Getting a safety check done every year can be a pain as my mechanic usually schedules it to be done at a certain time of day and you have to make a reservation on top of it. Over here its first come fist served. No reservation, no specific time of day. Any day and anytime they are open. Just pull up to where he tells you to go and it is simple, painless and you are on your way before you know it. Today's one costed $27. I guess everything is going up including safety checks. The headliner on our VW wagon came loose and was falling. I tried a few of the so called five star places first, but couldn't get an email or a call back. It was the last day of the month my safety check was expiring. I went to six other places well known for safety checks and all weren't available. Some weren't doing them at all. A friend who used to work as a mechanic suggested Jimmy's Upholstery. I drove in, no appt. expecting long lines or another excuse but to my surprise as soon as I got there the safety check was done! Called this place ahead of time to see if they could upholster this small car seat for my partner's daughter. They said to come in so they could check it out. They ended up declining and told me to check out some other upholstery places nowhere in specific, but it would have helped if they had some places I could go. I don't get how small businesses like this don't have a network of friends, but whatever. I wish they could have just done it for me because I was lazy and willing to pay. All I wanted was them to literally drape the fabric over, but they said it would be too hard. I STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY COULDN'T DO IT. Hence the 4 stars, but they guys were nice so whatever. Its in the backstreet behind of ross on King street. Small parking of 4 cars up front. They have a sign so its easier to find. I'm familiar with this area so I knew where it was. This place is very near to me and I frequently pass by it so I yelped it and Mahalo to Julie C because i saw you can do safety inspection here and the place we get ours is always soo busy so thought we'd try this place as ours was coming up this month. They don't take appointments it's first come first served and I was out in about 15 min. When we came there was already a car there but the guy came and did everything check the car and was fast. This father and son duo completely went out of their way to harass me. First they said they couldn't read my insurance card on my phone. When I showed them the enlarged screen shot, that was not good enough. All of a sudden the father started yelling at me and now I got this clown duo tag teaming me. 3 days later, I showed up with my insurance cards and the disrespectful son yells at me "what you need?" As if he didn't know who I was. I been going there for 5 years. I have talked to other people who stopped going there and it just seems like this father /son thing is just full of hate. I asked them why they were talking to me like that and they said they didn't have a problem but they didn't need my business. I can only speculate on their reasons for being so hateful and rude but having talked to other people about why they stopped going to Jimmys upholstery it is clear that the concept of good customer service and solid ALOHA IS DEAD AT JIMMYS UPHOLSTERY! 1. Despite the sign out front, the company doing the motorcycle safety checks is Magic Trading Company (read whose name is on your receipt). Jimmy's Auto Upholstery is the sign for the upholstery shop in the rear of the building. 2. January 2023 I was told by the younger guy, who has done my safety check for years, that THEY NO LONGER DO MOTORCYCLE SAFETY CHECKS. He did not offer anyone else when I asked. I always try to support local businesses; this one is a long time local business located in back of the old Long's location on King Street - it's on Young St. My friend who is an insurance adjuster told me that they do good work and he was right. I called them on a Thursday and had me come in the next day. I needed to get my car roof upholstery changed in my 2004 Honda Accord EX-L Coupe since the fabric was starting to sag. They had the right fabric and replaced the old with new fabric that was a perfect match! You would never know that I replaced it - took about 4 hours. Cost me 250 which was a great price. Terrible job. It was a simple straight stitch around the edge of some moderately heavy material. He sewed right over the rotting and unraveling previous thread. When I remarked about it he said it would take too much time to remove the old thread...( I lifted off 8" right in front of him at this point.) I asked him if he thought it looked good. I never acted upset or raised my voice but he just walked away. The price was ridiculously high, as well. If possible, I would give them a "no star" rating. read more
