Honestly, I'm so glad I tried something new after a long while of getting bored of the same-old same-old. I literally typed "food" into my Maps app and selected the takeout filter, and this little place managed to pop-up among the options. I don't usually go out of my way for hot dogs, so I haven't had one in a pretty long time. I made my way over during the Friday noon lunch rush and was a bit out of my element of what I wanted, but the woman taking my order at the counter was very sweet and patient. I walked out in maybe less than 5 minutes with a jumbo dog with everything on it and an order of mozzarella sticks. Talk about feeling special: the sticks came with hot marinara sauce, which was perfect for the windy, cool weather we were having that day. The sticks still had that wonderful pull of the mozzarella cheese as I ate them - delicious! The only drawback was that the bun was falling apart when I got to my hot dog. It's a real disappointment when you've got such a stacked dog you have to get through without getting it all over yourself! What caught my eye driving down Broadway was the bright red and yellow "Vienna Beef" patio shades, which had me wondering, "Hmm... hole in the wall, usually the best places to try are." So I mentioned to my handsome husband I was hungry and that was the end of my curiosity and in we went with my nephew in tow. First things first, this place is SMALL. Only a few tables inside and a few seats outside, which in the summer in Phoenix, if you do seat outside, I can only assume you're from Mars... or maybe Yuma. Anyway, that being said, the line gets long, thankfully the employees work fast to get everyone ordered, fed and out the door, but the crowd inside can be a bit much so if you have some hardcore claustrophobia, maybe have a friend with you just in case. Now, normally their hot dogs and some if their sandwiches come with mustard, relish, pickle, tomato, sport peppers and celery salt with an option for $0.75 to add cheese to anything. Everything is faily priced but of course purchased separately, sides, drinks, etc. I got the Italian Beef sandwich with only mustard, pickle and celery salt, which I regret not getting cheese but even without it, my food was incredible. Flavor was all there. The bread was fresh. The pickle was perfect. Everything. My husband, who usually glances up occasionally from his food, only asked me how I liked my food at the beginning and did not utter one more word other than, "Oh man, this is good," until the end of his meal, which was done before I even finished my sandwich. He got the Spicy Polish Sausage and I think to say he only "liked" it would be like saying, "Phoenix in the summer is only a little hot." Inaccurate. He also got the chili cheese fries which I planned on tasting but alas, looked up and they were gone. My nephew, who also stated beforehand that "he wasn't very hungry but could eat", got the Italian Sandwich, which he also enjoyed. After his first bite I asked him if it was good, he promptly stuffed his mouth with a second bite and mumbled what I could only assume was, "Very good," and reconfirmed with a fierce and happy head nod. For someone who wasn't very hungry, he definitely finished a whole sandwich with french fries with a satisfaction I didn't expect. Whether or not any of us remember breathing throughout this delicious experience is hard to say, but nonetheless, we must have because we are all still consciously full. Great place. It's only open M-F 9:30 to 4 or 5pm as it's located in an industrial Park area. Probably the best Chicago dogs around. They would be THE BEST if Jimmy would invest in a steamer bun cabinet. The buns can be a bit dry at times. But the Vienna Beef dogs and toppings are the bomb. Ditto the Chili Cheese dogs, meatball subs and the Brats AND Italian sausages. Fries and Rings are also decent. So after a coworker had been talking this place up and reading many reviews I decided to give it a try. I ordered an Italian beef with hot and sweet peppers with cheddar and fries all for around 10. I ended up waiting close to 20 minutes with even some people who ordered after me getting their food before me. This irked me like crazy. I finally got my order. The sandwich itself is just fine but I have to say the size is pretty small for me. And the fries were alright. For what ended up getting and paying, I definitely don't think it was worth it. While visiting Arizona I called upon the local Yelper population to assist me in finding hot dog joints to visit and eventually review. One of the places suggested was "Jimmy's Hot Dogs" which serves Chicago style hot dogs and within a few days I had made my way there. I pulled up to a non-descript looking building and sure enough Jimmy's was there with Vienna Beef umbrella's out and visible. I walked in and decided to go for a hot dog and fries. I took a few pictures of the place on the inside and headed back to the table to actually sample the hot dog here. I ordered a hot dog with everything, fries and a cup of water. A few minutes later my order was up and it was time to try it. The bun here was a classic poppy seed bun as often found on Chicago style hot dogs. The bun was mostly soft with a few of the edges being a bit dry. The relish