My car is a junk show. But, it's my fault because I abuse the hell out of that sweet old 4x4. I am in the market for a new whip, but with the reality of car payments setting in, I am going to drive my white dragon right into the ground first. Early this AM I took my steely beast to Jiffy Lube in MV for an Oil Change, and those fuckers robbed me blind. Apparently I was low on oil. Oops. Had no antifreeze in my radiator. Oops. Had three lights out. Oops. Some belt with some name was worn out. Oops. Windshield Wipers needed to be replaced. Oops. The list goes on and I have a very hard time saying no in the morning. So they replaced it all. 45 minutes later and $200 dollars poorer, my Jeep and I were ready to go. This whole time I was sitting in the cold waiting room wearing my workout clothes (red t-shirt, black yoga pants) and looking pretty crappy, as I was on my way to the gym -- As I got up to leave, a large fellow in a do-rag began to serenade me with "Red Light Special" by TLC. I hardly ever write reviews, but I felt compelled to write one about these guys. If I could give them zero stars, I would. Every time I go in for a routine oil change, they try to talk me into more services. The last time I went in, they insisted that I get my air filter replaced (quote: $60), and tried to show me how dirty it was. Last time I was there I had paid over $100 in extra services, so I declined. When I said no, the guy helping me rudely asked "are you poor?" which was beyond inappropriate. I ignored this and declined again, to which he snottily replied "well, I guess you don't care about your car." I decided to hold my tongue because I was in a hurry and really needed an oil change, but I was beyond shocked by the barrage of unprofessional comments coming out of this guy's mouth. As it turns out these guys are not only rude and unprofessional, they are total scam artists. My husband offered to change my air filter for me a week later, and when he took out my old air filter, it looked almost brand new! The dirty air filter they showed me was NOT my air filter. Do NOT go to these guys - they are completely dishonest. I am now questioning whether they even performed an oil change on my car. Needless to say, I will not be back. And I'm tempted to report them to the BBB. read more

Jiffy Lube - Be prepared to look at this view for a while. - Oil Change Stations Near Me - Mill Valley, California

They told me that if I didn't buy the most expensive oil, my engine would be ruined... As another reviewer wrote, "really, I was unaware Jiffy Lube's lower price oil would ruin engines...maybe they should advertise that?" My car needs conventional OR synthetic 5W40 or 5W30, SJ grade or better. They told me that the 5W30 conventional oil they had was not approved for my car. It was SL rated though. SL is fine. My manual and pqiamerica.com/apiserviceclass.htm are authoritative on this, and I called VW corporate and they confirmed it too. Over 100k miles and I've never put synthetic in it. Made me sign a waiver before they'd put the conventional oil in my car. I forgot the coffee I made because I had to go through their upsell song and dance -which they took me out to the garage area to do, which is a safety violation -probably because they didn't want to do the upsell in the customer area, where other customers would hear it. They also at least almost overfilled it. It's above the maximum. (It's in the c range of the dipstick, instead of the b range where it should be. If it was above the c range, I'd have catalytic converter damage.) DUMB MOVE: I didn't check the oil level 'till the next day. Hope it didn't get burned off and damage the car already. Do you know how to tell when you are next in line? Because no one is in front of you. How does a business tell which customer is next in line? When there is a place to form a line, then the person who is the first one there is next in line. Apparently this is not clear to Jiffy Lube Mill Valley. I pulled into Jiffy Lube's lot, which was empty, and pulled up to the "wait here" line. After a short wait someone came and asked me to wait in the lobby. Fine. After a longer wait with nothing happening I stood up and looked out and saw that my car had been pulled off to the side and another car was being checked in. I went out to ask why and the manager said that the driver of the car being service said she was there first. I said,"well, there was no one in the lot and no one in line when I pulled in so I am obviously next." And he just repeated that she said she was next. I replied, "what happens if I say that I'm next?" And his answer was, "what am I supposed to do?" Here's a clue, take the person who is first in line next. Ta-da! read more

