Coming to Jim's for breakfast remains in our rotation of getting a solid breakfast and/or brunch for us. We love the pancakes, scrambles, hash browns, and even their ice box pies they offer here. Service is always friendly and I really appreciate the staff's promptness in getting us seated even when it is busy on the weekend. Since my last review (around COVID) the layout remains with the shields up/separating the booths along the windows. The open dining area is spacious and they have great counter service too if you are coming in with one or two people in your party. Parking is easy and this location is surrounded by a thrift store, dollar store, and even some local eateries. Amazing spot for a classic, cozy breakfast any time of day! My brother was visiting and wanted a homey, sit down restaurant with good eggs and hash browns. We found Jim's online and decided to go around 5 to 6pm on a rainy evening. From the moment we sat down, we were greeted by the most wonderful, pleasant waitress. She was so graceful and kind, which immediately set the tone for a lovely experience. We ordered eggs, hash browns, and bacon, and while we were debating on pancakes, our waitress highly recommended them. WOW. Best decision ever. The pancakes were absolutely perfect. They were soft, fluffy, and so delicious. The butter was real butter, not margarine, which made it even better. I was only planning to take a bite, but I ended up eating the entire stack. It completely satisfied our craving for breakfast at night. Such a great experience all around with delicious food, warm service, and a comforting atmosphere. We visited this location yesterday. It was the first visit in about ten months, because we're spending most of our time in Houston. Nevertheless, Jim's should be a regular GoTo for American food, particularly for breakfast. My brother-in-law likes to order breakfast no matter what time of day it is. It's sad to watch a restaurant fall so far. It's like watching a family member getting old. Getting what you ask for is difficult. On occasion I've had to get utensils or napkins myself. Today I tried again. I got seated waited about 7 minutes then someone got seated on the neat isle and they took his drink order immediately. So I left. Went to Donn's next door and they serve breakfast all day. And on the plus side Donn's pancakes were much better. Maybe when Jim's gets a new manager it might get better. But in the meantime, I'll stay away. No need to get upset trying to eat. read more

As always, Jim's does not disappoint. As a matter of fact, this mornings experience included the assistant manager, Nicholas, coming around and checking on everyone's meal and experience. We had the Pioneer breakfast, which is one biscuit and two eggs, and the two eggs and ham with rye toast. As always, everything came out good. Service was also very good. read more

