Ordered 2 subs and I was directed to Grubhub as delivery company. I never received the order-- the website posted the wrong address, not the one I inputted on the order and it was delivered somewhere at least a mile away. Neither Jim's or Grubhub would RE-deliver or refund my money. I will never order from Jim's again and I most certainly will never use Grubhub. Total mismanagement and horrible customer service from both. Hope the people who received my subs enjoyed their free food...but don't you think they could have said something? I give this a 4 only for the service! I was not drunk enough to enjoy the food which garners a solid 2.7 stars. This is DRUNK PEOPLE FOOD. Don't get me wrong, inebriation would make this straight up heaven in my mouth. But sober, um, no thanks. My main squeeze had the philly steak sub which as we were told, is what Jim, or big Jimbo as I call him...is famous for. Lesson learned, don't trust the locals their taste buds are dead from all the buffalo sauce they consume. It was okay. We went here on a double date. (I know, fancy, am I right?) The other couple split a large chicken wing sub because they were 1.) cheap 2.) so in love they share food and the same taste 3.) weren't very hungry because they stuffed themselves silly at the wedding or 4.) all of the above. But they ate the whole sub, didn't complain about it and are still alive, they did not say however this was the best sub in all of Erie county. Me: you know by now I am picky and always pick the wrong dang thing to eat...have no fear dear followers I didn't let you down. Whatever you do don't get a taco from here. It's NOT Jim's Taco Out. The meat was weird. Like really weird. Tangy. Like a Sloppy Joe in a tortilla. And American cheese rolled up in a tortilla. That's not a taco that's an up scaled Sloppy Joe (a Mexican Sloppy Jose if you will) they forgot my sour cream, it may have helped...but everyone took a bite of the alleged "taco" and we all found it inedible. Service. Like a well oiled machine. Customer service on par. These guys deal with drunks all night long and don't lose their cool. They aren't surly. They are very accommodating. And if you are sober they really go all out! 5 star service, I am telling you...but the food brings down the star rating. And the ambiance has some blaring music courtesy of the bar next door with plenty of space to dance if the mood strikes and if drunk people aren't already taking advantage of the dance floor (aka drunk floor) Tip: be drunk, be hungry, act sober. read more

The classic Jims Steakout! The only one that I thought existed until i graduated from Hutch Tech LOL. I actually have never been disappointed at this location. Fries, hoagies, burgers....can't go wrong. Of course the size of this location could be a lot larger. It's like a hole in the wall. It can get very crowed in here at times and it's annoying. However, you never really have to wait too long for your food. They're pretty efficient workers. And I also would like to add that today when me and the hubs ordered food we got home and scarfed down our deluxe steak fries and deluxe hoagie. We got a good amount of food and the flavor was jammed packed. When I called back to demand to know what master of the grill made our food m, I was told that it was the manager Aaron!! In town on business and wanted something for dinner. Not something large... so I started looking online for places near my hotel. Stumbled across the listing for Jim's, looked at the menu - yeah, a steak sub! THAT'S what I want. Oh, man. Was it ever good! I called in my order for a 4" Frenchy and Jamal had it ready when I got there. I'm a bit weird - I don't put cheese on my cheese steaks, and some places overcook the meat and it's dry. NOT JIM'S. This was nice and juicy and flavorful. Perfect and exactly the way I wanted it! And those FRIES... I swear they had to have been cut from a potato when I called in my order. Hot and delicious. Not greasy, not squishy - these were definitely freshly fried. Definitely NOT premade, not frozen - they were wonderful. Oh, and while they did have music playing in the background, it wasn't loud at all. Nothing else just to taste the beef.These young children are on the phone blasting loud music. Porfavor turn down the loud music so you can take my order. These young children on Chippewa. All year the sample low service. The location near Sheridan not the same problem. You don't want say the young staff is targeting certain customers . 27 dollars spent Friday 60 dollars spent sabado at this location. That's 90 dollars spent at this Chippewa location. The young staff refused refund or correct the order. Money was spent at this location. Young staff do realize there service is low and grimey. Will not purchase this year at this location. While the sandwiches that I got were good, I had to wait for over 30 minutes in order to get a mere 12" sandwich. The grill wasn't working and they waited 20 minutes to let me know, I'm not upset by the quality; however the wait times and the lack of quality customer service are the cause of the rating. If I could only pick one thing to eat for the rest of my life it would be a Chicken Finger Sub. Jim's is definitely one of the best places to get one in the b-lo, but every pizzeria or sub shop keeps this gem on their menu. It's chicken fingers dipped in hot sauce (buffalo sauce, probably Franks Red Hot) on a huge soft NY style sub roll with cheese, lettuce, tomato and blue cheese (no ranch here!). This is Buffalo cuisine at it's best! I think Jim's Steakout