I pass by this place 5x a week, we'll I finally decided to go there after sampling my sons steak hoagie, IT was so good that I ate half of it..The owner was so welcoming and gracious. I ordered a steak hoagie, the sandwich was hot, juicy, the bread was so soft, that I ate it in the parking lot. I was so happy that they had loganberry, that the owner gave me a free drink. The next time I went with my son and of course the owner knew him. They have a great variety of food and daily specials, and the price is right. You can also dine in and it is handicap accessible. Let me tell you, I've been to many restaurants and fine dining establishments in Western New York and this has to be one of the worst ones i've been to in a very long time. The owner had an attitude with my children (13) and (8). Keep in mind, they did not leave my sight ONCE. But unfortunately this man was giving them snarl looks and saying they needed to leave if they weren't buying anything. My children and I left the restaurant after about 20 minutes. We were extremely disappointed in this place not just for the heckling from the owner but also the food was not done correctly at all. I ordered their steak sub and it states "$11.35" on the menu when I actually paid about $17 for my sub. False advertising is something I look for in all the restaurants and this one had it all over. Besides the price, the food came out terrible like I said before. Steak tasted like rubber tires mixed with cardboard and the rest of the ingredients were undercooked. Unfortunately, I couldn't grab a picture of my god awful food or the ambiance. But I will say the only plus about this place is it's a very homey vibe. I love those kind of restaurants but if you're gonna talk to my kids like that and sell me false priced piss poor mediocre food, you got something else coming for you. For me this place had a very average chicken finger sub though I guess this place is known for them. I had that and ordered a stinger sub as well and was overall disappointed by my meal. The fries were also just okay and I saw them simply reheat my fries in fryer as I walked over to counter vs a fresh order since they say out for awhile. There's pretty sandwiches in area to try. So with the loss of all the local Jimmy John's, we decided to try a local favorite. Glad we did - this place is great. My first visit there, friendly staff recommended the Royal. I was back the next day to try the wings which were also great. If you order hot food, realize they cook it to order, so there is a wait. This isn't as fast as a Subways, but the quality of the food is worth the wait as long as you know what to expect. We did take-out the first visit, eat-in the second. I don't know how well they're doing, but a fresh coat of paint wouldn't hurt! Otherwise, it's like stepping back into an 80s movie with old school counters, video game machines and fake wood tables. I've been going here for as long as I can remember as I grew up right down the street. They changed ownership not too long ago. The food has stayed consistent and the new owner seems to friendlier then the last old guy with glasses who used to work there and was very rude to me when I was in high school. My only negative about this place is every single time I order something with tomatoes on it they give me the butt/end of the tomato! Every single damn time. I would rather have no tomatoes at all then the butt/end. Please just throw them away it's seriously so annoying. I would say the last four times I've been there I received the butt/end of the tomato. Also on multiple occasions my lettuce has been very brown & soggy. My dad has been eating at this restaurant for years. We ordered a couple of subs. We ordered the Royal, Steak Hoagie and Chicken Parmesan subs. They were all good! The white roll is ESPECIALLY GOOD! I love and appreciate that the Royal is actually made with sausage along with capicola, rather then salami and capicola like some other restaurants. I do have some complaints. They were out of kalamata olives, stuffed grape leaves, cucumbers and other items that are required to make a Greek salad. I tried to order a garden salad. They were out of items required to make a garden salad. The employees response was their salads don't get ordered often so they don't carry a lot of the ingredients. When I walked into this sub shop, I felt like I stepped back in time to the Fast Times At Ridgemont High movie set in 1982. What a trip! I ordered a whole chicken finger sub, medium, with blue cheese, L, T, O. My sister got the fingers platter with fries. We ordered pizza logs too, half order. I must have been a glutton for deep fried punishment because though it was good, it was so much fried food. The sub itself was really good. I could only get through half (and I was at the point of being "hangry" so I thought I could eat all of that food). I'm pretty sure the sub roll is Costanza's, which are totally the best. This place USED to be amazing. I would eat here all the time. All through middle and high school it was like our go to place to eat. Things have definitely changed with the owners now. They buy poor quality items and want us customers to pay the same prices we were paying for the amazing quality foods of the previous owners. I find that ridiculous that they want to be cheap and not keep the place how it was. John and Mary's is good. They've been a Buffalo staple for a long time. I've had most of what's on the menu, and I am always satisfied. In the surrounding area, John and Mary's is one of the best pizzas. Granted, Harlem Rd in Cheektowaga isn't exactly flush with quality competition. The facility is always pretty clean. Not extremely impressive, but it's what you would expect or hope for from your average pizzeria. Overall, nothing that will blow your mind here, but definitely will not disappoint you. Easily my favorite place to get subs. How can you go wrong: the service is fast, the food is fresh, and they always get my order right. While I have tried multiple subs and they are are really good, I keep going back to my usual a full ham sub, tomato, provolone cheese, lettuce, and mayo (only thing they put a generous portion of mayo so if you don't want a lot of mayo I would ask for light mayo). As I was saying prior the service is quick, every time I've order it has never been longer than a 10 minute wait which is great when you want fast food. And last but not least the food is fresh, the rolls are perfect, the tomatoes are juicy, lettuce is great, and the meat is tasty. This one one of the first sub shops I tried after moving to the Buffalo area about 7 years ago. I've eaten at Jon and Mary's several times, and I've never once been disappointed. The only drawback is they do not stock mozzarella cheese, so if you are ordering a chicken parm sub, it will come with provolone instead of mozzarella (not a deal breaker for me, but some of my friends say it changes the taste completely). I ordered 2 chicken fingers subs tonight and when I went to go pick them up, the card reader was not working. The lady tried my card 4 times and ultimately denied me from getting the food. She said it had been happening for a few days but no one was doing anything about it. Instead of giving me the food and having good customer service, she took the subs back to either let the employees eat them and throw them away. I was a willing paying customer who was treated poorly. I live very close and go there often , but I won't be coming anymore. I'm writing this while waiting for my food down the street at Tonys pizza, which is where I will be going from now on. It's too bad. read more