I think they make the best grilled cheese sandwiches, if you like the nostalgic sort that are just plain white bread and American cheese, because their bread is a little bit sweeter than others I've had. Jim's brings back childhood memories for me! The service was a bit slow for the amount of customers dining in. The dining area was clean. You can sit at a table or booth. Upon arrival we were promptly met and brought to a table. The hostess as well as our waitress Camilla were so nice! Camilla's service was above and beyond! Our drinks were brought out promptly and Camilla made sure to continue to check in but not rush us for our food orders. For drinks we both got ice teas, unsweetened with lemon and an Arnold Palmer! Both were crisp and refreshing! In addition to our teas we got water, which was okay. The food came very quickly! We ordered the sirloin steak and breakfast which included the steak, 2 eggs any way, and for sides I chose hashbrowns and biscuits. The breakfast tacos with potato, egg, and bacon. And for dessert carrot cake. The sirloin breakfast was a STEAL! (13.99) it was a great amount of food and let me full and satisfied! The steak was cooked pretty well! And I can't imagine a better steak for the price. The eggs I ordered over medium appeared to be a little closer to over easy. The home fries were like a potato cake and crisped to perfection! The biscuits were light and fluffy and came with butter and jelly. They were flakey and delicious but we wish there were more options for different jelly's on the table. The breakfast tacos are an insane deal! Two tacos BUSTING out the seams for 6.49! The tortillas were strong enough to hold in all the toppings and not fall apart! They were cooked to perfection. The only downside is there is not avocado even as an option to add on! The carrot cake was a little dry but it was decent! It was extremely cold from being in the fridge and the icing was a little bit crumbly. Maybe skip on this! The table setting was complete with sugar packets, salt, pepper, cholula, Tabasco and Jim's branded ketchup which was an ADORABLE customized touch. Would only add extra jelly packets for a variety of flavors. The interior is a bit outdated but I think that's kind of the vibe you are expecting coming here. Recently moved to Dripping Springs from Cali; and I was craving a charbroiled burger. We arrived approximately 6:30 pm and were quickly seated. Ambiance is casual and friendly. Music was not very loud. Sometimes you just want to eat in a quiet surrounding. Server was polite and attentive. The menu is an all American diner style "comfort" food. Perfect! Have eaten at Jim's many times over the years. Today I decided to stop for breakfast before heading to work, ordering one of my fav's, Sirloin & Eggs breakfast with toast. I am so surprised that in this day and age that ANY restaurant would be putting margarine on their bread products. Jim's does that and that is just wrong!! Hey Jim's??...Get your nutritionist (hopefully you have one) and your food buyer(s) together for come to Jesus meeting. Margarine is basically one molecule away from plastic. Yes!!!....PLASTIC!!! I came back here out of nostalgia more than anything; I loved Jim's 24 hour old-skool diners when I first started coming to Austin in the 90s,& continues visiting sporadically up until the pandemic. I wanted a walk down memory lane. Thankfully, my go-to order of the Mushroom Swiss burger is still on the menu! Our appetizer of onion rings came out cold,& not quite crispy enough. Disappointing. Our burgers were tasty, but the fries were sort of undercooked, too. The restaurants really need to take down their old Open 24 Hours sign as, like all the places in Austin that used to be 24 hour, they apparently can't do that any more because "Something something COVID." The excuse is wearing thin after three plus years of them all being open and ready to take your money, but NOT offering services they just cannot be bothered with anymore. read more

I love the ambiance here, every time I come here the staff is so welcoming and friendly. This place has become a weekly regular for me, the food is always great and the portions are perfect. I have had several different waiters but have never had one like Ana, I know I am in great hands when she serves me. I absolutely love Jim's. The service is fast and efficient The waitresses are always there to fill up your coffee cup and to take your order quickly. Food typically comes out in about half the time you would expect it to so you know it's hot and fresh. It's always impressive how fast they get it out. This is an old style diner so little bit of a throwback to what you're used to getting with all the new yuppie restaurants in Austin. This place has stood the test of time and there's many locations all over Austin and San Antonio. The menu is your typical diner / American food. I prefer the chicken fried steak or the catfish plate. The coffee is always hot and rather strong all day and night. The breakfast menu is definitely up to par and they know how to take care of business. You can get in and out of here in about 20 minutes if you're in a hurry and it's the same bacon and eggs that you're going to get any higher in end joint in South Austin for half the price. What a great classic American Diner. The coffee is always hot and the service is always amazing. Jim's definitely goes above and beyond your expectations because it is always clean and the folks working there are always pleasant and easy going. Shrimp and catfish are my favorite and it's only $10. I make sure to give a big tip of course. The coffee is excellent and they are quick to refill it. Went here for breakfast on a Thursday morning. Had to wait about 10 minutes even though there were a lot of empty tables. It looks like a typical diner. The waitress was very nice. I ordered the senior ham and cheese omelet with hash browns and biscuits. The omelet and biscuits were okay but I didn't care for the hash browns at all. They weren't cooked all the way and didn't have any flavor. My husband had the Rustler platter. It had ham, bacon, sausage, 3 eggs and hash browns. He said it was okay. Noah was our waiter, good guy. he had a humor a can agree with, and made jokes to lighten our mood. when he came with our food we presented us with a meme from TikTok that I was fond of, 'When You Think Your Waiter Is Coming With Your Food' and it brought a generous amount of laughter to the table. Also, Aside from having an !AWSOME! waiter the food we got was also delicious. As well as the Oreo milkshake I got for dessert, when being given the milkshake I was told about 'How the fight happened with it,' and how Noah couldn't make a milkshake by himself now.