DON'T GO HERE! If there was a ZERO star, or Negative Stars, I would give them... Crazy staff yells, threatens, and curses at customers while trying to intimidate and scam them! I watched them threaten an old man because he said he didn't agree to have the most expensive oil put in his old car and was being overcharged. They yelled at him that they would drain the new oil out and put the old stuff back in. Unfortunately their service is broken and understand why they are rated poorly. Reviewed all the service that was completed at time of payment and they confirmed what was completed. Got in car and noticed: windows were not cleaned, floors were not vacuumed and now question what else was not done or done incorrectly. Said something to the servicing manager and he showed a lack of concern and pointed out " well at least the drivers side floor was vacuumed". read more

I have taken my car here since I bought it and was always treated respectfully and felt the person servicing my car was fair and informative. I don't usually write bad reviews but... Something has changed here over the past year. I agree the Bob S. they do not value customers here like before and look to challenge customers. There was alot of pressure to change, air filter, rotate tires ect. when I said no they would returned with some remark. I asked if something had changed and that I had my oil changed here since I bought my car. He looked up my car history and said yes we serviced you car since 2007 but you were serviced a couple of time somewhere else challenging me. Miffed explained that my car was in the shop for about 2 months due to an accident and they change the oil there. The final straw which caused me to write this review is they said that my wiper blades needed to be replaced. I just replaced them 2 months a go. I walked out to the service bay and showed them that the rubber was brand new. They said look at the streaking. I said well why don't you wipe the leaf dropping from the bottom of the blades. They said we don't do that we just inform you that you have streaking and should replace your wiper blades. What? this is not customer service. I wanted a quick and easy lube from someone I can trust. Yes that sound funny but you know what I mean.. I don't mind some up selling but trying to sell a long time customer something that is not needed is not great PR. Be informed if you go here and check what they suggest. Total price for this service was 63.64 last year it was 32.61 yes they made their quota and an extra monthly profit but they lost servicing other two cars into the future. read more

No problem with speed and service from this Jiffy Lube. BUT BEWARE of the up-sell for unnecessary items. I was told my rear brake light was out and was asked if I would like it replaced. I said no just out of habit for these kinds of things. When I got home I checked all lights: not a single light was out on the car. Now either it happened not to be working at Jiffy Lube or the guy was being disingenuous at best. They also said I needed a new engine air filter--one I had replaced myself not very long ago. After my last experience at Jiffy Lube Mill Valley, I am boycotting their business. After changing my oil, they slammed the hood down on my passenger side wiper blade, trapping it under the edge of the hood and cracking the arm. The manager on duty, Christian, refused to take any responsibility for the damage, claiming that his crew never touched my wipers. In fact, they had inspected the wipers (because they try to sell you replacements). Jiffy Lube Mill Valley had plenty of wipers on hand. But because they have a confrontational approach to customer service, they refused to correct the damage. They've lost me as a customer. Go there at your own risk. Note that Jiffy Lube is a franchise. So there's little corporate control over what happens at the local level. This may contribute to the arrogant treatment of customers in the Mill Valley location. read more

I read other reviews and came fully armed with a printed coupon for $15 off and a dogged determination to dodge all the "extras" I read would be offered (almost insisted upon), for exorbitant fees. But no extras were offered, the coupon was accepted, and I left with six new quarts of synthetic oil for my S60 Volvo. My only complaint is that the sticker on my car indicated the next change due in 5k miles. To my understanding at least 7k, or even 8k, is appropriate between oil changes with synthetic. Otherwise, why would anyone pay so much for the stuff? TS read more

I can't understand why this place gets a low number of stars. I had an oil change with full synthetic oil and a tire rotation for $98 and it only took 20 minutes. They also checked all my other fluids, checked brakes, checked air filter and cabin filter . My regular mechanic would have charged $150 for that and I would have had to drop off my car and pick it up at the end of the day. Ali checked me in and Gyrus (?spelling) checked me out and both were super nice, respectful, and helpful. The waiting room was clean and had a Keurig machine. I brought my laptop and did work while I waited. I will definitely be coming back to this place. read more

