We attended Jimmy Mac's as an alternative to an expensive and well known steak restaurant. I could not have been more impressed with the level of service and quality of food. Our waitress, Kristen, was an absolute delight and I could not have asked for a more perfect evening. Chris was the chef of the evening and the steak I ordered was made to perfection! The trout was the best fish I have had in years! My experience was made special thanks to Kristen and her amazing personality! If you are in the area, I highly recommend Jimmy Mac's!

This is where you go after there is no way you can get into The Bistro or the Fryemont Inn due to the crowds. It was still a half hour or more of a wait for a table but once seated, the service was fine. I had the fried oysters and a ribeye steak with a baked potato. It was ok, the steak a bit tough and overcooked, and, sure, I was glad I could somehow manage to get in somewhere for dinner, but it sure wasn't anything to write home about. The ambiance was where diner meets restaurant , somewhat brightly lit and basic. Wouldn't necessarily go again unless forced by similar situation.

Just travelling through, 6 of us on motorcycles, we were encouraged by the crowd inside. Bryson City is small town. A musician named Joe plays guitar and sings soft folk music. Nice touch! I've got to say, I was turned off when I saw the sign at the hostess stand blaming government handouts for the lack of hard workers on the slow service we might be receiving. I had to remind myself where I was... The waitress was very friendly and recommended several dishes. I ordered the Hawaiian Burger. Everyone else had burgers as well, except my partner. He went with the suggested Grouper Sandwich. Food was delivered from the kitchen quickly. The main complaint from all of us was lack of flavor. The grouper was delicious, on it's own, with a little salt and pepper. We all came to the conclusion that it was the bread that detracted from the overall meals. Big cold flavorless bun. Too much! The applesauce got high praise and the sweet potato fries were great! Prices were decent, atmosphere was pleasant. A few tweaks and a silent stance on politics would have warranted more stars.

Breakfast was really good, made from scratch. Friendly staff, fast service. Wished they offered grits, but otherwise no complaints!

Built in 1920, it is a throw back to another era. Wooden walls created from lumber from the smokies. Beautiful lobby and grounds that make you seem miles away from Byson City. When you are actually blocks away from the cutest town in North Carolina. We are treated like family, welcomed in the dining room and treated like family, in general. Since my husband and I seek out "restored historical bed and breakfasts or Inns" this is one of our favorites. Dinner and Breakfast are included with your stay. These meals are not the kind you find at a regular motel; these are cooked to order meals. Fruit, eggs, potatoes, grits, country ham, etc for breakfast and for dinner, oh wow. I have had lamb shank each time I have eaten here, and it is wonderful. One night I had prime rib, and I could cut it with a bread knife. My only regret is this. In the 40's and 30's trains used to bring people in to stay at the INN. The INN had a band and dancing, and people dressed up like a Bing Crosby movie. Every time I stay there, I feel that atmosphere. Sorry, no band. How do I know so much about the Fryemont? I read the walls and books of letters, menus and other such documentation that line the walls. One more thing, there is a small bar, and the bar tender looks, and I think acts like Bobby Knight. If you don't order your drink quickly enough, he might throw a chair at you. Kidding, he is good fun..

Food is cheap and of very poor quality and the bar only serves the cheapest liquor. A financial injection and serious overhaul is what this place needs, but the way it looks is that it will continue to do business until it can't do business no more and I suspect that once that happens will close forever. Our meal was perhaps the worst meal I had, maybe ever. Sadly cooked frozen veg, canned soup and potato pearls turned mash. Nursing home grub. Which was also the feel of the dining room, an old decrepit nursing home. Despite the nostalgic feelings this place evokes, I would eat and sleep somewhere else. I'm sorry but there's just no need to lie.

It's inviting, intimate, and thoughtfully designed. This is a great spot for a date night or a dinner with family. That said, the overall vibe leans more toward a romantic evening setting than a kid-focused restaurant. It's the kind of place you take your wife for a nice night out or bring someone on a first date when you want to make a solid impression. When we arrived, we were seated quickly. The restaurant was about half full, yet it maintained a calm, relaxed energy. It wasn't loud at all, which made conversation easy and enjoyable -- something that's becoming rare in many dining spots. Our waiter was extremely helpful and genuinely kind. He answered every question thoroughly and spoke very positively about both the food and the restaurant overall. You could tell he believed in what they were serving, and that confidence matters. The only real drawback for me was that the desserts weren't made in-house. For a restaurant with such a strong, authentic feel, house-made desserts would have elevated the experience even more. For my entrée, I ordered the chicken cordon bleu with salad and pasta topped with marinara. The dish was good, but if I'm being completely honest, I felt it needed more seasoning. When I eat Italian food, I want bold flavor -- I want to get hit with basil, garlic, herbs, and depth. The seasoning felt a little light, and that was the main thing missing for me. Outside of that, the meal was enjoyable. One thing I truly appreciated was that the owner personally walked around checking on guests and asking how everything was. That's a touch many restaurants could learn from. It makes people feel valued and welcomed -- like family. And that hospitality element is something they absolutely got right. Overall, I think this is a place most people should try if they haven't already. It delivers a warm atmosphere, solid service, and a dining experience that feels personal. I'll definitely be back.

I can imagine you may need to walk a bit depending on how busy the downtown area is, but that would be true for any business in the area. The ordering counter is right in front as you walk in with all seating on the left. Once you place your order they assign you to a table and will bring out your food when ready. We did not realize we entered 15 minutes before they closed. We were originally going to eat there but when we said we would change our order to to-go, they said it was not necessary and we could eat there. They did take down the outside signs soon after we sat down, but we were not the last person entering to place an order. There were also a few others eating inside, so they were more than accommodating to their customers. The Cuban sandwich and NY-style hot dog came out in about five minutes. The Cuban was a bit on the small side but did have a nice amount of ham. The large amount of pickles drowned out the majority of other flavors but the overall the sandwich was good. The NY-style hot dog was a major disappointment. The hot dog itself seemed to have been sitting in the warmer for quite a while as it looked dehydrated and wrinkly. It was chewy with an almost crispy casing. The hot dog did fit the bun but was overwhelmed by the sauerkraut and mustard. Unfortunately, the quality of the food did not live up to the friendliness and accommodation of the staff.
