orders by 8pm. inside is super cute. while we waited they gave us a free fruit tea! not sure what flavor it was, either strawberry or raspberry, but it was really good and sweet of them. my bf got the claypot rice and i got the golden spicy soup w/ beef slices. the broth was so good and the perfect spice, im not sure if you can adjust spice levels but it was the right amount for me. it came w/ tofu puffs, enoki, bean curd, woodear mushroom, and corn. they pack the soups to-go really well to keep the meat & noodles apart from the soup. the woodear mushroom salad was soooo good. i really hope this place does well! will definitely be coming back read more