was of the neon green variety and was applied a little too heavily. The onion was chopped and applied nicely to the dog. The mustard was well applied as well, two thin slices of tomato were at the bottom. A thin pickle slice at the top and a pair of sport peppers were on the dog as well. The sausage used here was the classic Vienna beef natural casing and was properly heated up. The overall taste of the dog was excellent. The bun on the edges was a little more dry than I would prefer and the relish was applied a bit too excessively, but overall this tasted excellent and is a great representation of a Chicago style hot dog for people in Phoenix to try. The fries wrapped with the hot dog were "fresh cut fries". Over the past decade or so these have become extremely popular with hot dog vendors in Chicago. The good news is these taste like authentic Chicago style fresh cut fries, the bad news is as in Chicagoland, these are usually hit or miss and these were about average for ones found around Chicago. They weren't too greasy but they were a bit on the bland side. I didn't finish off the fries, but I will say these were a lot like what many places in Chicago serve. Overall for a Chicago-Style restaurant 1500 miles away, Jimmy's Hot Dogs easily exceeded my expectations. I'd highly recommend this place if you want a good example of what a Chicago style hot dog should taste like in Arizona. I tried several other places (with more reviews coming) that were serving alleged Chicago style dogs while in Arizona, and none compared to Jimmy's. I am going to give this place a full five star review. read more

Had to check out Jimmy's since I was in the area picking up some parts for a work project. It is located in a small business center just off the corner of 40th St and Broadway. They have your standard Chicago favorites with a small seating area inside and additional seating on the patio. Everyone says to get there early to avoid the crowd. This place is definitely very popular for the people working around here. I think the convenience factor plays a big part. Got here before the lunch rush and ordered the standard Chicago Dog and a Chili Cheese Dog. Decided to go crazy and also order some Chili Cheese Fries on the side. Service was rather quick and friendly. Could not resist watching some TV while I waited for my meal. Put me into nice zombie state until my food arrived. Not sure what happened but both dogs seemed to be well overcooked and the buns were both tough and a bit stale. The chili cheese fries seemed to lack any type of wow factor as well. I even tried putting some hot sauce on them to kick things up a notch. Oh well. Overall they have a nice menu with prices that are reasonable. Maybe the trick is to go when they are extremely busy to get the freshest stuff. But then again who has time to stand in line. Give them a try and see what you think. I was so dissapointed today. It was my first day coming here and I saw all this good reviews and the place is always packed so I figured that it will be delicious but it was not. Jimmy's has bright yellow and red 'Vienna Beef' shades up, but id say 90% blow right past this place since there's nothing but businesses around. Their loss is my gain as far as I'm concerned! A Hot Dog carnoisseur would know that they're not all create equal, so if you're looking for your standared 8 pack from the grocery store, keep it pushing. FOOD: As I was saying, the Dogs are too notch! Some firmness to the meat helps keep everything (toppings) together. There's just a bit of resistance when you bite into the them, bit the give with a little juicy "pop" almost immediately. I go for the Chili Cheese Dog w/ Onions 99% of the time but on days when I want a "standard" dog, the original is still completely satisfying. Poppet seed buns, mustard, sweet peppers, relish, rotmstoe and onion are what Hot Dogs are suppose to be. Couple them with fresh cut fries and drink you got yourself a perfect meal for under $10 VERDICT: Come give Jimmy's a try! I ordered this tamale boat becos I was interested in having a tamale for 1) from a place called 'Jimmy's Hot dogs' and for 2) becos I have never had a tamale boat which is called this becos of the enchilada sauce on top of it. What a difference a few years can make. I was really hungry, so I did power through my brat. After the first bite, I mentioned that my first impression was not bad, but it's not as good as the other place. It will go in a pinch. By my last bite, I told my coworker if she ever wanted to go back, she could do it without me. The mozzarella sticks were the cheap frozen kind, with the thick crappy breading and the chemical aftertaste. My brat was gray and tasteless. Gray. And served on French bread. Cheap commercial French bread. You know, the kind with no crunch in the crust. Rubbery. My coworker said generic grocery store hot dogs have more flavor than hers did. I can only assume they changed their product line in the last few years. I will take for granted they were good when my friends were there, and attempts at cost cutting have destroyed the product quality. Otherwise, I would have to assume my trusted friends have terrible taste in hot dogs, and reconsider how much I can trust their dining opinions.
