Jimmy John's! I always thought this was just ANOTHER sandwich shop until I hear people raving about it on facebook and spotting the delivery cars constantly circling around my apartment block. I guess the free advertising worked! One day, I decided to order Jimmy John;s over the phone and that's when I learned that they are NOT just ANOTHER sandwich shop. Sooo here's what I think: - freaky fast delivery!!! I hung up the phone and 10-15 minutes later they were knocking on my door - I love the sub bread and the 7 grain wheat bread - Love the fresh vegetables; especially the alfafa sprouts! - not your average sandwich place! - a little on the pricey side as I am used to 5 dollar footlongs :P read more

Jimmy johns is an above average sandwich shop in my opinion. Their delivery is definitely freaky fast. We had a terrible experience with a Denton pizza place and called jimmy johns to deliver replacement dinner. It was delivered crazy fast! The driver was nice and ordering was easy. We ordered two veggie sandwiches wi peppers, one with cheese, and they were both made correctly. The bread and toppings were flavorful and it was a good sandwich. They did charge extra for delivery which was a bummer but we were starving so was ok with it. They are not a gourmet restaurant but if you want a good sandwich, freaky fast, then give them a try. This location in particular is great. Close to the Language and Auditorium building, where I used to have all my classes. I'd have three hour classes and on the breaks we'd sometimes come by and bring it in to class. (Don't tell anyone we were sometimes allowed to eat in class). Or sometimes right around lunch hour, I'd be craving it and head right over. Plus, they deliver. You can't beat that kind of service with other sandwich shops. That is until Domino's started delivering. I kind of wish some of the sandwich shops around me delivered....:-( But compared to other places that may deliver (Quiznos now? Not at a convienent location, and boring.) I'd rather have the good old classic Jimmy John's i've come to love and adore from my days in school. It's healthier too. Not too greasy at all. I've been to a couple of other Jimmy John's around the Dallas area, but no way they beat the vibe around Denton. Something else I have to show restraint to avoid or I'd never fit in a car - this place is AWESOME!!!! I am a huge fan of their bread but combine it with lettuce and tomatoes and provolone =love!!! and of course the freakishly fast service! LOVE Jimmy Johns! They are so quick and speedy! Sometimes, I'll call on my way home for lunch and they'll be pulling up at the same time as me, even though I only work 5 minutes from home! Their prices are about the same as every other location. The quality is likewise the same. There is a small delivery fee and tip for the driver but it's worth the splurge to have sandwiches appear in the middle of the night. If you live near UNT, road construction is a miserable part of life. $20 is two big sandwiches and not breaking my momentum to figure out how to Waze around the current road closures. The drivers are always nice and the customer service when ordering doesn't act annoyed when you don't know what comes on a sandwich. That's a win. read more

Right after I placed my order it was ready. That was really fast and the sub was really good. I wish it was toasted but they don't have toasters. Overall they have good sandwiches. I guess I have high expectations since I'm from jersey but they are super gross and pricey. They don't toast their bread. They don't have spinach. Just super like cafeteria food quality kinda food. This is probably the one place I've been to the most this year, whenever I don't feel like cooking. You can't go wrong with the #13 veggie sandwich on wheat bread. I like the spicy mustard, sprouts and guacamole they add on their sandwitches too, unlike the un-fresh variety of soggy veggies at Subway. The best thing about Jimmy John's is they're open until 3 a.m., so you can always grab a healthy sandwitch after hitting the bars instead of Jack in the Box or Taco Cabana. read more

I was disspointed after realizing I didn't get to customize my sandwich and it was out like that. It's fast because it's basically a factory sandwich. Consistently good for cold sandwiches. They're pretty much the only delivery place on campus and as an office worker I'm limited sometimes with this as an option. They're fast and good. My favorite is the turkey Tom and the Big John. They charge extra for cheese and chips and drink so watch out, it can get really pricey. read more

I absolutely love the Jimmy Johns on Ave A in Denton. The Manager, Ashley, can not be matched. She is kind and welcoming, always has a smile on her face and she some how can remember my sandwich ( unwich) to a T. And let me tell you its not just a basic off the menu sandwich I add things and I'm not in there often, maybe once every 2-3 months I'll stop in. But as soon as I walk in she treats me like an old friend and askes me if I want my " usual" and if maybe I would like it on bread that day. I've been in Denton for a very long time and even worked out at a few of the bars around the corner in the earlier 2000s, I've seen a lot down there. I love sandwiches and I could eat here everyday. They've always had really friendly staff and I've almost never had any issues with the ingredients. Plus their toppings are fresh and delicious. I really have only one complaint. They seem to hire new staff every week so sometimes I have to infrom the maker of what to put on the sandwich in order for them to get it right. But in the case of this happening they've been very easy going and quick to fix the situation. I love the #1 and you should too. read more

My sandwiches have always been fresh and as ordered. The restaurant was clean and spacious for a small group. The staff is polite and knowledgeable of what sandwiches are offered. I would return to purchase more to purchase more sandwiches and is very close to UNT and is very close to UNT which is awesome and convenient. Jimmy Johns has the best cold subs anywhere! The customer service here is good until you get into the parking lot. The parking in this area is crap because of the University, but there is an area for delivery drivers to park, although they consistently take the metered parking anyways, even if the driver area is completely open. If I have nowhere to park then I cannot patronize your store. If it wasn't for the parking I would have given them a 5 star review. read more

I've been to better Jimmy John's. Maybe I'm just unlucky, but I have had problems with my orders here. I always order a #5 to go, and when I get home I find that there is no vinegrett dressing on my sandwich, or once they added mayo to my #5 (which does not have mayo)...and once all the onions were bunched up at one end of the sandwich...and once they just didn't even bother to put onions on it. ughh I'm not going here anymore. read more

