I had the back Rack in the sweet sauce with the house made slaw and baked beans. The slaw was very nice. The beans had a good flavor but I like the sauce a bit thicker. The ribs...oh, the ribs. Perfection on a plate. A generous portion of 7 back ribs. Nice and meaty, not dry, falling off the bone. Amazing. All that with a drink for $25. Yes, it looks like a dive from the outside. I'm a rib and bbq snob. I have tasted bbq all over the country including Texas, Memphis, Carolina, and Kansas City. I was visiting Augustana and wanted some good local fare. This didn't disappoint. Classic local rib joint restaurant, friendly front counter staff. I asked what rib speciality was best, got the back ribs, hot sauce. Wow. I opened the box of half rack ribs to find them soaked in a spicy tomato based sauce. Unique. And so good. Meaty ribs, great pull off of bone. Tasty. I got Mac and cheese and baked bean sides. Also delicious. I could only eat 1/2 the ribs for lunch and had the rest for dinner the next night. I'm a fan!!!! read more

I was introduced to Jim's amazing barbecue in 1979. Their place was just a construction trailer in a gravel lot. We had barbecue beef sandwiches (2 each). I was 16 and I was completely baptized in the House of Barbecue. That was my lunch every friday until 1981, when I left for the navy. My mom would buy the sauce and ship it to me on my birthday in san diego. (San Diego doesnt know Barbecue). To this day, Jim's is the platinum standard of barbecue. I have been to all the barbecue hubs across the USA, and they dont hold a candle to Jim's. When I returned on leave, I was in my dress whites and went to Jim's. Jim's momma was there and she remembered me! I ordered and she didnt let me pay. It was like coming home, and I will never forget. By the way, when I was 16, I was one of the few Caucasian/white boys to know about Jim's, and I will forever treasure the food and the experience. I still try to order sauce on myt birthday, and have passed it forward to my son and daughter. Nothing is as good as getting ribs, chicken and beef DIRACTLY from the MASTER.... Hadn't eaten here in years. I had the 4 rib sandwich and my wife had the pulled pork sandwich. Don't get me wrong the main thing, the meat is good. It's well smoked and flavored. My ribs had a bit more fat and gristle than I would have liked maybe, but not bad. What was a bit overwhelming was the sweetness of the mild BBQ sauce...WHOA! Now, that's some sugar. Neither of us quite expected that. I like a sweeter BBQ sauce, but.......Well, after the first couple of bites you sort of get past that because the meat is good. Disappointed with the fries. There are made in-house, quite sure but someone started this trend of leaving the skins on at many restaurants today. It really doesn't work for us. Out of an entire large plate found about 7-8 edible fries. It just really doesn't work. Some were short, hard pieces. Some were soggy/cold. The fries were a fail. But, the meat and ribs are good. Was it $35 good for the meat and the drinks? No, I'd have to say not really. For the future we would probably order just ribs to go and then later add our own sauce and sides. read more

This is probably the best rib joint I've ever eaten in. A quad cities fixture, your meal comes with Wonder bread. They don't have a liquor license but you can bring your own. These ribs are the real deal. Slow smoked all day, chewy meaty and delicious. Great family owned shop that is a great alternative to Famous Daves or some more corporate chain. This 2019 update is to say the quality here remains the same. I used to live here and now just come here once a year for the BiX and the only thing I need to do is eat at Jim's. It is not a fancy restaurant and not located in the best neighbor hood but it is certainly the best ribs place I've ever been to. Their service is sub par. You will quickly realize that upon sitting down. However when the ribs are brought out and in front of you, you forget about anything else. I've never heard anyone say anything bad about this place. I grew up across the river and I have heard from everyone that this place has great BBQ. I finally got a chance to try the BBQ, however I wish I would have skipped the place. I am guessing this place is not located in a great area based on the way everything looks. The staff were very nice and the place wasn't packed on a Saturday for lunch. I wanted to try the ribs. I got the hot and regular baby back ribs. They say they are guaranteed to leave your