For tea we had Princess Grey, Peach Oolong, and one with apple cinnamon. The Grey was the first to go empty haha It's so good. Peach Oolong is just soso. And everyone was super sweet at the cafe, kept checking in on us because we got the back room. If I could give this place more than 5 stars - I would! We came here for a bridal party organized by my best friend/maid of honor, and honestly, I don't think we could have picked a better place. The food is delicious, and they are very generous with it. Seriously, there isn't anything here that is not scrumptious and I left absolutely stuffed! In addition, the tea selection they have is on point! Including a smokey tea I'd never heard of that was absolutely fabulous. Don't judge this place by the outside - the decor inside is adorable, with lots of unique and fun antique pieces. The staff is extremely attentive, kind, and even fun! We didn't expect it but there was a live pianist, and he was extremely talented (and funny). My BFF and I are a bit of tea snobs; we've been to tea rooms in both England, Kirland, and Seattle; this one by far has been our favorite. I really can't say enough great things about this place. I hope we can return soon, because it might be one of my new favorite (and unique) places in Tacoma! Had a Groupon for high tea at this delightful cafe and tea room. Surrounded by amazing antiques and chandeliers. Area tables tucked im away in little nooks it felt very personable and like you had your own space. Each table has its own China and beautiful tea cups and saucers. We ordered the Queens Tea and started with a choice of tomato basil soup or a salad. The soup was very yummy. We chose the Princess Grey tea (earl grey with rose petals) YUM!! Shrimp and salmon spread on a cracker and shrimp cocktail and then the 3 tiered assortment of sandwiches, homemade warm scones with spreads and desserts. We had the Seasonal Tea, and I hate to be harsh- but I am fairly sure it had all been sourced from a grocery store's bakery section, with the exception of the soft, warm, flavorful scone. We were also not served the chocolate dipped strawberries or lemon curd that was stated to come with the meal. For $75 (for 2 including tip), you're truly paying for the beautiful ambience and the fun experience of a tea party. Perhaps a different menu item or a true tea party would yield higher quality food. The ownership is new as of about a month ago and rather than putting them through hell with my review, I'm just going to touch upon some points. Service is slow, scones are muffins, clotted cream is cream cheese, sandwiches are not very filled and pretty boring, second pot of tea took over an hour to get, tray overall not very appetizing and service extremely slow. That said, I reached out to the owner and she was more than receptive to my comments and suggestions. My boyfriend had spotted the Olive Branch while visiting the antique mall and Tacoma Dome due to the large sign out front that states they have famous scones. We believed it was a brunch spot and planned to have a late Valentine's Day date there afterwards and without a reservation. Upon entering, we quickly realized that it was a tea house (it was also both of our first times at a tea house). It is much larger inside than it appears on the outside. It is decorated heavily in Victorian maximalism aesthetic with the main colors being pink, brown, and gold. There was a live pianist playing freely and without a guide, and their music was light hearted and truly set the tone for the visit. Our server was named Savannah, and she seated us at a small table with a view of the entire restaurant. We could see private tea party rooms and were able to enjoy the music. We ordered the China Mist, but was accidentally brought the Chocolate Mint. Savannah quickly corrected it but let us continue drinking the Chocolate Mint, which she said was her favorite and which quickly became mine too. We started with a chocolate scone, which came with a side of whipped butter and jam (which were all delicious). For lunch, I ordered the egg salad sandwich with a side of potato salad. I loved me meal and the sourdough was toasted but not hot, so it kept the egg salad perfectly cool. My significant other ordered the Reuben and asked for a side of aus jus, which they provided for him, and also a side of potato salad. The portions are huge and worth the money- we both had leftovers, which is rare for us. After speaking with Savannah, she told us that their tea is all locally sourced and selected by the staff and owners, changing the menu every season. I plan to make a reservation and visit in the future for an official tea party in the near future. read more

I'll start by saying this is one of the worst tea rooms I've been to. the scenery was pretty inside however our over all experience is much to be desired. the menu which sounds good, is confusing. it's not clear at all. we had a large group of 11 of us. our tea was not served first, after ordering that is very strange to say the least. they were out of English breakfast tea. knowing this is a tea room, one would think you would be stocked up. there was only 2 other customers, how could they be out? my daughters and I had our food arrived before anyone's else's, which meant that we could eat while others looked on. that was for a good 30 minutes. so we ate slowly. our cucumber stand which was the size of a quarter! not kidding! with one slice of cucumber! omg then came me egg sandwhich which had bits of egg shell throughout. I told the waiting staff, their response was epic! the staff said I already ate half so they can't give me a replacement ! i only ate half after crunching on egg shells. no refund on that nor an apology. we had to ask for lemons. the staff never asked how our food was ! our water was never replenished! considering it was hot inside. the atmosphere was pretty but the staff and food out did everything horribly. they need to reconsider hiring new staff and train them! btw the check arrived ! another complete shock! tip is included! it should not be. they did not deserve it! I have been to many tea rooms! I am from new England, this is the worst! this place should be shut down! read more

