Very disappointing experience. I was referred to Jin by a friend who noticed some milia and skin growths on my face. I originally wanted to book a one-hour facial, but Jin insisted that the first session had to be 1.5 hours for $120. I felt something was off, but I agreed. At the beginning, I clearly pointed out the areas I wanted to address--some milia near my eyes and a raised bump on my nose. She said, "We'll talk about it later." Then she spent almost an entire hour just massaging my face. During the massage, she even said, "You don't have acne, so just enjoy the massage." But I didn't go there to relax--I came specifically to treat the milia and bumps. I can easily do massage, masking, and basic blackhead removal at home. What I needed was proper extraction and treatment, which she barely did. The actual extraction was very brief--only a small area on my forehead and along my hairline - and then a 10-minute mask. The total session didn't even last the full 1.5 hours, even though I was charged for that.（3:50 -5:10) The extraction was extremely painful, but I endured it. At the very end, she told me that removing the other milia would require an additional $100, and I'd have to come back next time. If that was the case, she should have told me upfront when assessing my skin. The pricing and treatment process felt very unclear and not transparent at all. It honestly gave me the impression that she was trying to split the service just to charge more. Also, she didn't apply sunscreen after the facial until I specifically asked, even though it was very sunny outside. That's a basic step in aftercare, and I expected more professionalism. Two days later, I messaged her to ask how long it would take for the treated area to heal. Her response was simply, "I already told you before," without any helpful or professional advice. I have been coming to Jin for 10+ years and I have introduced her to my mom and my sister as well. We all love her! She is thorough, kind, and she is straight forward about what we each need to do with our skincare routine. She never recommends us to buy expensive brand name things; she always says just because it is expensive and a big brand doesn't mean it is good for your specific skin type. Since my girlfriend highly raved about how fantastic Jin was -- I thought it wouldn't hurt to make an appointment given her prices were (and still are) extremely reasonable. During your very first visit, Jin will conduct an assessment of your skin and provide a recommendation of what facial treatment you should start off with. Depending on your needs and skin type, you can also elect a different type of facial option. For $60 before gratuity, Jin indulges me with the following: * face, neck, and shoulder massage. Her face massage can make you fall asleep. It's perfect pressure and she takes her time taking all the tension out of your face. Great for circulation. * extractions. Most of us wear makeup and are in various climates and environments which causes build up on our skin. Jin takes her time clearing out those impurities. It can get uncomfortable and sometimes a bit painful, but its necessary. * mud mask. Depending on the season, she changes her mud mask for better moisture. I think she uses a Cucumber Melon mask over the summer. She applies it on after the extractions to cool and soothe your skin. * more massaging! Once your mask is on, she continues with another relaxation massage. She starts with your arms, then works on your hands, and then back to the neck and shoulders. It's the best. She ends the facial by removing the mask, and then puts on a moisturizer and sunscreen before sending you off. I spend about 90 minutes with her at each appointment. Brought my son to Jin for facial. Knowing that he is afraid of the pain, Jin was very careful with the extractions. She did a wonderful job!! My son even managed to fall asleep at the end!!! I heard about her through a friend of a friend that if you have acne or monthly hormonal breakouts or just want to invest in your skin, she is the best for her attention to detail, quality and care, and price for what you're getting! If I could give her 10 stars, I would, she's that great. First visit, she will generally do an extraction only. Her exact words were, don't worry everyone cries during this... Ughhhh what???? She spent 1.5hrs extracting every blackhead / blemish / imperfection on my face. She put cooling agents on it afterwards, she coated my face in moisturizers, she massaged my face and neck, and whatever else magic. As for the crying part... You're not sobbing on the table, lol, but the extraction part, she's pulling out all the oil and black heads to give you clear skin. As she's combing over your skin with a strong light and equipment, there's some discomfort and a few tears always leak out. While you might be wondering if it's worth the pain, let me tell you. It is worth every damn penny. Every. Damn. Penny. Time: Everyone's first visit is a bit different depending on their skin. Mine took 1.5hrs and cost me $80 cash only. If your skin is better, it'll prob be less time and cost a bit less. Follow-up appointments: Afterwards she will go through her regular procedures and you can choose whatever you want or what I do, is let her choose what is best for my skin. She will usually give you two options... The main procedure she recommends or the main procedure with an upper body massage. Her lowest tier was like $45 but the one she suggested for me was $55 for 1hr, and if I wanted the massage with it then it would be $80 for 1.5hrs. While her main location is in Santa Clara, she lives in Hayward and says she works from her home in the evenings for clients over there. She has Mondays off, and weekdays are quieter but weekends are generally swamped with appointments - she fills up fast. Parking and location: Her office is within an insurance type building. Go to the first door on the far left. There is a parking lot available. I always come on weekends in the evening so I've never had an issue with getting a parking spot, but I hear it fills up fast. How often should you go?: Monthly. I generally only break out right before my period. She says if I come regularly every month, those breakouts will lessen over time. She also says to always moisturize! Apparently that's the key. So if you have made it this far down my review then you can prob tell I'm a fan. If anything, go once just to try it. My skin was pretty red and splotchy after for the next two or three days but the next three weeks my skin was glowing and smooth and beautiful!!!! I didn't need much makeup or cover-up or anything! I hate to say it, but my second visit to Jin was not