I get there and have to wait 30mins after he already priced me for labor for him to say they can't do it if I have my own part. I said oh okay how much if I buy the parts from you. So, there are times when life gets crazy and I can't even schedule time to get the oil changed on my car. Jiffy Lube helps because you can just drive up and know you can get in and out and on your way. This is both a blessing and a bit of a curse. Haven't had any bad service and they've never totally messed up my car or anything, but I can't rate 'em much higher because every time I go in (which is really only when I'm in a pinch or had to take in work vehicles), they try to sell me more service, which epicly irks me. I'll change my own air filter thank you very much and if I wanted to do major service, I would've brought it in and mentioned that. I'm just here for an oil change, that's it! Not to mention, they are a bit on the high price end for a change, but they had a yelp deal, which dropped it to a reasonable amount. There are some pros though: they vacuum the interior, wash the windows, and the oil change is finished in a jiff and no appointment needed. read more

We sat in the car for 10 minutes while being ignored like they were hoping we'd drive away. Inspection called back to say it would be $550 done the following day. We said that wouldn't work. We hung up to pickup car and they called back to say they could do it today for more than quoted originally. Safety first, we agreed. "Warranty" included we figured it was a good idea. Problem is it wasn't a jiffy lube warranty, only that location. Brakes were poorly installed which led to visiting another location on our way down south to make adjustments as strange grinding noise was discovered. All that, they didn't bother cleaning the hub. I recently purchased a $25 gift card at Safeway for Jiffy Lube. I instantly received a $5.00 savings. I also had received an email from Jiffy Lube for a $15+ savings in the form of a coupon. I saved over $20 on this particular trip and as always, since 2008 continue to be pleased with the staff. They are professional, informative, and keep a clean and organized shop and wait room. I'm aware that up selling is part of the business as it it with most businesses and with that in mind take it lightly. I do find it somewhat humorous in the auto world, given my gender. It is usually assumed I have little knowledge about autos. I silently chuckle-I used to sell diesel parts for a living and my family background is auto-body repair and mechanics. read more

Don't sit in the lobby noodling on your phone if you come here. Watch what they're doing or they'll try to rip you off. Came in for an oil change, watched the guy take out my air filter, GRAB LEAVES that had been stuck under my hood/windshield wiper, walk near the driver side where it was harder to see, crush the leaves up and sprinkle them on the filter. THEN they tried to sell me a new filter because mine was "dirty." WTF! When I brought it up they didn't even say anything, apologize, or acknowledge that they'd done it. Shameless extortion and bullying. These scam artists tried to brow beat me into overpriced unnecessary synthetic oil claiming the the manufacturer (Scion Xb) requires it, which they do not. I told him I am not an idiot and to prove his claim. I kept telling him louder and louder that I wanted a regular oil change. He became abusive and belligerent. He was extremly irate that he could not "upsell me" and likely earn a commission. That's when he offered to take me out back and beat my ass. I called the manager who smirked and did nothing. Meanwhile they had drained the oil. I said I wanted my car back and I was leaving. He offered to put USED oil back in or charge me for new oil. As I mentioned, I know this business. I had not signed the work order yet and said I would file a complaint with the state (BAR - Bureau of Automotive Repair) and then I would call the Jiffy Lube franchise office. That did the trick. Meanwhile some other ex-con they had working there threatened me with violence. I said I would call 911. I'm from Detroit and am a black belt. I have a degree in automotive technology and lots of experience with cars. This was my wife's car who is very uncomfortable dealing with repair shops since she feels (righlty so) that she would be taken advantage of. What would an average person have done? Likely cave in and be coerced to buy what they didn't need. Warn your friends and let's all help this place die a fast death. read more

