I feel like this is a secret gem in Alameda. The ambiance and old world charm is second to none. There used to be a 24 hour diner in Jingletown next to 711 but now that its gone it make this place more important and puts it more on the map. I feel like this is the best breakfast place in all of Alameda. Sure, there are some popular spots on Park but this place has more convenient parking is isn't overrated like the others. If you love the diner feeling this is for you. Its not modern or the gourmet but its casual and comfortable and the portions are generous. The biggest highlight of this place is that its super underrated. Its not one of those places that is too popular for its own good. If you live on the island or Jingletown you need to come in at least once. I'm sure you've driven by thousands and thousands of times but never stopped in once... just give it a try. read more

Been coming to Jims since the 90s and have always been given great service. I eat here a couple times a week. Recently I was served by Savanah and was blown away. Jim's is a cool diner just off of Park St. that has just about any food item you can imagine on the menu. I kid, but seriously - their menu is quite large. We've frequented Jim's for years. The service is good and the staff is always very nice! They are attentive and check in on you. There is a parking lot in the back of the business, which is great in this busy district. read more

Again, ordered the patty melt medium rare and it was actually so well done no moisture left in the meat what so ever. Had to request twice for a glass of water. The waitress knew the order was over cooked but delivered it anyways. When pointed out she did offer to have it corrected but that means giving up your plate and getting cold french fries. I have ordered this item in the last year and the same thing overcooked burger. So bye! read more

This a lunch time review during the Covid-19 shelter in place. I ordered a takeout order using DoorDash. I ordered a Pastrami Sandwich with a side salad. I didn't know what to expect, and I got what is described.....a Pastrami Sandwich and a salad. Nothing fancy, no utensils. No choice of dressing. No napkins. If this was to be eaten on the road, you would have a problem. But they knew it was being delivered to a house. Not bad, but I won't order this again. Apparently this place is great if you eat there. I went to Jim's for the first time today, as a solo diner, for a late breakfast. The clientele features many men of retirement age, and a few couples. Service was good, and the food was ok, but getting more coffee was a challenge. I got a cup and a half, but would have liked more. I asked her for more coffee when she brought my order. The waitress was nice enough, but never checked on me. She just gave me the bill, and I paid online. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I felt a bit rushed, though there were plenty of empty tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Once again, as a woman dining solo, service in restaurants can be sub par when my hubby is not with me. I wish some servers were more sensitive when faced with solo woman diners. There is still a stigma regarding this. How hard is it to keep pouring the coffee? I order for pick up some scrambled white eggs and hash browns I pay extra money for white eggs and bacon!! My eggs has no bacon all I went to return it the waitress and the manager was very rude they keep saying it's was bacon in my eggs!!! And I say is not , they think I was stupid I should get my money back but they say they will made another eggs and went I got home same BS no bacon all they just give me the same order they just pretend they giving me a new order is why I think I should get my money back. read more

I really love this place, and I haven't been for at least 3 years. I went the first 9 years I lived here. I was put off by the rudeness of the waitresses here. They are busy, but act like their needs are more important than ours. I love the upper management, and everyone seems friendly, but the wait staff needs attitude adjustment, and seem rushed, and overworked! I forgot my umbrella in there last time I was there, and refused to return to get it, not worth it to me. The staff was SO INCREDIBLY RUDE! I'll take my business elsewhere, thank you! O'le's is much better food, and the servers act like they care about their clients. I gave it 4 stars, because I'm not a total "dick" and going to rate it less, on service alone. The food is phenomenal, but Ole's food is actually much better! read more