might even be able to take on the Anchor bar in terms of authenticity. This review is part of a trifecta of Jim's Steakout with three different locations - this review being the one on Chippewa. We discovered Jim's last summer on our trip to the south when we visited a location on Sheridan Drive in Amherst and re-visited that one on June 6th. The third is located on Allen St visited on this same day (Mar). Backstory: During a day trip from Toronto (Mar 13/14) we chose this location as a lunchtime spot as it was close to Peace Bridge. It had snowed a fair bit the prior day (PITA on the QEW) so there was a fair amount of snow making street parking a wee bit difficult. Parking: There is no free parking so you either need a meter or a lot. If you drive just east a bit along Chippewa - there is a high rise parking facility at the SE corner of Franklin/Chippewa (Google it). Fairly priced - but cash only (signs say it everywhere and I told the guy on the exit I only had a credit card as a joke bit). We were there an hour or less and paid $2. IMO this location focuses on daily local business foot traffic. Very small with stools around wall mounted tables. I may be wrong but didn't see any access to a bathroom but possible there is a "business shared" facility somewhere. Didn't need them so don't quote me. A cubby-hole. The Order: We ordered two 12" Philly Cheese on white and a 12" Chicken Cheese Steak on white less items. Both tasted so/so and the order was correct. Payment: They took VISA. Hours: Unsure of the hours for this location. Gut suggests begin in downtown probably similar to the businesses around them. ** No Sub of the Week Discount ** A large problem with this location was that there appears to be no "Sub of the Week" discount. Let me explain: 1) We visited this location - bought the subs as stated and received no discount. 2) We went to a bar on Allen and noticed a sign on the Jim's there "Sub of the week - Philly". The bill prints and shows Sub of Week and a 2.11 discount. 3) I verified the Chippewa bill - no discount. Email to head office - asking - no response. 4) Day trip on June 6th to the same bar on Allen - that Jim's again had "Sub of the week - Philly" but we didn't visit that location that day. 5) Later on June 6th - visit to the Sheridan/Amherst location - no signage of Sub of the week but in the system "Philly" was the sub of week and we received a 2.11 discount. 6) Ergo - the Chippewa location does not participate with the sub of the week discounts. If I lived in Buffalo, knew about the discounts and never got such a discount at the Chippewa location - in principle I would avoid and review as such. If the cost of doing business downtown is a reason - then they should increase the prices unilaterally for all items to account for the higher rent, but still participate in Sub of the Week. If I worked around there - I would go because of the discount even if the prices were a bit higher. Just saying. TO ME: This is a HUGE issue so much that this alone will ensure I will never re-visit. ** Trifecta - So based on the three locations we visited, this was the least favorite (no discount aside). The flavor was so/so - essentially not as tasty as the others. Further, the stools were a turn off - but that is due to the size of this location. I used to believe that the flavor and aroma of a Jim's steak sub was the very key to unlocking the door to blissful inner peace, but nowadays I think that if there were such a door, a steak sub from Jim's is better suited to be shoved in between the doorjamb and the door to keep it from closing and locking again. I stopped into the Chippewa location to pick up a Frenchy last night. It was chewy. I guess its made the same way it always has been, but perhaps my taste buds have just grown up to the point were I can't tolerate it any longer. After all, its frozen beef warmed up on the grill, so I suppose I should have never expected that much to begin with. Let's be honest and judge this place off of it's bread and butter. Jim's caters to the late night drunk crowd. Meat, cheese, bread and grease culminate into 6- 12 inches of alcohol soaking goodness! Maybe I'm spoiled being from NYC but unfortunately, although not terrible, Jim's just really didn't hit the spot for me. First, I was perplexed at how I was still hungry after a 12' inch buffalo chicken sub. They didn't really skimp out on anything, I guess I just didn't really get full from it. The taste was pretty average, not bad but not amazing. Maybe I just wasn't really drunk enough to be there or maybe it was an off night. The sub just didn't sit right. This business could use more professionalism in their training. I went in to order a 12 inch turkey sub and after waiting about 20 minutes . I asked if this sandwich would be ready soon. I gave my receipt number to which, the sandwich maker , could not find it. After a few more orders were received after mine, I asked for a refund. It was given after I explained I never got the sandwich. After leaving the shop, the sandwich maker came out and accused me of never giving him the receipt number, and then I was told " to get the fuck outta my face bro". After having one too many drinks celebrating Montreal Canadien's ass-kicking of the Sabres, a friend and I stumbled in (literally) for a quick meal @ 3:00am. Given the name, all we focused on was the sammiches. I had no idea until reading the reviews that this place had chicken fingers or tacos. The place has a steak hoagie sammich with fried mushrooms and onions and called Frenchy or Frenchie. Anyhow, given that my hockey team had continued the misery that is the Sabres' existence, I had to order it in honour of the on-ice victory. It was a flavour bomb that complemented the gin tonics, rum and cokes mixture that was sloshing around in my belly. As my buddy commented that "White bread never tasted so good" all I could do was nod as I picked up the juicy steak that had dropped onto the wax wrapping and pop it into my mouth. This isn't a drunk shout out. It really is a good sammy and they cook it only after you order for maximum tastiness. I plan to go back next time I'm in Buffalo. read more

