I'm a big matcha person, so my husband and I make it a weekly thing to try a new spot. This week we checked out Jin Jin, and unfortunately it didn't quite hit for me. I ordered the strawberry matcha, which is usually my go to. I didn't realize it was made with strawberry syrup instead of real purée, and that definitely changed the drink. It ended up tasting more like strawberry milk, with little to no matcha flavor coming through. We also tried the banana matcha, and it was pretty similar. The banana flavor completely overpowered everything else, and again, I couldn't really taste the matcha. Overall, it just wasn't what I was hoping for, and I probably wouldn't come back. read more

Hmmm idk why I can't get on the hype about this place. I tried it for the first time a while ago and got the blueberry matcha which was good but overall just very weak flavor. Decided to come back and try it again and see if it was just whoever made it last time. Buuut again I'm just disappointed in the flavor the matcha flavor is weak. Also I usually get light ice in my drinks because I'm a slow sipper but they charge a dollar extra for light ice but didn't even say so I just noticed it on the screen. The sesame matcha is way overpowered by the sesame flavor and not sweet at all. The condensed milk vanilla matcha is pretty sweet but again very weak matcha flavor. read more

Saw the Yelp reviews and was excited to try it out! The location is very cute and aesthetic. I appreciated that they hand whisked the matcha in front of you. We got the special: Vanilla Condensed Matcha. At first I thought it was a good balance. Unfortunately as I drank more I felt like there was not much matcha flavor. Super cute matcha store that I've been to a couple of times. It's a lot of interior design that I really appreciate- it gives a very clean and modern vibe. The staff were very friendly and you can see them make the drinks in front of you. There's a lot of street parking in the area. I've gotten both the black sesame matcha and the lavender matcha. The black sesame flavor was a little bit strong in my opinion.... could not taste the matcha. However, the lavender one was so good. Maybe sweeter than I would like but I don't mind it too much. There was a good balance between matcha and lavender. Also, I've never seen such clear ice cubes in my life! The drinks are a little bit on the pricier side, a little over $8 per drink. Anticipating for their second location to open up this summer in Seattle. This time around I ordered their Strawberry Matcha. It's their most popular and sweetest drink on the menu. It's made with ceremonial grade matcha poured over oat milk, and stirred with strawberry syrup. My sister ordered one of their seasonal drinks, the Matcha Lychee Lemonade. I had heard about Jin Jin online but was finally able to try it. It was a decently busy on that Saturday afternoon. I think it was a really cute store. I ended up getting the Black Sesame Matcha. Most of the time I get something that is labeled black sesame, I don't feel that taste comes through. This is one of the rare times that it did. That does leave mixed feelings. In this case, the black sesame felt like it overpowered the matcha. If I'm in the area again, I would go back although perhaps a different matcha drink so that I can get a better idea of their matcha. read more

Visited Jin Jin Matcha on a Sunday afternoon and was excited to find a spot offering matcha in the Tacoma area. There was a line to the door and all the seats were taken when we arrived. Drinks: I ordered the lavender matcha with less sugar and the condensed vanilla Jeju matcha. The lavender one had the perfect sweetness, but I wished the matcha flavor came through more. FINALLY got a chance to check out Jin Jin Matcha a few days ago while I was on my driving from Seattle to Portland for the week. I've heard lots of great things about Jin Jin, so I was pretty excited to check them out. They seem to have a good variety of drinks, and the staff were very friendly. The Butterfly Pea Flower Matcha Latte stood out to me, so I had to give it a try. The cashier asked if oat milk was fine, and I thought "sure?" I'm used to cafes asking if whole milk is fine so it was a bit surprising. Maybe they ran out of whole milk. My drink was pretty good, it might sound strange so I may be the only one, but it lowkey tasted like a chocolate chip mint ice cream as a drink. Does anything else think that? No? Just me? Okay... well it was still pretty good! I do wish I had this drink with whole milk though, I prefer a creamier texture and to be honest I'm not the biggest fan of oat milk (sorry!!). I would still recommend trying out the Butterfly Pea, but I am definitely coming back again this month to try other iced matcha latte. Tacoma deserves matcha as much as any other city, so I'm happy to see them around and excited to see them open up in Seattle as well! I've had a my fair share of chalky/ watered-down matcha from cafes, so I was initially skeptical of all the good reviews. I'm glad I decided to give Jin Jin a hit anyway because it was really delicious! I got the iced strawberry matcha latte and it was about $7 - expensive but typical for cafes nowadays. You couldn't really tell that it was a strawberry matcha from photos because their strawberry purée did not have that bright red color. To my pleasant surprise, the strawberry flavor was actually very prominent but did not overpower the matcha. The matcha had a nice green color to it and had just the mildest amount of grassiness to it, which I liked. The cafe itself is very spacious, cozy, and calming. This is slowly becoming my go-to cafe stop whenever I visit Tacoma. I feel welcomed by the cozy interior that stuns when the sunlight shines through the windows. There are a couple seating options by the window benches, big table and small coffee table which are fitting for a quick pick-me-up with a friend or to relax and enjoy your drink by yourself. The staff were very nice and happy to answer your questions or give you recommendations on drinks. The lavender matcha is my favorite so far if you are looking for a soothing floral taste. I also tried their black sesame matcha but would recommend it to someone who enjoys a nutty or bitter taste with the seedy texture accumulating at the bottom. They would occasionally host events and I recently attended their mini-market for their staff to sell their handmade goods such as desserts, clothing and art. I appreciated seeing the workers behind the counter express their personalities and passions in-store, as well as bringing community together in Tacoma through their events. Jin Jin is easily the best place to get Matcha in Tacoma! My go to is an iced strawberry Matcha with Oatmilk - absolutely delicious. The regular Matcha flavor is good as well, but the strawberry gives the perfect hint of sweetness but not overly sweet. Good customer service, and the cafe is very aesthetic. They have baked goods, yet they sell out early in the day so be sure to come early. Parking can be challenging but it's downtown Tacoma, on a good day you'll find a space right out front. Don't fret, there are some paid parking spaces just around the first corner. Make sure to pay as the parking police takes their job very serious and will give you a ticket. read more