My nephew was raving about this place so after a Sunday morning workout we were ravenous and I thought let's check it out... Jim's is so nostalgic, it reminds me of old New York City nights going to the diner... brings back so many fond memories..Pictures of Marilyn Monroe and James dean dressing all the walls. And the service is amazing the staff is so kind and hospitable. The food came out hot and fast. It was so delicious. We ordered the crab cake Benedict, California scramble and a breakfast burrito with chili verde sauce . My nephew ate it so fast I couldn't snap a photo. He is vegan and they were so accommodating with his dietary modifications. The crab cake Benedict was fresh on top of a bed of spinach and home fries . The rye toast was crispy and buttery delicious. Stopped in or breakfast at 0705 on a rainy Tuesday morning. Didn't even look at the menu. Ordered eggs Benedict with hash browns. A great cup of coffee and excellent service. Perfect hash browns and no complaints on the EB. An old school diner vibe with smoothie jazz in the background. Tables booths and counter dining. Good service at an attempt to make up for the lackluster meal that was received. Old-abused plate was used to serve bountiful food that was either soggy or burnt. I was recommended this place by some co workers. I never even knew it was here, I usually go to Ole's waffle shop for breakfast which is excellent also. I have come here a lot in my life- more recently than ever but I was told from the waitress my hashbrowns were extra crispy because I asked for an omelette instead of a scramble ... someone else at my table asked for a lightly toasted hashbrowns as well and they came out perfect for them. I've never had hashbrowns crunchier than bacon and it being waved off because I asked for something a little modified as an excuse. read more

This was my favorite breakfast place for a few months . After the first time getting it DoorDashed I was a weekly customer. Today I ordered and am so disappointed, not the same. My hash browns were hard, barely edible. English muffin not buttered, hard. And the size of the orange juice for $5.75!? Omg! I feel completely ripped off! Being that I'm expecting my hormones may be having me a little more sad than I'd usually be over messed up food but we really just wanted to enjoy this & it was a fail this morning. I love this place! One of the best breakfast spots in Alameda hands down. This restaurant has been here for decades and it's always been consistent. The steak and eggs and chorizo burrito are my personal favorites. Their prices and portion are definitely reasonable. Service is always usually good even when they're busy. To-go orders are ready usually within 5-10 minutes as well. Definitely give this spot a try if you like homie diners, you'll love it. read more

Great nostalgic neighborhood diner joint! On the outside it didn't look all that impressive but once we entered we were shocked at how big the space was! We seated ourselves and our delightfully hilarious server promptly brought us menus and water. They have a wide selection here. I chose the classic French toast which was fantastic and simple just the way I like them. My hubby got the Greek omelette which was topped with feta cheese. Our coffees were constantly refilled. No frills and reasonably priced. Would definitely come back! read more

I love classic diners and this place is so love-able!! I love the old school vibe and diner atmosphere but wow, the food is good too! My husband and I both love a hearty breakfast plate, especially the omelettes which come with hash brown or fries and a choice of bread (English muffin, sourdough, etc). Jim's menu is quite extensive with a large variety of breakfast items, sandwiches and other lunch specialities, and at dinner, they serve some of the best diner classics. If you are looking for something to get, I recommend the avocado and bacon omelette. It's delicious! There is a large parking lot in the back but I've heard this place gets really packed on the weekends with long lines. Luckily my family and I came on a weekday around 11am and there were plenty of parking spots and empty tables. There is a large room in the back of the restaurant which is hard to see from Park street. My husband has been coming to Jim's since he was a little boy and I hope we can bring my son for many many years as well. read more

I gotta say... i was not pleased with my order... portions were huge though. The toast completely burnt... couldn't eat it. Pancakes huge!!!! But, only came with one tiny thing of syrup.... i didn't really understand the ratio... i would imagine at least 1 per pancake... skimped out of the syrup. I'm not sure eggs can be dry, but, my eggs were pretty dry... hash browns were pretty mushy inside.. the sauce on my chicken fried steak was broken. So, if you order take out, make sure to ask for the gravy on the side. Ask for soft scramble. Skip the hash... and the toast... ask for extra syrup. Like, A LOT... read more

Eat at your own risk. Ordered through GrubHub. Requested my steak medium rare. Manager admitted he didn't see my request and went by their standard of medium well? Who requests that? Shouldn't medium rare be the standard? Then I tasted my pie. Very dry. I lifted the top crust and the entire inside was covered in thick mold. MOLD! I now know why they serve medium well steak, the meat is probably old and no longer pink. You've been warned. read more

