Food sat in window for 10 minutes while wait staff stood around chatting. Watched servers handle food on plates after they came out of the window. Watched a male server wipe sweat off of his face with his hand then go and make a salad for a customer without washing his hands. Hygiene is a must and it was strongly lacking. Service overall was mediocre at best won't be back used to eat there every chance I got with my family. read more

I never do reviews unless something was exceptional or fell short. My experience at Jims fell short. I was in for breakfast, ordered the fried steak and eggs. I requested the hotcakes to be held back till i was done with the first part. The server said "well the order goes in all at once but i will keep them hot for you". She brought it all at the same time. I had asked for silverware and cream for my coffee. I got the fork and spoon but no creamer for about 8 min. The one napkin that comes with the silverware was used on the orange juice that was spilled when she set the glass on the table. The next check in with me was when she brought the check. So cold hotcakes, lukewarm coffee that was terrible , and no napkins. Was no chance to comment on this because the server, Sharron, never checked in on me till she brought the check. Food was ok. We have eaten at Jim's for over 15 years. Never have we been treated with such disregard for customer service as we were this evening. For the first time ever, we decided to order their 1/2 fried chicken dinner for takeout. It takes longer to cook and has always been very hot, crisp, so we thought it would not be cold for us to eat at home. The time for pickup was 45 minutes. We were at the restaurant at 35-40 minutes after calling in the order. I walked in, advised why I was there, and the person I talked with checked with the cook then went outside to talk with someone. They came back, and to shorten this discussion, the order had not been turned in. After asking for the manager, I was advised she (Ashley) had taken my phone order, but failed to turn it in to the chef. She was sorry and that apology should be acceptable. Without asking, she started the chef cooking the chicken. There were NO customers in the restaurant, and in my opinion, that would not justify what happened. She did not ask if we wanted them to go ahead with our order, however, she did have the cook start with the order. She offered nothing but her apology, and felt that she had just made a mistake. No consideration for the customer making adjustments in their day and time thinking they are going to have their order. The manager did not organize her responsibilities to accommodate the customer the restaurant was serving. It was all about her needs, not any consideration for the customer. We will not ever go back. read more

We chose this place on Sunday at 11 and didn't get out food until noon! Yes it was busy but an hour wait at a diner is ridiculous and our fried green beans were burnt. The waiter, although hott, was slow and seemed inexperienced. Once the food finally came, it was awesome! read more

Went in at 10:30 on a Saturday. Ordered chicken and waffles, what came out was a two small chicken tenders. The waitress said they were almost out, so we'd only be charged for the waffle. She only greeted us and got the initial drink order. I would've changed my order if I knew before the food arrived. I had to ask for coffee refills, and they ran out of half/half. Customer service was unapologetic and inattentive, food was mediocre. read more

Came in with large party for Father's Day. Waited well over an hour at the table for food. Most of our party left because they were tired of waiting. Finally got some food. Restaurant just offered 15% off. Any normal restaurant would have comped the whole meal due to the miserable service. Good was decent if you can ever get served. Come on and just hire more help. You guys raised your prices a good bit and should be able to afford it!!! Plus waitresses work mostly for tips. Really a poorly managed restaurant. read more

One star is way to much for this dive, but yelp won't let you leave 0. Last night we decide to try this place. Not only is the place filthy but so was the missing tooth cashier. We called and placed an order, from their online menu. When we arrived to pick it up they charged two dollars more for the burgers then what the internet states. $8.99 for a burger that was absolutely terrible. We also ordered a side of fried green tomatoes and the mozzarella sticks. I understand they are a frozen item, but the cook obviously doesn't know how to cook, or they wouldn't have turned out like hockey pucks. Think twice before eating here. I'm still belching more then 12 hours later, and I only had a couple bites before trashing this this $31.00 crap. read more

Jim's Diner used to be a community staple. Apparently it's gone downhill and changed owners. This used to be a go-to, but I'll never come here again. The last two visits have been terrible. First time, they were very rude, made us feel bad about having children (who were actually well behaved), and were out of almost everything (including NAPKINS). I thought, hey, probably a fluke so let's try again. Wrong. This time they were rude again, made us wait 30 minutes before taking our order, and AFTER taking our order informed us their card reader had been down for days and we could only pay in cash. No signs posted to notify customers prior to getting the receipt, absolutely unacceptable. Strongly do NOT recommend. read more

