Called in a to-go order, arrived and it wasn't started. Ordered chicken wings in BBQ sauce, fries; kid's cheeseburger with fries; and I got the chicken sandwich with bleu cheese and bacon, and my side should have been sweet potato fries. Get back to the cabin and I was given both regular and sweet potatoes fries, so unsure if I was charged for an extra side, wings not sauced (in the trash), but the chicken sandwich was great, and my 9-year-old granddaughter wanted to get another kid's burger yesterday! When the rest of my party wanted food, I told them how my order had gone, but the choices here are limited partly because it's a small area, and many close by 6:00. They ordered chicken Alfredo (I was supposed to ask for it to be blackened, oops), the elk burger, and a kid's cheeseburger for the one whose wings were not sauced. My daughter thought the Alfredo was okay, but I did forget to say blackened, and that might have helped her opinion that her food was poorly seasoned. The ranch dressing she thought was house made and said it was very good. The person who had the elk burger was pleased and said he'd get it again, but didn't like the slaw. Honestly, my sandwich was delicious. It was so big, I really didn't need a side, and same for the elk burger. Both my granddaughters really enjoyed the cheeseburgers. We attended Jimmy Mac's as an alternative to an expensive and well known steak restaurant. I could not have been more impressed with the level of service and quality of food. Our waitress, Kristen, was an absolute delight and I could not have asked for a more perfect evening. Chris was the chef of the evening and the steak I ordered was made to perfection! This place was such a disappointment. My husband is from Bryson and now I know why every time I told him I wanted to try it, he said no. This time he gave in and came. It started out fine, we were the only customers in there aside from a gentleman that was eating already in the back that I thought was a worker. Our total bill was $74 NOT including a tip. Now typically we don't ever leave nothing for a tip, but this was pure disgusting. We ordered the grilled chicken breast LUNCH portion ($16) and the Cajun burger ($14). Our children did not even like what they got for $9 a piece. We had ordered well before another couple came inside and sat down, they ordered and got their food long before ours came out. At this point it was an hour since the server (Amber) took our order (She was friendly to us and we had no complaints on her). Our food came out COLD and tough aside from my daughter's Alfredo pasta. The photo posted is the lunch portion of the grilled chicken that I ordered. My son's grilled chicken meal was $9 and came with TWO sides; more than a normal lunch portion for more. I had cut a sliver off of the chicken breast before taking this photo but this was about the portion you get. The restaurant had a weird smell to it almost as if it was infested with roaches at one point. The health department score card was not anywhere to be found either. This is where you go after there is no way you can get into The Bistro or the Fryemont Inn due to the crowds. It was still a half hour or more of a wait for a table but once seated, the service was fine. I had the fried oysters and a ribeye steak with a baked potato. It was ok, the steak a bit tough and overcooked, and, sure, I was glad I could somehow manage to get in somewhere for dinner, but it sure wasn't anything to write home about. One of the best in Bryson City. Both the food and service were impeccable. Our server, Reba, was awesome. Her dinner suggestions were spot on. One of the worst meals I have ever eaten. They were out of 6 or 7 different menu items. I ordered a Bryson burger. It came out between two slices of wheat bread (they were out of burger buns also). The burger was over cooked and very dry. My girlfriend ordered a shrimp poboy. That came on a hoggie roll with 5 small shrimp on it!! The bill came to $32.10!!! Just travelling through, 6 of us on motorcycles, we were encouraged by the crowd inside. Bryson City is small town. A musician named Joe plays guitar and sings soft folk music. Nice touch! I've got to say, I was turned off when I saw the sign at the hostess stand blaming government handouts for the lack of hard workers on the slow service we might be receiving. I had to remind myself where I was... The waitress was very friendly and recommended several dishes. I ordered the Hawaiian Burger. Everyone else had burgers as well, except my partner. He went with the suggested Grouper Sandwich. Food was delivered from the kitchen quickly. The main complaint from all of us was lack of flavor. The grouper was delicious, on it's own, with a little salt and pepper. We all came to the conclusion that it was the bread that detracted from the overall meals. Big cold flavorless bun. Too much! The applesauce got high praise and the sweet potato fries were great! Prices were decent, atmosphere was pleasant. However, it was a very thin breast - maybe a small breast pounded out. A little overdone, which made it seem a little dry. A big bugaboo with me is their on line menu. y'all, this is my favorite restaurant ever!! the food is just way too good. i live far away; but i think about this burger often and it's just as amazing every time i get to visit!! highly recommend getting cheddar on your burger, it's unlike anywhere else's. they will cook it to any rarity you like, personally i like mine still pink in the center. their homemade chips are also amazing and any seafood is sure to be a winner. it's a small, hometown restaurant with a lot of charm. the staff is amazing and does their best to keep service as quick and as good as possible. they tell you upfront that they're not a fast food establishment- they care about taking time to make the food stellar, and i totally respect that! it was a busy sunday lunch today, and i still got my food quite quickly. today, there was even a local musician playing some light music. all around lovely vibes and i visit every chance i can! read more