First time eating here & im impressed. I have eaten at all breakfast places in the Bay and this is in my top list. Ordered chicken apple sauce, eggs, and home potatoes with raisin bread and chicken apple sausage woth French toast. The chicken apple sausage is the best I've had; thinly sliced, seasoned and you get 2 full sizes. The potatoes with the bell peppers are the best and also seasoned perfectly !! French toast was good. I don't know what happened, I went there last weekend and had the worst experience. Since I was grabbing and going, can't speak too much on ambiance on the place. They have a small space and tables for small parties both inside the cafe and along their front sidewalk. Their menu selection is wide, offering a variety of lattes, coffees, and teas, but also both pastries and small meals as well. It's no wonder why they're always popping around this time of day. Although I haven't tried many of their drinks, I can say that their matcha latte has been consistently good. Today I ordered one with almond milk and the matcha flavor is nicely balanced. Good ratio between matcha and milk. The matcha itself tastes pretty well rounded - not bitter, but also not too subtle in flavor. I probably got the matcha here like three times and it has not failed me yet. My partner really enjoys the Malasada but they can sell out pretty quickly. Previously I've tried their Ube Crinkle and their donuts and they were pretty good as well. This time, I wanted something a little less sweet and small so I tried the Bibingka which was great! I love mochi and the Bibingka had a mochi texture to it. It comes with some pineapple bits which I tend to avoid, but my desire to try something new overrode that today and thankfully, the bits were small. It's a dense little bite, but I enjoyed it! A perfect little bike treat. I don't get much interaction here with the workers since it's such a quick stop, but it's okay. I think depending on what time you go, it just gets really busy and employees are just trying to chug out the orders. We'll be back again for those delicious drinks and pastries though!

I've been coming here for awhile, ever since one fine afternoon I was in town on business and was feeling a need for craft beer. I was once the world's predominant authority on craft beer in my own mind, but years of chugging ales have decimated my tolerance for it. Anywho, the first thing you'll notice about this spot is it's out there, pretty far off from downtown Alameda tucked away in an old military pier alongside some other more enterprising establishments. Lots of parking so there's that. Inside, they are definitely doing that thang, massive brewery stacks dominate the background but the space is massive so it supports an almost endless amount of tables, benches, and spots to hide out. Arcade machines, outdoor activities (even a kids sandbox) really add the "Adventureland" elements that make it more than just a standard brew joint. If you've had their beer, it's definitely on the expensive side, but they keep a healthy variety that I would say is all reliably refined and delicious. Its no 2000 era Bells or modern day Founders, but I particularly like their love hazy and the Mexican style lagers. My friends who like sours say they are also quite good. Although this place is really not directly affiliated with the business it's definitely a reason I go so I can't leave it out -- they have food trucks outside that handle most of the food there and the one they have there always has one of the best burgers I've ever had in the bay, hands down. It's a blackened blueberry and blue cheese burger and even though I don't like blue cheese, this unholy alliance is faaaaaaan-friggin-tastic. Must try. Service is casual, they do flights which is a great way to try things. Not sure about any happy hours, would love to see them get a mug/growler thing going here for discounts, they might have something already I'm just not aware of but nothing is obvious when I've gone. It's a great spot to kick it with some friends on a nice day or late afternoon, having a few beers and relaxing. California doesn't really do the beer garden thing like we do in the Midwest, you'll find spots like this all over Michigan so it's nice to see something of the same type here finally. I believe dogs are allowed too ala Texas vibes, but not 100% on that so I'd check ahead of time. Personally, I cannot stand seeing dogs at restaurants and bars so even if they do allow it, those aren't your kids, can we start reporting places that allow dogs without signage? If I brought a raccoon in on a leash would you be fine with that? It's a sanitation issue. Anyways, I digress, if you like beer, you like fun, and you like damn fine burgers, this is the best spot on the other side of the pond. 'nuff said.

Perhaps it's just a cute little island aesthetics, but the pastries seemed rather traditional. The Yuzu tart was tasty and had good flavor, it was also around 2 PM on a Sunday, so maybe all the good pastries were gone. Service was great and very helpful, and another large family came in to the pastry shop as we were leaving. Maybe I'll try it next time and see if they have different seasonal pastries.

