We sorely miss what Seattle teriyaki was before most of the restaurants started shifting toward serving sushi. We used to eat at Teriyaki Time several times a month and now we eat there only a few times a year, and only when the teriyaki craving is overpowering. The amount of chicken teriyaki is 1/4 to 1/3 what teriyaki joints used to serve. The rice is always a mushy clump, like they're scraping the overcooked rice off of the bottom of the rice cooker, and they don't give you sweet and sour sauce for your egg roll unless you remember to ask for it when you pick up your takeout. While the portion sizes have shrunk and quality has suffered, prices have gone way up. Oh, and they've also started shoving all of the food into one small container that contains mostly rice, including the gyoza, so forget it if you are craving it crispy. We're sad that it's so difficult to get good Seattle-style teriyaki now, when Teriyaki Time used to be so good! read more

This is not fine dining, but I was looking for simple chicken teriyaki, and they did not disappoint. The portion was large, piping hot, chicken was cooked perfectly with tender inside and seared edges from the grill. Sauce is not goopy cornstarch laden gel. Just what we were looking for as we ran to catch the ferry. Also, the sushi chef made me want to come back and try the sushi. Before meeting my partner, I had never been to Teriyaki Time but when she introduced me to it - it was love at first sight. I ALWAYS order a California Roll with Spicy Mayo, and it had been normal- I'd order, there would be a cup on the side with my sauce, however the last time I went, I had some trouble. I'm an arm amputee and while I can use chopsticks to grab and dip, sometimes my wrist gives out. I don't think they knew this but we went recently (my third time there) and the sauce was beautifully laid out on the sushi for me. There's a large chance that they just did it because they are trying new plating methods or whatnot but even then, their service and attention to detail is TREMENDOUS. I had the chicken teriyaki and gyoza combination lunch. The gyoza was great! So tasty. I enjoyed that the most out of my plate for sure. The chicken teriyaki was also good but I do prefer my teriyaki to have more of a saucy quality to it. These were a bit dry for me, personally. But still good. And the portion of rice was great. The salad was not a throwaway either. Next time I am visiting Anacortes I think I will try the sushi here. It seems to be popular among other reviewers. We've been going to Teriyaki Time Anacortes since it first opened over 20+ years and never had a bad meal until today. Very disappointed that you now pack 3/4 of the containers with rice with smaller portions of meat; not to mention the containers are much smaller too. The way the meat was prepared is not how you've prepared it in the past and for as long as we can remember. The spicy sauce was HORRIBLE. Tasted like you used ketchup. Not worth $75. Very disappointed and way overpriced; especially with such smaller portions of meat. Guess the over abundance of rice is to compensate for less meat. Sushi is medium grade comparing to the big city. Need more variety of fish such as flute, mackerel and red snapper. Tempera being used in the roll should be more crispy instead of the pre-cooked that taste mushy or wet. Service is great. Not much privacy when dinning inside. read more