Jimmy Mac's has both good and bad qualities that leaves you a bit confused whether you had a good time or settled for an average meal. We stopped in here whilst exploring Bryson City seeing it's been open since the 70s and figured that was a good sign of their business. The establishment is generally friendly and inviting, and the menu quite large. Half of us ordered the trout and the other half a salad and their ham sandwich. The trout was very delicious and fulfilling, but the ham sandwiches (both of which had the loaf nubs as the bread) looked thrown together and quite unappealing (weren't able to be finished). The server was extremely nice and attentive, but it took us an hour to get two grilled fish and two sorry-looking ham sandwiches. They may have been short staffed this day, but there was hardly anyone in at the time we went. Overall, this place is a decent spot to grab a bite at the expense the place feels like it knows it's good but can't decide how good it wants to be. I'd recommend but wouldn't rush back. read more

I enjoyed my blackened chicken pasta and my husband enjoyed his ribeye. It was some of the best Alfredo I've ever had. Our waitress was very good. The only thing I think they need to work on is the host stand when people come in. The place is very small and when they get a crowd, I think it's hard to manage. We were there on a holiday weekend, so we understand it can get hectic. We didn't see a manager and there was no one walking the tables to check on people, so that would have been nice to see. There was a long wait to be seated and no stationed hostess so waitstaff ignored customers as they came in. The restaurant is outdated and in need of some upgrades to its interior. The food was excellent. The salads with our dinners had homemade dressing and tasted good. We ordered one sirloin steak and one filet mignon both medium well one prepared with salt and pepper and one with salt and pepper then smothered in mushrooms and sautéed onions, both were tender and delicious. The accompaniments were a baked potato that was light, fluffy and creamy, and a side of french fries that were crisp and cooked perfectly. We were full after that we skipped getting dessert. Well I never got to try the food. Stopped in on a trip to the area thinking it was a nice local spot. 1 waitress looked like she was trying to put out fires, it was not that busy though, all the other waitresses were walking back and forth ignoring the customers. The 1 working waitress was changing out multiple tickets like the people had been there a while and she was just getting caught up. There were 2 tables sitting that appeared to have not even drinks yet. I really wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt so we waited a little longer. The working waitress finally took us to a table after maybe 15 minutes of being ignored. We sat another 20 minutes with no one coming to the table. I heard the table behind us discussing if they should just go to Bojangles because they had not been acknowledged either (they had been there when we arrived). I saw one waitress go sit at an empty table looking at her ticket book even though I hadn't seen her greet anyone much less take any orders. The atmosphere just felt horrible. The waitresses were arguing over whose turn it was to take a table. No one would just come over to any of the 3-4 tables waiting for service. All the other people in the restaurant appeared to be finished eating waiting on checks. It felt like there was a power struggle among the waitresses like they didn't want to be there. The table behind us left. More people were arriving and the working waitress was trying to find tables. She asked another waitress what happened to the table behind. No one knew they had walked out even though they were all in the dining area. We finally walked out and went to Native Brews down the way and it was amazing. So glad we left! The menu didn't look that great anyway and multiple items were listed as out on the sign at the door. All I could think was Gordon Ramsey needs to come in and gut this place and rebuild something more organized and welcoming. By the way there appeared to be 5 waitresses for this small place... and only one actually trying to attend to guests. I have worked as a waitress... I know what busy looks like. 5 waitresses should have been able to handle these tables easily. So frustrating. If you don't want to work or have food available why even be open? Waste of my time. Also of note I am from a small town and have been to and worked at small town restaurants... this is not it! Please stop selling that BS to people. read more

Went on Valentine's Day for lunch with my parents. We all liked our food. I had the fried trout filet, another had a cheeseburger and one of us had grilled catfish. Came with vegetable medley of onions, tomatoes, zucchini and squash. It was cold in the restaurant so bring a sweater or be prepared to keep your coat on. However, we didn't have a huge wait time so it wasn't terrible. The place wasn't packed but it took a second for the server to come to get our drink order. I looked at multiple reviews and recommendations on Yelp before we decided on coming here. Even after we ordered our meals, I feel the wait time should have been shorter. At the table was: Combo dinner shrimp & catfish w/ fries and slaw Cajun grouper dinner Shrimp Alfredo Kids spaghetti Stuffed shrimp meal The shrimp were very big, so was the catfish. I was impressed by the portion. The coleslaw was delicious and crunchy. The shrimp and fish dinner didn't have much flavor outside of the batter that was used. The Cajun grouper however was perfectly seasoned, but very small in comparison to the size of the catfish I received. My husband said his rice seemed either old or under cooked. Either way, the grains of rice were hard. My daughter enjoyed her Alfredo, it was the perfect portion too. Where the marked was missed was the stuffed shrimp. My son took one bite and didn't want to finish it. It was bland sitting in a scampi style bowl with not much flavor outside of the pool of butter. If I went to Bryson again, I probably wouldn't go back here. Not that it was terrible, but I'm sure other restaurants have more flavorful plates to offer. read more

While in town for a few days we were looking for a good place with home style food for dinner and people we'd met recommended Jimmy Mac's. Located in the heart of downtown BC, it's an older building but it's very well kept inside. The staff was friendly and welcoming and the food was tasty. I had the Cajun Catfish and Shrimp and my husband had the grilled chicken and shrimp. Although my dish was a little too greasy (it's deep fried), it was seasoned well and tasty. My husband's dish was very good. The service was a little slow, but they may be short staffed and on a Friday night it was very crowded. There's live music on the weekend as well, so that's a plus, too. If you're in town, give them a try! read more