1 Star because ZERO stars not an option. As other reviewers have said, DON'T GO TO THIS BUSINESS!! I took my car here for an oil change last week and the next day while I was driving to work, but car wouldn't accelerate. I coasted down Polk Street to my authorized mechanics (Embarcadero Automotive - great, honest guys!!) and left my car with them for repair. They said that my "1 Way Intake Valve" was snapped in half (which they said was NOT an easy thing to do, would have taken some force) when the oil filter was replaced by whoever changed the filter last (JIFFY LUBE Mill Valley - the day before). I had to pay $235 to have a new valve installed. I called Jiffy Lube and they said that they are not responsible if parts were "fragile" and might have broke when the oil was being changed!! My mechanic said that it was a clean break and that the rest of the part showed no signs of wear and that Jiffy Lube was not being honest with me. Most expensive oil change I've ever had. Beyond unhappy, upset, and disappointed! First - upon pulling up, a rude employee pretty much pushes a clipboard into my hands - I'm required to fill out everything... including my plate number... seriously? I've never done that at a Jiffy Lube before, they at least write down the tag, while you and 3 other employees (who are doing nothing - just joke around with one another?).... I should have known customer service was going to stink at that point; however, things only got worse... When asked what service, I requested an oil change and let them know I had a headlight out, and if possible, wanted it changed out - I walked into the lobby, and then happily watched several employees vacuum out the interior of the car (the only bright spot of this experience)-- thinking my initial impressions were maybe off base.. The manager? came in and we did the preliminary stuff at the computer-- he left, and not long after returned, stating I needed to go from the least expensive oil change to the most expensive oil change... it's an 05 Honda Civic--- I questioned if there were ANY other options at all available - he stated "No", you can ONLY do the synthetic - no other option - to my dismay, I agreed - I'm driving a 2005 civic, and need it to last - so when told it's the ONLY option, I agreed - I was unhappy, but agreed... what I should have done was just driven away.... All said and done, the Manager comes back in and tells me ALL inspections were completed and passed - I asked about the headlight - he responded they all worked - I was confused, as the light has been out for a month, I even told the initial guy I wanted it changed.... but he reassured me all checks were done... at that point, I almost thought, "wow", these guys maybe "hooked" me up with the headlight, because I got screwed on the upsale!!!!! NOPE..... went outside, immediately checked the headlight - yep.. still out-- I was visibly upset, and the guy knew it, so the manager came over and saw the light out - then he yelled to the employees, "who checked the lights?", some dude spoke up, and the manager said "he's new" - so he asked me to open the hood,.... even though I should have known better, especially at his point (but I needed that darn headlight changed), I asked do you have this headlight?.. the manager said "yes", and I asked to please have it replaced... after about 2 minutes (TWO WHOLE MINUTES) he said the light couldn't be changed..... awesome job guys, love the effort...... I said to his face: "I'm very disappointed with the service I received today", thinking that perhaps he would explain things to me, or at the minimum, he would talk to me.... NOPE, he walked away and that was it! well this is what you get when obviously customer service doesn't come first, a poor review, based on poor service- Upon returning home, I looked online...... and guess what?!? a 2005 civic isn't absolutely required to have synthetic oil... yep I'm a sucker---- I feel badly that Jiffy Lube in Mill Valley isn't like the one I go to in Sacramento- but please stay away from this one - they lied to me, and they'll lie to you - they just don't care - I even tole them the light was out, I wonder how many other "courtesy" checks weren't completed??? I will also be sending a letter to Jiffy Lube Corporate regarding my visit today - customers deserve better than this- I just hope you Yelper's will take a moment to consider other options in Mill Valley other than this Jiffy Lube! read more

I went to this Jiffy Lube twice because they do an average job and usually have the customer service of a large corporation. My first visit was fine, nothing exceptional, nothing bad (except for the long wait, as usual). My second visit, however, kept me waiting an hour or more for an $80 oil change. When they finished, I paid, went to my car and without even getting in the car, I notice a pretty large grease stain on the light fabric of my driver's seat. Immediately, I went to an attendant and explained the problem, after which, he scrubbed the spot for literally 1 minute. Soon after, the manager, Chris (I believe), who was to this point, helpful, came over and said that they believed the stain was already there when I brought the car in. I tried explaining that that's not true and not possible (I'm a student researcher - not around mechanics or oil at any point throughout my day). To this they said (with 3 workers in my personal space now), there's no way the stain could have possibly settled within the hour or so that I was there, essentially calling me a liar. To which I said that an hour is plenty of time for a stain to settle and 3 or more attendants were in and out of my car and it's very likely that their pants were stained when they sat in my car. To end this story, I spoke with both the manager and supervisor and neither would take responsibility for the stain, leaving me to spend money and time scrubbing it (only to get about 85% of the stain out). This was an incredibly insulting experience, after which Jiffy Lube has completely lost my business and that of anyone, with whom I share this story. read more

