Honest and knows what he is doing. I will go to him every time. Once I was driving down the hill and this loud noise was coming from my front somewhere and drove backup slowly and straight to Jims. He came out pretty fast and had me start it put it in reverse and back forward and knew what it was. A rock got in in between the brakes and drum. He got it out in less than a minute and said no charge, He is just great !!!

I went in for a smog check today, was greeted by Nathan and was helped within 5 minutes. I had made an appointment and was right on time. He was very courteous and professional and I was out of there within 30 minutes with no problems. This was my first time there and would definitely be back. read more

Had a problem with a check engine light and the dealer that I purchased the TrailBlazer from would only clear the code and send me on my way as being fixed. Nate at Jim's Auto found the problem and promptly took care of it. The charge was well within reason. Everyone there was very friendly. Would go back in a heart beat. read more

Service from acceptable to just plain bad. Most recent experience: My wife called in to make an appointment for a water pump replacement for my daughter's car. Was told by Nathan that they are booked solid for the next two weeks. and that "they don't want to work on Mercedes, anyway." I really try to keep my money on the mountain, however between the surly attitude and the 2-3x retail markup on parts, I'm done with Jim's. read more

Worst experience of a lifetime!! I was terribly taken advantage of by this company. I originally took my car there to have a starter put on. Bob the mechanic called me because he had to order another starter. He broke the replacement starter trying to put it on. He ordered another starter and when I went to pick up my car it sounded horrible! It was like nuts and bolts bouncing around under the hood. He told me it was only good for two more starts and I needed to have it towed to his friend's at Budget Transmission. He said it would cost an additional 650 to 1,000 dollars to fix.(I have this in writing.) I told him no. He allowed me back out of the garage and leave while it sounded like this. He didn't return my core charge (I later picked it up at Mtn. Auto upon request) and Bob left the protection shield to the starter in my back seat. After being gone for over a week and realizing that the protection shield was in the back seat I went back in for Bob to put it on. He said he would later in the day. I said okay. I was volunteering across the street for family services at the time. He came back with my key and said the clips were all broken. I told him I would pick up the clips the next morning.I then went to pick up the clips at Mtn Auto Parts and they said that Bob already picked them up. I told Bob I was not paying extra for the clips, as I had mentioned previously, I would purchase the clips and bring them to him. I told him I felt I had been taken advantage of terribly. Both of our voices started to escalate and we were both yelling at one another. The only thing I requested was my protective shield put back on which takes approximately five minutes (I had a friend put it on later). I was then grabbed forcibly from behind by the manager Frank Avitabile and thrown out of the shop almost falling down. All I wanted was my key back for my car. I called the police and the deputy sheriff retrieved my key and I made a citizens arrest. He had no right to lay his hands on me. The manager left immediately when he knew I was calling the police. I am older lady, alone and on a fixed income. I don't want to see other people taken advantage of like this. What a horrific experience. read more

Local, family owned and operated. We've been servicing the Rim of the World community for over 40 years. Current owner worked here for nearly 20 years before him, and his wife purchased the business. We specialize in Subarus and have customers from all over Southern California who make the trip to see us! We also work on most makes and models. We also offer Smog checks on all 2000 & newer vehicles as well as diesel.

History

Established in 1980.

To our knowledge, the building was built in 1940, & was originally a Chevron Gas Station, with 1 garage. In 1968, they filmed an episode of the show 'I Spy' with Robert Culp and Bill Cosby, was filmed not only in Top Town, Jim's was used as a main background! Season 3 Episode 17, found on YouTube. This is where things get a little fuzzy! When the shop was turned from a gas station & expanded to a 3-garage, we are unsure of. We don't know if it was Jim who did the transformation, or someone before him. The original Jim bought the place, & changed the name, sometime in the 1970's. Then sometime in the 1980s, Jim's was sold to a man named Frank A. Frank, thinking he would only own the place maybe 5 years, never changed the name. He ended up owning Jim's over 40 years. In 2006, a young, 18-year-old kid named Nathan (Nate as most know him) started working for Frank. Nathan ended up buying Jim's in 2022. He decided to keep the name because Jim's has become such a well-known & trusted name.

Meet the Business Owner: Nathan Nicole R.

Nathan comes from a family who's been on the mtn decades. His mother actually graduated from Rim High in the 80s. After moving out of state as a kid, he returned to the mountain at 18 years old, getting a job at Jim's a few months later. Nicole grew up in the Riverside area, where she lived until meeting & falling in love with Nate. She moved to the mountain in 2009. While discussing where they wanted to set their foundation at, it was an easy choice for the couple to make... Mountain life or city... of course it was the mountains!! They married in 2012, & have 3 children (the oldest 2 are from Nicole's previous marriage). We are mountain residents who care about our community and don't look at our customers just as customers. They're our neighbors, our family, our friends. We are here to offer reliable and honest services to keep our community on the road!

Your auto shop in Crestline is dropping the ball, and it's getting old fast. The staff's attitude? Straight-up abysmal. Rude, condescending, and acting like customers are a burden--half the time, we don't even get a nod when we walk through the door. It's like you're running a grumpy mechanics' club instead of a business. I'm guessing you're slammed with overbookings, but that's no excuse for treating people like they're crashing your party. Yeah, your work's solid--I'll give you that--but is it worth wading through the attitude just to get my car fixed? Hard pass. And let's talk about that eyesore you call a shop. The place is a junkyard vibe with busted cars, scattered parts, and enough clutter to make a hoarder blush. It's not just unprofessional; it screams fire hazard. Worse, it's dragging Crestline's charm down with it. Tourists rolling up the mountain get your chaotic mess as their welcome sign. Real classy. Step it up. Train your crew to act like they care, or at least fake a smile. Clear out the debris and make the shop look like it belongs in a mountain town, not a scrap heap. If this keeps up, I'm looping in San Bernardino County's Code Enforcement to take a hard look at your property. Crestline deserves better, and so do your customers. Nate at Jim's Auto is nothing short of amazing. It's rare these days to find a really competent mechanic, honest, and someone who really cares about the work he does and the community. I've been in for a battery change (which he didn't charge me for), new brakes and he fixed a problem that the Dodge dealer could not figure out; an issue with a bad leveling sensor. What a breath of fresh air to know I can take any automotive issue to him and know it will get fixed right, the first time. The following morning the awesome team at Snyder's looked at my vehicle and determined the issue was an improperly installed air filter which had been done earlier in the day at an quick oil change service center that has a name starting with a 'V'. The issue was quickly fixed and I was on my way! It was explained that I couldn't be charged legally by Snyder's because it was determined the oil change service center was the cause and I went to have them do their job correctly later. My vehicle ran over a softball size rock while going up a mountain road. It damaged my right front…read moretire. It bent the rim and went flat. I saw Miguel at Bill Linder tires. It was great! They fixed the rim and rotated my tires and it took very little time. They were friendly and had a sense of humor. I highly recommend this business to all! It's female friendly as well!
