Jim's is a quintessential neighborhood hardware store. Its staff are friendly, kind, and knowledgeable. When I am trying a new project I can always ask them for their advice and it's sound and well-informed and well-reasoned. They have lots of different kinds of items. They put out free treats f kids and adults alike. I always look forward to visiting and seeing the same, familiar faces. it feels good to support a local mom and pop shop when there are other alternatives. I love going to Jim's. read more

I rented 50 chairs and 8 tables for a wedding dinner. After they did not show up at the time they said, I called and had to REMIND them that they were to deliver the rental items. They had forgotten! Once the rental items were delivered, they were filthy dirty with dry mud. The chairs were awful and disgusting. I had to wipe them off and it didn't do much. The rental items clearly needed a power wash but I was short on time as they were late delivering. The other issue I had was the chairs didn't all match. They are the same color and brand but are not the same style. I felt that I deserved some compensation and was only refunded my delivery fee. What a joke. I am so disappointed in Jim's and they have lost my business. read more

They were open & had what I needed is the only reason they get 2 stars. I stopped in Sunday 5/29 to grab a box of nails. They had what I needed & it was priced at $6.49 on the shelf. I also grabbed a #2 phillips bit. Went to the counter & there encountered a young man (engaged in discussion with a customer) and a slovenly-looking young woman sitting on het butt doing nothing. After waiting for 15 seconds & staring at her she finally started to move slowly toward the register where I was standing. She said nothing & didn't even make eye contact. Starting ringing me up when I finally said HELLO to her. AFTER CHARGING ME $7.99 FOR THE BOX OF NAILS..she mumbled "have a good one". Do yourself & Jim's a favor & quit. Good selection of hardware for your home. I found many of the items that i have purchased are competitive with the bigger retail stores like Lowes. They do honor military discounts which is why i go there now instead of Lusby Hardware on Main Street who doesn't offer any military incentives. read more

I saw one of the employees driving a lawn mower while chugging a beer. Not professional at all. Will not be going back.

I just rented a brush mower I think they called it a flail mower. This machine is a beast it seriously saved me thousands of dollars and hours. The company was courteous enough to drop the equipment off the night before scheduled delivery which was very generous and gave me a few extra hours of time cutting brush. Their employee showed me how to use the machine. I am so excited when I use this machine I may have to go buy one and mow down the entire forest with it. I will definitely continue doing business with this company. read more

I just returned from renting an Aerator at Jim's Air Tool and Rental in Prince Fredrick MD. I reserved it for the day, however in the past, if I returned the aerator within 4 hours, I was only charged for a half day rental - just a $20 credit ON A ~$86 rental, but still a nice gesture. On this occasion however, I received TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE on my rental - let me explain. I picked up the rental with no issues. However, within 15 minutes of using the aerator, the front weight was vibrating out of the machine - a quick inspection revealed the retaining mechanism was loose and vibrating out of position - for now - a quick jury rig with some electrical tape did the job - no big deal. Fifteen minutes later, a retaining bolt came off one of the plugger arms and got jammed in the machine. I spent the next 20 minutes dislodging the bolt and reattaching the plugger arm. It was at this point I realized several other bolts were loose so I tightened all of the bolts. Now I was starting to get annoyed as I has spent the better part of the first hour of my rental working on the machine. Once again back at work - this time the machine was making a banging noise so I decided to return the machine for inspection and presumably another rental. Back at Jim's, they seem un-phased at the repairs I had to do - although the tech did fix the retaining device that was failing to keep the front weight in place. They could not recreate the sound I was hearing - and claimed it may be the way I was operating it on un-level ground. So I took it back home and used it - while this time recording the sound the aerator was making with my cell phone while operating it on level ground. I finished my yard and retuned the unit about 4 1/2 hours after the original rental (including the 40 minutes I had to spend going back to see what was wrong with the unit the first time.) I showed the video to two folks including the gentleman at the front desk - both seemed un-phased and sort of shrugged their shoulders. When I asked the gentleman up front for a 1/2 day charge (%20 dollar reduction) he said - "What for, you got the job done didn't you?" ......REALLY?!!!!!! After having to fix it myself and come back their during the rental, and then SHOWING them the sound it was making - they would not give me a measly $20 credit for returning the machine 30 minutes over the 4 hour half day time allotment? TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN - EVER!!!... AND I WILL TELL EVERYONE I KNOW OF MY EXPERIENCE. About a year ago, I decided to tune-up my STIHL chain saw so I took it into Jim's Tool Rental. I told them that I wanted them to do a tune-up (replace the spark plug, check or replace any wiring, etc.) and change the pull-cord because it was loose. They called me a few days later and told me that the chain saw was ready and I picked it up. The problem was that they didn't do any of the things I asked, no tune up and no new pull-cord. They told me that they sharpened the blade, tightened the chain, and recycled the old gas. I asked the Manager (Older Skinny Gentleman), "Why didn't you guys do as I asked?" He said that was what we were instructed to do. I said, "What? I gave you guys two things to do and none of them were done." They did give me my money back, but I told myself that I'm never going back to that place. A year past and I decided to go back to Jim's Tool Rental store for a 2nd chance because they had a wide variety of equipment and they are really close to my home (5 miles). My neighbor and I decided to rent a standard aerator from them. We take it back to my home and made one pass through the yard and then my neighbor tried it on the next pass through the yard and the belt fell off so we had to bring back to the store. We were not happy and decided to cancel to avoid another belt slipping off, but they persuaded us that the tow behind aerator would be easier and more beneficial for us since we both (My neighbor and I) had a John Deere to tow it. I asked the gentleman how much weight to put on it and he told me as much as we needed. I loaded it up with 150 lbs. and after about four passes the tow assembly was bent and it couldn't be used any longer. So we take it back and it turned out that the incorrect pins were given and there was a limit for the amount of weight that it couldn't exceed. We complained to the Manager (Same Older Skinny Gentleman again) and he gave us a break on the higher-end commercial aerator for a day and we would only pay for 4 hours when we need it in a few weeks. A few weeks later we picked up the commercial aerator from a guy named "Austin". Austin was the only thing good about this place because he cared enough to ask me about my project and demonstrated how to use the equipment without us asking again. As I begin doing my yard, I made six passes and the chain breaks off! UNBELIEVABLE!! We will never be going back to this place again. Since this store has problems, if I owned this store, I would get rid of the older skinny gentleman and promote Austin because he cares!! I would also implement some type of disciplinary standard with checklist with the customer because there was no standard from the front part of the store to the back. Management has to do better or fire them! That's all. read more