Jim's recently went through a remodel, unfortunately they also remodeled their menu and cooking abilities. I Have been going to this restaurant for at least twice a month over the last year all the while seeing a decline in service and quality. Sept 9,2011 will be the last time I dine at Jim's for the following reasons. With the release of the new menu I decided I would try a couple of new things. I decided to order fried green tomatoes as a starter. When I received them half only had breading on one side while the other half was still doughy and raw, I am not one to send food back but raw is unacceptable. For my meal I chose the rueben because it looked AMAZING in the picture. However when I received the sandwhich it looked reminiscent of the cancer patients of ruebens. The corned beef was a mere ounce of leather that the cook tried to pass off as beef. The bread had been left under the heating lamps while the other meals finished, leaving me with something that needed to have water added to it just to make it edible. Again not ranting I just don't want people to waste their hard earned money on a product one could easily assemble from left over scraps found in the garbage. To top it off the prices got raised with the new remodeling. So with the new higher prices I would much rather go to a place that will offer me the quality I am paying for. read more

Just had breakfast at Jim's.......Not So Good :-( We waited a long time to get our food......when I watched as it sat for at least 15 minutes with the lady directing the food out of the kitchen pick it up and put it back down 3 times. When our waitress finally brought our food...she said sorry they missed your french toast order, it will be out soon.... Everything, including the french toast was stone cold and the bacon was half done, with grease not dripping off it but solidified on it! We have been before and were sitting where we could see food that others had sent back.........it fell on the floor and the boys in the kitchen picked it off the floor and put it back on the grill, then sent it back out to the person who sent it back! Saw 2 big signs on the front and side of building saying 2x2x2 special. Went in during the specials time and was told by the waitress that they were not doing it. She acted like she had no idea what I was talking about. Same with another worker til I went outside to recheck my reading. Ended up leaving after showing them what I read. Had lunch there yesterday. Got the meatloaf special. Let me say that mine is better. Kind of dry, only a spoonful of sauce on top. I had to cover it in catsup to eat it. Mashed potatoes tasted like an instant/real combo....weren't too bad accept they were covered in a jar brown gravy. Got the fried okra. Can't go wrong with the frozen in a bag okra. Packaged rolls that had been heated. My daughter got some kind of omelet. She really liked it. Under $15 for people. All things considered I will try the place again. read more

I had been wanting to go there for some time and had the opportunity yesterday. I had heard that they have good chicken fried steak. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak dinner and my husband ordered the omelette with hash browns and two pancakes. After waiting for an incredibly long time for our meals to arrive, I was served chicken fried CHICKEN instead of chicken fried STEAK. The server argued with me and insisted that chicken fried STEAK is CHICKEN! I explained that steak is beef and chicken is poultry, She kept insisting that I was wrong and that steak IS chicken! I said that I ordered a "cow" and got a "bird" but she finally went to the manager who said that I was correct, took my plate away, and ordered a chicken fried steak for me without asking. (I really didn't want to wait any longer!) She brought me the steak which tasted ok--not excellent and my husband asked when he was going to get his pancakes! When she brought the bill, the manager told me that she had subtracted 20% from the total! We did not leave happy and we will not be back! read more

My friend and I ate at the Jim's Diner on NW 63rd and Meridian and was served by Danni for breakfast two consecutive week days; one of us took advantage of the $2.22 special and one of us ate the std breakfast plate; in both cases the eggs were cooked as we ordered them; Danni kept the coffee coming and checked on us frequently. We would definitely come back and if Danni is working would request her waiting on us. The only caveat I would give this restaurant is their omelets leave something to be desired; all other breakfast items are reasonably priced and properly prepared. read more