We recently visited Jim's Family Diner and were very disappointed with the strawberry waffles. The customer service was great, but the quality of the waffles was subpar. Two of us ordered them and one of the orders was not brought to the table until it was already soggy. The thick layer of jam on top was sour and did not complement the waffles at all. It was also not visually appealing. Out of the nine people at our table who tried the waffles, everyone agreed that they were not up to par. To make matters worse, the diner was very busy at the time and we did not want to cause any disruptions by complaining. However, the youngest member of our group ended up getting sick and was very disappointed by the experience, as they had heard great things about the diner from us and had looked forward to their visit. We hope that this feedback can be used to improve the quality of the strawberry waffles at Jim's Family Diner. read more

BEST HASH BROWNS EVER! People come to Alameda for Ole's, I went once.....but its Jim's around the corner that they should be going to. It doesn't look as inviting as their main competitor, but maybe that's the point... this surely is a place for the locals and the adventurous out of towners. They're and old fashion diner. They have great service! Jims is hands down my favorite diner! There is a reason this place can be packed for breakfast on any given day of the week, like literally. Another plus is the huge parking lot and digital waiting system to get you that bacon efficiently. This place is a much better and nicer diner than Ole's, any day. The only reason it gets 4 stars is because I think maybe they can updo the place a little, give it a nice little remodel. Something nice, a little touch might be better. I've only been to Jim's Coffee Shop for breakfast so I can't comment on their lunch or dinner plates. The portions are very large, and the omelettes and home fries are OK; although on the salty side. The restaurant is huge, but sort of dingy. The reason I'm only giving Jim's one star is that the coffee is without a doubt the worst I've ever had in my life. It's almost as if you can feel your internal organs recoil, for every sip of coffee you take. A coffee shop by definition should have decent coffee, and Jim's owner really should be ashamed of himself for exposing his customers to such a vile tasting brew. If you insist on going to Jim's Coffee Shop, and want coffee too, I strongly advise that you stop by Peet's beforehand. read more

Oh my god im sooo fulll, lol So i come here on a sunday morning with the cousins and we all crave for the breakfast they serve here. As usual i always stick to the specials, so for today, i had to go for special #1 w/ hashbrowns on the side which was how you say muy bueno lol but beyond that everything here is great, the lines are never usually line, and even if you have to wait it would only take about 5 minutes and they also serve you coffee outside, so Jim's is very nice since i live in this area, i would call them my local neighborhood friends haha My Breakfast buddies Anyways this place is great for anyone, very nice, and service is Fasssst Sunday Morning here made my day A LOVELY DAY ;] 4 STARS BUDDY read more

They shorten the menu and lost a few good breakfast items but it is still hands down the best dinner in Alameda. I have been in love with this place for at least a decade now. The service is everything you'd expect from a dinner. Friendly, family-like, and quick. Eggs Blackstone -2 poached eggs with sauce, with salmon, on top of English muffins.... for a salmon lover this is as good as it gets The moon over my-hammy - I forget whats in it, I just remember I'd get it again Chili cheese and hot tamale omelet -This is a gut buster special! OMG, when we want to pig out and eat all the things we love for breakfast, we go here. Great prices, huge portions, yummy food. It's the best comfort food place around. The hash browns are the bomb and these days it's hard to find a place that will serve up really good hash browns. Crispy on the outside, warm and mushy on the inside, YUM. When you are ready to go off your diet and cheat, this is the first place you should go. Oh and the bacon is thick and plentiful. read more

I'm with Kenny L. It's hard to enjoy a breakfast here when you could be sittin at Ole's having the best breakfast ever. I tried it out with the bf one day because we were in a hurry. The place is pretty big but the staff isn't too friendly and nothing tastes as good as Ole's (did I already say that?). My omelette was very undercooked (gross) and the hash browns were undercooked too. We couldn't even get freshly squeezed juice. read more

But even with the avo, it was so bland. The BACON even couldn't save it. I think it was just too much potato, just made it so mouth smacky. Is that a terminology that makes sense to you? The salsa definitely made the burrito more tolerable. I'm not saying that it was a bad burrito. I've definitely had MANY breakfast burritos that were WAY worse than this one. But it was just, meh. The service was great though. I placed my order over the phone, walked down the street and picked it up. The burrito was still really hot when I got back to my desk to shovel it into my mouth lol But anyway. Get the breakfast burrito, but make sure you have the salsa to go with it. If you don't like salsa, get ketchup.
