Long story short, I had better. And I had this chain before, I'm not sure what happened, maybe it was the wrong time. I ordered the half rack of baby back ribs with 2 trimmings. Service was slow but I wasn't bothered by it. We sat on the patio and it was a beautiful evening. On to the food; the ribs were not fall off the bone like I'm used to. The ribs were also too fatty for my liking. My initial thought was to order the baked potato and I really wished I did. Will I eat at Jim n Nicks again, probably. Was in town for match competition. Plenty of fast food places but decided to try this BBQ restaurant. Ordered the BBQ with side of Greens(which didn't taste cooked enough and needed some vinegar and were bitter)Mac N Cheese. Received order then have to ask for sauce separately which took time to get. Overall the meet didn't have any smoky flavor even though they use wood or at least it's shown as enter. Had huge piece of fat that made me loose my appetite trying to separate it from the meat. More QC when chopping it up to avoid such obvious inedible fat pieces. Left with feeling that once and done and don't plan to return. Could have had a better meal at Panera Bread for 1/2 the price. read more

Stopped by Jim 'N Nick's BBQ hoping for a solid meal, but it ended up being a bit of a mixed bag. The brisket was a letdown -- dry, overcooked, and had that bitter burnt edge like it sat under the heat lamp too long. Pulled pork was also on the dry side, lacking the juiciness you expect from slow-cooked BBQ. On the upside, the pork ribs were actually really good -- tender, flavorful, and fell off the bone just right. If I go back, it'll probably be just for those. The whole place feels very commercialized now -- more chain restaurant than genuine BBQ joint -- and the prices reflect that. For what you're getting, it's just not great value. read more

Without a doubt some worst bbq south of the Mason-Dixon line. The baby back ribs were so tough I had to saw through the caramelized bbq sauce with a serrated survival knife l carried. In the last two months we are at Jim N Nicks BBQ three times . Each time we ordered the ribs. I have eaten there many times over the years and the food has always been good. However the last three times the food (ribs) have been either over cooked (charred) on the ends . I like a little smoke on bbq but the ribs tasted really Smokey . We went through the drive thru. A bit of an odd location, but the food is just as good! You walk in and order then have a seat. Their menu is shortened from the larger locations. But there is still plenty to choose from. Man where do I start. First of all this at one time was a great place to go get some great BBQ and collards and macaroni & cheese. But after covid things went down hill and continues to do so. The collards are so hot with pepper you can't eat it unless you like hot and spicy food. The macaroni & cheese don't have cheese anymore just the white cream cheese or something like that. The service and ambience of the place seems fine, but when I go for barbecue food, I don't want my food to be so salty that it burns my mouth. And then on top of it being one of the only places I've ordered from while I was here in Oxford it gave me food poisoning. I'm not a very picky eater and I do try everything at least once but those ribs were just salted and I don't know if it was the ribs or the sides that poisoned me. read more