I really don't see what others see in this place. I see an awesome place with great service and fantastic food. I just started going here weekly a few weeks ago, and I've got to say that everything is what you'd expect when it comes to eggs and bacon. The biscuit and gravy is one like I've never had before. I'm a northern guy and I like thick sausage laced gravy. This isn't the same as back home, but it is really good. I recently took my wife with me because I kept telling her that it was so good. She got the Belgian waffle and she said that it was the best waffle she had in her entire life. She always orders a waffle everywhere we go. Go try it out, you won't be disappointed. read more

My family and I stopped in to eat breakfast. The customer service is nonexistent. We walked in and a woman was at the cash register and didn't even acknowledge us. The sign said wait to be seated so we did. Then a line of people came to pay. After about 5 minutes I finally interrupted the woman to ask if we need to seat ourselves or if someone could seat us. She just pointed somewhere and said go sit there. So we sat at an empty table we waited about 10 minutes and no service. It's absolutely unorganized and the servers are oblivious to their surroundings. I have worked as a server for 9 years and a restaurant manager for 8 years. I just don't understand how out of at least 9 employees that were at the food expo area not one person came to help us. Obviously Jims doesn't teach team work. I don't understand how the servers make money because they obviously aren't making it on tips from happy customers. Something has to change at this restaurant because just having good food won't be a good enough reason for people to keep coming back. read more

Have eaten a few times now at Jim's Diner. So my experience is a combination of visits. Reason I give it only two stars is because of the service, which I will get to in a moment. Food. Overall, great. If you like comfort food, they have it. Chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken are both worth ordering. Breakfast, the ham is large and very tasty with the two egg breakfast. Only pullback is that are really cheap on the toast. Only one slice. The only diner/restaurant that does this in my many years of experience. Same with Biscuit and gravy. one biscuit and barely enough gravy to cover it. Overall food score alone, would be 4 and a half stars. Now for service. It is atrocious. waitstaff cannot seem to have any set tables, and you have to grab one if you want anything. My sister and I sat for almost 15 minutes before someone came to take drink orders and we were told someone would be with us shortly. 15 minutes later, the waitress that had passed back and forth at least 10 times finally came and took orders. Got our salads... then could not get attention of waitress so I waved my cap over and over to get attention of owner who kept looking away. She finally had to acknowledge me since the entire place was looking at me, but instead of coming herself, she told one of the waitresses to come over. We finally got our crackers for the salad. When our orders came out, I did not get what I ordered. When I finally got the attention of the waitress again, she said she gave the right order to the cooks. Then there was much yelling between her and the cooks. She did come back and apologize for the order mixup, and said she did order the chicken fried chicken my sister and I ordered. I would say we were there about an hour before I finally got my order. got a box and took it home. So, for service, I would not give them any stars, therefore overall, a two star place. If you do not mind really sucky service, but pretty decent food if the order is correct, go for the food. read more

This place in the past was a nice restaurant for a good hot home cooked meal. The new owner is downright rude, hateful and definitely not customer friendly. We've had our meetings there for over a year and we always ate and tipped the waitress that was overwhelmingly busy. The new owner had the audacity to tell us we were taking away from her customers, like we weren't paying customers and when we said we would take our group elsewhere she thanked us. Who thanks people for taking our business elsewhere, not a good respective owner, they would want our business. After telling my mom about this she said the same thing has happened to her and a group she's in. So new Owner, you're the common denominator here, so if your business goes down the tubes, thank you!! read more

I use to eat here a lot back when the service was great but over the last year the service has really gone down so last week I tried it one last time and I'm telling you now never ever again.. Everything changed for me when certain servers left because now the place is a mess.. The food isn't made from scratched like they claim, I've watched the cooks suck their fingers then touch peoples food, the silverware is never clean, they have a horrible roach problem, one of the stalls in the ladies restroom doesn't work, in the summer the owner cuts all the air off and customers have to deal with the heat and flies all around them, service is slow and a lot of the servers are just plain rude and the head server is one of the rudest people I've ever meet.. She talked down to the people working under her and the way she talks to some of the customers is unbelievable. So if you feel like eating warmed up food and dealing with horrible customer service then this is the place for you.. As for me I think i'll take my money elsewhere read more