good at all. She was very flexible and sweet in taking my appointment at the last minute as someone had cancelled. I explained to her that her extractions were quite painful, and again, it was like I was being punctured with needles all over my face. I handled the pain as best as I could and when I left, I was so embarrassed to see swollen welts all over my face where she had extracted from. Especially since I was meeting a friend for dinner shortly after. The next day, all the extraction points were huge red pimple looking dots all over my face. What an embarrassment to go to work, especially since I don't wear makeup to cover it. The next day they turned into real pimples. Maybe this is normal, but in the 8+ years I've gotten facials, I don't think this has EVER happened. People go to get facials to prevent this from happening right? I texted my friend who referred me to Jin and with photos and she said this never happened to her. This is why I think it is really important for estheticians to consult with their clients on their skin types, as she does not. I have super sensitive skin and she should've known from my first visit. 3 days later, I decided to text Jin with the photos as I really did not want these pimples and welts to scar my face. Communication is hard over the phone as it is hard to understand her, and it sounded like she was telling me they would scar. WHAT? She told me to just let it be, and ask my friend if it ever happened to her. First of all, I already did, and second of all, everyone's skin and reaction is different. By Friday, I had internal bleeding where the welts were and still had remmants of the pimples all over my face. I was so disgusted with my face that I called Jin and asked if I could come over. Maybe she could give me some medicine to put on it? And the internal bleeding really freaked me out. I came by and she kept saying she's never seen this happen. She said I could come back so she could extract at it more, but that made me really nervous and declined. I didn't want it to get worse or scar even more. Also, she must have a nervous laugh because she kept laughing and I did NOT find this situation FUNNY at all. She then said I could pay normal price for another visit and she would do extra things in the facial. NO WAY! I am not going to put my face at risk again. If you are looking for a fancy spa place like Burke Williams, then this is not the type of place for you. If you are looking for a place that takes their time and cares about your skin more than the look of their spa, then this is your kind of place. Here are the reasons why: I purchased the Standard Facial Treatment which was only $45 for an hour?! It was the best facial I have ever had. Jin took her time and took care of me. She explained what she was doing and what she was applying each step of the way. I know some people may not like that but I like to know what she is doing and what each step is for. The best part of this facial was the massage! Make sure to wear a tank top or a tube top because she massages the back and front of your neck. She does cover your front and back shoulder to avoid getting it dirty or wet. She also massaged my shoulder, back of my neck and upper back, and head. When she massages the face, it's a real massage with light pressure around certain areas (pressure points??). It is not going to be like at the other fancy spas where they gently graze your face with their hands so expect some pressure. To me it felt great. Never had a face massage before. LOL. Extractions were painful! Well it could be because I had a lot of white heads which were deeply embedded in my face. She had to pry it open and then squeeze the white heads out! Painful but so worth it. I had this done only once before at another Asian facial place. For some reason the fancy places never do this or even offer! When she does this she has the room light on as well as another bright light which I am glad. I have gone to other places where they leave the room light off or its really dim and the only have the lamp on. Always wondered how they could see how my skin is in a dim light setting... The location and place: Like I said, its not a fancy spa place. Its a room I think she rents in a Asian Wellness/Acupuncture office. Place is clean but again do not expect Burke Williams fancy ( i know i am being repetitive)! I paid for one facial and she did mention she has packages as well. My thing is also about consistency. I want to give her another one or two tries and see if she is consistent before purchasing a package. I was very tempted to purchase one though. I am glad she did not push cause that would have totally turned me off. All in All, I highly recommend this place. I really love the way my skin looks after my first visit with Jin! It looked like I was a shade lighter and my skin looked so smooth and fresh. She did some extractions which can be painful but I have a high tolerance for pain so it wasn't that bad. (Be advised that extractions aren't for everyone, so If you feel your skin is too sensitive for this procedure, be sure to tell her that you'd rather not.) I am definitely planning to visit her again when I am back in town. If I could, I would visit her every month! She does get busy so make sure to call for an appointment. Her skin was not that great to begin with - had acne and scars but then after a while, my mom and I both both started noticing how clear and amazing her skin was. Apparently she's been going to Jin for years. How I never knew...not too sure. But ended up booking a last minute appointment with Jin when I was home for Thanksgiving weekend. The experience was amazing!! It's not a fancy place. Don't expect a glass of wine to greet you. It's in a small room inside a medical clinic office. But the facial was fantastic. She took her time, was very careful and detail oriented. Just by asking a few questions she knew exactly what my skin problem was and made some recommendations. A couple hours later and I could not believe how soft my skin was. It was like that for a good few days afterwards. Wish I could come here as a regular to fix my acne and some scars. I have been seeing Jin for over three years since I moved back from Taiwan. She is a wonderful and optimistic individual with great knowledge in skin care. I used to have monthly acne issue and have not had that problem anymore. Jin takes her time with extraction to really clean out your blackheads, acnes and oils, which allows your skin to breath better. Cleaner skin also allows skin care products (like moisturizer or serum) to absorb into your skin so that your skin stay hydrated. My skin feels and looks good with no make up on.