I hate to review national chains, but I'm making an exception for Jimmy John's so I can post the following true conversation: So without further ado, I give you "The Time Jimmy John's Sandwiches Kept Me Out Of Jail" It's shortly after 2am and I'm making my way down Hickory St. with my delicious beach club (turkey, sprouts, tomato, avocado, onions and hot peppers on french bread. . .no mayo) and my roommates are enjoying their sandwiches as we head home to do the inevitable (shoot fireworks, play video games and drink 40s of Steel Reserve) when all of a sudden the familiar red and blue flashing lights dot the street. Two cops get out of their cars and I immediately survey my roommates' conditions and depressingly realize I'm going to have to do the talking. Me: Evening sir. Cop 1: Can I see your ID? (I hand him my ID and he collects from everyone else. . .we are all of age. . .advantage ME) Cop 2: Hello son, awfully late for you boys to be walking around out here don't you think? Me: Absolutely, but we drove to the bar and since we just live a couple more blocks down the road we figured we'd be better off walking home instead of driving. Cop 2: Well, that's a good point, but why are you walking down one of the most trafficked roads when there are plenty of others. Me: Well to be honest it was out of fear, sir. Cop 2: Excuse me? Me: Well we tried cutting through campus but security was being a dick so we just figured we'd take this road. . .plus I didn't want to get attacked. . .sexually. Cop 2: What did you just say?! Me: Well I did a sex offender search and the highest concentration of sex offenders in Denton is currently the stretch of apartments between campus and Bonnie Brae. I know I look young and if they've been drinking they might think I look younger. I don't like those odds. Cop 2: Are you kidding me? Are you some kind of wise ass?! (Cop 2 is definitely pissed. . .I realize jail time is almost a certainty) Me: No sir! I am 100% serious, I just wanted to eat my sandwich and walk home in peace! Cop 2: Jimmy John's? Me: Yes sir, beach club, but no mayo. I hate mayo (I figured this might be relevant information if I go to the tank and I'm getting served lunch the next day) Cop 2: I hear ya, and to be honest that's probably the best food you can put in your system right now. You like the roast beef they have? Me: It's OK, that's his favorite (point to roommate grinning like an idiot) Cop 2: OK son, where do you live again? Me: Just right over there (point to complex). I ordered online for them to deliver lunch, the order total of $13 was run on my card, but then an alert came on the computer screen that said there was a problem with it. So I called the store. I explained to Abraham that my card was run and shows on my bank a total of $13, he said "well we don't have an order for you, so that's not my problem" I asked to speak to his manager, it took 5 min for Josh to come to the phone, to which he acted as though he didn't know what the issue was, so I explained it to him. He too said , "its not my fault" but he did offer to call his cc company they use to void the transaction, I asked how long that would take as I am ordering for someone else who needs the order soon. He did not answer me, just asked for my order. I said "hold on let me pull the order back up". He at that point told me that I was being rude(I was frustrated that an $11 sandwich, that's overpriced as it is, was now going to cost me $26) I told him that I am very frustrated at the fact he and his employee both are telling me it isn't "their problem" of course it isn't "their problem" but the customer service level was nonexistent. He didn't offer any sense of willingness to help with the problem, he(Josh)just and his employee(Abraham) were quick to tell me it isn't "their problem" and that is not how you handle an upset customer. read more

I am an adjunct professor at the UNT Denton campus. I have eaten at the Denton Jimmy John's twice a week during the school year for the past 5+years. I always order the same thing (Beach Club #12, chips, cookie, and ice water). Although I too (like many other patrons) was disappointed that they discontinued alfalfa sprouts, i continued to eat here because I do like their subs (and, yes, their service is fast). However, I recently stopped in to get my usual and was told that I had to pay the full price of a soda to get a cup of TAP WATER. This was the first time that I've ever been asked to pay for tap water, which is a truly ridiculous. I don't drink sodas and am obviously not going to be forced to pay almost two dollars for water from the tap. When a loyal customer comes in and spends ten bucks or so on food on a weekly basis, it's not at all an unreasonable request. I eat out 4-5 times per week, and this the only restaurant I've ever been to that is charging soda prices for a cup of tap water. They have a tap water button on their soda machine ---- I mentioned that I've always gotten water from their soda fountain before, and the teenagers who worked there almost treated me like a criminal (like I was going to get a cup and actually fill it up with soda instead of water). I actually even stated that THEY could fill the cup with water for me if that's what would convince them that i actually DID want water. The employees were extremely rude. Yes, I like their sandwiches, but Jimmy John's sandwiches are no better than New York Subway or Subway ---- both of which are on University Dr. near campus, and both of which actually value their customers and treat them respectfully. Neither of the latter two restaurants charge their patrons for frickin TAP WATER (as do none of the other restaurants in Denton, quite frankly). The other caveat about the Denton Jimmy John's that I've overlooked in the past is the fact that they play music so loud that you can't even hear yourself talk let have a conversation with someone across the table. That's why I always got my food to go. Now, in combination with the disrespectful employees and the utterly ridiculous $2 charge for tap water, I will take my business elsewhere. If you're looking for a good sandwich AND good service, I would suggest New York Subway or Subway on University. Probably the best grab-n-go and eat in the car and late night after the bar food. Coming from California, Jimmy John's was new to me when I moved to Denton. I have to say the Italian is pretty tasty, though a little messy in the car, as the oil soaks through the paper. Oh and getting it delivered on that crazy snow day was a nice plus, although it took over 45 minutes because they were making so many runs that night.
