I am not in the habit of chasing down professionals in order to do business. He retorted that he is sorry I had trouble contacting them. (No statement as to why my calls were not returned, or that he got my messages) But, then stated he was "declining my request". That's professional! It's been a real challenge to find anyone that really understood how our system was set up given the DIY nature of the original installation. I left a message on Thursday and Steve returned my call promptly that evening and came out first thing Saturday morning to do an inspection. He spent a good hour and a half going over all of the components and analyzing what was causing certain of the jets not to function correctly. While we almost certainly will need more extensive work done in the future that will involve ripping up concrete, Steve was able to at least adjust some of the various settings enough that we can enjoy the spa again. His pricing was more than reasonable for the work done and the time spent. It was obvious how much experience Steve has and he took the time to walk us through what he was doing, even to the point of showing us some actual sample parts similar to those in our spa which he had in his bag and demonstrating how they work so we could better understand the inner workings of the plumbing and the jets. Honestly, what a pleasure to deal with a consummate expert who is willing to share his knowledge. Even more importantly, I did NOT feel like he was talking down to me as a female homeowner, which tends to be a recurrent problem for us women when engaging with certain contractors. We got quotes from several pool remodeling companies and Smart Swim came in right in the middle. We are strong believers on "you get what you pay for," and opted to go with them even though they were not the cheapest. From beginning to end, the guys at Smart Swim were easy to work with and truly wanted our project to come out great. After 30 years, it was time for our pool to have a remodel! Through the remodel, it was uncovered that we had many severe leaks, down to the rebar that needed to be fixed in some areas. Sam was great at making sure we understood the severity and that we were okay with any new costs that needed to be added. Not only did they do our pool, but also installed turf by the pool area and put pavers all around the pool and yard area. We also got the new gray gate installed from them as well, to replace the wooden fence in the yard (between the pool). **Noting that the perimeter wall/wooden top was painted black and sanded/stained by a different company. We truly appreciate their hard work and even when we had an immediate death in the family during their time working on our project, they were very respectful and gave us some space as needed. There is now a ghastly looking visible patchwork looking circle around the light fixture. He didn't even bother to replace the cover with the white covering, it's just a dark metal cover. It's appalling spending all this money on a pool and for them to leave you with a giant blemish and a flippant attitude about it. I do NOT recommend hiring this company. We are so disappointed.

If I'm being honest I've actually been more impressed with Avanti and Bernard more when it comes to the latter which is what I'm basing this review on. If I were reviewing on the process of building/permitting it would be a different score for sure. So again this is based on the final product and support afterwords. IMO Bernard is an old school pool builder, he knows what needs to be done, how to do it, and doesn't overcomplicate things. He stays calm and works on solutions instead of trying to find a way to blame others. There are some drawback to that in that he does a lot verbally and just gets it done, but sometimes that leads to miscommunications. This happened a few times during the building process, each time I was like oh no here we go it's going to be a fight. But each time he impressed me and just solved it quickly and efficiently. I've waited a couple of years since my pool was built to review because I knew we'd inevitably run into problems. Everyone talks about their great warranty until you have a problem. Then they usually start with the cost of the call or why this is your fault or why that particular component isn't covered, diagnosis fees etc. That has absolutely not been the case with Bernard. I've had weird electronic issues that he's walked me through resetting, I've had a light go out a year and a half after completion, ordered within 10 minutes of me texting him and installed within a week. Just recently I'm having water flow sensor issues which I was almost sure wouldn't be covered, instead of what I was sure was going to be bad news he again texted me back within 10 minutes, asked a couple basic questions, and said yes it's covered I know what it is and ordered the part. To me this is a 10/10 builder. The finished product is beautiful and has really impressed me over the past couple of years. He really made my vision come to life and convinced me we could do it even though I was doubtful with the tiny space we have. He completely transformed my backyard from a place we spent almost no time to an oasis we absolutely love. I received about 7 quotes before we decided to go with Bernard. His pricing was super competitive and I believe a lot of that was due to the fact I was speaking to an owner instead of a middleman salesman. Over two years later and I'm 100% sure I made the correct decision.
