    Shrimp tempura roll

Yay we have a sushi restaurant in Friday Harbor! We have been in twice. I love the spicy yellowtail roll! When the weather is chilly plan to go in for ramen on Friday and Saturday nights. It was so delicious and the pork belly had great flavor. You should call ahead and request the ramen because they may sell out early. Definitely make a reservation because it is pretty busy and the food is good. I also love what they've done with the interior. It feels pretty hip and swanky perfect for a date night in Friday Harbor.

    Spicy Ramen

We visited over the holiday weekend, this place did not disappoint. The mixed nigiri plate was melt in your mouth good. My mother does not eat sushi, She ordered the shrimp tempura udon and absolutely loved it. Although she wasn't a fan of the mushrooms, so I ended up finishing the bowl but no complaints there, the broth was amazing! My son got the spicy ramen and loved it, the meat was so tender that we made emoji faces with the veggies and meat while we waited for the sushi! The food was really really good, and even with how busy it was, the service was friendly and attentive. We'll definitely be back every time we visit Friday Harbor!

    Chicken yakitori bowl

I got a chicken yakitori bowl to go. Online ordering was smooth process on their website. The meal was on the heavy side of charred. The burnt meat over took any flavor it had. I ate around the meat after the second piece. Sushi is okay though After posting this review, the owner called immediately the next day to apologize and refund me for the meal. I appreciated this action & response, Thank you Mike.

    Ramen served Friday and Saturday

We had been waiting for the opportunity to try Jima as there are only one other sushi at FH. We finally made it for lunch, surprisingly open during a Friday in the low season. We had ramen, it was awesome. We also tried a sushi roll - spicy tuna- very well made and fairly packed with tuna! Favorite too was that they served NA Sapporo as well as other Japanese beer and sake. The menu is great - simple and awesome, place is great and location is right next to the ferry so be sure to check it out on the way in or out of the island. Remember that Ramen is only served on Friday and Saturday but rolls are there anytime.

Spot Prawn, Scallop and Yellowtail hand rolls. Delicious!

Our party of three visited for lunch at noon on a Thursday. Since we had a reservation, we were seated immediately at a lovely table right by the window. The atmosphere was great, and the staff were incredibly courteous and friendly throughout our meal. We initially thought about starting with some small plates, but we were so eager for seafood that we jumped straight into the entrees. We weren't disappointed: Bouillabaisse: This was our first time trying this dish, and it was the highlight for us. It was incredibly flavorful--exactly what we were craving. Spicy Prawn Mac and Cheese: It definitely lived up to its name! It wasn't "blow-your-head-off" hot, but it had a perfect, noticeable kick that really elevated the dish. Blackened Cod Tacos: These were fantastic. The cod was perfectly prepared and worked so well with the rest of the taco ingredients. We also enjoyed a couple of non-alcoholic drinks that hit the spot, though I'll admit that since I'm writing this a couple of weeks later, I forgot to snag photos or the specific names of the drinks! They also have a really nice patio area if you prefer dining outdoors. Whether you're a seafood lover or just looking for a great meal with a view, this place is a must-visit!

For the nature of the restaurant, we had hoped for our waitress to be more friendly and genuine. However, it felt like they just wanted to fulfill our order and be done. I ordered the South Sound Clams and Snapper Sandwich. Bathing in an umami-packed and rich Thai curry broth, the clams were tender and fresh with a bit of brine. Very good and shareable with one other person. The snapper sandwich wowed me! The bright escovitch and creamy avocado paired wonderfully with the snapper. Every bite was delightful. The house-made potato chips, however, were disappointing. They were thin, not crispy, and sticking to my teeth. If you can, substitute for fries or salad. Despite our subpar service, the delicious, well-priced food and beautiful scenery still make this the perfect date spot.

I did like the grilled oysters a bit more than the raw ones, my favorite out of the three was the Chipotle bourbon, it was sweet and tangy and the flavor meshed well with the grilled oyster. The main problem with this place is it's quite expensive, ~$2.5/raw oyster, $4.5/grilled oyster, and $1.5/clam for the clam bowl. The ambiance was great, the views of the water were nice. Service was also fine, if you get the DIY shuck oysters they give you a demo which is great. 4.6/5

When you arrive there is a free parking lot out front. I'd definitely recommend placing a reservation before you arrive as it can get busy. The atmosphere is a laidback, on a farm, and hidden. When we arrived we checked in with the host and then were seated along the water. To start we ordered the seasonal panzanella salad which was an excellent to start the meal. Next we ordered several grilled oysters including the Herb Lemon Garlic, Lime Cilantro Sriracha, and Chipotle Bourbon. The Herb Lemon Garlic flavor was by far my favorite given the nice balance of flavors. If you are on San Juan Island you definitely need to check out this shell shack.

It actually kind of 5 course as they gave everyone and initial little bite that the chef put together. I can't quite remember what it was, but I think it was some kind of cauliflower blended bite (see first pic). The price was definitely decent for the four course, it wasn't super expensive or anything. I also tried the goat cheese souflee, which was good, the crab roast was better though, then I had the pasta which needed salt and didnt have much flavor. I will say though that someone got the filet mignon and that was really good. The fondue was basic, but the bread and ice cream was amazing! So biggest takeaway is I think this place is really hit or miss. There's some items that are good/great and others that are really not good/great. So if you come and pick the good stuff I think you'd really enjoy it!

I thought the staff were all very friendly! A lot of them were actually students from Thailand, so it was really interesting getting to know and chat with them! They provided a few great tips for the area and things to do. Regarding the food, my family and I shared a few items. We shared the captain's platter, which included fried fish, scallops, prawns, calamari, and clams, as well as the rockfish, a few grilled oysters, and clam chowder. I'd say the fried platter and clam chowder were on the more underwhelming side. I think for a location that takes pride in their seafood it seemed a bit more run of the mill for me. I did however love the grilled oysters and rockfish! May consider coming back just for the oysters and view, but there are other businesses on the harbor I'd like to check out as well.

Unfortunately, our experience ended before we ever made it to a table. When we arrived, the hostess was on the phone. We waited patiently, but there was no acknowledgment of our presence--not even a simple "I'll be right with you." Once she finished her call, we asked for a table for four. Rather than greeting us or explaining the wait in a courteous manner, she simply shook her head and informed us there would be a 40-45 minute wait. The issue was not the wait time; it was the complete lack of hospitality. Had we been greeted warmly and treated like valued guests, we likely would have waited. Instead, we were left with the clear impression that our business was neither wanted nor appreciated. We chose to leave immediately and spent $200+ at another restaurant where we felt welcomed. While I understand that busy restaurants often have long waits, there is no excuse for poor customer service and basic discourtesy. Based on this experience, I will not return, nor would I recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area.

The ambiance is cozy and warm, feeling like you are invited to dinner at your friends home, if your friend also happens to have an exceptional wine cellar, a farm, and is a wonderful chef. The way Duck Soup executes farm to table with such beautiful presentation is really a treat and the combination of textures and flavors was a journey that is worth a trip to San Juan Island alone. We had wonderful service and we were so grateful for recommendations on how to navigate through the menu! We started with the Spiced Carrots - they were incredibly paired with a salad, cracker, and cheese combo - perfection. For the main course we split the scallops and the filet. Scallops were served with fresh fingerling potatoes and this fresh, citrus/herb forward sauce that was so bright and refreshing (we are still talking about it). The filet was cooked great and served with a Demi glacé that was also just so perfect. the pomme puree was also flavorful and had a lot of amazing flavor on its own! Thank you Duck Soup for making our Anniversary memorable - we can't wait to visit again and again.