Buffalo residents swear by Jim's Steakout (and Mighty Taco). Unlike the latter, there is actually good reason for the buzz. I've been to Jim's for all kinds of reasons - lunch, dinner, late night grub - and it's satisfied me each time. My only regret is that I haven't been able to try more varieties of sub or the boneless wings. I have gotten the Stinger, Chicken in the Grass, and Veggie Hoagie, and all are just delicious. The portions are more than generous, and for those with smaller appetites the sub can make up two meals. I also had my first poutine at Jim's, and I was not disappointed. Now with all those positives, why is it still just four stars from me? Well I think it is tough to give a fast food joint five stars, and the bar is slightly higher in that the food will have to blow me away to get that last star. And that is true here, where I would be very unlikely to dine in at Jim's because there are no tables, just some uncomfortably high stools and wall tables. Maybe one day Jim's will be a place to take your date. Or, more likely, not. read more

This is probably the worst service I have ever had. I have never been here and ordered a stinger. There were clearly questions about the sandwich that needed to be asked and he just stood there. I had to ask him if there was anything he needed to ask me and he said I mean look at the menu. He had a attitude about everything and when I asked for a manger 3 others claimed to be a manager until 5 minutes later the actual manager came out. So unprofessional and no rude. The Main Street location is THE WORST! I will never go to this location again. They consistently get orders wrong. This last time prompted this review. Both sandwich's where not made as ordered (missing cheese, which I was charged extra for, and missing steak sauce on the side). Discovered all this when we got the order home. The fries in the two poutine orders where not fully cooked either, still raw in the center. I really like their steak subs, but I don't recommend you eat at this location. My buddies & I do a hockey themed road trip every year in November. When the schedule came out and we saw our NJ Devils were playing the Buffalo Sabres in Buffalo, we didn't hesitate and booked our tickets & hotel for the game. On this trip in years past, we have been to Detroit & Chicago, have always known our place as out of towners and have had a great time in each city. We were excited to get to see what Buffalo has to offer this year. After the Devils Vs. Sabres game, we headed to Chippewa street for a few post game drinks. We were still in our NJ Devils gear & as we went to each bar, we expected there to be some hecklers who we of course playfully discussed why our team is better. Before we called it a night, we saw that Jim's Steakout was open and without hesitation made our way over. As we were entering, a few Buffalo fans heckled us and we of course playfully heckled back. The exchange between us and the Buffalo fans lasted about 4 seconds at the entrance of the restaurant. As we got to the counter, I spoke with my friend about what we should get to eat - as we were discussing what we wanted, the gentlemen behind the counter mentioned that he can not serve us. When we asked why, he responded with I shit you not, "because you guys are rowdy & not from here" As you may imagine, this frustrated myself along with my friends. We plead our case as we thought this was extremely unfair - at this time, we were politely asking why he wouldn't serve us and he just kept responding to the fact that we were being rowdy. At that point, I asked if I could speak to his manager to which his response was "no because he is going to tell you the same thing I just said." - (pretty sure that's not how you talk to a guest of your establishment.) We left the restaurant frustrated - we decided to call the restaurant from outside as we were not welcome inside anymore. The gentlemen who we were dealing with answered the phone - I politely asked to speak with his manager....he hung up on me. Finally, the manager came to us outside who at first had the same rude mentality as the guy inside but realized we were actually nice, level headed individuals. We explained to him what happened with the gentlemen at the front desk and he explained to us that they get a lot of rowdy customers due to the amount of bars in the area - which is understandable (why couldn't the guy at the front do that?). That being said, it is 100% not okay to just kick out every customer and be extremely rude to them on a hunch. I always saw restaurants to be warm and inviting to their guests but I guess Jim's Steakouts motto is to be rude to anyone that may look like they are a little off. May want to look into this. Steaks look delicious but the dude at the front counter knows nothing about customer experience - experience is everything and I wouldn't go back to this place or recommend it to anyone Good day read more
