I had heard and read a lot about Jim n Nick's BBQ for years and finally had the opportunity to be in Birmingham, Alabaster to be specific, and met family for a nice lunch. I ordered the combo plate with two meats, chopped beef brisket and pulled pork, with beans and potato salad and nothing was edible for me and I usually like to eat. But the chopped brisket was too tough, really, and.had not much flavour by itself. I had ordered all meat dry, sauce on the side. The pulled pork had so much pulled fat with it I couldn't separate the two. I tried the beans and they were okay and the potato salad was commercial, nothing home-made. The service was good and friendly. For a party of six and a tab over$125, I expected more due to the reputation which was way overstated. read more

Have gotten take out here a few times lately. Even after I got home, my potato was steaming hot! The potato can be a meal in itself! All the bbq that I have had is delicious. The salad & blue cheese were amazing! The food is definitely high quality. read more

Really torn and want to give this place a higher review. All in all they are really good. Staff have always been friendly and accommodating. Regardless of if you are using the drive through or seated in the bar area to get a to go order or in the regular restaurant. BBQ is really good. They actually have some leaner cuts of meat than some of the other BBQ places. Also, they have some pretty good burgers, sometimes it's hard to get BBQ if you're in the mood for a good burger. They also have a really, really good greek salad with smoked chicken. Also, their mac and cheese, sets the bar pretty high. My wife strives to duplicate what they offer. But, hands down, the star of the show are those blasted stupid cheese biscuits. Warm, smoking hot (heat temp not heat spicy) cheesy goodness that comes in every bite of the mini sized biscuits. Let's just be honest, these things are legit not good .... you can seriously eat a 100 of these things and not feel bad about it (until tomorrow). I'm not sure what they put in them but we crave these things and nothing is a fix until you have them. You've been warned!!! So why only three stars. When going through the drive through they have about a 25% chance at getting the order right. Sometimes caught at home (not any more - check before leaving). Then you have to go in wait for it to get remade .... not ideal. Other than that they are pretty spot on. read more

Good food! I ordered the kitchen sink nachos with chicken and an Arnold Palmer to drink. No complaints for sure! Our waitress, Shelby, was totally awesome! She was attentive to our table and made sure we had what we needed. Her attitude was pleasant and she was such a sweet person. I've been to this location before and I will return. The food tasted good, but was not hot when it arrived at our table. The employees were courteous. I liked the setup they used to have. You go up to counter and they bring food to the table. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! Attempted to eat at longhorn steakhouse and the parking lot was full and it was such a long wait that we decided to go to Jim & Nicks. The 70% empty parking lot should of been a clue not to eat here, but the wife and I decided to give it a go. I got the Jim's combo plate with ribs, that's an upcharge, ribs, oh, that's upcharge, onion rings, upcharge also, and a side salad that's also an upcharge. I ordered water. The Mrs got a Carolina pork plate with Ice-T. Ribs came out cold, brisket came out cold, pulled pork came out cold. I took mine back to the staff but my wife decided to keep hers (she doesn't complain about subpar food and just tolerates it). Carolina pork plate, sweet tea, and Jim's combo meat plate for 2 came to a whopping $52.40!!! Jim and Nick's will NEVER, EVER get my business again (THX Taylor Swift). Manager tried to make it right but informed me that they do not have any more ribs... That's like McDonald's running out of french fries...are you kidding? So, I got two orders of brisket, but did not enjoy my meal at all because I was so upset, at the terrible service and cold meals. I will spend my $52.40 elsewhere in the future. I attached a picture of the parking lot and the inside of the restaurant. That should have been my clue not to order, which is counter service and didn't even get greeted... Terrible customer service, terrible wait staff, and cold brisket, cold pork, and cold ribs. Person from the back sadly informed me that they have no way of heating up the ribs I had...what a joke. Another place that has fallen big time. We used to go here quite often before Covid. It's not the same anymore. From not having table service anymore(think fast food restaurant like blue moon) . Hubbie stopped there today on his way home. He got ribs ( the only good thing that is still good) he got 2 sides in the smallest containers (it might b a 1/2 c max in each) coleslaw and turnip greens . The turnip greens he said were so salty. They gave him two cheese biscuits which honestly is a joke . He ordered fries which he never received. All in all It was a disappointment and a shock the way it is now. This is pretty sad . Quite crowded. Seated fast. Booth requested. No problem. Server seemed over whelmed due to the crowd. I loved the fact that he let me order from the kids menu due to my small tummy and didn't give me a wth face or ask to many personal questions as to why and this and that. I really appreciated that. Most places just say no and don't care what the reason is. I ordered the riblets kids meal with baked beans. My love ordered the 1lb rib dinner with mac and cheese and potato salad. Food comes and I have spare ribs. Which was fine once I was told all they do is cut the rib bones up into pieces it's not the riblets I had in mind. The baked beans were yummy. Kese food was delivered correctly we loved the potato salad but her Mac and cheese was very cold and she's not a send stuff back type so for her to send it back it was way to cold. They brought her some piping hot. It was deliciously hot and gooey. So good save. Now these damn biscuits and honey butter are of the devil and should be stopped. I used to love the loaded baked potatoes but lately it seems like they don't put any toppings on it and still charge $7 dollars.