We ordered the Queen's Tea at Olive Branch. The Queen's Tea comes with soup or salad, shrimp cocktail (a surprised dish - we didn't expect to get this dish), sorbet (to clean the palate), 1 scone with clotted cream, jam, & lemon curd, and the towered sandwiches with an assortment of desserts (totaling $47/person although after taxes, it was a lot). I ordered the apricot tea and my husband ordered the earl grey. Of the two, I really liked the apricot tea. It went great with or without cream. Adding sugar definitely enhanced the apricot flavor. I thoroughly enjoyed the soup ad salad (my husband got salmon chowder, whereas I got the salad with raspberry vinaigrette dressing). The portions were more than enough. With the shrimp cocktail and scones added, we were pretty full by the time the last course came (sandwiches and dessert). I wished they included the scones with the sandwiches and desserts though. Don't get me wrong, the scones were delicious and piping hot but this was the first High Tea I attended where scones were given separately from the sandwiches. As for the sorbet, it was delicious. It tasted homemade. I'm glad they incorporated that in for palate cleansing. As for the finger sandwiches, we had 2 pieces each of the egg salad, curry with chicken?, tuna, and cucumber with cream cheese? It was also the same with dessert, although they were all mini sized. We had cheesecake covered in red syrup, brownie cheesecake, lemon bars, coconut macaroons, chocolate covered strawberries and grapes. Everything was great up until that last course. The flavors for the sandwiches and dessert were a bit lackluster and the bread for the sandwiches were a bit dry. I've had much better sandwiches and desserts at other locations. The price is pretty steep but you also pay for the ambiance and the experience. In addition, you get a live pianist who played amazing tunes perfect for the setting. And the customer service was just above and beyond. They were all so kind. Would I come back? Yes of course. I would never say no to a tea party. read more

We previously came here in late November 2021 and I gave them 5 stars. Sadly, now that the ownership has changed, my 2 lunch companions and I are giving it 2 stars. We will not likely be back. Service was extremely slow. It was 90 mins before we received the main tea service. It was not busy today. There were 3 other parties besides ours. The scones were fresh out of the oven and were good. The salmon chowder was excellent. One companion ordered the shrimp cocktail and was served one single shrimp. WTF? The tea sandwiches were tasty. The lemon bar was a one inch square. The eclairs were tiny and appeared just like what you would get at Costco. The grapes came in a cluster which we had difficulty separating. They could have easily snipped them to make it more manageable. There were no tongs for selecting sugar cubes, nor for serving the goodies on the tea service tray. It's like walking into a dollhouse or something. You're immediately greeted as you enter with the utmost friendliness and a hug. You are then given a menu with different options for your afternoon tea including items like soup, scones, mini sandwiches, dessert, and of course, tea. I had the evening in Missoula tea which was tasty and mild in flavor. I had the smoked salmon chowder which was absolutely delicious. Some other standouts were the scone and all three jellies/creams, the mini sandwiches, and the chocolate covered strawberries. All in all the food was good and more than anything it was a fun experience. Every single member of the staff goes above and beyond as well. So friendly and truly cares you enjoy your experience. I've been to the Olive Branch several times, most recently a month ago for Mother's Day. I had to really think about if I wanted to bring my out of town guests this weekend. I like the decor it is charming but they need to close for a week and do some intense cleaning, paint touch up and declutter a bit. This place could be soooo much better, and I want that for them. I love a good tea party, and this is exactly the feel you get inside the Olive Branch Cafe. I'll give you 3 reasons for my 3 stars, and really wish I could have given this place a higher rating because the staff was so friendly. First star: there were 4 items on the menu - two salads and two sandwiches in addition to two different types of soups. That's it. And they were out of most of it. Second star: even though there were 4 items in the menu everything that I originally ordered they didn't have any longer I soon found out at different points during the food waiting process. I was super bummed about this because I really didn't want anything else and with only 4 options on the menu your second choice becomes very limited. Third star: the sandwich came with chips or a salad and I ordered chips. The sandwich (that I didn't originally want) came out with a side salad, and raspberry dressing (because that was the only dressing they had left - I never would have ordered raspberry dressing). The server told me they were out of chips, so here is a salad. Anyway, the sandwich was fine, the salad was fine but I didn't like dressing. Also, this place is very close to the Tacoma Dome and we went before the Elton John concert. I'm thinking that is why they had such a limited menu, but go early because the line to get it took a bit of time, and if you go early they might not be out of menu items! read more

