We usually get Jimmy's for our catered work lunches, but it's definitely the best BBQ I've had in the North Wilmington-West Chester-Malvern area. Great pulled pork, brisket, and smoked wings although my favorite Jimmy's menu items might be the cornbread and spicy vinegar sauce. At the restaurant, it's a little pricey and the lunch wait can be a little long due to the crowd, so get there early. read more

In a word, YUM!!! Stumbled across Jimmy's BBQ on restaurant.com and figured we'd give it a try. My husband and I are by no means BBQ connoisseurs, but we have traveled to many excellent BBQ places around the country and, after watching ridiculous amounts of Food Network, are well-studied in what good BBQ SHOULD be. Jimmy's hits the mark on all points. The ribs are from some dinosaur sized animal (REALLY large pig) and are fall off the bone tender. All of my bones were easily wiped clean after eating them. The brisket was out of this world - between the bark and the super tender and juicy meat, that brisket is an A+ in my book. The rest of the food (I'm drooling as I type this) is just as outstanding. We met Jimmy this time around and got to talking about his dry rub and how/with what he smokes the meats. The simplicity of the entire operation - the dry rub, the smoker, the wood - is what makes this place so good. Yes, you could easily drive by this place if you don't know what you're looking for, but it is TOTALLY worth looking for! We usually pick up a family pack with some add ons and have food for a week. Just when I thought this BBQ couldn't possibly get better, Jimmy added smoked salmon to his menu and I tasted it (Just ask for a taste and you'll get it!) and I was SOLD!! I decided to make a return trip last evening and ended up quite disappointed. The ribs were not as meaty as on my previous visit. Even the bacon, which is what I was REALLY looking forward to, didn't have the intense smoke flavor I remembered. For sides, I chose baked beans and collard greens. The baked beans were a thumbs in the middle although there was nothing that even gave me an indication they were made in house as opposed to canned. But let me give you all a warning: DO NOT ORDER THE COLLARD GREENS. There wasn't a single solitary shard of turkey, no taste of broth, no taste of vinegar, no taste of heat, no taste period. An absolute disgrace. The only flavor I could discern was a hint of sweetness. Sweet collard greens? Don't ask. I have no idea. Jimmy's has been open a few years now so clearly they must be doing something right. I'm sure it's easy for restaurant owners to dismiss negative Yelp reviews but if you read through these reviews, two constants emerge: a lack of flavor and inconsistency. I've not been to eat in. I can only speak on behalf of the quality of BBQ since its a company favorite to have delivered. At least once a week someone in my office makes the run, and I've jumped on board several times. The corn bread is good. The mac and cheese is good. The brisket is very good, yummy but not in that classic texas brisket kinda way. I wouldn't recommend the pulled pork. The BBQ sauce.. Tastes like it came from a bottle. I was sad, having lived in the south for a large portion of my life, I'm hard pressed to find good bbq above the mason dixon line. So yes, it is "bbq" but its the equivalent of a philly cheese steak in california. The idea is good, the construction is ok, but its just not... right.. so Jimmy's I'm sorry does not live up to my standard for bbq. Does it mean the foods bad, nah. 1/29 - In search of comfort food during the winter months, this is a good spot. It was tasty. The half rack was tasty and meaty. I would compare them to the ribs that you buy at Costco, which are the best. They are a bit stingy with the barbecue sauce so be sure to ask for an extra container. Ribs this big need sauce. 1/6 - They were really good so I went back for a round 2. Someone was a bit heavy handed with pepper on the full rack and collard greens. I'm by no means am I an expert on BBQ, but this place that I have visited a few times now, is a refreshing change of pace from the all too familiar cuisine in this area. Me and my buddy's have been working the slaveyard shift all week and after 3 nights of wawa and a night of Chinese from wabi sabi I found Jimmy's here on yelp and we decided to give it a whirl. After reading tips and reviews the bacon seemed like a must. On the phone I asked how many pieces of bacon came in an order and the man on the phone who I assume was jimmy, informed me it was chopped bacon and not strips. Anyhow, me an associate got the pulled pork which was dry rubbed (vinegar is my favorite but I enjoy any pulled pork so long as it is tasty). The flavor of the pork was a tad bland for myself but it was perfectly cooked, nice moisture and very tender. For sides I got the angry corn, Mac and cheese and the bacon. The angry corn as mentioned was hardly angry, I expected angry in the for of spices, not in the for of strong onions. The Mac was very good, I'd give it a 4/5 and the bacon just wasn't what I expected. I've never had barbecue style bacon so that might have been the cause of my disappointed. Another associate got the full wings and he enjoyed them. Cooked well, tender and had good flavor. It came with a sweet BBQ sauce and he requested hot BBQ sauce as well which he enjoyed. My last associate got pulled chicken which he said was very good; moist, flavorful and the BBQ sauce worked well with it. He's a picky eater so this is the hugest honor coming from him. Lastly the slaw was too strong with vinegar or some other flavor and the cornbread was delicious. The perfect staple to good barbecue. I would recommend Jimmy's for their pork, wings or chicken. While I don't like bizarre flavor combinations that overshadow the meat, the dry rib here was just too minimalist. The pulled pork worked better thanks to some nicely charred bits that provided textural diversity. The "dirty corn" was too clean, with a smattering of celery and onion but much else. read more

