The massage was so unpleasant and frankly quite painful. The lotion would run dry and he would continue to rug burn my legs. He used a rotation of three moves- which included digging his knuckles so deep into the arch of my foot over and over and over again. Like a mortar and pestle. I watched the clock to countdown until it would end- couldn't bring myself to call it off in the middle bc there was not much privacy and I didn't want to cause a scene. The grand finale, though, was a scene itself. He grabbed both of my ankles and lifted them up in the air, probably to the height of his shoulders while standing, and swung them in a large circle before slamming them down on the table, "all done!" .. what just happened? What did I just pay for? And how did I just get forced into tipping?!? Will not go back and would not recommend. Going to take some Tylenol and ice my feet. read more

I guess massage is a personal thing. I read these one star reviews and wonder if these people live on the same planet as me. I go to Jia once a week because the masseuses work the crap out my muscles in a good way. Yes, they sometimes answer calls on the job. And yes, there's a language barrier. But Jesus--what do you want from a budget place?! If you want a zen retreat with free herbal tea and fluffy robes then go blow your wad at a fancy spa in the city. The masseuses will gladly go harder or ease up if you just say something. They'll also check in to ask "pressure ok?" If they sense something isn't right. That's about as much English as I need them to speak to get my money's worth. Another tip? If you have major issue, open your phone and use the Google language translator from English to Mandarin. I've used it in the past to convey specific neck pain and explain when I was pregnant. They were grateful for the info and treated me accordingly. Finally, don't go in and be a creep. I don't know if they do funny business on the side or not, and to be honest, I really don't care. But there's nothing worse than getting knots worked out while listening to moronic male clients try to chat up underpaid women who obviously barely understand them. Let these poor women do their job. A very budget friendly massage place with fantastic technique!! It was scary to come here without pictures and website, but there is one good review from yelp elite lady, so I give it a try. Maybe it's better to call before, but I just walked in. I had Jia special which is 30 minutes foot spa & 30 minutes body. It was only $29!! Price, value, technique, and service were excellent :) my therapist worked very well and knows where my point of tiredness. If you like relaxation massage like swedish massage, this maybe too much. I like hard pressure massage, so it didn't bother me at all. My temporary shoulder pain from rare occasional alcohol take was gone after the treatment!! The place was very clean, but I didn't like the color disco ball and music choice. Most of the time, it was waltz, but sometimes it was like amusement park music. I don't know how to describe it, but I didn't feel too comfortable to fall asleep. lol I don't mind these environment, but I'll give 5 stars if they improve the atmosphere. This place is as good as it gets. It's nice to see that this company is growing and adding locations. I first went to Jia Foot Spa in the other Glenview location with my mom and had a great experience. I'm super excited that one opened up closer to home! Things you need to know: 1) this is a budget massage place. You keep your clothes on and are in a giant room with other people. This does not take away from the experience though. They cover you with blankets and towels and play nice music. 2) You cannot beat the price. The $29 special is the way to go for a 1 hour massage. They also send $3 off coupons in the mail every so often so be on the lookout for those. This visit they gave me a punch card for every 10 massages you get one free. One down only 9 more to go. In my opinion, this is the only Jia location to visit,very quiet, manager always around, very professional and polite, I request Mark for my 60 min massage, Mark is a true professional and knows what he is doing, Jia Special is $40, I get the $ 50 massage which includes foot cupping and hot stones on neck, in a word- OUTSTANDING, I feel completely relaxed after the session and helps with my foot neuropathy for me at least, I now go every weekend and feel energize and the sleep I get after a session is much deeper. read more

My 60 minute massage was great, but the customer service was awful. I walked in and stood at the desk - I had an appointment - and Mary didn't even say hello or make eye contact. Instead, she was fumbling with her phone to make a call. Finally, she looked right at me but yelled something in her language and my massage therapist came to get me. At first, you may get the feeling that it is not that nice when you first walk in but it is actually pretty good. Many people go for the $29 special but I suggest the $45 special which includes whole body plus foot massage. You will keep your clothes on at all times and you are in a room with other customers so it will not be super quite but the massage is great. I have had fancy massages and I will pick this one any day! I have been to Jia a few times before but will never go back after yesterday's massage, if we can even call it that. The entire time, the person (who switched halfway through) kept stopping to answer the phone, talk to other staff, etc. And it was the most painful massage imaginable that left me with actual bruises today. I have a high pain tolerance but this wasn't normal. I asked the man 3-4 times to please be softer and he just said ok but then ignored me. It's hard to describe but it was the equivalent of having someone just karate chop at your body and feet for 60 minutes with no rhyme or rhythm to the torture. I took a friend with me for a relaxing massage today at Jia in Glenview, IL. I heard good things about Jia from a neighbor. We made 2 appointments and told them what we wanted on the phone. When we got there we were told to pick from the large menu and I had to search for what we had decided on. The gentlemen kept trying to upcharge us with add ons or different, more expensive options. We stuck with our original plan after he tried several times to get us to change our minds. You lay on your back and put your feet in a plastic bucket with lukewarm water that sits on a milk crate (which isn't good for the back). The massages were very hard (you may like that - I thought it was a little much). I do have to say I felt fine (so far) after the massage. The two masseuses talked in Chinese with a private conversation to each other throughout our massages with us on the tables. (very unprofessional). The worst part was when we were paying and I gave him a 15% tip. He counted it in front of me and then wasn't happy and pointed to a sign on the counter telling me how I should tip (Average service - $10 and on up). The massage was $40 so that is actually over 20% tip. I gave him the $10 but it was so tacky, rude and unprofessional. I will not go back. read more

This is how the people at Jia foot spa let you know your time's up, and yelling out in pain, I knew I was immediately in trouble. The next morning, I was barely able to walk, having thrown my back out! These people have no business giving massages. They pull, bend and yank on your limbs in ways only a contortionist could tolerate. Yes at $30 for a one hour massage, you can't beat the price as long as you don't mind getting beat up yourself! Very good massage and well worth the price. This place is very clean, which is awesome, and puts it above some of the other massage places in the area. My only negative has to do with the level of noise. Many of these places are one open room, but, they at least have curtains to compartmentalize; this place does not. The employees talk amongst themselves a lot - and don't try to whisper when doing so; there are a lot of distractions. I found the disco ball to be a nice touch - comical - as you don't notice it once your massage starts because your eyes will be closed. read more