So far I've been to Olive Branch five times this year. I love supporting women in business, and hearing Teri's story of why she opened, makes me want to visit over, and over. Not to mention the delicious High Tea sets to choose from, and a pretty nice tea selection. The scones are so yummy! She recently opened up a mini high tea location a few doors down, for the little princesses. I can't wait to hear the response she'll get if little girls wanting tea parties. She's swamped now, I know she'll be more swamped with the children's high tea section. They are all friendly, and they also have a piano player, who knows the old standards. A hidden gem near the Tacoma dome. You'd never know this quaint little place for high tea (or lunch) exists. Located next to the bus terminal area, the outside is non-descript but the inside is something to behold. We made reservation for high tea and weren't disappointed! The food was delicious, the service outstanding and getting to pick your tea from the "tea closet" was a fun bonus. It says online that you need reservations for big parties which is fine. We got turned away becuase they were making there profit of of big party's and not taking groups of two for the day. They probably have too plan ahead for the day. I wish they would state must have reservations on weekends and weekdays. It's disappointing, I was looking forward too some high tea. I absolutely love this place! This is my third time visiting and I'm never disappointed. First of all, the ambiance and setup of the spot is amazing. It's totally set up like a tea room and after you're seated they invite you to walk around and take pictures and look at all the beauty. I love the oldness of the restaurant, the rotary phones, the fabric couches, the African American paintings.... seriously you could come here just for a photography session. When you're walking through the restaurant you walk past the princess, hat, and high tea room (youth tea parties and you can wear a hat while you eat). I ordered the chicken pesto salad and shared a pot of tea with my friends (so frickin delicious). Of course you can't ever walk away from that place without eating one of those magic scones of theirs. My total with tip was about $27.00. Did I mention the food is amazing? They have a volunteer piano player volunteer named Brian who interacts with guests and plays music while you're there. The food is amazing, the customer service is amazing, and every time I've been there the owner personally comes by our table to check on you and see how you are. Another one of my favorite things about going to this place is I can go in jeans and tennis shoes and have a great time. I LOVE this little secret of Tacoma and can't wait to go back! P.S. Came here for a friends sweet 16 party and was pleasantly surprised at how amazing everything was! The location is pretty easy to find, once you know it's located at the outside entrance of Freighthouse Square. (Free parking in the garage across the street.) I met the owner, she was very nice and truly cares about the experience of her guests! I ordered the curry chicken salad (gluten free and delish!!) and the chocolate mint tea. So in love with this tea place. Came here for a valentines day tea date with my hubby today and it was a fantastic experience. Coming into the restaurant is like stepping into a different world. The decor makes you feel like you went time travelling to the Pre-World 1 era. So lovely! The tea are so delicious and you can smell which tea to have. The pastries and tea sandwiches are so yum! And the scones here are off the charts! Lastly the ladies who run this place are such incredible, powerful human beings. High tea is such a lovely experience here. I had afternoon tea with a friend and might I say their service is wonderful along with the tea and everything! The owner and staff made us feel very welcome throughout our stay. They make the scones out of scratch and it has been the best I've had so far! It was soft, buttery, and full of flavor (unlike those other scones you get like at Starbucks). It comes with jam and 2 other spreads it was so good we didn't even have time to take a picture. There were many varieties of tea to choose from and everything was just delicious. We happened upon this wonderful spot by accident. We saw a sign that said offering scones and decided to to see, if by chance, they had gf scones. Well....they did. My boyfriend and I had a very nice lunch here. Prices are a bit steep on food. I had the grilled chicken salad, 18$. While it was a very generous portion, I wouldn't get it again. Chicken was tender, greens and tomato were fresh. Next time though I would try a half sandwich. I opted to add a side of the salmon chowder, it was delicious! My boyfriend had a Reuben sandwich and wow it was huge! We tried a couple teas after the owner had us take a look at the tea cabinet, encouraged us to smell a couple and we ended up trying two. First off I want to say I almost cried when I realized I left my food. It was so good! My daughter and I most definitely are going to become regulars. We are from California and it was a little tricky finding a classy, clean tea room that plays live piano music with low set lights and warm atmosphere, just ten minutes away from our home. I was skeptical because my daughter picked it but it actually was very pleasurable and complimented the food well. My 12 year old daughter and I came upon this adorable place by accident! But we will return for sure. Every person we came in contact with was absolutely amazing and so friendly. From the adorable decor, to picking out our tea, the whole experience was so fun. Then there was the food...we ordered the half sandwich with soup and salad. The tomato soup was to die for and the sandwiches were enormous!! We could have actually split that half sandwich!