Ordered the brisket.. do not recommend. It wasn't cooked long enough so it was mostly fat and definitely was not cut right. It was about $23 a plate and couldn't even eat half of it. I was in town and had to dine here after trying the cheese biscuits a colleague was kind enough to give me during my last visit into town. That was 2 months ago. So when I learned that I would be back in town I just knew that I had to come here. First allow me to prefix this by saying this was my first and only time ever dining at Jim 'N Nick's. Second, I'm glad that I didn't allow the negative Yelp reviews prevent me from patronizing this establishment. I loved the exterior. It's very modern and has an outdoor section to sit and eat outside. The interior of the restaurant was just as nice. I was on a time constraint but was able to order, dine in, and leave in 30 minutes. I ordered the beef brisket sandwich, along with the collard greens, and cheese biscuits. Let me tell you these cheese biscuits are probably as good as the cheddar bay biscuits discussed on the Martin Lawrence show (lol). Man these are some pretty damn good biscuits! The collard greens are really good as well. It comes with pieces of meat. Not sure if it was beef or pork. Please be advised that the portion are small. I ordered extra biscuits. The beef brisket sandwich was not dry but I would have preferred if it was cooked with the sauce as opposed to being placed on it after the brisket was cooked. I would like to give a shout out to Francine who exhibited exceptional customer service. She greeted me at the door, delivered my order, and when I realized that my order was partially delivered, she corrected the error expeditiously! Our second visit to this location. Looking for a good pulled pork sandwich while on the the road. First visit: we used the drive thru, they had the double lanes like another fast food place, so we should be in & out. It didn't happen, the kitchen or the servers (runners) couldn't keep the lines moving. A Painfully long wait. Food Ok. Second visit: decided to go for a sit down meal this time. One server running orders, takeouts and the bar. We didn't have a long wait but saw other customers fidgeting waiting to be served, while other personal were on their phones or just looking busy. Table servers were pleasant and helpful. The food: pork sandwich no sides, came out quickly. Hot and juicy, halfway thru I discovered a chicken wish bone poking the roof on my mouth. Opening the sandwich I discovered a second bone along with chicken skin. I got the attention of a senior employee and revealed my discovery. She apologizes and offers to inform the kitchen. New-ish bbq place at the Exchange. Went there for lunch around 12:15pm, it was surprisingly not busy. Ordered easily the southern hamburger with corn on the cob. Service was quick and friendly. Staff kept checking on us to make sure we were well attended to. The food was tasty as one would expect bbq to be. The hamburger was delicious especially with the fried onion ring with it. The cheese corn bread was sweet and soft. The corn was on the spicy side and was crunchy. Sat in the patio which was nice with the fan picking up the early fall breeze. This was our second visit ordered 2 loaded potatoes with Brisket on side and dip with Brisket, we got Food was warm not HOT waited for a little while because CASHIER (Lynn), did not know what we meant about Brisket on side. So, the Manager that was on duty came to the table behind us and next us and asked them if everything was okay, just looked us and never asked if we needed anything or if everything was okay, she made us feel some type of way, very rude. we didn't finish the food just got up and left. She made it so plan to see that we weren't welcomed there my thing we don't care if you don't care for certain types of people then get a job where you don't have to deal with the public. we were charged $47.82 for 2 potatoes that was so dry Ridiculous, we couldn't get anyone to get us EXTRA sour cream or anything so SAD!!!! Wish we had looked at Yelp, prior to eating at this Jim and Nick's. Been eating at Jim and Nick's in Jasper, AL, for years. I would certainly recommend Jasper, AL, Jim and Nick's, but man....not this one. Not even close. Not at all the same, except for the names on the menu. Food: Terrible. Just gross. Sit down restaurant prices, with fast food quality and environment. Food tasted pre-made and reheated. Too many other choices around to settle for this. Service: What service? You pay up front when ordering, like Taco Bell. Except you have the electronic tipping button to deal with (I don't remember there being an option to NOT tip....if I remember right, tipping choices started at 18%). Oh, and expect the same Taco Bell employee professionalism, as well. Ambiance: After waiting in line, ordering, and paying, just fill up your plastic cup at the soda station, sit down at one of the stripped bare tables (No salt, pepper, napkins, no anything) and wait for your table marker to start buzzing. So tacky. When we were there, the music was blaring with whining guitars....so that added nothing to the dining ambiance. Recommendation: Not at all recommended. Not at all. New restaurant in town it is definitely not like the other Jim N Nicks you have to wait in line at the door place your order (the lady we got was so happy not ) she didn't even greet us. When we placed our order we had to find a place to sit and eat Once we found a table guess what it was nasty so had to find someone to wipe it off. Then we went to get our drinks from the fountain machine. We waited for a while to get our food My husband said his was fine my bbq sandwich was cold not to mention it had chunks of gristle in it which is so gross when you take a big bite Ugh so I asked one of the ladies that was walking around is the sandwich supposed to be cold and showed her the meat with the chunks of gristle in it she said let me take that for you. They brought me a fresh plate out and it was yummy Just not a good first experience here. As others have said, meat is served cool and isn't trimmed well. So there are pieces of gristle in there. Not a whole lot of smoked flavor. Sauce is good. It's served on top of the meat, masking it's flavor. Its on the spicy side without it being able to be called spicy. I liked it but didn't like that it was served on top of the meat. Also they are stingy with it. The plates are served with little cheese muffins that are a bit on the sweet side. They sell bags of the mix so I guess that means they are popular, just not my cup of tea. Mac and cheese is solid, casserole style, much appreciated. So this is a counter service restaurant, you fill your own drink and take this beacon thing to your table and they bring out your food. So if you want hot sauce, more bbq sauce, salt and pepper etc you have one chance to ask when your tray is brought out. If you don't you won't see another employee until you're food is cold(er) It's a little confusing as to if you are walking into a counter or traditional restaurant. I didn't really like that. I'd recommend Big Daddy's in Munford, just down the road a bit. read more

People pay when they enter. The line to pay is always slow. Went Saturday evening but they were "out of ribs." Called just after 5PM Sunday and the said they had ribs. Arrived at 6PM and they said they "just ran out of ribs." This is not the first time. This is a barbeque place that is frequently out of ribs. The food is good when they have it. Calling is pointless so thought I would save someone else the grief possibly and let you know to check everything before you leave. Food is decent but to pay for a doz extra biscuits and not get them. No ranch included with salad. And missing one side entirely is just beyond stupid. I know it's hard to expect people to do their jobs these days in general but how hard is it to read a damn receipt and put what it says in a bag? Not like I could just go back up there! This place is a new format from what I am use to in the Georgia restaurants and not in a good way. You have to order at the counter then find a place to sit on your own. Food is brought to your table, no salt, pepper or condiments are present. I ordered the Carolina BBQ sandwich and was very disappointed, it came with 1 tablespoon cole slaw, 10 fries, 1- 2 bite muffin and a sandwich with no sauce to be found. Such a disappointment. I would give it 0 stars if I could. I've visited several locations (Trussville, Gardendale, Hoover, etc.) and am always pleased. This location is nothing like the others. Have to order at the counter and then take a number to your table. You will not receive a basket of cheese biscuits. If you are lucky, you will get one on your tray. Silverware and bbq sauce required multiple requests. The server that brings the food to the table was one of the rudest I've ever encountered. The food was subpar, as well. I had to send back a sandwich with undercooked meat. Truly, a bad experience in every way. The final straw.....I ordered a piece of lemon pie to go and was given coconut. Disappointed! I have been to all the Jim and Nicks n Birmingham and Trussville. I am a big Jim and Nick's fan. This place doesn't have the atmosphere that the others have. Noisy! My rating today would be "1" for the hostess. She talked far too much and held up the line of people waiting to place our orders. One of the two employees was waiting for an extended length of time with nothing to do because the hostess held everything up with her non-stop talking. I was second in line to order for my husband me but was stalled while the hostess talked on and on to the party ahead of me. My husband finally had to sit down because he is unable to stand for an extended period of time. I'd rate the food 5 both of my visits. I'd rate our waitress 5 today.