Service was great. Little different since they don't actually take order at table but service is always amazingly fast so definitely a positive trade off. Food has always been good though last visit the asked if I wanted the lean brisket, say yes absolutely, I left it up to them and got a good bit a fat was ok but lean is much better. Smoked Turkey is always good, but the ribs this day were a little tough. The bbq corn is off the hook, and over all a good meal just the ribs could have been a bit more tender. There is no longer ordering or full service from your seat. You now order from a counter, thats OK I guess, but defaulting the tip screen to 17%? Are you kidding me. 17% for what? We've always liked Jim n Nicks and have been happy, satisfied customers for about 30 years. However, we definitely don't like the new service format in the Alabaster, Alabama store. Today, March 12, 2023, was our first time to visit since the change in format. To be honest, we've been reluctant to visit after we heard about the change. To us, Jim n Nicks went from a nice sit-down restaurant to basically a fast-food restaurant. The items on the menu have been reduced, you have to order from a counter instead of from your table, prices are higher and apparently there's little or no service once your food has been delivered. On top of all that, they still expect tips! Seriously? Change back to the old format or you can expect us to go to Full Moon BBQ in the future. read more

The food was just ok. I don't like how they seem to give you half of the side portions. The containers are legit half the size they used to be. The reason why I gave this review 2 stars is because I ordered the 2 catfish fillet meal and instead, they gave me 4 small catfish nuggets pieces! If you know how small the biscuits are, you can see the fish isn't much bigger and definitely not 2 full pieces of fish. My mom surprised me with a visit today. I know she really came to see my nephew but I was glad to see her. She said she had a taste for some que, so we decided to get it from Jim N Nick's. We both had the rib sandwhich on sourdough. One with mac and cheese and the other with potato salad. I enjoyed mine and she really really enjoyed hers. We both were able to get full and there is no need to eat for the rest of the day. The person who took my order over the phone was plesant. I assume the person who asked if I was taken care of at the bar was a manager, he was attentive. Overall a great experience. read more

With Jim and Nicks being a chain you don't have to look to far to find one. But not all are created equal. We've gone to several around and by far the food and service is a it above at Alabaster Jim and Nicks. They have a large covered outdoor area I love! And the sit on top of a little hill so you don't get a lot of road noise. :)) Our server was great! We enjoyed her a lot and she made sure our food was brought out as each dish got ready. We wasn't too hungry, just needed something light. So We enjoyed the riblets. Always tender and Smokey. We also ordered the quesadilla- it was ok but not great. Probably won't order it again. I do love their little muffins! They may be my favorite part! We had a little room left so ordered the banana pudding- I was surprised at how good it is! Reminded my of my mama's- cooked pudding not instant, creamy, delicious! read more

Jim N Nicks is a fantastic BBQ place. It is a little pricey but well worth it. Their sliced BBQ,smoked white meat chicken and smoked turkey are all amazing. The sides are wonderful! I got the 2 meat combo with the pulled pork and white smoked off the bone chicken with baked beans and potato salad with an appetizer of delicious onion rings. Delicious! Very disappointed in the changes with this location. They made it so that you order at the counter rather than having a waiter. That is totally fine, but the fact that you only get 1-2 cheese biscuits is completely despicable. One of the main reasons we like this restaurant is the basket of biscuits you get. Charging for something so cheap is outrageous and we will not return until this is fixed. Also the portions used to be very decent, but I had a pork sandwich full of fat and half the amount of fries I am used to. The prices need to be drastically decreased if they wish to serve food like that at this location. Well we were definitely disappointed eating here...our waitress we found out was new but she def needed way more training and should not have been left on the floor solo yet. We said we were ready to order but she turned around and helped another table behind us and we ended up having to wait longer just to order. We both got our food and the meat was COLD. Ugh gross sorry I don't like cold pulled pork. The waitress was no where are you? To be seen so we asked another server if she could please tell someone our food was cold. The cook came out and said maybe it's a cold sauce..I touched the meat in front of him and said nope-the actual MEAT IS COLD! So he took the meals and brought new ones out. By the time we got it we had to hurry and eat and had to take most of it to go bc we had somewhere to be & we'd been there for too long by that time. Just disappointed bc we love bbq. Overall a bad experience but we flew in for a night so we won't have to go back there anyway I suppose. Please train the waitstaff properly before putting them on the floor tho-that would have saved us a lot of frustration.