This weekends shenanigans took us up to Malvern, PA (30 minutes outside of philly) to a BBQ spot @jimmysbbq ..Been standing strong for 12 years and counting and I can tell you why..MAAAAAN! THIS BBQ RIGHT HERE!!! Absolute fire ..You know a place is good when they rolls of paper towels on the table, NO NAPKINS! Soon as you walk in that authentic BBQ smell hits you! (Real BBQers know what i mean) Ordered the spicy pulled chicken, brisket, ribs, and all the sides a true BBQ is suppose to have..You can tell when Love has been put into the work!! It definitely showed. The meats were smoked perfectly with the balanced flavors of the cherry wood and hickery..i took 1 bite and had to do a lap around the place..YES! That good..the sides were just as good..smoked beans, cornbread, slaw will all leave you speechless..then i went completely mute and couldn't hear anything when i tried the BBQ sauces ...if I could explain it in a few words...OUT OF BODY EXPERIENCE!!! I had to juice them up a bit with the sauces (which were alright). The chorizo was tasty but also a bit dry. The goods: unsweetened iced tea, friendly counter service. Love this restaurant! They recently catered our graduation party, and the food was incredible! They were prompt and friendly with great service. We ordered brisket, pulled pork (melts in your mouth), chicken legs, collard greens and beans. We received so many compliments from our guests for the food! Also have been enjoying our leftovers. While some folks like to order sandwiches such as the pulled pork, I measure a BBQ joint by its mastery of meat-on-the-bone. Be it pork or beef ribs or even the chicken, meat has the most flavor and juices when cooked and served on the bone. At Jimmy's I ordered a 2-meat combo that included a half-rack of huge pork ribs and a full chicken leg (thigh and drum). It came with a choice of two sides. I selected the mac-n-cheese and the collard greens, reluctantly passing up the whipped sweet potatoes. I thought the counter service was friendly, and the food came fast enough. It was not cheap! $17 for my platter and sides (however, there was enough left over for another meal). The collards were nicely seasoned with hot spice, but they were more bitter than normal. Did not enjoy them. Mac'n'cheese was creamy and tasty, I ate it all. The chicken was fair. I think it was a tad overcooked, it was not juicy or greasy. The ribs were very good. Huge, meaty, juicy, with great flavor on their own and great sauces on the side. A fellow diner noted "I grew up on pulled pork BBQ in and around Memphis, Tennessee, so my frame of reference is defined by the predominate style in that area. The pulled pork at Jimmy's tasted good, but was slightly dry, due primarily to the fact that the meat was shredded more than it should have been. Leaving more of the meat in small chunks might help. The "hot" table sauce was only mild, in my opinion. That being said, I give it a 7/10. I will definitely return, although I might opt for the ribs next time. They looked mighty good." For me, Tommy Gunn's in Manyunk sets the standard for BBQ. JImmy's was good, but well short of the sublime BBQ experience at Tommy Gunn's. This is my favorite place in town and considering we're north of the Mason/Dixon Line, it is a positive. I love their hot sausage, ribs and pulled pork and agree with several people that the puled pork is a little dry and the sausage is not too spicy although people around here might think it is. I just started trying the ribs and they were delicious and meaty and have a nice smoked flavor. They also have these kick ass spices and seasonings that you can put on your pulled pork, brisket or sausage to add a little kick and the employees are quite friendly and go out of their way to make it a rewarding dining experience. You'll definitely see my face at this place unless the prices get crazy or the food takes a nosedive but I think this place definitely shines over Mabel's & Bull Durhams! read more

Loved Jimmy's BBQ! Had the pulled pork sandwich, which came FULL of pulled pork. It was so overstuffed that I kept having to push some of the pork back in. It came with a side of coleslaw which was perfectly sweet and a great side to the sandwich. I took only one star off because I found the pulled pork to be somewhat dry. Though that isn't really a problem thanks to the three BBQ sauces (Sweet + Bold, Vinegar, and Hot) that were on each table (my favorites are the Vinegar and the Hot).
