Went to Deli News for a late breakfast/early lunch and was quickly seated. My wife ordered the cinnamon apple pancakes and I went with a Reuben. Service took a little while but the place was fairly busy. My Reuben had a ton of meat and sauerkraut and the poor bread didn't have a chance to contain it. I wasn't a fan of the potato salad. As a former New Yorker now in Texas, you know I had to give this place a shot. The Yelp photo looked promising, and I'm always chasing that deli nostalgia. We stopped in for lunch and were seated quickly...uncrowded and speedy service, which is always a plus. We started with the "everything but the kitchen sink" soup which includes a matzo ball, kreplach, and noodles in one bowl. Heads up: a bowl is massive. Save yourself and go for the cup (which is basically a bowl). We also split the #1 club sandwich consisting of corned beef and pastrami with coleslaw on rye, and a side of Russian dressing. Onion rings were our side of choice. It comes stacked with three slices of bread, and in hindsight, I would've skipped the third slice. Both meats were good, but kind of indistinguishable from one another, and not quite reaching the deli heights of Katz or 2nd Ave Deli (but hey, we're in Texas, not the Lower East Side). Onion rings were the breaded variety which are not my favorite style, but there were lots of them, and we still polished them off. This place needs no introduction. A well known sandwich spot thats won many notable awards. This is my first time stopping in for a pick up order. I had seen an IG post of the ABC on onion roll. I ordered that exactly. The sandwich did not disappoint. Every bit as delicious as it looks. While the price of sandwich and side was as hefty as the sandwich itself, the quality is very noteworthy. Closest thing to a NYC deli/sandwich shop. Pastrami w//seeded rye, Swiss & mustard passed the test. Some ny style deli's don't even offer rye nor Swiss cheese. The decor takes you back to the 70's & 80's. They could put on some music, maybe the Oldies channel. It's a no frills place. If you can't afford a $25 good sandwich, don't go there and bitch about it. Potato salad- standard, but that's a typical potato salad. Maybe your mom makes a better one. read more

I remember when Deli News was at Hillcrest in Arapaho. It was great then. It's even better now. I've been eating there since they moved to Dallas. I always get the corn beef sandwich on rye bread and they have never failed me. I eat their regularly and enjoy it. Invite friends there when they come in from out of town. This is an amazing experience and it is very popular. I love to look at all of the cream cheese schmears behind the counter as well as the huge smoked salmon fillets....YUMMO! The reuben was served New York Style (open face and piled high). It was so delicious with the pastrami I requested. The side of potato salad was very clean tasting and super creamy. I stopped in for the first time today around 2:30 PM. But the staff walked by without as much as a nod to acknowledge my presence. I looked at the menu board; the prices didn't bother me--you pay for what you want. No one asked if I needed help, so I left. Maybe I didn't fit their regular customer base. As a transplant from the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles - a largely Jewish Population - I grew up with Deli's on every Street Corner. Thus, i was spoiled. And wondering if I would every find a comparable Deli. Thankfully, I found one - Deli News. There are three things that differentiate a TRUE New York (Jewish) Deli: 1 - Employees who STAY. In point of fact, several Generations of Staff have - and still do - work there. 2 - A Waiter (or Waitress) who KNOWS the Menu, inside and out. After all, if I need a Menu in a Deli, then that's not a Deli. 3 - Food Quality that is "second to none". Deli News has this, in spades. Put simply, it IS the Best New York (Jewish) Deli in Dallas. I am writing for my mom because she older and doesn't use yelp. This is her experience. My mom and her mom went to Deli News, off Preston Rd and Campbell Rd. They were severely overcharged for bacon, eggs and potatoes, she was charged $18 total, the bacon was extra and cost $5.99, the meal was originally priced at $12. And my mom's bacon was burnt. They never came to check on them. The waiter seemed to not care or apologize. Mom also had to chase them down for change. It is also ridiculous they have 3% fee for debit or credit. December 2024 Enjoyed a nice lunch here with some colleagues on a recent trip to Dallas. I shared a Ruben ($19.95) and it was more than enough to share. It comes with your choice of a variety of different sides. I chose the onion rings and they were better than average. There were a few tables free the whole time we there and I did not see people waiting. Ambiance (5/5): Crusty in the best way. There's some New York attitude here. I really used to like this place but haven't been in for a few years. Wow, has this place gone downhill. A two-egg ham and cheese omelette runs $20. This consist of two pieces of luncheon meat diced up and sandwiched inside way overcooked eggs with two pieces of cheap American cheese laid on top. Pancakes and bacon $ 20 also. The total on the website is $18 but when the guy rang it up it was $23 before tax. He said that's the cost, so I was at least expecting some nice sides or special. I have had pea soup from deli is more times than I can count, but what I got today was hardly recognizable. I will never order it again. What amounts to a small bowl of pea soup for $9.99 less thin, greasy, and had no creamy element to it at all. I know how to make great piece soup and I know exactly how much it cost to make it so in the future for $9.99 I can make a pot a piece of multiple times during the winter and it will be wonderful and creamy just the way that pea soup is supposed to be. After all the wonderful meals I've had at deli news. I have to say that this was completely disappointing. So I'm sure at some point we will be back for some chopped liver and delicious bagels, maybe a black and white cookie but if this is an indication of what has happened, it breaks my heart to see what is always been a great Dallas tradition go downhill like this. Might have been my issue since I got my order "to go" as the experience may have been better had I eaten in. Upon entering, I was intrigued by the atmosphere and menu which looks like the real deal. I ordered the Reuben based on a recommendation along with onion rings. At over $20, the bag was very heavy! When I got back to my office less than ten minutes later and opened it up, the sandwich was very tightly wrapped in foil. Opening it up, I noticed the very small pieces of now rather soggy bread. It's my understanding from other reviews that if eaten there, it may be served open faced and possibly be even cheaper. ‍ The taste of the meat was good. The onion rings left a lot to be desired; I've had much better even from Sonic. My review is based on a single, "to go" visit.
