Save yourself time and money do not take your car here. After reading so many good reviews I had high hopes for this place. I had a water leak and a few minor problems I wanted checked out. I drive an Audi A4 1.8t and they are supposed to be specialist and he assured me to trust him as he has been working on these cars his whole life. The customer service was nice when I arrived they told me it would be $95 for the inspection I thought that was high but I needed them to check out a few different things and I said okay. I asked he fix the water leak, find out why my power steering was so noisy and to find out why I was burning through oil so fast. He said my water leak was a bad plug and it was a $10 dollar part. He also charged me for coolant and oil. I was charged $150 in total. I picked up my car drove 10 miles and my light came on indicating I needed more water/coolant. I brought my car back as soon as I could. He kept it the entire day, he claimed the coolant was low it just needed more. He also claimed it wasn't leaking at all. I explained to him how I saw with my own eyes it was leaking before I brought it back. He wouldn't even listen to me and just said it doesn't leak. I then asked about my oil again because he never got back to me about it, he said oh it's leaking oil so I asked from where he said he didn't know. I asked if he could find out and he said he didn't want to. He said my car has too many problems and he doesn't want to work on my car anymore. But he didn't fix anything, my car still leaked water nothing was fixed at all. I wasted half the week and $150. Isn't that a mechanics job? To fix cars? He claims to be a specialist? No, this guy is looking to get quick cash from you. Not looking to actually fix cars. He wants simple fast jobs so he can get your money. He also was pushing me to buy new tires when I don't even need them along with other unnecessary parts and work that would get him more of my money. So basically I paid $150 bucks to have a $10 plug changed that wasn't even bad. So if you want to be ripped off, go here for sure. Thanks for nothing Jim's auto repair! I wish I could give them 0 stars Oh yea I almost forgot he also broke my driver side window he rolled it down and it would not come back up, I was about to leave and he said give him 20min to fix it, so instead of fixing it they put my window up and now it doesn't go down. The brakes to my Honda pretty much failed on me this past Tuesday and I needed an auto repair shop that was close by and reliable. I am so happy that I chose Jim's Auto Repair. It turned out that my calipers needed to be replaced because they were leaking out brake fluid...woops. Jose was one of the mechanics that worked with me and he was very helpful and nice. They were kinda busy and I had no ride home so I hung out for a few hours while they worked on my car. Jose was kind enough to let me know what restaurants were in the area so I could grab a bite to eat and kill time. I'm not familiar with pricing for car parts and labor since I normally don't have car trouble but the cost for new calipers, brake fluid, and labor came out to $268 which included tax. As of today, 1/14/11, I can say with confidence that my brakes are working properly and it's probably the best my brakes have ever felt. Another thing to note is that I have wheel locks on my tires, but no key. However, there's a few tools that you can use to undo the locks, and Jose had them handy. So there was no need for me to provide my own tools that I use to undo the locks. He also recommended that I get a tune up and fix the leaking in my radiator. Both recommendations are accurate as I have followed up with a mechanic friend in Tustin and he concurred with Jose's assessment. The estimated costs for both services that Jose recommended were: Tune Up: $180 Radiator: $275 I'll let you guys be the judge of whether this is average pricing or pricey. Other than that, Jose saved my life on Tuesday. read more

My car had screeeeeeeching brakes for god knows how long. I didn't realize they were making noise until my boyfriend lowered the volume of my radio..lol. My boyfriend called up the place and they gave him a quote without having the parts. The lady said the price would be lowered if we bring in the parts (brake discs pads). So we went to Auto Zone and bought the parts needed for my car. The total for replacing my brake pads was $95.00 which was completed in about an hour. Kudos to you if you come here!!!! read more

I can't believe I haven't written a review for Jose and the shop yet... I've been going to Jim's for 15 years and I have NEVER had a complaint. Jose and his family are good upstanding people that are trustworthy and reliable. The service is top notch and the 6 cars I have owned throughout the years have all been repaired at Jim's. From oil changes to transmission replacement, Jose has been there to talk me through it. He has picked me up when I was stranded and made sure I was always taken care of whenever I'm in the shop. My family goes to him, my friends go to him and I would recommend everyone within driving distance to get serviced at Jim's. Quality and honest auto repair shops are very hard to find and Jim's is one of the few. I have to add that I have never owned a VW, but it is his specialty. All my cars I took to him were Honda's, Toyota's, and Mercedes (money pit of a car). It's starting to sound like I work for the place! The ONLY downside is the waiting area, if you could get dropped off I would recommend doing so, especially if its going to be an extensive wait. If you're only doing an oil change bring an IPOD or a book...or read the Bible there on the desk, it will do you some good. There isn't a shop around that compares to Jim's Auto Repair. read more