taste buds satisfied, but I was not satisfied with the presentation or quality. The ribs look like they are finished in a oven. I didn't care for the sauce and the ribs were not very good. My ribs definitely didn't look like the slabs online on the menu. I wish I would have skipped the ribs. The pork sandwich didn't have much flavor and the sauce seemed greasy. I was left thinking maybe I came on the wrong day. Lived in the Quad Cities my whole life and have never been. Pulled pork sandwich was good but ordered baked beans as a side. Father in laws baked beans were cold too and van camps pork and beans would have tasted better. Daughter had the French fries that looked amazing but had zero taste. Need seasoning on then. Not a good experience. The food was below average. We got ribs, chicken, and pork sandwiches. The ribs were so bad we ended up throwing some of them away. They were dry, chewy, and not very flavorful. We started calling them "rib jerky". I've had better ribs at Famous Dave's, to give an idea how bad these were! The pork sandwiches came with buns totally soaked in some sort of liquid where you couldn't even pick up the sandwich to eat it. The chicken was average, at best. Service was questionable. We called a couple days ahead to place the order since we felt it was a large order (8 entrees). And they either lost or completely forgot the order when we came to pick it up. Nice. So Jim's even a vegetarian couldn't stay vegetarian with your ribs in the house!!!! Hollar about the incredible tenderness of the meat of the ribs is just like butter. AND now we can start on the sauce oh my goodness gracious as I dance tippy toe to the best sauce ever created. And I am not exaggerating. They offer a mild sauce. Drove two hours with a buddy to eat lunch on a Saturday. Walked in, passing some people with takeout, chairs were blocking the entrance to the dining area. The staff was all hanging out behind the counter acting like they were at grade school recess. We came here for lunch one day and got the 4 Rib platter with one side and a drink. The waitress was very helpful in steering us the right way. I really love going to the mom and pop places that care about their customers. They have two types of sauce (hot or regular) that they will put on the ribs before they come out. We ordered and got our food less than 15 minutes later. While not the fall off the bone ribs I was expecting. They were quite meaty and tender. The other thing to note is that they are not cooked in the sauce. it is just pt on before getting to your table. My side was the mac and cheese, while good, it was kind of small. The waitress, who apparently makes some of the desserts that were for sale by the cash register, was very helpful in explaining the menu and the different types of ribs they had. This place had the small town feel to it, everyone seemingly having a good time while eating some very good food. The ribs were very good and one of them actually did fall off the bone (the other 3, not so much). But they were very tasty! I got the hot sauce on the ribs and it was really good. You can pretty well rest assured that when the parking lot is full, you are at the right place. We were here on a Sunday night. Table of 5, and despite the lot being full, we were seated right away. Our waitress was great, and very patient with us. She highlighted a couple entrees and pointed out for our group size 2 more things to consider. Visiting family the other day, and they were cravin some good ole BBQ! Thanks Yelp, for helping us find Jim's Ribs! We went family style, and ordered HALF the menu in the LARGEST portions to share! This is all you need to know : Beef Back Ribs ($24.99). These were PERFECT. Super tender, fall off the bone, with tons of flavor. They have a good BBQ sauce here, and since the meat had lots of smokey flavor, it was a delight! This is really the only thing i will STRONGLY recommend here...with the rest being good to meh. Go with the Beef ribs! Also tried the Whole Chicken ($12.35). Great rub/sauce/flavor on the chicken. It was cooked well, but some of it was dry inside...they should inject here! This would be recommended, esp at the price point. The Pork Back Ribs ($24.99). These were good, but a little tough. Wish they were cooked a little longer...but the flavor was good. I didn't care much for their Pulled Pork either, so maybe stick with the Beef/Chicken IMO. For the sides: French Fries ($7.50 XL). I love fries with the skins left on em...these were yummy!