I would give less than 0 stars. I stopped in to pick up a to go order for my husband for sushi. He has never ordered from here before and never again. The restaurant is run down and the kitchen is disgusting as you can see it when you are at the register. While I was sitting down waiting for the order in the completely empty restaurant at 1:15 (should have been a clue) I saw what appeared to be the cook? Slurp from the industrial ladle twice from the pot that was cooking on the stove. He slurped out of the ladle and then put the ladle back into the pot- twice that I saw. I even got up after first slurp to make sure it was an actual cook pot that could be for customers and it was. Then he slurped again and put the ladle back in to stir. DISGUSTING and HORRIFYING! My husband is from CA from the 80s where they didn't require food permits in restaurants so he has guts of steel and is going to try the sushi anyway. The food was good, but the woman on the phone was beyond rude. She sounded like an older woman. I placed my order to go, which included a spring roll. I asked "could I please add sweet and sour sauce for the..." and she's completely cuts me off saying "I KNOW, I KNOW, I KNOW, I KNOW" and then hangs up on me. The food is ok here and we have spent lots of money ordering sushi over the years. The previous owners sold off the business and has been under new ownership for 1-2 years. There is a gal that tends the phone and the register here who is very unpleasant. You call and the first thing she says "you do know this is Teriyaki Time Anacortes?". Yes I say. Then I ordered Nirigi but I didn't enunciate correctly to her liking. She said "hello mam, and proceeded to be confused and irritated ". I look at my husband for guidance while on speaker phone because he's always ordered this way. She rudely educated me how it I should say Nirigi. This has happened twice now. Just a note to owners, there is a reason your restaurant was empty when I picked up my last order. Consider educating your counter girl not to be so rude. At first just the placement of the restaurant gave me pause, putting this place next to a messuage and nail parlor is by no means doing this place justice. At first it looked like the powers that be just needed to fill a gap in town and there just so happened to be a restaurant that wanted to come into town, but maybe "they" had no real idea about just how great the food here really is. Going to trying their food from a comment a friend mentioned to me at least four years ago and taking my family there again for the last few years, all because of this friend telling me what they thought of the place all those years ago. The best parts of the story, for me, is that there food has stayed at peak levels, with wait staff turnover throughout the years, the food had been almost the same for all those years. I have a love of infused food for a long time now, all because of a friend's word about it. The sushi seems to be always on display for the costumer, I can only wish it could be the "catch of the day." But, with a cold drink on tap, it almost makes up for the ladder. Besides the fact that almost no restaurant in town cannot or does not take advantage of the fishermen just down on the docks a stones throw away this would be the closest to a fresh catch for the tourist & townie alike. The restaurant, whenever we come in, is either really busy or a group or two eating but almost never is there no one in there eating. I cannot say that the wait staff are on point all the time but the chef and manager make up for it. Lets not forget the sushi chef behind his open kitchen! He can be a site to see after an order comes to his side of the kitchen, and most days he does not mind a few onlookers. So next time your in Anacortes come by, just past safeway and before the end of the island where Dekota creek works on some of the massive ships and, yes, even a few boats from time to time. read more

We didn't realize this until we were 10 minutes away, opening the bag to eat. I called and asked, and got a half-assed sorry. I asked if I had been charged the full price. "Yup." If I could give this place zero stars I would. My first time here. I ordered the chicken teriyaki, but did not want rice with it. I asked the lady what kind of rice it was and she said fried rice. I said well OK I guess I'll try it. Another lady packaged up my order and brought it to the counter. She said did you have the chicken? I said yes, with the fried rice. She said no! It's white rice! We entered from the back door where the parking was. We had to walk by 3 large steamed rice pots on tables and boxes that were on the floor in the hallway. We got seated right away from a pleasant server/host. Our server spoke very little English. My daughter asked for a side of eel sauce for her sushi roll but she miss understood and ordered what looked like potstickers. We kept them and they were good. In fact the food is amazing at this place. However, we were not asked about drinks and were brought water about 10 minutes after we sat. When we asked if they served any alcohol, we were told no. Looking around at all the tables, they all only had water, not even a single table with soda. When the server came by she was carrying 2 water glasses with ice. She saw our water glasses were low so she used those glasses in her hand to refill them. I looked across the restaurant and I saw water pitchers on a counter. Everyone ordered a dish except my one daughter, she ordered a roll. Unfortunately she got her roll about 10 minutes before the rest of the food came out (there were 5 of us total). She thought the food was coming out and ended up eating her roll before we got served. They should have been brought it out all together. I recently went to Teriyaki Time for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised by the huge selection of choices on the menu. I had avoided eating here because I thought it only had teriyaki. I ordered the healthy vegetarian sushi and the vegetable ramen. First, the sushi. Not a fan. At all. The sushi roll would not stay together. It had an odd combination of veggies including lettuce and there was some sweet sauce on the side (the kind of sauce sometimes served with spring rolls). It was easily the worst vegetarian sushi I've ever had. As for the ramen, it was delicious. I ordered the spicy option and it was definitely spicy. Next time I would order it without the large amount of egg, but that is a personal preference. The flavor of the broth was excellent and it's the best ramen I've found (for vegetarians) in the North Sound. read more