I got my wife's transmission done here. A week earlier, I had the same car in for a tune-up. I asked Jose why the transmission issue wasn't flagged during a routine tune up and he didn't give me a great answer. After Jim fixed the transmission it started leaking. Jose stood by his word and fixed it. Only trouble is that the leak came back and once again Jose 'tried' to fix it. This actually went on and on up to four times until I finally took it to a transmission specialist who identified the issue and fixed it . Also, the car died at Costco, (before I saw the new transmission specialist) due to the battery terminals being 'super' loose. I know Jim's Auto Repair unhooked and re-hooked the battery during the transmission install so I guess they didn't tighten the bolts enough (sloppy). I had to drive to Jim's after another shop couldn't take it off, even though they put it on. The other shop forgot to add the spacer so the inside rim was rubbing the control arm nasty. Wow!! For the first time in my life I was not disappointed by an auto mechanic. In fact, quite the opposite! They are honest, straightforward, and welcoming. I brought my 1973 VW Super Beetle in that my brother restored to look like a space shuttle. I call it my "Space Bug." Anyway, they treated me wonderfully, maintained honesty and integrity, and went above and beyond with their work. My car was returned to me cleaner then when I left it, and running like a dream. I used this place about 7 years ago for a general tune up. I was very pleased with the staff, service, price, and I especially loved that I was talked out of "over servicing" my car. I was told "your car is in great shape, you don't need to do this, that, for a few more years". I didn't have to service my car again (other than oil changes, tire rotation, breaks, etc.... which my husband can handle) until now. My husband noticed a power steering fluid leak. Jim's Auto Repair was the first and only place we thought about using. We got fast, honest service at a reasonable price. They informed us about other problems that they noticed and advised us to take care of, but we never felt pressured. My car drives amazing now, like brand new. Ok. So it's been about a week since i got my vw back from Jose at Jim's Auto. I am very pleased with the work he performed. I can't say enough about how how happy I am. Not only did he fix what he said he would he also fixed a broken door handle and bled my brakes which had air in the lines. I was very happy with the price. He gave me a great deal! By far the best and most honest mechanic I've ever been to. Jose is the best - he's saved me so much money over the years and has hooked me up with incredibly cheap towing as well. Quick anecdote - I thought my VW's cadillac convertor was going. I accidentally called another mechanic who quoted me $1,600 to $2,000 - half way through the call - I realized my mistake. I quickly hung up and spoke to Jose at Jim's. He told me over the phone that the repair would be approximately $350 - I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I brought the car in the next day and told him I would be probably trading it in soon. After testing the car, he realized it was running on 4 cylinders instead of 6 and only charged me for the cost of the tune-up which was even cheaper than the $350 quote and told me that he was trying to put in as little money as possible into the car since I was getting rid of it soon. I called Jim's auto repair when I needed a routine 40K maintenance on my car. I was quoted a price of $80-230 depending on what was needed. When I received the estimate after dropping off my car, the number was $350! I felt obligated to do the maintenance there since it already cost $95 for the estimate itself. When picking up the car, I was told that my tires didn't need rotating and my fluid levels were fine. So basically, just the oil and filters were changed. I have a Diesel which is a little more costly than a standard oil and filter change. But, I am unhappy that this cost me $100 over the high estimate for a routine service where nothing extra was needed. When I mentioned this to the receptionist, she didn't seem to care much but said she'd let the owner know. I also e-mailed the owner and after about 3 weeks, have not had a response. I hope that in the future they take better care in what estimates they give. Especially for a routine service. I have a leased car and prefer to stick with the dealerships for repair work due to warranty and records purposes. But, in this case, the dealer quoted me $349 and jims quoted $230, so I thought I would give this shop a chance. I was happy to find a mechanic who was close to my house, family-owned, and had good yelp reviews. Unfortunately for my next service, I will be back at the dealership. read more

This my first time coming, they were the only shop out of all places I called that gave me an exact quote for my brake job for my 2013 VW Passat. I have a BMW that I would normally take to a performance shop in Costa Mesa but I've doing some work close to Jim's and needed coils, plugs and an oil change. I was a little hesitant because most of the cars they work on were domestic and japanese brands but after speaking with Jose Jr., I was impressed with his knowledge of German cars and everyone at the shop seemed very humble and friendly without pressure. Made an appt. and Jose had a bay open and waiting when I pulled in. 50 min. later I was out the door and the price, frankly, was about $150 less than the BMW shop wanted to charge me. I've only dealt with Jose Jr. but everyone seems to know their business very well. I will definitely be coming back to the shop in the future. Jose and all of his crew are outstanding. I have never seen mechanics who are this good at their job but also don't rack up unnecessary charges. They are kind and patient and do outstanding quality work. My sister came here for years, but I've only been coming for a few months. Ladies, if you worry about mechanics trying to talk down to you or oversell you're on things you don't need, come here. Not only will they only charge you what you need, they are very communicative about the problem and more than willing to help you. I know things about my car and can talk about it now because of Jose. I needed new brake pads, and he pulled me out to show me my new pads, where they were, why they were good, the whole deal. He talks to me as an equal and with respect, not condescending like I've gotten with other mechanics. Woohoo is right! I have to say we all need to have a good mecanic and im very blessed I found mine! I have a Volkswagan Passat 2007 and it had the engine light on which it always comes on and off but if it stays on for a couple of days or wks like it did to me you need to go to Jims and let Joe the owners son take care of your VW. Im so happy to have found them. Timmons VW was going to charge me 110.00 just for them to look at it and plug it in to their computer for a diagnose and then who knows what. Well not at Jims.. they diagnosed it with out that charge.I needed the crank valve replaced plus other work for 300.00 I know I saved over 150.00 dollars.