Very, very frustrating experience, after several totally acceptable ones. Basically, the manager yelled at me, as did several of the workers, when I questioned their "up to 5 quarts" fee (my car uses 3 quarts of oil, and the $2 credit for the oil filter they told me to go buy because they didn't have them. Amazingly, when I calmy explained my curiousity at a $65 oil change fee for such a small job, they all told me that "no one put a gun to my head and forced me to go there". WARNING. Very focused on up-selling everything. When I said the regular oil was fine, they guy went on and on about how it really isn't good at all, and that I needed the extra priced oil. I said no, and he went "cheap, cheap, cheap". That woke me right up. I wonder if that works with other customers. I looked him right in the eye and asked him slowly and evenly if he thought the oil they sold was bad. He backed right off. He was afraid to bring up anything else to me and could see I no longer trust them. Am not confident they really checked the things they said they did. I wish I could give this place zero stars. I went with my girlfriend because her car needed an oil change and we were in a bit of a hurry. We showed up and all the bays were full but no one else was in line so we figured it would not take very long. We were wrong... After waiting 35 mins someone finally comes in and brings us outside to talk about her car. First off he says that it will need 6.6 quarts to fill it up. This surprised me because I know her car's capacity is 6 and it even says so in the manual. I bring it up to him and he says that the manual is wrong and that the computer must be right... He then noticed that I was visibly upset by this and said "well we'll look at it when we fill it up and make sure that we dont overfill it." (Oh and I dont want to forget that they tried to upsell us on a million things her car didnt need. But that should just be assumed because its jiffy lube.) Then 20 mins later when it was finally done we get in the car and leave and get 2 blocks away and I begin to smell oil... We pull over and I check the dipstick and sure enough it was overfilled by at least half a quart. So much for looking when you filled it up. We go back and show them and they say that they will drain some out and make sure it is right and only refund me 2 dollars for the extra half quart. TWO DOLLARS?! We had to wait 20 more minutes and then it was finally done. Please do not go to this place. I will never be back. Oh and I dealt with the manager the entire time I was there so do not think that it was the work of one of the employees. read more

Jiffy Lube is universally "good enough." This one, in Mill Valley, was quick (30 minutes, in and out) and efficient. HOWEVER... The "recommendation" to have oil changed every 3k miles is advocated only by those who profit from it: JIFFY LUBE, and their competitors. Most (if not all) auto manufacturers don't make that recommendation, and surely Ford --who is the maker of my vehicle-- does not. So, with that, it is bothersome to me that I am consistently upsold on EVERYTHING. My truck is 2005 with 97k miles. I keep her immaculate, and I USE her. I did have both the fuel filter and air filters changed at this facility on my last visit, but that is only because I had my truck out in rugged, dusty country for many miles and weeks in recent past (their argument that if you "can't see light through it" means air can't get through the filter made me giggle. Have you ever seen alveoli??). It is painfully irritating to me that Jiffy Lube's recommendations don't mirror those of vehicle manufacturers. But, this is what their business model is built on, and as an educated (FEMALE) consumer, this is the price I pay for convenience and quick service. A point of contention I have about THIS particular facility is that the man who checked me in was condescending and treated me like a "little lady" who didn't know her ass from her noggin'. I kept my Buddha nature in mind, and didn't teach him a lesson, but I made it clear that thirty years under the hood with my attorney-father, and then my own medical school and a continued interest in mechanics keep me pretty freakin' savvy. Thankfully there was another customer, a delightful older gentleman, who I very much enjoyed chatting with. A tip: google "Jiffy Lube Coupon" and you will surely print some money ($10-15). read more
