Every year during lobster season in the Florida Keys, we make it a point to stop here--usually on a Tuesday or Wednesday. It's become one of our favorite traditions. The scenery is exactly what you'd expect in the Keys: beautiful waterfront views and a laid-back island atmosphere. Our main focus is always the cocktails, and my absolute favorite is the Key Lime Colada. It's a must-order every single visit! I'm a huge piña colada fan and have never really been much of a Key lime pie person, but somehow the combination of the two is absolutely amazing. The vibe here is super relaxed. We've arrived both by boat and by car, and no matter how we get here, it's always one of our first stops. On our very first visit, we paid for a day pass to use the pool, but the prices have gone up quite a bit over the years, so we usually skip that now. They often have live music, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and the smell of the stone-fired pizzas hits you the moment you walk inside. The indoor space is surprisingly large, and there's also a small gift shop where you can pick up a T-shirt or souvenir to remember your trip. If you're heading to the Florida Keys, I definitely recommend adding this place to your itinerary. Second time here but a drastic change in the live music. Packed outside bar with 80's Miami theme live music. Watched for a bit and got right up to the stage but definitely not my scene and closes way too early at 10pm. The pizzas coming out of the oven looked amazing. No doubt the music next door at The Caribbean Club ranked much higher with a relaxing vibe. read more

We were doing a little bar tour of the Florida Keys and the Bug Chill was one of our stop. the view was beautiful and the bar tender was on point he even snapped our pic for us. we didn't eat but the food looked delicious from what i saw. I also saw you can pay to use the pool for 25 bucks a day. maybe next time we are down south we will give that a try since it looks like a fun spot read more

We always visit the big chill when we come to key largo! The peel and eat shrimp is a must! We also got a large cheese pizza and it was so good. I got a hamburger and it was cooked to perfection. They always have music and the sunsets are gorgeous.... It really has the vibe! The service is polite and helpful, not the speediest but you are on island time! read more

Not sure what happened to Jimmy Johnson's Big Chill but the live music was really bad tonight and not the Jimmy buffet Key West or rock and roll sounds that I was used to. They do have crazy good pizza with some drink specials at the big tiki hut. Did not spend a lot of time here on this visit but may try again next time. read more

We drove down from miami to have a nice fish sandwich in the Keys. Jimmy Johnson's looked like a great choice, and it was!! We got there right at opening time on Sunday, hoping to avoid a crowd and it turned out to be just perfect... they even welcome dogs on the open patio/decks with a perfect view over the water. Fun times at the big chill Tiki Bar on the water in Key Largo where we enjoyed a rum bucket drink , which was a fun presentation, but more of a sweet party juice drink. The perfect margarita however was excellent with a Tajin rim & patron floater. Also enjoyed the full order of peel & eat shrimp which were perfectly seasoned and so tender with a delicious cocktail sauce as well as half dozen oysters. I ordered the grouper after asking what the fresh catch of the day was. When the plate arrived, several flies immediately gathered around the fish. I ate part of it before noticing that the smell and taste were not right. It had a sour, spoiled flavor, so I stopped eating and sent it back. Once the plate was removed, the flies were gone. Based on the condition of the fish, the meal was disappointing, and I left concerned about the quality of what was served. I hope I don't die. read more

The servers were really nice so this review is not directed towards them. We just found the food itself to be okay as well as the establishment itself. We don't know how busy it gets during the weekend but on the weekday it seems sort of empty. Pizza was just okay... I would have preferred dominos if I'm being honest. Also we were one of multiple parties who started to get AOT survey corps style attacked by the flies. They were moving around us like they were Levi and Mikasa. We had to ask to move inside cause we couldn't eat comfortably outside. read more

I would have to say that this place has the most incredible Shrimp Scampi I have ever tasted. It melts in your mouth and will have you sounding like a native in minutes. As for the Rum buckets I asked the guy for a drink that would numb your face and he did not lie. I highly recommend this place to anyone. read more

We went for lunch on a Saturday and it was pretty empty. The server was very nice and checked on us a few times but they definitely need more staff as our waiter was running around covering tables inside and outside. We had the fried calamari to start, which wasn't anything out of this world but it was served hot. The fried mahi mahi was dry and over cooked. The fried shrimp was good, the shrimp pieces were large. We also tried the Hawaiian pizza which was made fresh but the pineapple topping came from a can so that was disappointing. read more

Stopped at Jimmy Johnson's Big Chill with my friend Jack on our way to Key West thinking we were about to enjoy good food, good vibes, and an easy road trip. What we got instead was a gastrointestinal thriller that nearly changed the course of our lives. About 37 minutes after leaving the restaurant, Jack went eerily silent. No music. No jokes. Just pure fear in his eyes as he whispered, "You need to pull over. NOW." What followed can only be described as a Category 5 emergency evacuation on the side of US-1. There were no restrooms. No gas stations. No hope. In a moment of pure survival instinct, Jack sacrificed TWO socks and a cloth face mask to make it through the incident. I watched a grown man stare at the ocean afterward like a Vietnam veteran reflecting on war. To make matters worse, we still had over an hour left to Key West and had to ride with the windows down while Jack sat in silence wearing shoes with no socks and absolutely no dignity. The food tasted good at the time, but if your meal ends with your friend using pandemic PPE as emergency toilet paper in the Florida Keys wilderness... was it really worth it? Would I come back? Maybe. Would Jack? He's still emotionally processing the event. read more

I left my purse at the restaurant on a busy Friday night, didn't think it was going to be found, but called hoping for the best... The food was spot on, it was timely tasted good and was fresh. We had chicken parm sub and pasta, shrimp with pasta, chicken Alfredo, a kids chicken tender and artichoke dip. The waitress was friendly and attentive. It did get busy so a few other people stepped up to help. The atmosphere was pretty. We sat outside on the patio where it over looked the water. There's a boat dock so you can park your boat and get food, a small sand area, a tiki bar and a sports bar. The sports bar area was lively and fun! The menus smelled so bad I think they need to change the water/ cloth they are using to wipe them down. I didn't like the fries and I noticed there was trash (menus & napkins) in the water. We stopped in here for dinner while vacationing in the Keys with a group of six. Our server was friendly, upbeat, and well-versed in the menu, which made for a pleasant start to the evening. We shared the nachos as an appetizer, and those were a hit--crispy, flavorful, and perfect for the table. Unfortunately, that momentum didn't quite carry through to the entrées. I ordered the Caribbean Snapper, which had potential but ended up slightly overcooked and on the dry side. The rice on the side didn't add much--it tasted like it had been reheated and lacked seasoning or texture. Others in our group felt similarly about their dishes: decent, but underwhelming for the price point. Overall, the experience was good but not memorable. With so many standout spots in the Keys, especially for fresh seafood, we'd probably try somewhere else next time. read more
